  • 1.1. Fingerlings of intergenious hybrid Russian sturgeon (Acipenser guldenstadti) × beluga (Huso huso) weighing 22 g reared in water with salinity 18 ppt were fed nine diets differing in protein and fat content.

Poly-β-hydroxybutyrate (PHB) is a natural polymer that can be depolymerized into water-soluble short-chain fatty acid monomers. These monomers can act as microbial control agents. In this study, the effects of partially replacing the diet of Siberian sturgeon fingerlings with 2% and 5% PHB were investigated. Replacing 2% of the diet with PHB improved weight gain, specific growth rate (SGR) and survival in the sturgeon fingerlings during the 10-week experimental period. Community-level physiological profiling and PCR-denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (PCR-DGGE) were used to analyze the microbial community diversity and community organization in the sturgeon gastrointestinal tract. DGGE analysis revealed that PHB affected the intestinal microbial species richness and diversity. The highest species richness was observed with 2% PHB. DNA sequencing of the dominant bands in 2% and 5% PHB treatments revealed that PHB stimulated bacteria belonging to the genera Bacillus and Ruminococcaceae. Principal component analysis, Lorenz curves and the Shannon index of Biolog Ecoplate data revealed that aerobic metabolic potential of the bacterial community was different in the PHB-treated fishes as compared with the control situation. Overall, our results indicate that PHB act as microbial control agents and replacement of 2% of Siberian sturgeon fingerling diet with PHB has beneficial effects.  相似文献

Atlantic sturgeon (Acipenser oxyrinchus), also known as Baltic sturgeon, is considered extinct in German waters. Fish‐rearing for conservation purposes largely relies on classical hatchery technology focusing on traits like survival and growth in captivity but rarely focusing on subsequent life in the wild, lacking skills such as foraging or anti‐predation behavior. Predation is hence a major factor for mortality in newly stocked individuals. The aim of this study was to evaluate if naïve Baltic sturgeon juveniles were able to recognize a common predator—zander (Sander lucioperca)by olfactory cues and adapt accordingly. Over a period of 30 days, Baltic sturgeons were supplied with effluent water from a rearing tank with zander (zander unit) and, as a control, carp (carp unit), three tanks each. Distribution within the tank, morphology of the dorsal scutes, stress (glucose, lactate and cortisol) and gene expression of brain plasticity and cognition were studied in comparison to the control group (carp unit). No significant differences between the zander and the carp unit were observed in any of the parameters measured. Thus, we conclude that naïve Baltic sturgeon is not able to innately recognize potential predators by olfaction alone. Therefore, future studies should focus on applying predator odor together with chemical alarm substances.  相似文献

β-N-Acetylglucosaminidase (β-NAGase) is an enzyme found in the sperm acrosome of numerous animal species including fish. Fish spermatozoa differ in their morphology including acrosome or acrosomeless aquasperm in chondrostean (e.g., sturgeon) and teleostean (e.g., rainbow trout). It has been shown that β-NAGase exists with high activity in both eggs and sperm of these species. The present study shows the potency of β-NAGase in fertilization. In rainbow trout, increase in sperm motility parameters (VAP and MOT) were observed in the presence of acetamide, an inhibitor for β-NAGase. In contrast, sperm motility parameters (VCL, VSL, VAP, MOT, and PRG) were reduced on the Siberian sturgeon in the presence of acetamide. The inhibition of the activity of β-NAGase in rainbow trout spermatozoa was led to a reduction in the number of fertilized eggs from 79% to 40%, whereas in sturgeon no change was observed in fertilization. Moreover, inhibition of β-NAGase in both spermatozoa and eggs of trout and sturgeon resulted in significant decrease in fertilization rate from 79% to 1% in rainbow trout and from 84% to 12% in Siberian sturgeon. Our research proves that β-NAGase can play a significant role in the fertilization process in teleosteans.  相似文献

There are three Northeast Pacific Rivers still supporting spawning populations of green sturgeon, Acipenser medirostris, but all have been modified hydrologically and thermally by dam construction. Age 1- to 3-year-old green sturgeon, progeny of artificially spawned, wild-caught Klamath River adults, were used to assess the effects of temperature and carbon dioxide on critical hematological parameters related to evolutionary adaptations of this species to its physical environment. In vitro measurement of the effect of temperature and carbon dioxide on blood–oxygen affinity and equilibrium curve shape yielded the following data for the respective temperature treatments (11, 15, 19, and 24°C): half-saturation values (P50’s, kPa, a measure of affinity) 1.26, 1.44, 1.63, 1.69 for low-PCO2 treatments and 2.08, 2.41, 2.74, 2.94 for high-PCO2 treatments; Bohr factors ?0.322, ?0.327, ?0.366, ?0.536; and non-bicarbonate buffer values (slykes) ?6, ?3, ?5, ?8. Temperature sensitivities (ΔH, kJ mol O 2 ?1 ) between these respective temperatures were ?34.20, ?15.24, ?6.74 for low-PCO2 treatments and ?20.05, ?27.00, and ?11.55 for the high-PCO2 treatments. These data suggest that juvenile green sturgeon may tolerate moderate environmental hypoxia, moderate aerobic activity, low to moderate hypercapnia, and moderate temperature changes in their environments.  相似文献

Scanning electron microscopy, microspectrophotometry, and spectrophotometry of digitonin extracts were employed to characterize the photoreceptors and visual pigments of two freshwater Acipenseriformes. The retinas of the shovelnose sturgeon, Scaphirhynchus platorynchus (Acipenseridae), and the paddlefish, Polyodon spathula (Polyodontidae) are dominated by large rods with long, broad outer segments. A second rod, rare and much narrower than the dominant rod, is present in Scaphirhynchus but not seen in Polyodon. The absorbance maximum of the visual pigment in the rods of Polyodon is near 540 nm; that of Scaphirhynchus near 534 nm. The retinas of both species contain substantial numbers of large, single cones, about 33% of the photoreceptors in Scaphirhynchus; 37% in Polyodon. Scaphirhynchus cone pigments have absorbance maxima near 610 nm, 521 nm and 470 nm, respectively. Polyodon cone pigments absorb maximally near 607 nm and 535 nm, respectively. All visual pigments are based on vitamin A2. The data are compared to those from other Acipenseriformes and are discussed in terms of lifestyle and behavior. Accepted: 7 October 1998  相似文献

 To investigate the gene organization of the IGH locus, and the VH diversity of the Siberian sturgeon, a cDNA library was constructed and screened with VH-specific probes from two holostean fish. Isolated clones were analyzed and domain-specific probes used in rescreening of the library, Southern blot analysis, and northern blots. It was concluded that the Siberian sturgeon has one IGH locus with a translocon type of organization. Two allelic variants of the mu gene were found, with identities ranging from 80 to 100% for the different domains (highest for CH4 and lowest for CH2). Sturgeon CH sequences are most closely related to those of holostean fish. There are three distinct VH families, VHI grouping with mammalian clan III, VHII grouping with the teleost clan, and VHIII grouping with the archaic clan. The variability of the CDR 3 region is substantial, and we identified a number of conserved motifs in the D segment. Further, we deduced that there are at least nine different JH segments in the locus, contributing to the antibody repertoire of the sturgeon. The variable segments of the three families can be associated with any of the D or JH segments in the rearrangement. Sturgeon, in addition to the random rearrangement of VH, D, and JH segments, have exonuclease activity, and an introduction of N and probably P nucleotides at the site of rearrangement. Although there exists a large body of knowledge on the ecology, physiology, and nutrition of great sturgeon, time–place learning has thus far not been examined in this species and other sturgeons. The aim of the present study is to evaluate whether individual or grouped juvenile great sturgeons are able to associate time and place of food delivery when examined under light and dark conditions. During a 30-day period, food was made available to the sturgeons twice a day or twice a night, in the first time in one side of the tank and in the second time in the opposite side of the tank. Food was withheld on test days to assess time–place learning by the fish. The results of the present study indicate that, at both the group and individual levels, great sturgeons are not able to clearly demonstrate time–place learning under the conditions examined.  相似文献

The oxidation of the dipivaloyl derivative to tris(dipivaloyl)technetium(IV) hexafluorophosphate was shown to take place readily. Boron is an essential nutrient for plants, but it is toxic in excess. Transgenic rice plants expressing an Arabidopsis thaliana borate efflux transporter gene, AtBOR4, at a low level exhibited increased tolerance to excess boron. Those lines with high levels of expression exhibited reduced growth. These findings suggest a potential of the borate transporter BOR4 for the generation of high-boron tolerant rice.  相似文献

Sturgeon (Acipenser baerii and A. gueldenstaedtii) specimens, native to the northern hemisphere, were reported in different environments of the La Plata Basin (South America). The objectives of this study were to provide the first insights into the natal origin and habitat use of these sturgeon species in the La Plata Basin through geochemical analysis (87Sr/86Sr) of fin spines and to review historical catch reports. Spine core-to-edge 87Sr/86Sr ratios were measured by LA-MC-ICPMS. A Quadratic Discriminant Analysis model based on water 87Sr/86Sr baseline of the La Plata Basin was run to infer the natal origin. The isotopic profiles indicate a common origin, compatible with the location of the fish farms in the Uruguay Basin. The A. baerii isotopic time series suggested that the fish moved towards the Paraná Basin months before capture, while A. gueldenstaedtii would have survived a longer time (perhaps years). Seventeen reports of sturgeons were recorded and preserved in museum collections between 1998 and 2020. Sturgeons were collected from Río de la Plata Estuary, Paraná and Uruguay basins and Atlantic coastal lagoons. It is recommended to closely monitor sturgeon catches, paying special attention to the appearance of specimens of reproductive age, in order to generate management and management plans if necessary.  相似文献

The equimolar reaction of a β-diketiminate lithium salt LLi(OEt2) [L = HC(CMeNAr)2; Ar = 2,6-iPr2C6H3] with either GeBr2 or SnBr2 in diethyl ether affords the synthetically useful monomeric β-diketiminate-element halides LGeBr (1) and LSnBr (2), respectively. An α-carbonic anhydrase (CA, EC 4.2.1.1) was purified and characterized kinetically from erythrocytes of the sturgeon Acipenser gueldenstaedti, an endangered species. The sturgeon enzyme (AgCA) showed kinetic parameters for the CO(2) hydration reaction comparable with those of the human erythrocytes enzyme hCA II, being a highly active enzyme, whereas its esterase activity with 4-nitrophenyl acetate as substrate was lower. Sulphonamide inhibitors (acetazolamide, sulphanilamide) strongly inhibited AgCA, whereas metal ions (Ag(+), Zn(2+), Cu(2+) and Co(2+)) were weak, millimolar inhibitors. Several widely used pesticides (2,4-dichlorophenol, dithiocarbamates, parathion and carbaryl) were also assayed as inhibitors of this enzyme. The dithiocarbamates were low micromolar AgCA inhibitors (IC(50) of 16-18 μM), whereas the other pesticides inhibited the enzyme with IC(50)s in the range of 102-398 μM. The wide use of dithiocarbamate pesticides may be one of the factors enhancing the vulnerability of this sturgeon species to pollutants.  相似文献

The effect of body size on various hematological variables was examined in juvenile shortnose sturgeon (Acipenser brevirostrum) ranging in mass from 38 to 730 g. The blood was examined for differences in plasma ionic composition (Na+, K+, Cl?), blood oxygen carrying capacities (hemoglobin, hematocrit), and plasma metabolite concentrations (lactate, glucose), before and following a standard 5‐min chasing stress. All measured resting hematological variables were size independent in shortnose sturgeon. After exercise, levels of plasma lactate, potassium, and hemoglobin increased in all fish. Only post‐exercise levels of chloride and hemoglobin changed in a size‐dependent manner; however, the relationships were weak. The general lack of a relationship between body size and hematological variables might reflect the narrow range of fish sizes used in the present study. From a practical perspective, the results suggest that when examining the hematological stress response in juvenile shortnose sturgeon, a range of fish sizes could be used. This is important considering the variability in the growth rates of juvenile shortnose sturgeon under laboratory conditions.  相似文献

(±)-Licarin A (1) was obtained by oxidative coupling, and its enantiomers, (?)-licarin A (2) and (+)-licarin A (3), were resolved by chiral HPLC. Schistosomicidal and trypanocidal activities of these compounds were evaluated in vitro against Schistosoma mansoni adult worms and trypomastigote forms of Trypanosoma cruzi. The racemic mixture (1) displayed significant schistosomicidal activity with an LC50 value of 53.57 μM and moderate trypanocidal activity with an IC50 value of 127.17 μM. On the other hand, the (?)-enantiomer (2), displaying a LC50 value of 91.71 μM, was more active against S. mansoni than the (+)-enantiomer (3), which did not show activity. For the trypanocidal assay, enantiomer 2 showed more significant activity (IC50 of 23.46 μM) than enantiomer 3, which showed an IC50 value of 87.73 μM. Therefore, these results suggest that (±)-licarin A (1) and (?)-licarin A (2) are promising compounds that could be used for the development of schistosomicidal and trypanocidal agents.  相似文献
