Hypothalamic paraventricular nucleus (PVN) has an important role in the regulation of water and sodium intake. Several researches described the presence of 5-HT1 receptors in the central nervous system. 5-HT1A was one of the prime receptors identified and it is found in the somatodendritic and post-synaptic forms. Therefore, the aim of this study was to investigate the participation of serotonergic 5-HT1A receptors in the PVN on the sodium intake induced by sodium depletion followed by 24 h of deprivation (injection of the diuretic furosemide plus 24  h of sodium-deficient diet). Rats (280–320 g) were submitted to the implant of cannulas bilaterally in the PVN. 5-HT injections (10 and 20 μg/0.2 μl) in the PVN reduced NaCl 1.8% intake. 8-OH-DPAT injections (2.5 and 5.0 μg/0.2 μl) in the PVN also reduced NaCl 1.8% intake. pMPPF bilateral injections (5-HT1A antagonist) previously to 8-OH-DPAT injections have completely blocked the inhibitory effect over NaCl 1.8% intake. 5-HT1A antagonists partially reduced the inhibitory effect of 5-HT on NaCl 1.8% intake induced by sodium depletion. In contrast, the intake of palatable solution (2% sucrose) under body fluid-replete conditions was not changed after bilateral PVN 8-OH-DPTA injections. The results show that 5-HT1A serotonergic mechanisms in the PVN modulate sodium intake induced by sodium loss. The finding that sucrose intake was not affected by PVN 5-HT1A activation suggests that the effects of the 5-HT1A treatments on the intake of NaCl are not due to mechanisms producing a nonspecific decrease of all ingestive behaviors.  相似文献

Activation of central 5-hydroxytryptamine-1A (5-HT(1A)) receptors powerfully inhibits stress-evoked cardiovascular responses mediated by the dorsomedial hypothalamus (DMH), as well as responses evoked by direct activation of neurons within the DMH. The hypothalamic paraventricular nucleus (PVN) also has a crucial role in cardiovascular regulation and is believed to regulate heart rate and renal sympathetic activity via pathways that are independent of the DMH. In this study, we determined whether cardiovascular responses evoked from the PVN are also modulated by activation of central 5-HT(1A) receptors. In anesthetized rats, the increases in heart rate and renal sympathetic nerve activity evoked by bicuculline injection into the PVN were greatly reduced (by 54% and 61%, respectively) by intravenous administration of (±)-8-hydroxy-2-(di-n-propylamino)tetralin (8-OH-DPAT), an agonist of 5-HT(1A) receptors, but were then completely restored by subsequent administration of WAY-100635, a selective antagonist of 5-HT(1A) receptors. Microinjection of 8-OH-DPAT directly into the PVN did not significantly affect the responses to bicuculline injection into the PVN, nor did systemic administration of WAY-100635 alone. In control experiments, a large renal sympathoexcitatory response was evoked from both the PVN and DMH but not from the intermediate region in between; thus the evoked responses from the PVN were not due to activation of neurons in the DMH. The results indicate that activation of central 5-HT(1A) receptors located outside the PVN powerfully inhibits the tachycardia and renal sympathoexcitation evoked by stimulation of neurons in the PVN.  相似文献

The 5-HT1A agonist 8-OH-DPAT was shown to diminish the water and 1.8% NaCl solution consumption, whereas its antagonist pMPPI--to enhance the water intake in rats. Another agonist: CGS-12066A enhanced water intake or exerted no effect on drinking behaviour and diminished salt intake. Other substances under study exerted various effects. The data obtained suggest that the 5-HT receptors are involved in regulation of water and salt intake, even though the mechanisms of the effects are different. Apparently 5-HT1B and 5-HT2A receptors play an activating role in regulation of water intake, whereas 5-HT1A, 5-HT2C and 5-HT3 receptors act as inhibitory ones. Only three of the receptors under study seem to regulate salt intake by inhibiting the salt appetite.  相似文献

This study investigated the involvement of serotonergic mechanisms of the lateral parabrachial nucleus (LPBN) in the control of sodium (Na+) excretion, potassium (K+) excretion, and urinary volume in unanesthetized rats subjected to acute isotonic blood volume expansion (0.15 M NaCl, 2 ml/100 g of body wt over 1 min) or control rats. Plasma oxytocin (OT), vasopressin (VP), and atrial natriuretic peptide (ANP) levels were also determined in the same protocol. Male Wistar rats with stainless steel cannulas implanted bilaterally into the LPBN were used. In rats treated with vehicle in the LPBN, blood volume expansion increased urinary volume, Na+ and K+ excretion, and also plasma ANP and OT. Bilateral injections of serotonergic receptor antagonist methysergide (1 or 4 microg/200 etal) into the LPBN reduced the effects of blood volume expansion on increased Na+ and K+ excretion and urinary volume, while LPBN injections of serotonergic 5-HT(2a)/HT(2c) receptor agonist, 2.5-dimetoxi-4-iodoamphetamine hydrobromide (DOI; 1 or 5 microg/200 etal) enhanced the effects of blood volume expansion on Na+ and K+ excretion and urinary volume. Methysergide (4 microg) into the LPBN decreased the effects of blood volume expansion on plasma ANP and OT, while DOI (5 microg) increased them. The present results suggest the involvement of LPBN serotonergic mechanisms in the regulation of urinary sodium, potassium and water excretion, and hormonal responses to acute isotonic blood volume expansion.  相似文献

Central oxytocin (OT) neurons limit intracerebroventricular (icv) ANG II-induced NaCl intake. Because mineralocorticoids synergistically increase ANG II-induced NaCl intake, we hypothesized that mineralocorticoids may attenuate ANG II-induced activation of inhibitory OT neurons. To test this hypothesis, we determined the effect of deoxycorticosterone (DOCA; 2 mg/day) on icv ANG II-induced c-Fos immunoreactivity in OT and vasopressin (VP) neurons in the supraoptic (SON) and paraventricular (PVN) nuclei of the hypothalamus and also on pituitary OT and VP secretion in male rats. DOCA significantly decreased the percentage of c-Fos-positive (%c-Fos+) OT neurons in the SON and PVN, both in the magnocellular and parvocellular subdivisions, and the %c-Fos+ VP neurons in the SON after a 5-ng icv injection of ANG II. DOCA also significantly reduced the %c-Fos+ OT neurons in the SON after 10 ng ANG II and tended to attenuate 10 ng ANG II-induced OT secretion. However, the %c-Fos+ OT neurons in DOCA-treated rats was greater after 10 ng ANG II, and DOCA did not affect the %c-Fos+ OT neurons in the PVN nor VP secretion or c-Fos immunoreactivity in either the SON or PVN after 10 ng ANG II. DOCA also did not significantly alter the effect of intraperitoneal (ip) cholecystokinin (62 microg) on %c-Fos+ OT neurons or of ip NaCl (2 ml of 2 M NaCl) on the %c-Fos+ OT and VP neurons. These findings indicate that DOCA attenuates the responsiveness of OT and VP neurons to ANG II without completely suppressing the activity of these neurons and, therefore, support the hypothesis that attenuation of OT neuronal activity is one mechanism by which mineralocorticoids enhance NaCl intake.  相似文献

Glucocorticoids have major effects on food intake, as demonstrated by the decrease of food intake following adrenalectomy (ADX); however, the mechanisms leading to these effects are not well understood. Oxytocin (OT) has been shown to reduce food intake. We evaluated the effects of glucocorticoids on OT neuron activation and OT mRNA expression in the hypothalamic paraventricular (PVN) and supraoptic (SON) nuclei induced by feeding. We also evaluated the effect of pretreatment with OT-receptor antagonist ([d(CH2)5,Tyr(Me)2,Orn8]-vasotocin, OVT) on food intake in ADX rats. Fos/OT neurons in the posterior parvocellular subdivision of the PVN were increased after refeeding, with a higher number in the ADX group, compared with sham and ADX+corticosterone (B) groups, with no difference in the medial parvocellular and magnocellular subdivisions of the PVN. ADX increased OT mRNA expression in the PVN both in fasting and refeeding condition, compared with sham and ADX+B groups. In the SON, refeeding increased the number of Fos/OT neurons, with a higher number in the ADX+B group. In fasted condition, OT mRNA expression in the SON was increased in ADX and ADX+B, compared with sham group. Pretreatment with OVT reversed the ADX-induced hypophagia, with no difference between sham and ADX+B animals. The present results show that glucocorticoid withdrawal induces a higher activation of PVN OT neurons in response to feeding, and an increase of OT mRNA expression in the PVN and OT-receptor antagonist reverses the anorexigenic effect induced by ADX. These data indicate that PVN OT neurons might mediate the hypophagic effect induced by adrenalectomy.  相似文献

Subcutaneous administration of oxytocin (OT) increases water intake and sodium/urine excretion in food-deprived male rats. This study analyzes the effect of OT administration (at 0830 and 1430h) on the consumption of water and hypertonic NaCl (1.5%). In the first experiment, injections of OT increased the intake of hypertonic NaCl (but not of water) in food-deprived rats but not in ad lib-fed animals during the second 12 h (2030 to 0830) of the treatment day. The net concentration of the fluid consumed by OT/deprived animals was close to isotonic. In the second experiment, the initial effect of OT administration was an increase in urine volume and urinary sodium excretion and concentration by food-deprived animals during the first 12 h (0830 to 2030). These findings suggest that in food-deprived animals, systemic administration of OT induces NaCl intake as a consequence of previous urine loss and urinary sodium excretion.  相似文献

Estrogen receptors are located in important brain areas that integrate cardiovascular and hydroelectrolytic responses, including the subfornical organ (SFO) and supraoptic (SON) and paraventricular (PVN) nuclei. The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of estradiol on cardiovascular and neuroendocrine changes induced by hemorrhagic shock in ovariectomized rats. Female Wistar rats (220-280 g) were ovariectomized and treated for 7 days with vehicle or estradiol cypionate (EC, 10 or 40 μg/kg, sc). On the 8th day, animals were subjected to hemorrhage (1.5 ml/100 g for 1 min). Hemorrhage induced acute hypotension and bradycardia in the ovariectomized-oil group, but EC treatment inhibited these responses. We observed increases in plasma angiotensin II concentrations and decreases in plasma atrial natriuretic peptide levels after hemorrhage; EC treatment produced no effects on these responses. There were also increases in plasma vasopressin (AVP), oxytocin (OT), and prolactin levels after the induction of hemorrhage in all groups, and these responses were potentiated by EC administration. SFO neurons and parvocellular and magnocellular AVP and OT neurons in the PVN and SON were activated by hemorrhagic shock. EC treatment enhanced the activation of SFO neurons and AVP and OT magnocellular neurons in the PVN and SON and AVP neurons in the medial parvocellular region of the PVN. These results suggest that estradiol modulates the cardiovascular responses induced by hemorrhage, and this effect is likely mediated by an enhancement of AVP and OT neuron activity in the SON and PVN.  相似文献

Tachykinin neurokinin 3 receptor (NK3R) signaling has a broad role in vasopressin (VP) and oxytocin (OT) release. Hydralazine (HDZ)-induced hypotension activates NK3R expressed by magnocellular neurons, increases plasma VP and OT levels, and induces c-Fos expression in VP and OT neurons. Intraventricular pretreatment with the specific NK3R antagonist, SB-222200, eliminates the HDZ-stimulated VP and OT release. NK3R are distributed in the central pathways conveying hypotension information to the magnocellular neurons, and the NK3R antagonist could act anywhere in the pathways. Alternatively, the antagonist could act at the NK3R expressed by the magnocellular neurons. To determine whether blockade of NK3R on magnocellular neurons impairs VP and OT release to HDZ, rats were pretreated with a unilateral PVN injection of 0.15 M NaCl or SB-222200 prior to an intravenous injection of 0.15 M NaCl or HDZ. Blood samples were taken, and brains were processed for VP/c-Fos and OT/c-Fos immunohistochemistry. Intravenous injection of 0.15 M NaCl did not alter plasma hormone levels, and little c-Fos immunoreactivity was present in the PVN. Conversely, intravenous injection of HDZ increased plasma VP and OT levels and c-Fos expression in VP and OT magnocellular neurons. Intra-PVN injection of SB-222200 prior to an intravenous injection of HDZ significantly decreased c-Fos expression in both VP and OT neurons by approximately 70% and attenuated plasma VP and OT levels by 33% and 35%, respectively. Therefore, NK3R signaling in magnocellular neurons has a critical role for the release of VP and OT in response to hypotension.  相似文献

Many mammals, nearing the end of life, spontaneously decrease their food intake and body weight, a stage we refer to as senescence. The spontaneous decrease in food intake and body weight is associated with attenuated responses to intracerebroventricular injections of neuropeptide Y (NPY) compared with old presenescent or with young adult rats. In the present study, we tested the hypothesis that this blunted responsiveness involves the number and expression of hypothalamic paraventricular nucleus (PVN) Y(1) and/or Y(5) NPY receptors, both of which are thought to mediate NPY-induced food intake. We found no significant difference in mRNA levels, via quantitative PCR, for Y(1) and Y(5) receptors in the PVN of senescent vs. presenescent rats. In contrast, immunohistochemistry indicated that the number of PVN neurons staining for Y(1) receptor protein was greater in presenescent compared with senescent rats. We conclude that a decreased expression and number of Y(1) or Y(5) receptors in the PVN cannot explain the attenuated responsiveness of the senescent rats to exogenous NPY.  相似文献

It is shown that a selective agonist of 5-HT1A receptors 8-OH-DPAT in a low dose (0.1 mg/kg), which is known to affect mainly the presynaptic 5-HT1A receptors increased the immune response at the peak of reactions (the forth or fifth day after immunization with sheep red blood cells - SRBC) in CBA mice and Wistar rats. Treatment of the animals with the drug 15 min prior to antigen injection raised the number of plaque-forming cells (lgM-PFC) and rosette-forming cells (RFC) in the spleen. The preliminary blockade of 5-HT1A receptor with a selective antagonist of 5-HT1A receptors WAY-100635 (0.1 mg/kg) prevented the immunostimulating effect of 5-HT 1A receptors agonist 8-OH-DPAT, whereas WAY-100635 administration alone in the same dose didn't change the immune response. Activation of 5-HT1A receptors under conditions of electrical lesion of 5-HTergic neurons of the nucleus raphe was unable to enhance the immune reactions, as it did in sham-operated rats. The data obtained indicate that the somatodendric 5-HT1A autoreceptors are involved in immunomodulation.  相似文献

8-hydroxy-2(di-n-propylamino)tetraline (8-OH-DPAT) and 5-methoxy-3(1,2,3,6-tetrahydro-4-pyridinyl)1H indole succinate (RU 24969), two agonists on the putative serotonin 1A and serotonin 1B receptors, were used for exploring the role of these sites in the inhibitory effect of serotonin (5-HT) on feeding. In free-feeding rats, 2.5-5 mg/kg RU 24969 significantly reduced food intake while doses of 8-OH-DPAT ranging from 0.125 to 0.5 mg/kg increased eating. The effects of the highest doses were associated with hyperlocomotion and hyperreactivity for RU 24969 and a typical motor syndrome (flat body posture and forepaw treading) for 8-OH-DPAT. The motor syndrome caused by 0.5 mg/kg 8-OH-DPAT was much more obvious in food-deprived rats in which food intake was also markedly reduced. RU 24969 1.25 and 5 mg/kg reduced food intake by food-deprived rats and caused hyperlocomotion not different from that in free-feeding animals. Pretreatment with metergoline (2 mg/kg i.p.) prevented the effect of 5 mg/kg RU 24969 on food intake by food-deprived rats but had no effect on the reduction of eating caused by 0.5 mg/kg 8-OH-DPAT. The motor syndrome caused by 8-OH-DPAT was not changed by metergoline but the hyperlocomotion caused by RU 24969 was potentiated. Haloperidol (0.1 mg/kg i.p.) completely blocked the hyperlocomotion but did not change the reduction of food intake caused by RU 24969 in food-deprived rats. It is suggested that the putative serotonin 1B receptors specifically mediate the inhibitory effect of 5-HT on feeding whereas serotonin 1A sites act by enhancing eating only in free-feeding animals.  相似文献

This study was conducted to determine the mechanisms by which serotonin (5-hydroxytryptamine, 5-HT) receptors are involved in the suppression of food intake in a rat stress model and to observe the degree of activation in the areas of the brain involved in feeding. In the stress model, male Sprague–Dawley rats (8 weeks old) were given intracerebroventricular injections of urocortin (UCN) 1. To determine the role of the 5-HT2c receptor (5-HT2cR) in the decreased food intake in UCN1-treated rats, specific 5-HT2cR or 5-HT2b receptor (5-HT2bR) antagonists were administered. Food intake was markedly reduced in UCN1-injected rats compared with phosphate buffered saline treated control rats. Intraperitoneal administration of a 5-HT2cR antagonist, but not a 5-HT2bR antagonist, significantly inhibited the decreased food intake. To assess the involvement of neural activation, we tracked the expression of c-fos mRNA as a neuronal activation marker. Expression of the c-fos mRNA in the arcuate nucleus, ventromedial hypothalamic nucleus (VMH) and rostral ventrolateral medulla (RVLM) in UNC1-injected rats showed significantly higher expression than in the PBS-injected rats. Increased c-fos mRNA was also observed in the paraventricular nucleus (PVN), the nucleus of the solitary tract (NTS), and the amygdala (AMG) after injection of UCN1. Increased 5-HT2cR protein expression was also observed in several areas. However, increased coexpression of 5-HT2cR and c-fos was observed in the PVN, VMH, NTS, RVLM and AMG. Whereas, pro-opiomelanocortin mRNA expression was not changed. In an UNC1-induced stress model, 5-HT2cR expression and activation was found in brain areas involved in feeding control.  相似文献

The supraoptic (SON) and the paraventricular (PVN) hypothalamic nuclei constitute major neuronal substrates underlying nitric oxide (NO) effects on autonomic and neuroendocrine control. Within these nuclei, constitutively produced NO restrains the firing activity of magnocellular neurosecretory and preautonomic neurons, actions thought to be mediated by a cGMP-dependent enhancement of GABAergic inhibitory transmission. In the present study, we expanded on this knowledge by performing a detailed anatomical characterization of constitutive NO-receptive, cGMP-producing neurons within the PVN. To this end, we combined tract-tracing techniques and immunohistochemistry to visualize cGMP immunoreactivity within functionally, neurochemically, and topographically discrete PVN neuronal populations in Wistar rats. Basal cGMP immunoreactivity was readily observed in the PVN, both in neuronal and vascular profiles. The incidence of cGMP immunoreactivity was significantly higher in magnocellular (69%) compared with preautonomic ( approximately 10%) neuronal populations (P < 0.01). No differences were observed between oxytocin (OT) and vasopressin (VP) magnocellular neurons. In preautonomic neurons, the incidence of cGMP was independent of their subnuclei distribution, innervated target (i.e., intermediolateral cell column, nucleus tractus solitarii, or rostral ventrolateral medulla) or their neurochemical phenotype (i.e., OT or VP). Finally, high levels of cGMP immunoreactivity were observed in GABAergic somata and terminals within the PVN of eGFP-GAD67 transgenic mice. Altogether, these data support a highly heterogeneous distribution of basal cGMP levels within the PVN and further support the notion that constitutive NO actions in the PVN involve intricate cell-cell interactions, as well as heterogeneous signaling modalities.  相似文献

Atrial mechanoreceptors, sensitive to stretch, contribute in regulating heart rate and intravascular volume. The information from those receptors reaches the nucleus tractus solitarius and then the paraventricular nucleus (PVN), known to have a crucial role in the regulation of cardiovascular function. Neurons in the PVN synthesize CRF, AVP, and oxytocin (OT). Stimulation of atrial mechanoreceptors was performed in awake rats implanted with a balloon at the junction of the superior vena cava and right atrium. Plasma ACTH, AVP, and OT concentrations and Fos, CRF, AVP, and OT immunolabeling in the PVN were determined after balloon inflation in hydrated and water-deprived rats. The distension of the balloon increased the plasma ACTH concentrations, which were higher in water-deprived than in hydrated rats (P < 0.05). In addition, the distension in the water-deprived group decreased plasma AVP concentrations (P < 0.05), compared with the respective control group. The distension increased the number of Fos- and double-labeled Fos/CRF neurons in the parvocellular PVN, which was higher in the water-deprived than in the hydrated group (P < 0.01). There was no difference in the Fos expression in magnocellular PVN neurons after distension in hydrated and water-deprived groups, compared with respective controls. In conclusion, parvocellular CRF neurons showed an increase of Fos expression induced by stimulation of right atrial mechanoreceptors, suggesting that CRF participates in the cardiovascular reflex adjustments elicited by volume loading. Activation of CRF neurons in the PVN by cardiovascular reflex is affected by osmotic stimulation.  相似文献

Aims

Vasopressin (AVP) and oxytocin (OT) are considered to be related to gastric functions and the regulation of stress response. The present study was to study the role of vasopressinergic and oxytocinergic neurons during the restraint water-immersion stress.

Methods

Ten male Wistar rats were divided into two groups, control and RWIS for 1h. The brain sections were treated with a dual immunohistochemistry of Fos and oxytocin (OT) or vasopressin (AVP) or OT receptor or AVP 1b receptor (V1bR).

Results

(1) Fos-immunoreactive (Fos-IR) neurons dramatically increased in the hypothalamic paraventricular nucleus (PVN), the supraoptic nucleus (SON), the neucleus of solitary tract (NTS) and motor nucleus of the vagus (DMV) in the RWIS rats; (2) OT-immunoreactive (OT-IR) neurons were mainly observed in the medial magnocellular part of the PVN and the dorsal portion of the SON, while AVP-immunoreactive (AVP-IR) neurons mainly distributed in the magnocellular part of the PVN and the ventral portion of the SON. In the RWIS rats, Fos-IR neurons were indentified in 31% of OT-IR neurons and 40% of AVP-IR neurons in the PVN, while in the SON it represented 28%, 53% respectively; (3) V1bR-IR and OTR-IR neurons occupied all portions of the NTS and DMV. In the RWIS rats, more than 10% of OTR-IR and V1bR-IR neurons were activated in the DMV, while lower ratio in the NTS.

Conclusion

RWIS activates both oxytocinergic and vasopressinergic neurons in the PVN and SON, which may project to the NTS or DMV mediating the activity of the neurons by OTR and V1bR.  相似文献

Although numerous data showing severe morphological impairment of magnocellular and parvocellular hypothalamic neurons due to chronic alcoholic consumption have been gathered from animal experiments, only one study (Harding et al., 1996) was performed on POST MORTEM human brain. This study showed a reduction in the number of vasopressin (VP)-immunoreactive neurons in the supraoptic (SON) and paraventricular (PVN) nuclei, but did not provide any data regarding the effect of chronic alcohol intake on human parvocellular neurons. In order to assess whether the changes observed in the animal model also occur in humans and provide a structural basis for the results of clinical tests, we performed immunohistochemical and morphometric analysis of magnocellular (VP and oxytocin, OT) and parvocellular (corticotropin-releasing hormone, CRH) neurons in post-mortem brains of patients afflicted with chronic alcoholic disease. We analyzed 26-male alcoholics and 22 age-matched controls divided into two age groups--"young" (< 40 yr) and "old" (> 40 yr). Hypothalamic sections were stained for OT, VP, and CRH. The analysis revealed: 1) decrease in VP-immunoreactivity in the SON and PVN as well as OT-immunoreactivity in the SON in alcoholic patients; 2) increase in OT-immunoreactivity in the PVN; 3) increase in CRH-immunoreactivity in parvocellular neurons in the PVN. Furthermore, the proportion of cells containing CRH and VP was increased in alcoholics. These findings indicate that chronic alcohol consumption does indeed impair the morphology of magnocellular neurons. The enhancement of CRH-immunoreactivity and increased co-production of CRH and VP in parvocellular neurons may be due to a decline in glucocorticoid production, implied by the hypoplasic impairment of adrenal cortex we observed in alcoholics during the course of this study.  相似文献

Previous studies demonstrated the inhibitory participation of serotonergic (5-HT) and oxytocinergic (OT) neurons on sodium appetite induced by peritoneal dialysis (PD) in rats. The activity of 5-HT neurons increases after PD-induced 2% NaCl intake and decreases after sodium depletion; however, the activity of the OT neurons appears only after PD-induced 2% NaCl intake. To discriminate whether the differential activations of the 5-HT and OT neurons in this model are a consequence of the sodium satiation process or are the result of stimulation caused by the entry to the body of a hypertonic sodium solution during sodium access, we analyzed the number of Fos-5-HT- and Fos-OT-immunoreactive neurons in the dorsal raphe nucleus and the paraventricular nucleus of the hypothalamus-supraoptic nucleus, respectively, after isotonic vs. hypertonic NaCl intake induced by PD. We also studied the OT plasma levels after PD-induced isotonic or hypertonic NaCl intake. Sodium intake induced by PD significantly increased the number of Fos-5-HT cells, independently of the concentration of NaCl consumed. In contrast, the number of Fos-OT neurons increased after hypertonic NaCl intake, in both depleted and non-depleted animals. The OT plasma levels significantly increased only in the PD-induced 2% NaCl intake group in relation to others, showing a synergic effect of both factors. In summary, 5-HT neurons were activated after body sodium status was reestablished, suggesting that this system is activated under conditions of satiety. In terms of the OT system, both OT neural activity and OT plasma levels were increased by the entry of hypertonic NaCl solution during sodium consumption, suggesting that this system is involved in the processing of hyperosmotic signals.  相似文献
