Three cestode species are recorded from Podiceps auritus at Lake Myvatn, Iceland: Tatria minor Kowalewski, 1904 (Amabiliidae), Confluaria furcifera (Krabbe, 1869) and C. islandica n. sp. (Hymenolepididae). C. islandica n. sp. is described on the basis of specimens reported by Baer (1962) as 'Hymenolepis capillaris (Krabbe, 1869)' and newly-collected specimens. It is unique among Confluaria spp. in having: a muscular, thick-walled genital atrium with its proximal end divided into male and female canals; distinct microtriches covering the surface of the rhynchus; and a short, cylindrical cirrus. The shape and the total length of the rostellar hooks are most similar to those of C. capillaris (Rudolphi, 1810), but differ in having a long handle and a relatively small epiphyseal thickening rather than a short handle and the large epiphyseal thickening. The allopatry of the NE Atlantic population of P. auritus is believed to have been a prerequisite for the formation of its specific helminth fauna. Both C. furcifera and T. minor are recorded for the first time in Iceland.  相似文献

Confluaria multistriata (Rudolphi, 1810) is redescribed on the basis of specimens from Tachybaptus ruficollis from the material of Rudolphi and Dollfus and new specimens from the same host species from Bulgaria. The types of C. japonica (Yamaguti, 1935) from T. ruficollis are also redescribed and figured. A single specimen from the collection of Krabbe, described as Taenia multistriata, is re-examined and recognised as belonging to a different species of Confluaria, the status of which remains to be established. Criteria for distinguishing the three species are proposed. In view of the present results, some of the previous records of C. multistriata and C. japonica are re-evaluated. The synonymy of the genera Colymbilepis Spasskaya, 1966 and Confluaria Ablasov in Spasskaya, 1966 is confirmed.  相似文献

Tatria appendiculata Fuhrmann, 1908 is redescribed on the basis of syntypes from Tachybaptus dominicus in Brazil and voucher specimens from the same host species in Cuba previously recorded by Rysavy & Macko (1971). Paratypes of T. duodecacantha Olsen, 1939 from Podilymbus podiceps in the USA are also redescribed and, in contrast with the opinion of Ryzhikov & Tolkacheva (1981), the species is recognised as valid. The major reliable diagnostic characters of Tatria and the distinguishing criteria applicable at the species level are re-evaluated. An amended generic diagnosis of Tatria (sensu stricto) and an identification key to its constituent species are presented.  相似文献

Two species of Joyeuxilepis Spassky, 1947 are redescribed from Tachybaptus ruficollis in Bulgaria: J. biuncinata (Joyeux & Baer, 1943) and J. pilatus Borgarenko & Gulyaev, 1991. The syntypes of J. decacantha (Fuhrmann, 1913) from Podiceps cristatus in Sweden and voucher specimens of J. pilatus (identified as 'Tatria decacantha') from T. ruficollis in England (new geographical record) from the British Museum (Natural History) Collection are also re-described. The voucher specimens and cysticercoids of Tatria spp. from dragonfly nymphs in Wales recorded by Rees (1973) were re-examined. Previous records of J. biuncinata, J. decacantha and J. pilatus are critically analysed in view of the present results. The major reliable diagnostic characters for species of Joyeuxilepis are presented and the distinguishing criteria for the three species studied are re-evaluated.  相似文献

Trypanosomes were isolated from Atlantic cod Gadus morhua L. collected from several fjords in western Norway. Morphological studies showed that the 12 infections studied represented a single species, identified as Trypanosoma pleuronectidium Robertson, 1906 which is resurrected and redescribed. This species is characterised by its body length (57.9 ± 5.4 μm), nearly central nucleus (NI = 1.05 ± 0.12) and relatively short post-kinetoplastic (PK) region (3.2 ± 0.8 μm). T. pleuronectidium is transmitted by the leech Calliobdella nodulifera (Malm). T. murmanense Nikitin, 1927 (emend.) is delimited to a species transmitted by the leech Johanssonia arctica (Johansson). This species is separated from T. pleuronectidium by its attained body length, more anterior nucleus, presence of cytoplasmic refractive granules, adnuclear vacuoles and by a longer PK region. Partial SSU rDNA sequences of T. pleuronectidium and T. murmanense from Norway (1980 nt) diverged by 1.9%. The nominal North Atlantic and Mediterranean trypanosome species are reviewed, and T. flesi Lebailly, 1904, T. bothi Lebailly, 1905 and T. limandae Brumpt & Lebailly, 1904 are considered synonyms of T. platessae Lebailly, 1904. T. triglae senegalensis Ranque, 1973 is not considered conspecific with T. triglae Neumann, 1909, and consequently raised to species status as T. senegalense Ranque, 1973. Some other likely synonymies are discussed. In addition to T. pleuronectidium and T. murmanense, the following marine teleost trypanosomes are provisionally listed as valid species pending further study: T. callionymi Brumpt & Lebailly, 1904; T. cotti Brumpt & Lebailly, 1904; T. delagei Brumpt & Lebailly, 1904; T. dorhni Yakimov, 1911; T. gobii Brumpt & Lebailly, 1904; T. laternae Lebailly, 1904; T. myoxocephali Fantham, Porter & Richardson, 1942; T. platessae Lebailly, 1904; T. scorpaenae Neumann, 1909; T. soleae Laveran & Mesnil, 1901; T. triglae Neumann, 1909; and T. yakimovi Yakimov, 1911.  相似文献

Eight new species of Phygasia Chevrolat (Coleoptera: Chrysomelidae) are described from China, P. gracilicornis, P. nigricollis, P. parva, P. pseudomedia, P. pseudornata, P. simidorsata, P. suturalis and P. yunnana. A list and a key with distribution records to the 21 Chinese species of Phygasia are provided. Antennae, male and female genitalia of most species are illustrated. P. wittmeri Medvedev and P. potanini Medvedev are proposed as new synonyms of P. diancangana Wang and P. potanini Lopatin, respectively. P. pallidipennis Medvedev, 2004 is the homonym of P. pallidipennis Chen et Wang, 1980.  相似文献

A new echiuran, Arhynchite hayaoi sp. n., is described from newly collected specimens from sandy flats of the Seto Inland Sea, Japan, together with many museum specimens, including those once identified as Thalassema owstoni Ikeda, 1904 or Arhynchite arhynchite (Ikeda, 1924). The new species is clearly distinguishable from its congeners by the smooth margin of gonostomal lips and lack of rectal caecum. Brief references are also made to the morphological distinction between the new species and Thalassema owstoni, originally described from the deep bottom on the Japanese Pacific coast.  相似文献

The examination of gill parasites from Pangasius pangasius (Hamilton, 1822); P. kinabatanganensis Roberts & Vidthayanon, 1991; P. rheophilus Pouyaud & Teugels, 2000 and P. nieuwenhuisii (Popta, 1904) (Siluriformes, Pangasiidae) in Southeast Asia revealed the presence of six species of Thaparocleidus Jain, 1952 (Monogenea, Ancylodiscoidinae). One has been previously described from P. pangasius: T. pangasi (Tripathi, 1957). The other five are new species: T. chandpuri n. sp. from P. pangasius; T. bahari n. sp. and T. sabanensis n. sp. from P. kinabatanganensis; T. redebensis n. sp. from P. rheophilus and T. mahakamensis n. sp. from P. nieuwenhuisii.  相似文献

Collections to explore helminth diversity among free-ranging ungulates in the North American Arctic revealed the occurrence of a third male, or " davtiani ," morphotype for Teladorsagia boreoarcticus . Designated as T. boreoarcticus forma (f.) minor B, the males occurred with T. boreoarcticus f. major and T. borearcticus f. minor A in endemic populations of muskoxen (Ovibos moschatus wardi) and barrenground caribou (Rangifer tarandus groenlandicus) on Victoria Island, Nunavut, Canada, and in muskoxen and Peary caribou ( Rangifer tarandus pearyi ) on Banks Island, Northwest Territories, Canada. These specimens differ from conspecific morphotypes in the structure of the genital cone and Sj?berg's organ. Relative to T. boreoarcticus f. minor A, specimens of T. boreoarcticus f. minor B are consistently smaller, and mean dimensions for the bursa and spicules do not overlap. The robust spicules are similar in form, particularly in the relative length of the dorsal and ventral processes, but mean total length is substantially less in specimens of T. boreoarcticus f. minor B. Differences that distinguish the minor morphotypes of T. boreoarcticus parallel those demonstrated for the T. trifurcata and T. davtiani morphotypes in association with T. circumcincta sensu stricto. New host and geographic records include the 3 morphotypes of T. boreoarcticus in muskoxen and Peary caribou from Banks Island and in barrenground caribou from Victoria Island. Recognition of the ubiquitous nature of cryptic species emphasizes the need to effectively develop and use our collections-based resources and museum archives to build a robust understanding of the biosphere. Field inventory should include provisions for integrative approaches that preserve specimens suitable for comparative morphology, multi-faceted molecular investigations, and population genetics.  相似文献

Longidorus intermedius Kozlowska & Seinhorst, 1979 is redescribed from specimens recovered from oak (Quercus L.) forests in Bulgaria. The male and the first-stage juvenile were recorded for the first time, as were populations from Macedonia and Turkey. L. intermedius is identified here as the first species in the genus with only three juvenile stages and a pan-European distribution. The species was recovered from 36 of 46 oak forests in Bulgaria, found associated with each of nine oak species sampled and reached population densities of up to 289 specimens per 200 cm(3) of soil. The distribution of L. intermedius in Bulgaria, and in other countries, suggests that this species, like Xenocriconemella macrodora (Taylor, 1936) and probably L. aetnaeus Lamberti, Agostinelli & Vinciguerra, 1986, can be used as an ecological indicator for habitats where Quercus associations represent a primary vegetation type.  相似文献

The type-series of Paraprogynotaenia jimenezi Rysavy, 1966 [type-species of Paraprogynotaenia Rysavy, 1966] from Charadrius wilsonia Ord in Cuba and P. charadrii (Yamaguti, 1956) (= Proterogynotaenia charadrii Yamaguti, 1956) from C. alexandrinus L. in Japan are redescribed. Two new species are described: Paraprogynotaenia minuta n. sp. from C. alexandrinus on the Black Sea coast of Bulgaria [type-host and type-locality, based on specimens previously reported as P. charadrii], from the same host species in Tunisia and from "Tringa totanus" (the host identification is uncertain) in France [the latter two samples were previously reported as Progynotaenia odhneri Nybelin, 1916]; and Paraprogynotaenia canarisi n. sp. from C. marginatus Vieillot in the Republic of South Africa [type-host and type-locality] and from C. alexandrinus and Pluvialis dominica (Müller) in Taiwan [specimens from both localities were previously reported as Paraprogynotaenia charadrii]. P. jimenezi can be distinguished from its congeners by having 12 hooks of equal length. Among the remaining species with 18-22 hooks of varying length, P. minuta n. sp. can be distinguished by the smaller number of proglottides: up to 8 vs 15-20 for P. charadrii and P. canarisi n. sp. The latter two species can be differentiated from one another by the blade length/total length ratio of the smallest (lateral) rostellar hooks, which is less than 0.5 for P. canarisi n. sp. and 0.5 or more for P. charadrii. An identification key to the species of Paraprogynotaenia is provided and the generic diagnosis is amended. A phylogenetic analysis based on 17 morphological characters resulted in the following hypothesis for the relationships within the genus: (P. jimenezi (P. minuta (P. charadrii, P. canarisi))).  相似文献

Pelecanema n. g. is erected for P. sirry (Khalil, 1931) n. comb., syn. Synhimantus sirry Khalil, 1931 (type-species) and P. pelecani (Johnston & Mawson, 1942) n. comb., syn. Dispharynx pelecani Johnston & Mawson, 1942. In the structure of its cordons, consisting of two rows of delicate cuticular plates, the new genus is similar to Synhimantus Railliet, Henry & Sisoff, 1912, Dispharynx Railliet, Henry & Sisoff, 1912, Chordatortilis Machado de Mendon?a & Olivera de Rodrigues, 1965 and Parachordatortilis Mutafchiev, Santoro & Georgiev, 2010. Pelecanema sirry, a parasite of Pelecanus onocrotalus L. and P. crispus Bruch (Pelecaniformes, Pelecanidae) in Africa (Egypt and Senegal) and Europe (Ukraine and Bulgaria), is redescribed using light and scanning electron microscopy on the basis of specimens from P. crispus from Bulgaria. Pelecanema pelecani, a parasite of Pelecanus conspicillatus Temminck in Australia, is also redescribed using light microscopy on the basis of specimens from its type-host and type-locality. In contrast to a previous opinion recognising Pelecanema sirry and P. pelecani as synonyms, the two species are considered distinct and P. pelecani is validated.  相似文献

The lepidopteran family of the Epipyropidae contains currently 32 known species of moths with larvae that are parasitic on plant and leafhoppers as well as cicadas. This paper focuses on behavioural aspects of the final instar of the cicada parasite Epipomponia nawai (Dyer 1904) on the cicada Hyalessa maculaticollis (de Motschulsky 1866) and represents only the second report of the species from South Korea. This species is a new host for E. nawai in Korea, since in the past it had only been reported once from Meimuna opalifera and Oncotympana fuscata in Korea. Molecular relationships between specimens of E. nawai collected in China, Japan, and Korea were analysed. The Chinese haplotypes fell into two groups: one clearly related to the Korean haplotype, but the other tightly affiliated with the Japanese haplotype. The findings suggest two routes for the occurrence of E. nawai in mainland China. Once the host cicada was dead or too weak to move, the caterpillar crawled away from it, seeking a place to pupate. Very little is known about parasitic Lepidoptera and therefore any information on host species or behavioural aspects is of importance.  相似文献
