Much is known about the essentiality of the halogens fluorine (F), chlorine (Cl), and iodine (I), but very little has been discussed with respect to bromine (Br). As a member of the halogen family its chemical properties are comparable to those of other halogens, but its presence has been masked by the presence of I and Cl in chemical analyses. By virtue of new technology and a special computerized machine called the Kevex Model 0600 Energy Dispersive X-Ray Induced X-Ray Fluorescence Spectrometer (EDXRF), we can specifically identify bromine in different compartments and verify its concentration accurately. In order to establish standard values of Br concentrations and evaluate the nature of its presence in humans, samples of serum, urine, and hair were collected from ten healthy adult males and analyzed for bromine content. Our samples had normal distributions, with serum bromine levels ranging from 3.2 to 5.6 μg/mL, urine levels between 0.3 to 7.0 μg/mL, and hair levels determined from 1.1 to 49.0 μg/mL. These levels, especially those of serum bromine, have been encountered by other examiners whose samples also had normal distributions. These findings suggest to us that bromine may well be an essential trace element, as are its other halogen family members.  相似文献

The correlations of essential element Se between human hair and kidney-cortex, liver, and lung from the same subjects were investigated by instrumental neutron activation analysis, using the reaction76Se (n, γ)77mSe, for 24 Chinese autopsies. The concentration of Se is higher in kidney-cortex (2.04–5.36 mg/kg) than in liver (0.73–2.29), lung (0.50–1.85), and hair (0.37–1.43). It is important to know that there are significant relationships of Se concentration between hair and the other three internal organs. The correlation coefficient by linear regression analysis are 0.639, 0.570, and 0.635 for liver, lung, and kidney-cortex, respectively; and theP values are all less than 0.01 for the three tissues.  相似文献

Pb, Cd, and Ni contents were determined in the scalp hair of the Asmat of Irian Jaya (Indonesian New Guinea) on 35 adult subjects. These data are presented together with those of Al, Ca, Ti, Fe, Cu, Zn and Sr, which were determined in previous research on the same group. Hair samples were analyzed by EDXRS and ICP. Trace elements were also determined in 12 soil samples from the same area by EDXRS (Al, Si, K, Ca, Fe) and ICP (Cu, Sr, Ti), and by AAS (Cd, Ni, Pb). When hair element levels are compared and discussed with those of other New Guinea populations, acculturated and nonacculturated tropical groups, populations from Western countries and from polluted areas, and “recommended levels” in the literature, they greatly exceed Western levels and generally fit those of other New Guinea populations, stressing the importance of common environment, subsistence, and behavior. The results of soil analyses are consistent with the presence of those elements in hair, and their quantitative distribution follows a common trend. Metal mobility in soil, patterns of absorption, and transfer from soil to plants and to humans are considered here.  相似文献

The changes of pulmonary and liver Cu-Zn contents were determined and evaluated in intestinal ischemic reperfusion (IIR) and general ischemic reperfusion (GIR) of rabbits. The contents of pulmonary Zn and liver Cu were found to be lower, and Cu/Zn ratio increased in lung tissue and decreased in liver tissue in IIR. The contents of pulmonary Zn were increased, and the contents of liver Cu were decreased; Cu/Zn ratio also decreased in both tissues in GIR. Pulmonary Cu and liver Zn contents were not changed in IIR and GIR. These results showed that lower or higher Zn in lung tissue and lower Cu in liver tissue were related to the acute tissue injury during IIR and GIR, suggesting that regulating the state of pulmonary Zn and liver Cu should be attempted during the prevention and treatment of both ischemic reperfusions.  相似文献

Data concerning the blood selenium level and its relation to the mortality from lung cancer are reported. There were 353 samples of blood collected from workers at the Yannan Tin Mine (Yun-Xi) and 75 samples from Beijing residents for comparison. An inverse correlation between blood selenium levels and lung cancer mortalities was observed. The average selenium concentration in whole blood from Beijing residents (age-adjusted mortality rate from lung cancer for males: 12/100,000) and Yun-Xi miners (age-adjusted mortalty from lung cancer for males: 108/100,000) were 12.3 and 8.8 μg/100 mL, respectively. A similar inverse correlation was also observed among young people of comparable sex and age groups. In Yun-Xi, the tin miners working underground with an average lung cancer death rate of 250/100, 000 for males had lower blood selenium concentrations than those working above ground, where the average lung cancer death rate for males was 42/100,000. Workers frequently exposed to arsenic exhibited lower blood selenium contents. Selenium levels in the blood of patients with lung cancer were lower (6.2 μg/100 mL) than those of healthy controls.  相似文献

Effects of altered dietary zinc on levels of zinc, copper, magnesium, and calcium in organ and peripheral tissues were studied. When rats fed a zinc-deficient diet (1.3 μg Zn/g) for 28 d were compared with rats fed a control diet (37.5 μg Zn/g), levels of zinc were slightly lower in plasma, hair, and skin and 50% lower in femur and pancreas, whereas the levels of copper were higher in all tissue except plasma. Magnesium levels were higher than controls in the heart and lower in the spleen, whereas the calcium levels were lower in plasma, lung, spleen, kidney, and skin and strikingly higher in brain, hair, and femur. When rats fed a zinc-supplemented diet (1.0 mg Zn/g) were compared to the same conrols, levels of zinc in these were higher in all organs and peripheral tissues studied, except heart, lung, and liver; copper levels were higher in liver, kidney, and spleen; magnesium levels were significantly higher in the spleen, but were little affected in other tissues, although calcium levels were higher in pancreas, spleen, kidney, and skin and lower in plasma and hair. These data indicate that overall copper organ and peripheral tissue levels are affected inversely, and zinc and calcium levels directly, by zinc nutriture.  相似文献

Trace element disturbance is often observed in hemodialysis patients. While trace element concentrations have been reported in blood samples from hemodialysis patients, they have not been well investigated in scalp hair. In the present study, 22 trace elemental concentrations were measured by inductively coupled plasma-atomic emission spectrometry in the scalp hair of 80 male hemodialysis patients and compared with those of 100 healthy male subjects. In hemodialysis patients, the concentrations of beryllium, arsenic, magnesium, chromium, manganese, iron, selenium, molybdenum, iodine, vanadium, and cobalt were significantly higher than those in healthy subjects, while lead, mercury, copper, germanium, and bromine were significantly lower than those in the former group. No significant differences were observed for lithium, aluminum, cadmium, zinc, boron, or nickel. There were significant positive correlations between the duration of hemodialysis and the magnesium and manganese concentrations. There was a significant negative correlation between cadmium concentration and the duration of hemodialysis. There were significant positive correlations between dialysis efficacy (Kt/V) and magnesium, manganese, zinc, and selenium concentrations. In conclusion, trace element concentrations of the scalp hair are different between hemodialysis patients and healthy subjects. Essential trace elements, such as magnesium, manganese, zinc, and selenium, may be affected by the duration of hemodialysis and Kt/V.  相似文献

Biological half-lives of bromine in 15 different organs and tissues of the rat, in addition to the whole-body half-life, were determined by measuring the radioactive concentration of 82Br-bromide in samples of tissues collected at the time intervals of 12-396 h from animals that continuously (up to 17 d) received 82Br-labeled bromide in their drinking water. The half-life values, calculated from the experimental data by the method of gradual estimates of the parameters in question with the SPSS statistical program, ranged from 94.3+/-14.6 h in the thyroid gland to 235.0+/-88.9 h in liver. In most of the studied tissues, the biological half-lives of bromine were shorter than in the whole body, in which it equaled 197.8+/-22.2 h. Significant correlation between the values of the steady-state concentration of bromide and of the biological half-life was found for most tissues (except for liver). The steady-state concentrations of 82Br in tissues are probably proportional to the magnitude of bromide space, and, consequently, of chloride space.  相似文献

Native mussels, Diplodon chilensis, were sampled from four lakes in Nahuel Huapi National Park, Northern Patagonia, Argentina in order to evaluate heavy-metal distribution in the region and to assess the contribution of this compartment of the trophic web to their circulation in the food chain. The concentration of potential pollutants Ag, As, Cr, Hg, Sb, and Se, and other nine elements of interest (Ba, Br, Ca, Co, Cs, Fe, Na, Sr, and Zn) were determined in Diplodon chilensis pooled samples. Digestive glands were analyzed separately from soft tissues. Geological tracers Sc, Ta, Th, and rare earth elements were also determined in order to discriminate lithophile contributions. Elemental concentrations of Ba, Br, Fe, Sr, Se, and Zn in total soft tissues samples do not show significant differences among sampling sites. Arsenic and Cr contents in total soft tissues and digestive gland pooled samples are higher in sampling points close to zones with human settlements. Silver contents in samples collected in Lake Nahuel Huapi were higher than in the other lakes studied, and up to 50-fold higher than the sample collected in Lake Traful, considered as the reference. Mercury highest concentration values measured in total soft tissues pooled samples from lakes Nahuel Huapi and Moreno were found to be similar to those observed in other reported Hg contamination situations, and they are three to five times higher than those of the reference samples collected in Lake Traful.  相似文献

Cadmium, copper and zinc in tissues of deceased copper smelter workers   总被引:5,自引:0,他引:5  
Workers at a copper and lead smelter in northern Sweden have a multifactorial exposure to a number of heavy metals. The concentrations of cadmium, copper and zinc in liver, lung, kidney and brain tissues have been determined by atomic absorption spectrometry in 32 deceased long-term exposed male lead smelter workers, and compared with those of 10 male controls. Furthermore, copper and zinc levels in hair and nails were determined by energy-dispersive X-ray fluorescence.

The highest cadmium concentrations among both workers and controls were observed in kidney, followed in order by liver, lung and brain. The levels in kidney, liver and lung were all significantly higher in the workers than in the controls (p < 0.03). Among the workers relatively strong positive correlations (p < 0.03) were observed between cadmium concentrations in liver and lung, liver and kidney, liver and brain, and lung and brain. In the exposed workers a positive correlation was observed between cadmium and zinc concentrations in the kidney (rs = 0.38; p = 0.034). This is probably mainly due to the protein metallothionein, which is stored in the kidney, binding equimolar amounts of these two metals.

The highest concentrations of copper were found in hair and nails among both workers and controls, followed in order by liver, brain, kidney and lung. The tissue concentrations of copper in brain, lung and kidney were all significantly higher among the smelter workers than in the controls (p ≤ 0.036). Copper levels in lung and age at time of death were positively correlated among the exposed workers (rs = 0.39; p = 0.029). In the same group, positive correlations between copper and zinc concentrations in kidney (rs = 0.45; p = 0.009) and nails (rs = 0.68; p < 0.001) were also observed, reflecting possible biological interactions between these two metals.

Among both workers and controls, the highest zinc concentrations were found in hair, followed in order by nails, liver, kidney, brain and lung. Significantly higher tissue concentrations among the workers as compared with the reference group were noted in kidney, liver and brain (p ≤ 0.033).

Neither copper nor zinc concentrations in hair and nails seemed to provide a useful measure of the trace element status of the smelter workers.  相似文献

To determine if calcium had a goitrogenic effect on the thyroid function in rats, weanling rats were fed, for three weeks, a diet containing either 0.5 microgram or 0.04 microgram iodine per gram of diet, or an adequate (0.47%) or an excessive (2%) amount of calcium. With an adequate iodine diet, the calcium load did not induce an increase in the weight of the thyroid or a decrease in serum thyroid hormone concentration. However, the rats given a calcium load had a lighter body weight and a lower iodine content in the thyroid tissue; they also had a higher thyroxine (T4) content in the liver and kidney tissues than the rats receiving an adequate calcium diet. With a low iodine diet, the calcium load brought out a decrease in growth and a lower serum triiodothyronine (T3) concentration and liver and kidney T3 contents. These changes suggest that the calcium load might have acted on the thyroid function through an inhibition of T4-T3 conversion in the serum as well as in liver and kidney tissues.  相似文献

本文研究了615近交系小鼠的自发性可移植性肺癌(P_(615))和肝癌(H_(615))组织中神经节苷脂结合唾液酸含量和神经节苷脂图谱。P_(615)和H_(615)癌组织中GLS结合唾液酸含量均比正常对照为高,分别为对照组织的2.9倍和1.9倍。615小鼠的正常肺组织和肝组织的GLS主要成分均为GM_3。在P_(615)和H_(615)癌组织中GM_3含量均明显减少。肺癌组织中GM_2大量增加,肝癌组织中不仅GM_2明显增加,GM_1和GD_(18)也明显增加。P_(615)和H_(615)这两种分化程度较高、恶性程度较低的癌组织GD_3的百分含量比正常对照组织略有降低。本文结果提示,自发性可移植性P_(615)和H_(615)肿瘤组织中不仅神经节苷脂含量(以唾液酸量计)升高,而且GLS的组分也发生改变。GM_3含量减少和GM_2含量增高可能与肿瘤的恶性生长和分化程度有关。  相似文献

In order to study the relationships between trace element concentrations of hair and internal body burdens, a radiochemical NAA technique has been used for determination of the elements As, Cd, and Hg in autopsy samples of liver, kidney-cortex, lung, and hair from 24 male persons who died by accident. High significant positive correlations were observed between the As concentration in hair and in kidney-cortex, and between Cd and Zn concentrations in kidney-cortex. The contents of Cd, both for lung and kidney-cortex, were related to the smoking habits of the subjects.

The concentrations of trace elements are closely related to tumor genesis, progression, and therapy. In order to establish the extent to which trace elements apply to lung cancer, 15 trace elements were determined in 60 lung tissue samples from residents of Xuanwei and Fuyuan, two counties with extremely high lung cancer incidences in Yunnan province, China. The results indicated that the levels of V, Fe, Zn, Cd, Ni, Cu, Se, and Pb in the lung cancer tissues were significantly different from those in benign tissues. Among the eight elements, the levels of V, Fe, Zn, and Cd in the lung cancer tissues were lower than those in the benign tissues, while those of Ni, Cu, Se, and Pb were higher. Multiple conditional logistic regression showed that among the 15 elements, Cu, Pb (β > 0, OR > 1), and Zn (β < 0, OR < 1) were closely related to the lung cancer. Cu and Pb were classified as risk factors for local lung cancer and Zn was identified as a protective factor. The results obtained will provide dietary suggestions in terms of how to reduce lung cancer risks by appropriately balancing the intakes of certain trace elements especially for individuals who are from those two counties.  相似文献

The trace elements antimony, bromine, cesium, cobalt, iron, rubidium, scandium, strontium and zinc were determined by instrumental neutron activation analysis in breast tissue samples with fibrocystic disease and in samples with fibroadenoma tumors. The histological lesions of each breast sample with fibrocystic disease were recorded, and a statistical analysis of the lesions in combination with the determined trace elements was carried out. The results showed that the element mean values in fibroadenoma tumors are higher than those of fibrocystic disease. 用聚丙烯酰胺凝胶等电聚焦电泳方法,分析了社鼠的肝、肾、心肌、骨骼肌、肺、脾和脑等多种组织器官的LDH、ADH、EST、和SOD4种同工酶,对各组织器官的酶带数目和分布,以及酶活性进行了比较研究。结果表明,社鼠的LDH同工酶、ADH同工酶和EST同工酶具有比较明显的组织特异性,而SOD同工酶的组织特异性较低。肺和脾除EST同工酶活性较高外,脑除LDH同工酶活性较高外,其它3种同工酶的活性均较低;而肝和肾中4种同工酶的活性普遍很高。心肌和骨骼肌因氧张力不同而使LDH同工酶酶谱存在明显差异,但其它3种同工酶酶谱却非常相似。同工酶的组织特异性与各组织器官所执行的生理功能是相一致的  相似文献

The purpose of the present study was to investigate the effects of swimming training on the changes in three superoxide dismutase (SOD) isoenzymes in mice. The trained mice underwent a 6-wk swimming program (1 h/day, 5 days/wk) in water at 35-36 degrees C. Immunoreactive extracellular SOD (EC-SOD), copper- and zinc-containing SOD (CuZn-SOD), and manganese-containing SOD (Mn-SOD) contents and their mRNA abundance were determined in serum, heart, lung, liver, kidney, and gastrocnemius muscle. EC-SOD content in liver and kidney was significantly increased with training. After training, CuZn-SOD content rose significantly only in kidney but decreased significantly in heart, lung, and liver. Mn-SOD content showed a significant increase in lung, kidney, and skeletal muscle but a significant decrease in liver. In most tissues, however, the changes in SOD isoenzyme contents were not concomitant with those in their mRNA levels. The results obtained thus suggest that, except for kidney, the responses in mouse tissues of three SOD isoenzymes (protein levels and mRNA abundance) to swimming training are different and that kidney may be one of the most sensitive organs to adapt to oxidative stress during physical training, although the mechanism remains vague.  相似文献

测定了秦岭人工饲养(10只)和野生(14只)川金丝猴体毛中的10种微量元素含量。锌、铁、铜、钙、镁5种元素采用火焰原子吸收法;锰、铬、铅采用石墨炉原子吸收法;铝采用等离子光谱;硒经硝解后采用原子吸收法测定。结果表明,铬、锰、镁、铅、锌和硒的含量,人工猴极显著或显著高于野生猴;铁含量,人工猴极显著低于野生猴;钙、铜和铝的含量,人工猴与野生猴无显著差异。以人类毛发10种微量元素的正常范围为参照,人工猴铅、铬、锰与锌4种含量均显著超出正常范围的上限,属于严重超量。这可能与金丝猴饲养过程中添加营养制剂有关。  相似文献

Tryptophan, copper and zinc levels were determined in the hair of 300 healthy subjects divided by sex, age and hair colour. Sex influences tryptophan content in hair, the levels of this amino acid being higher in males than in females. Tryptophan is also higher in infancy (2-5 years) and in both males and females aging around 80 years and over. Hair colour also influences tryptophan levels, which increase from fair to black hair. Copper levels are similar in hair of both males and females, while those of zinc are higher in women. Age influences the distribution of these two metals in human hair. Copper contents in hair of males are higher at the age 20-40 years. In females, values decrease over the age of 60 years. Instead, zinc levels are higher between 20 and 60 years in males, and between 13 and 19 years in females. As regards hair colour, copper is slightly higher in black hair in males and in fair hair in females, and lower in white hair in both sexes. Zinc values appear to be higher in red and lower in white hair in males. In females they are higher in black hair.  相似文献
