Behavior of 19 Chinchilla rabbits was tested in the open field. By the results of the first trial, animals were divided into three groups by the type of the exploratory locomotor activity (passive--37%; active--21; and medium--42%). During the repeated open field trials, the passive rabbits increased their activity and the active ones decreased it. Correlations were found between the open field behavior and patterns of the external respiration in the absence of movements. The longest respiratory cycles, expirations and respiratory breath holdings were observed in passive rabbits. Animals with prevailing right turnings in the open field displayed longer respiratory cycles and expirations than those with prevailing left turnings. It seems that the pattern of external respiration can predict the passive defensive strategy of rabbits in negative emotional situations.  相似文献

A group of female Chinchilla rabbits was exposed through inhalation to the metal aerosol derived from dumped waste of a nickel smelter. The experiments were carried out in a field exposure station. Increased levels of tissue immune complexes were found in the myocardium and lungs of P females, whereas F1 rabbits (exposed both prenatally and 6 weeks postnatally) from the same group of P females had significantly elevated serum circulating immune complexes as compared to controls. In P rabbits, nonspecific serum tumoricidal activity was increased by 8.2%, while in F1 animals the increase was by 14%. Transplantation immunity was examined in a group of inbred Lewis rats following the transplantation of a skin allograft from the ear of inbred Berlin-Druckrey rats. The mean time of allograft survival in animals following i.v. administration metal dust suspension 2 days prior to transplantation, was prolonged as compared to controls. On day 22 after allograft transplantation, lactate dehydrogenase activity was found to be reduced in peripheral lymphocytes, and the liver and spleen weight proved to be diminished. These findings suggest a modulating effect of the metal dust from a nickel smelter regarding nonspecific serum tumoricidal activity and transplantation immunity as well as immune complex formation.  相似文献

Interstrain differences in the structure of the mouse and rat adrenal cortex are well known, but related data on rabbits are not available. This study was planned to demonstrate possible strain differences in rabbit adrenal morphology and morphological evidence of a communication between cortex and medulla. For this purpose, the zonation of the adrenal cortex of intact mature male and female rabbits of different strains (New Zealand, Chinchilla and California) were compared using morphometry and the corticomedullary junction was evaluated for close relationship. Marked intersex and interstrain differences were found in the adrenocortical zonation. Female rabbits had larger adrenocortical zones than corresponding males. The rabbits of Chinchilla and California strains had the largest cortical sizes. This difference depended largely upon the higher thickness of the zona fasciculata. Whereas, there were no significant strain differences in the thickness of zona glomerulosa and zona reticularis. Furthermore, examination of corticomedullary junction showed that cortex and medulla were interwoven. Single and small accumulations of cortical cells were spread throughout the medulla. Our morphological data showed the presence of significant interstrain differences in the adrenocortical zonation in the rabbits and provide evidence for a possible paracrine interaction between medullary and cortical cells.  相似文献

Effects of different extracts of Hypericum perforatum L. on the kindling epileptic discharges were analyzed. The experiment was carried out on Chinchilla rabbits with chronically implanted electrodes in cortical structures and hippocampus. In our study we used water, n-butanol and ether fractions (mass concentrations 0.1 g/ml) of crude ethanol extract of Hypericum perforatum. The particular extracts were given intramuscularly in single dose of 1 ml/kg BW. The bioelectric activity was registered before and after applications of each extracts. The obtained results show that the effect depends on the constituents present in particular fractions. The repression of epileptic activity was in correlation with the polarity of plant constituents. Most polar constituents that remained in water fraction exerted highest antiepileptic activity in all (100%) animals tested. Substances present in butanol fraction repressed the epileptic manifestations in 40% of animals with kindling epilepsy, whereas lipid-soluble constituents in ether fraction potentated the epileptic activity.  相似文献

Breathing patterns were recorded during "animal hypnosis" in seven Chinchilla rabbits. The state of "animal hypnosis" was evoked by the hand pressure on the thorax and the waist of a rabbit. Breathing pattern was recorded by means of an elastic coal-powder element that was set round the rabbit's thorax. Distortions of the breathing patterns in the active state and in the course of hypnosis development were marked by numbers 0, 1, 2. In all rabbits, modifications of the breathing patterns depended on the features of the animal state: quiet state, tension, and "animal hypnosis".  相似文献

Angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitors are widely used in therapy of cardiovascular diseases. However, the consensus on effects of these inhibitors in control of myocardial oxygen consumption during the process of experimental hypercholesterolemia and under the condition of endothelial dysfunction has not been reached. Here we examined effects of captopril, an angiotensin converting enzyme inhibitor, on serum lipid levels and oxygen consumption rate in mitochondria isolated from heart of rabbits treated by hypercholesterolemic diet. During the twelve-week period, the Chinchilla male rabbits were daily treated by saline (controls); 1 % cholesterol diet; 5 mg/kg/day captopril or 1 % cholesterol + 5 mg/kg/day captopril. Total- and high-density lipoprotein cholesterol and triglyceride in serum were measured spectrophotometrically. The left ventricle mitochondrial fraction was isolated and myocardial oxygen consumption was measured by Biological Oxygen Monitor. Mitochondria isolated from hearts of rabbits exposed to hypercholesterolemic diet showed significantly reduced respiration rates (state 3 and state 4) with altering adenosine diphosphate/oxygen ratio, whereas the respiratory control ratio was not affected when compared to controls. Mitochondria from cholesterol/captopril-treated animals showed significantly reduced respiration rates without altering adenosine diphosphate/oxygen ratio index or respiratory control ratio. Although captopril did not exert the favorable effect on serum lipid levels in cholesterol-treated animals, it restored the mitochondrial oxygen consumption. Further studies should be performed to define the underlying physiological and/or pathophysiological mechanisms and clinical implications.  相似文献

文章设计了杂交、回交和全同胞交配3个实验, 对美系白色獭兔(♂)和青紫蓝肉兔(♀)杂交所产生的白色蓝眼獭兔突变体的遗传机制进行了等位性测试。结果表明, 白色獭兔蓝眼突变体是维也纳座位(V)发生隐性突变的结果。基因v纯合(vv)对家兔基本毛色基因座(A、B、C、D、E)具有隐性上位作用, 无论其他毛色座位的基因型如何, 只要vv存在即可产生白色蓝眼兔。vv基因型与rr基因型组合即可产生白色蓝眼獭兔。白色蓝眼獭兔突变体在我国家兔育种中是一个新发现, 其遗传机制的阐明, 对獭兔育种和生产具有重要的指导意义。  相似文献

Chronic experiments were made on intact rabbits and rabbits with destroyed paraventricular and ventromedial nuclei of the hypothalamus to explore the hydrocortisone-induced inhibition of the stressor response of the pituitary-adrenocortical system. Intravenous injection of hydrocortisone in a dose of 100 micrograms/kg 5 minutes before immobilization stress led to inhibition of corticosteroid elevation induced by immobilization of the animals. Inhibition of the stressor reaction was maximal in intact animals, less in rabbits with destroyed ventromedial nuclei, and further less in animals with destroyed paraventricular nuclei. The paraventricular and ventromedial nuclei of the hypothalamus are necessary for inhibition of the pituitary-adrenocortical system by the feedback mechanisms.  相似文献

目的从酪氨酸酶基因序列和表达量两个方面探讨酪氨酸酶与家兔虹膜颜色表型的关系。方法通过PCR扩增和测序检测4个具有不同颜色性状的家兔品种的酪氨酸酶基因外显子序列多态性;通过荧光定量PCR检测酪氨酸酶基因表达水平。结果白化品种日本大耳白兔和獭兔的TYR基因序列在第1118个碱基处都由C突变为A,并导致编码蛋白在373位,即最后一个N-糖基化位点发生由Thr到Lys的突变。白毛黑眼兔和青紫兰兔在第870个碱基处全部发生由A到T的无义突变。在白毛黑眼兔种群的所有个体和獭兔种群的部分个体中都发现TYR基因序列在第91个碱基处发生G到A的突变,导致氨基酸序列第31位处Val到Met的变异。经内参基因GAPDH的校正,TYR基因在白毛黑眼兔和青紫兰兔中表达水平显著高于在日本大耳白兔和獭兔中的表达水平(P〈0.01)。而在白毛黑眼兔和青紫兰兔之间、日本大耳白兔和獭兔之间,TYR基因的表达差异没有显著性。结论家兔TYR基因突变可能大幅度降低TYR基因表达,导致酪氨酸酶功能低下,从而影响虹膜颜色表型。  相似文献

Niphtholid (25 mg/kg/dl for 60 days) significantly increases the LH and testosterone blood levels but has no marked effect on ++androstenedione and testosterone-estradiol-binding globulin levels in Chinchilla++ mature rabbits. The concentration of latter was elevated against a background of low testosterone and androstenedione and high LH levels in the castrated rabbits. The obtained results show that niphtholid exerts a continuous stimulating and pronounced effect on the rabbit pituitary-gonadal axis and simultaneously prevents the manifestation of suppressing androgen effect on testosterone-estradiol-binding globulin contents in the organism.  相似文献

Different behavioral reactivity of rabbit groups differentiated by locomotor activity in the "open field" was revealed during exposure to emotional stimuli (rustle, loud sound, pressuring on back of the neck, vibroacoustic tactile stimulation of an ear). In passive rabbits, the active locomotor reactions were induced harder and freezing was obtained easier than in active animals. During exposure to sound stimuli, passive rabbits increased their locomotion more rarely than active animals, pressing on back of the neck produced longer freezing, a threshold of defensive ear shaking in response to a vibroacoustic stimulus in passive animals was highest. Training to mild immobilization increased the threshold of defensive responses in active rabbits and animals of the intermediate type. Changes in respiratory parameters were correlated with behavioral reactions to emotional stimuli. The duration of exhalation and respiratory cycle increased during freezing and increased during enhanced locomotion. The duration of inhalation decreased in response to emotional stimuli irrespective of a behavioral reaction. The respiratory reactions to emotional stimuli differed in rabbits of different groups. The respiratory rate more frequently changed in passive rabbits than in animals of other groups. Passive animals reacted mainly by exhalation, active rabbits and animals from the intermediate group predominantly responded by inhalation.  相似文献

Our study compared the contributions of activation sequence and local repolarization durations distribution in the organization of epicardial repolarization in animals with fast (rabbit) and slow (frog) myocardial activation under sinus rhythm. Activation times, repolarization times and activation-recovery intervals (ARI) were obtained from ventricular epicardial unipolar electrograms recorded in 13 Chinchilla rabbits (Oryctolagus cuniculus) and 10 frogs (Rana temporaria). In frogs, depolarization travels from the atrioventricular ring radially. ARIs increased progressively from the apex to the middle portion and finally to the base (502+/-75, 557+/-73, 606+/-79 ms, respectively; P<0.01). In rabbits, depolarization spread from two epicardial breakthroughs with the duration of epicardial activation being lower than that in frogs (17+/-3 vs. 44+/-18 ms; P<0.001). ARI durations were 120+/-37, 143+/-45, and 163+/-40 ms in the left ventricular apex, left, and right ventricular bases, respectively (P<0.05). In both species, repolarization sequence was directed from apex to base according to the ARI distribution with dispersion of repolarization being higher than that of activation (P<0.001). Thus, excitation spread sequence and velocity per se do not play a crucial role in the formation of ventricular epicardial repolarization pattern, but the chief factor governing repolarization sequences is the distribution of local repolarization durations.  相似文献

A group of female Chinchilla rabbits was exposed respiratory to metal aerosol originating from dumped wastes of a nickel smelter. The experiment was carried out in a biomonitoring station situated 4 km away from the dump in the direction of prevailing winds. Metals (Fe, Cr, Ni) introduced by inhaled waste particles were found in the increased amount in the body organs of exposed (P and F1) animals. Following a 3-months exposure of female rabbits (P), the elevated level of Cr in liver and kidneys was found, and after 6-month exposure also in the heart and thigh muscles. The Ni content proved to be increased in the lungs, heart and thigh muscles following 3-month period and in the liver after the 6-month exposure. Concerning the Fe content, it was already elevated in all the organs investigated except the lungs after 3-month exposure. The alveolar macrophage (AM) count was increased significantly in the exposed female rabbits (P) only after 6 months (P less than 0.05) and rose continually till the end of 9-month exposure (P less than 0.01). The enzyme activity of lysosomes was enhanced after 9-month exposure. In F1 rabbits 6 weeks of age elevated levels of chromium were found in the liver, kidneys, heart and thigh muscles. The Fe content was increased in the liver and thigh muscle, while the Ni content was enhanced only in the brain. The increased mucus secretion was observed on the tracheal mucous relief of F1 rabbits in response to the noxious effect of needle-shaped metal particles using an electron scanning microscope, despite the short duration (6 weeks) of postnatal exposure. The reported findings emphasize the effects of metal particles originating from the waste of a nickel smelter in an environment where the mean value of the dust fallout was only 4 g.m-2.30 days-1.  相似文献

Conventional solitary caging for research rabbits precludes many postural and social behaviors. Several studies that have investigated enrichment strategies for rabbit does have found intact males usually too aggressive for paired or group housing. This study investigated the possibilities that male siblings will remain compatible if never separated from birth and that castration will improve compatibility among young sibling male rabbits. As a side benefit of pair housing for all rabbits, the larger cages (modified dog cages) allowed rest and other postures not possible in conventional single cages. In addition, there was no evidence of the stereotypies observed among individually housed rabbits. Castrated, post-weanling, male, Flemish Giant x Giant Chinchilla rabbit littermates demonstrated a significantly higher level of living together compatibly than did the intact controls. All rabbits chose to rest in close proximity or contact, although this preference was stronger in castrated males. During puberty, intact males displayed more serious aggression. We conclude that young adult littermate rabbits can live compatibly as pairs and that castration improves compatibility among males. Paired rabbits exhibit many postures and behaviors that are not possible in the small, solitary cages currently listed as minimum recommendations.  相似文献

The natural occurrence of established Helicobacter species was investigated in the stomachs of 65 laboratory rabbits, by means of polymerase chain reaction (PCR) (65/65) and histological analysis (51/65). The degree of inflammation in the different regions of the rabbits' stomach was evaluated on haematoxylin and eosin (HE)-stained histological slides. Four rabbits were found positive for Helicobacter species by PCR. Based on 16S ribosomal ribonucleic acid (rRNA) sequences, H. canadensis/H. pullorum organisms were identified in three animals. Bacteria were seen on merely one histological slide from one of these animals. H. felis was identified in one rabbit. Histological examination revealed no inflammation in the stomachs of 40 rabbits, while moderate gastric inflammation was seen in 11 animals, mainly in the antrum. In conclusion, the stomach of the laboratory rabbits included in the study was occasionally found positive for Helicobacter species, which were mostly identified as enterohepatic helicobacters, probably reflecting a mere passage of these bacteria through the stomach.  相似文献

The concentration of total, free and bound cholesterol in the blood serum of 13 intact Chinchilla male rabbits was determined in two four-month experiments carried out in 1973-1974 and in 1984-1985 during a "minimum" phase of an 11-year solar activity cycle. A hierarchy of ten cholesterol biorhythms and solar activity rhythms were singled out on a computer, using an original algorithm, in the individual changes in cholesterol concentration in each rabbit and in changes in seven environmental indexes. A statistical stability of the frequency and phase of low-frequency cholesterol biorhythms and solar activity rhythms has been established within an 11-year period, the fluctuation amplitude of the indexes studied being, on the contrary, statistically unstable.  相似文献

Laboratory rabbits are commonly used for testing the tissue response of neural device biomaterials. Rabbits of many colonies in the U.S. are infected by the intracellular microsporidian parasite, Encephalitozoon cuniculi, with rates of infection ranging from 15 to 76% (1). Several authors have suggested that infection by this parasite may alter immune system response and experimental results. We report that infection by E. cuniculi made the interpretation of results more difficult and altered the animals' responsiveness to implanted platinum wires coated with various polymers such as glow discharge methane, Parylene C, or polyimide. Edema, neuronal and glial reaction, and inflammatory responses to the coated wires were quantitated at four sites in each animal. Inconsistency of response in all measured parameters was found, both between animals and between sites in infected animals. Infected animals showed the greatest variability, primarily in the degree of inflammatory reaction. Parylene C was found to induce the most severe inflammatory reaction, an unexpected finding. No consistent reaction to any of the coating materials was found in this study. We believe that this variability in response was primarily due to infection by E. cuniculi. Our results suggest that rabbits should not be used for tissue compatibility testing of neural device biomaterials until the animals are free of E. cuniculi infestation as demonstrated by serologic screening.  相似文献

The functional activity of P-glycoprotein (Pgp) was studied in Chinchilla rabbits after orchiectomy and administration of testosterone undecanoate after surgery. The functional activity of Pgp was determined by the pharmacokinetics of fexofenadine, its marker substrate. In addition, the localization of the transport protein was assessed in the liver, kidney, and jejunum by the immunohistochemistry. It was found that a decrease in the serum testosterone concentration after orchiectomy leads to an increase in Pgp activity on the 14th and 21st days after the surgery, which is accompanied by an increase in the staining intensity of Pgp-positive epithelium membranes of the proximal and distal renal tubules. It was found that the administration of testosterone at a dose of 6 mg/kg body weight in the period after the surgery neutralizes these changes.  相似文献

In experiments on rabbits with electrodes chronically implanted in the lateral hypothalamus, dynamics was studied of extinction of self-stimulation reaction as a result of cancellation of intracerebral reinforcement. General dynamics of extinction of the unreinforced instrumental actions and behavioural manifestations of orienting-investigating reaction were revealed. It was found, that in 30% of rabbits, the orienting reaction appearing as a result of "discordance" between expected and actual afferentation is attended by a species-specific form of behaviour, expressed in the form of hind paws synergic strokes against the floor. It is suggested that these strokes may be a somatic expression of a negative emotional state of animals during self-stimulation extinction. The comparison of extinction dynamics with the level of self-stimulation background frequency showed a relative independence of the strength of drive towards getting positive emotions on motivational effects created by electric stimulation of the reinforcing brain structures.  相似文献

We investigated the effects of zinc on the function and ultrastructure of endothelial cells in the case of a 48-day immobilization stress provoked in Chinchilla male rabbits (n=18) by placing them in metal hutches. Half of those rabbits (n=9) received an daily oral supplement of zinc at a dose of 0.3 mg/kg body weight (in the form of zinc acetate). The control rabbits had no intervention and received no supplement of zinc. The relaxation of smooth muscles from thoracic aorta as mediated by acetylcholine at concentrations from 10(-8) mol/L to 10(-4) mol/L was determined in isometric regime. Responses were expressed as the percentage of relaxation to prostaglandin F2alpha (2.10(-5) mol/L)-induced precontraction. The ultrastructure of endothelial cells was evaluated by electron microscopy. The level of total cholesterol and zinc in the blood serum was determined by an enzymatic method and by atomic absorption spectrometry, respectively. In rabbits receiving no zinc supplement, the relaxation of smooth muscles under the influence of acetylcholine concentrations from 10(-8) mol/L to 10(-4) mol/L was significantly (P < 0.05-0.01) lower than in rabbits receiving a supplement of zinc and lower than in control rabbits. Also, in the rabbits not receiving the zinc supplement, the level of total blood serum cholesterol was increased, but the concentration of zinc decreased. In rabbits receiving the zinc supplement, the contractility of the smooth muscles effected by acetylcholine did not change as compared with control rabbits, and we found a normal structure of endothelial cells and a normal level of total cholesterol and zinc in their blood serum. Thus, zinc played an important role in the maintenance of the normal ultrastructure and function of the endothelial cells in the rabbits receiving zinc under immobilization stress.  相似文献
