The mechanical properties (modulus of elasticity and stress-relaxation) of different venous segments of the canine superior vena cava were determined as well as the composition of the vessel wall by means of physical, biochemical and histological methods. It was found that the wall of the vena cava was structurally and mechanically a function of the metric position with respect to the right heart: the modulus of elasticity increased, the stress-relaxation decreased, the concentration of hydroxyproline, collagen and elastin increased and the amount of muscle fibres decreased with increasing distal distance from the right heart. A significant linear correlation coefficient was observed between the modulus of elasticity and the structural wall components. The data presented show the axial heterogeneity and the dependency of the mechanical properties upon the venous vessel wall composition. 相似文献

A similarity of the blood flow shifts in response to every single pressor or depressor stimulus in the v. cava anterior in cats and a possibility of dissimilar changes of capacity of the vein's vascular basin under the effect of one and the same stimulus, are revealed. This dissimilarity is mainly due to a skin-muscular component of this vascular basin. An increase in the central venous pressure from 0 to 40 mm of water limits the extent of shifts in the capacity function of the v. cava anterior's basin. The blood flow changes in the v. cava anterior is mainly due to a relationship among regional components of the vessels' total peripheral resistance. A potential possible contribution of the v. cava anterior basin vessels capacitance's shifts constitutes 17.5%, whereas under the effect of neurogenic stimuli in the increase of the blood flow in the v. cava anterior may be completely (up to 100%) maintained by a drop of the capacitance of the vein's vascular basin. 相似文献

The cardiomyocytes in the superior vena cava (SVC) myocardial sleeve have distinct action potentials and ionic current profiles, but the refractoriness of these cells has not been reported. Using standard intracellular microelectrode techniques, we demonstrated in sheep that the effective refractory period (ERP) of the cardiomyocytes in the SVC (114.7 +/- 6.5 ms) is shorter than that in the inferior vena cava (IVC) (166.7 +/- 6.2 ms), right atrial free wall (RAFW) (201.0 +/- 6.0 ms) and right atrial appendage (RAA) (203.1 +/- 5.8 ms) (P < 0.05). The right atrial cardiomyocyte ERP was heterogeneously shortened by acetylcholine, a muscarinic type 2 receptor (M(2)R) agonist. After perfusion with 15 microM acetylcholine, the shortest ERP occurred in the SVC (the ERP in the SVC, IVC, RAFW and RAA was 53.6 +/- 2.7, 98.9 +/- 2.2, 121.8 +/- 6.0 and 109.7 +/- 5.1 ms, respectively; P < 0.05). Carbachol (1 microM), another M(2)R agonist, produced a similar effect as acetylcholine. Furthermore, we used methoctramine, a M(2)R blocker, 4-DAMP, a muscarinic type 3 receptor (M(3)R) blocker, and tropicamide, a muscarinic type 4 receptor (M(4)R) blocker to inhibit the acetylcholine-induced ERP shortening of SVC cardiomyocytes, and found that the 50% inhibitory concentration for methoctramine, 4-DAMP and tropicamide was 5.91, 45.72 and 80.34 nM, respectively. Therefore, we conclude that the sheep SVC myocardial sleeve is a unique electrophysiological region of the right atrium with the shortest ERP both under physiological condition and under cholinergic agonist stimulation. M(2)R might play a major role in the response of the SVC myocardial sleeve to parasympathetic nerve tone. The association between the distinct refractoriness in SVC and atrial fibrillation originating from the region deserves further investigation. 相似文献

In 97 human cadavers the valves of the following blood vessels were investigated with regard to their cusps and their sizes and positions: the internal jugular veins, the subclavian veins, the brachiocephalic veins, and the superior vena cava. The cusps of each of the valves, which consist of two or three parts, are neither always of equal size nor obligatorily sufficient. Unipartite valves may be sufficient as well as insufficient. Internal jugular veins: The inferior bulb of the internal jugular vein is provided with valves which in 6% of the cases consist of three parts, in 66% of two parts, and in 15% of only one cusp. The concave margins of most of them go down as far as the venous angle. The convex edges attached to the wall of the vein extend to a higher level on the right side than on the left. In 13% there do not exist any valves. Varieties are described separately in this paper. Subclavian veins: Valves are found along the length of the vessel. Only few of them reach the venous angle. In rare cases there exist two valves: one at the beginning, the other at the end of the subclavian vein. In 4% of the cases the valves consist of three, in 75% of two cusps. In 12% they are unipartite. In 9% there are no valves to be found. The right side is more often without valves than the left. Brachiocephalic veins: Only a minority of these vessels is provided with valves. Most of these consist of one cusp, are insufficient, and are situated in the left innominate vein.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS) 相似文献

The aim of this study was to explore the changes of the Doppler flow spectra of the superior vena cava (SVC) in a rat model of chronic pulmonary hypertension (PH). Thirty-two rats were injected with monocrotaline (MCT) to establish a model of chronic PH. Eight rats from the control group had a sham operation by injecting Dulbecco's phosphate-buffered solution. Serial echocardiographic parameters of the SVC were analysed four weeks after treating with MCT or placebo, and the relationship was analysed between the Doppler flow spectra of SVC and the pulmonary arterial systolic pressure (PASP). PH models were successfully established in 29 rats. The right ventricular systolic pressure, mean pulmonary arterial pressure and PASP in the PH group were significantly higher than those in the sham group at 28 days (P < 0.001). The ratios of SVC maximum reverse peak flow velocity/maximum systolic peak flow velocity (VAr/VS) and maximum reverse peak velocity time integral/maximum systolic peak velocity time integral (VTIAr/VTIS) increased significantly (P < 0.05) after MCT injection. These results demonstrate that echocardiography can be used to monitor the haemodynamic changes in SVC in MCT-induced chronic PH rat models. The ratios of VAr/VS and VTIAr/VTIS may be sensitive indices for evaluating PH. 相似文献

As a special focus in initiating and maintaining atrial fibrillation (AF), cardiomyocytes in superior vena cava (SVC) have distinctive electrophysiological characters. In this study, we found that comparing with the right atrial (RA) cardiomyoctyes, the SVC cardiomyoctyes had longer APD90 at the different basic cycle lengths; the conduction block could be observed on both RA and SVC cardiomyoctyes. A few of SVC cardiomyoctyes showed slow response action potentials with automatic activity and some others showed early afterdepolarization (EAD) spontaneously. Further more, we found that there are nonselective cation current (I Ns) in both SVC and RA cardiomyocytes. The peak density of I Ns in SVC cardiomyocytes was smaller than that in RA cardiomyocytes. Removal of extracellular divalent cation and glucose could increase I Ns in SVC cardiomyocytes. The agonist or the antagonist of I Ns may increase or decrease APD. To sum up, some SVC cardiomyocytes possess the ability of spontaneous activity; the difference of transmembrane action potentials between SVC and RA cardiomyocytes is partly because of the different density of I Ns between them; the agonist or the antagonist of I Ns can increase or decrease APD leading to the enhancement or reduction of EAD genesis in SVC cardiomyocytes. I Ns in rabbit myocytes is fairly similar to TRPC3 current in electrophysiological property, which might play an important role in the mechanisms of AF. 相似文献

It is concluded that subcutaneous adipose tissue autoregulates its blood flow only weakly or not at all in the range of perfusion pressures employed in our studies. Instead, these experiments demonstrate that when perfusion pressure is altered in the fat pad, vascular resistance must change in an opposite direction since there is little tendency for the flow to return to control values. Therefore, the vascular bed is responding passively. Furthermore, there was little evidence of autoregulation in denervated tissues indicating that the extrinsic neural control does not mask an underlying ability to modulate flow. 相似文献

The influence of different types of maneuvers that can induce sudden changes of arterial blood pressure (ABP) on the cerebral blood flow velocity (CBFV) response was studied in 56 normal subjects (mean age 62 yr, range 23-80). ABP was recorded in the finger with a Finapres device, and bilateral recordings of CBFV were performed with Doppler ultrasound of the middle cerebral arteries. Recordings were performed at rest (baseline) and during the thigh cuff test, lower body negative pressure, cold pressor test, hand grip, and Valsalva maneuver. From baseline recordings, positive and negative spontaneous transients were also selected. Stability of PCO2 was monitored with transcutaneous measurements. Dynamic autoregulatory index (ARI), impulse, and step responses were obtained for 1-min segments of data for the eight conditions by fitting a mathematical model to the ABP-CBFV baseline and transient data (Aaslid's model) and by the Wiener-Laguerre moving-average method. Impulse responses were similar for the right- and left-side recordings, and their temporal pattern was not influenced by type of maneuver. Step responses showed a sudden rise at time 0 and then started to fall back to their original level, indicating an active autoregulation. ARI was also independent of the type of maneuver, giving an overall mean of 4.7 +/- 2.9 (n = 602 recordings). Amplitudes of the impulse and step responses, however, were significantly influenced by type of maneuver and were highly correlated with the resistance-area product before the sudden change in ABP (r = -0.93, P < 0.0004). These results suggest that amplitude of the CBFV step response is sensitive to the point of operation of the instantaneous ABP-CBFV relationship, which can be shifted by different maneuvers. Various degrees of sympathetic nervous system activation resulting from different ABP-stimulating maneuvers were not reflected by CBFV dynamic autoregulatory responses within the physiological range of ABP. 相似文献
