The formation of new vessels, a process referred to as neoangiogenesis, is one of the key pathophysiological mechanisms in the development and progression of cancer. It contributes to tumour growth and dissemination of neoplastic cells and can determine response or resistance to anticancer therapies. It involves different signaling pathways including the vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) pathway and integrins, which are also preferred targets for the development of antiangiogenic therapies. Changes in the microvasculature induced by antiangiogenic treatments occur before morphological changes can be detected with conventional imaging approaches. The development of molecular tools enabling an assessment of these targets before initiating therapy, or early detection of response or recurrence during or following treatment is essential for the close monitoring of antiangiogenic treatments. These outstanding needs call for the development of specific probes enabling the characterization of the molecules and pathways involved. This review summarizes the major signaling pathway involved in promoting tumor neoangiogenes is, the different radiotracers recently developed in preclinical and clinical settings, as well as their potential use in humans in order to improve the management of patients treated with antiangiogenic treatments.

The authors report a clinical case observed during a medical expertise of an iatrogenic accident (priapism) secondary to the treatment of a psychogenic impotence with papaverine injection in intracavernous. It’s a 27 year old patient, single, teacher, without pathological antecedents, who, after a psycho-affective shock (break with his girl-friend), showed a diminished sewal desire and erectile power. These complaints led him to consult an urologist, who prescribed a hormonal check-up and a medical treatment based on Yohimbine^* for two weeks. Seeing no improvement of his state, he consulted another urologist who gave him an intracavernous Papaverine chlorydrate injection (40 mg). The immediate main consequen?s were a priapism necessitating a surgical intervention (caverno-spongious anastomosis), practised one day after the injection. Following the intervention, the patient complains of a persistant impoten?, which led him to sue his Doctor for a professional error having led to a permanent sexual prejudice. The error retained against the Doctor consists in a bad control of his patient, which led to delay in taking the latter in charge, a classical complication resulting from the treatment prescribed. Because of the existence of an error, a damage caused and a cause link, the responsibility of the Doctor is in question. From this case, the authors insist on the necessity of a psychologic evaluation prior to every medicinal treatment of a psychogenic impotence.

The four diastereoisomeric methyl 2,4,6-trideoxy-4-trifluoroacetamido-l-hexopyranosides have been synthesized. Coupling of the corresponding 1-O-acetyl-3-O-benzoyl-l-lyxo and 1-O-acetyl-3-O-p-nitrobenzoyl-l-arabino derivatives with daunomycinone in the presence of p-toluensulfonic acid as catalyst afforded two new anthracyclines.

Analysis of metaphasic meiotic karyotypes in male of Pleurode les waltlii(Amphibia, Urodela) after silver ammoniacal staining of chromosomes. In the newtPleurodeles waltlii, the ammoniacal silver staining technique was applied to the male meiotic chromosomes at metaphase I and II. A specific staining of paracentromeric heterochromatin and of the centromere is observed on each chromosome of the complements. The two karyotypes are analysed and the homology between meiotic and mitotic chromosomes is established.

Le Plio-Pléistocène de Camerota(Italie méridionale): Géomorphologie et Paléoflores

Geomorphological investigations have been carried out in Camerota surroundings where marine microfaunas have been discovered. So, we can separate the Late Pliocene deposits from Calabrian and post-Calabrian levels. Preliminary palynological results show a vegetational evolution in relation with the climate. Leaf-remains give informations on the structure of the vegetation.     

Synthèse du méthyl-2-acétamido-2-désoxy-β-D-glucofuranoside et de dérivés

Methyl 2-acetamido-2-deoxy-5,6-O-isopropylidene-β-D-glucofuranoside was prepared in excellent yield from methyl 2-benzamido-2-deoxy-5,6-O-isopropylidene-β-D-glucofuranoside by alkaline hydrolysis, followed by selective N-acetylation. Treatment with 60% acetic acid at room temperature gave syrupy methyl 2-acetamido-2-deoxy-β-D-glucofuranoside, characterized by a crystalline tri-O-p-nitrobenzoyl derivative. The same treatment, at 100° gave methyl 2-acetamido-2-deoxy-β-D-glucopyranoside. In an alternative procedure, the selective N-acetylation was performed after acetic acid hydrolysis of methyl 2-amino-2-deoxy-5,6-O-isopropylidene-β-D-glucofuranoside. Several derivatives of methyl 2-acetamido-2-deoxy-β-D-glucofuranoside were prepared and compared with the corresponding pyranosides. The furanoside structure was clearly demonstrated by mass spectrometry and periodate oxidation.     

Une syringocèle révélée par un abcès périntéal

Purpose

The authors present a clinical report of a perforate syringocele diagnosed in a male patient and they review the clinical, radiological and therapeutic aspects of this disease.

Case report

A 50-year-old man attended the emergency room with perineal abscess. Computerized Tomography (CT) scan was used to establish the diagnosis. This patient also underwent urethrocystoscopy, sonography and retrograde urethrography.

Results

Treatment consisted of open surgical evacuation of the perineal abscess with bladder catheter. Urethrocystoscopy showed a large perforate syringocele in the urethra with no need for endoscopy marsupialization. No recurrence was observed at follow-up at 3 months.

Conclusion

Syringocele is a rare malformation which usually is asymptomatic. It can be congenital or acquired and can be classified into four morphological types. The most frequent treatment is endoscopic marsupialization of the syringocèle. Open surgical excision is recommended for complicated syringocèle with abscess or perineal pain.

What determines phenotype is one of the most fundamental questions in biology. Historically, most studies have focused on genetics but more recent studies have revealed the existence of epigenetic modifications that are not based on DNA sequencing but are essential for appropriate gene expression. Importantly, these epigenetic modifications can be inherited by the offspring. Thus, both male and female gametes contain inherited epigenetic information.

In this article, the paraplegics’ possibilities for procreation will be examined. A first chapter will deal with the testicle functioning along with the study of hormonal measuring and testicle histology (study involving 100 patients). As a result, it appears that, after a testicle biopsy, there is a testicle lesion of neurological origin that is sometimes irreversible. On the contrary, the endocrinal testicle lesions have proved reversible under stimulation or spontaneously. A second chapter will deal with the different techniques to obtain an ejaculation and the semen analysis. The techniques that were used being: massage by vibrator, electroejaculation, ejaculation through pharmacological stimulation. The study focuses on 124 ejaculatory tests among which 64 forward ejaculations (52%) and 4 bachward ejaculations (3%) were obtained. The resulting semen analysis revealed a spermatozoon count greater than 20 millions per millilitre (that is 51,5%) and smaller than 5 millions in 11 cases (16%).
