A modified spectrophotometric method was developed to estimate ioxynil and bromoxynil residues. The method when compared with a 14C-tracer method was less sensitive but allowed rapid and accurate estimation of the herbicides. A clay loam soil with high organic matter content, which degraded ioxynil completely to CO2, also degraded bromoxynil completely. Bromoxynil degradation proceeded at a faster rate than that of ioxynil. The half-life of degradation was estimated to be 7 days for bromoxynil and 9-10 days for ioxynil. However, soil microorganisms which degraded ioxynil either completely to CO2 or partially did not seem to completely degrade bromoxynil. Degradation products from bromoxynil were detected on thin-layer chromatograms of extracts from pure cultures containing an exogenous carbon source. Complete degradation of bromoxynil and ioxynil in soil could be due to the action of different microorganisms.  相似文献

Predation on slugs, Arion lusitanicus (Mabille) and Deroceras reticulatum (Müller), and their eggs by the carabid beetles Pterostichus melanarius (Illiger) and Poecilus cupreus (L.) was investigated in the laboratory. Slugs of different size and slug eggs were offered to the beetles in petri dishes with and without several alternative prey. Pterostichus melanarius destroyed eggs of D. reticulatum and A. lusitanicus, with a clear preference for D. reticulatum eggs. The availability of some alternative prey types adversely affected feeding on D. reticulatum eggs by P. cupreus and feeding on A. lusitanicus eggs by P. melanarius. Yet consumption of D. reticulatum eggs by P. melanarius was not significantly influenced by any alternative prey. Only P. melanarius killed small D. reticulatum in the presence of alternative prey. This suggests that P. melanarius and P. cupreus may have the potential to reduce slug populations in the field by destroying slug eggs and, in the case of P. melanarius, killing freshly hatched slugs.  相似文献

Desulfitobacterium chlororespirans has been shown to grow by coupling the oxidation of lactate to the metabolic reductive dehalogenation of ortho chlorines on polysubstituted phenols. Here, we examine the ability of D. chlororespirans to debrominate and deiodinate the polysubstituted herbicides bromoxynil (3,5-dibromo-4-hydroxybenzonitrile), ioxynil (3,5-diiodo-4-hydroxybenzonitrile), and the bromoxynil metabolite 3,5-dibromo-4-hydroxybenzoate (DBHB). Stoichiometric debromination of bromoxynil to 4-cyanophenol and DBHB to 4-hydroxybenzoate occurred. Further, bromoxynil (35 to 75 μM) and DBHB (250 to 260 μM) were used as electron acceptors for growth. Doubling times for growth (means ± standard deviations for triplicate cultures) on bromoxynil (18.4 ± 5.2 h) and DBHB (11.9 ± 1.4 h), determined by rate of [14C]lactate uptake into biomass, were similar to those previously reported for this microorganism during growth on pyruvate (15.4 h). In contrast, ioxynil was not deiodinated when added alone or when added with bromoxynil; however, ioxynil dehalogenation, with stoichiometric conversion to 4-cyanophenol, was observed when the culture was amended with 3-chloro-4-hydroxybenzoate (a previously reported electron acceptor). To our knowledge, this is the first direct report of deiodination by a bacterium in the Desulfitobacterium genus and the first report of an anaerobic pure culture with the ability to transform bromoxynil or ioxynil. This research provides valuable insights into the substrate range of D. chlororespirans.  相似文献

The probing behaviour of Rhopalosiphum padi (L.) and Sitobion avenae (F.) and the feeding behaviour of several slug species, (Deroceras reticulatum (Müller), Arion distinctus Mabille, Agriolimax caruanae Pollonera, Maximus sp.) were assessed on seedlings of winter barley (Hordeum marinum) treated with different concentrations of azadirachtin. Settling behaviour of both aphid species was strongly biased towards the untreated seedlings or those treated with low concentrations of azadirachtin. Concentrations of <500 ppm were effective with topical application and probing activity was reduced for at least 4 days after application. Systemic activity of azadirachtin against cereal aphids was also demonstrated. Feeding behaviour of the slug species, as seen by the amount of leaf eaten compared to the controls, was not affected by the presence of azadirachtin at those concentrations which deterred aphids from feeding. The relevance of these results to crop protection is discussed.  相似文献

The aim of this work was to determine the ability of rhodococci to transform 3,5-dichloro-4-hydroxybenzonitrile (chloroxynil), 3,5-dibromo-4-hydroxybenzonitrile (bromoxynil), 3,5-diiodo-4-hydroxybenzonitrile (ioxynil) and 2,6-dichlorobenzonitrile (dichlobenil); to identify the products and determine their acute toxicities. Rhodococcus erythropolis A4 and Rhodococcus rhodochrous PA-34 converted benzonitrile herbicides into amides, but only the former strain was able to hydrolyze 2,6-dichlorobenzamide into 2,6-dichlorobenzoic acid, and produced also more of the carboxylic acids from the other herbicides compared to strain PA-34. Transformation of nitriles into amides decreased acute toxicities for chloroxynil and dichlobenil, but increased them for bromoxynil and ioxynil. The amides inhibited root growth in Lactuca sativa less than the nitriles but more than the acids. The conversion of the nitrile group may be the first step in the mineralization of benzonitrile herbicides but cannot be itself considered to be a detoxification.  相似文献

The soil actinobacteria Rhodococcus rhodochrous PA-34, Rhodococcus sp. NDB 1165 and Nocardia globerula NHB-2 grown in the presence of isobutyronitrile exhibited nitrilase activities towards benzonitrile (approx. 1.1–1.9 U mg?1 dry cell weight). The resting cell suspensions eliminated benzonitrile and the benzonitrile analogues chloroxynil (3,5-dichloro-4-hydroxybenzonitrile), bromoxynil (3,5-dibromo-4-hydroxybenzonitrile) and ioxynil (3,5-diiodo-4-hydroxybenzonitrile) (0.5 mM each) from reaction mixtures at 30°C and pH 8.0. The products were isolated and identified as the corresponding substituted benzoic acids. The reaction rates decreased in the order benzonitrile ? chloroxynil > bromoxynil > ioxynil in all strains. Depending on the strain, 92–100, 70–90 and 30–51% of chloroxynil, bromoxynil and ioxynil, respectively, was hydrolyzed after 5 h. After a 20-h incubation, almost full conversion of chloroxynil and bromoxynil was observed in all strains, while only about 60% of the added ioxynil was converted into carboxylic acid. The product of ioxynil was not metabolized any further, and those of the other two herbicides very slowly. None of the nitrilase-producing strains hydrolyzed dichlobenil (2,6-dichlorobenzonitrile). 3,5-Dibromo-4-hydroxybenzoic acid exhibited less inhibitory effect than bromoxynil both on luminescent bacteria and germinating seeds of Lactuca sativa. 3,5-Diiodo-4-hydroxybenzoic acid only exhibited lower toxicity than ioxynil in the latter test.  相似文献

The Harpalini species Harpalus rufipes, as many other generalist carabids, consume a wide variety of prey and it is known to feed on pest slugs such as the grey field slug Deroceras reticulatum, but quantitative data about the predatory activity of H. rufipes on slugs are very scarce. In laboratory experiments, we assessed the capability of male H. rufipes to kill eggs and different‐sized slugs of the pest species D. reticulatum in either the absence or the presence of alternative live prey (dipteran larvae and aphids). We also investigated the preference of H. rufipes for eggs and hatchlings of D. reticulatum in a choice experiment. H. rufipes killed considerable amounts of eggs and small juveniles (≤5.0 mg) of D. reticulatum, both in no‐choice and in choice situations. Medium‐sized juvenile slugs (10–20 mg) were seldom killed only in no‐choice situations, and no large juveniles (50–60 mg) were killed. Dipteran larvae and aphids were killed also in no‐choice and in choice situations. The type of alternative prey presented with slug eggs affected the survival of the eggs to H. rufipes predation. The presence of dipteran larvae as alternative prey did not affect the survival of juvenile slugs. When eggs and small juvenile slugs were offered together, the survivals of both items were similar. The obtained results under laboratory conditions suggest that the generalist predator H. rufipes might realise an important contribution to the control of pest slugs.  相似文献

Effects of 67 herbicides — several of which were mixtures — and plant growth regulators on adult females of the rove beetle,Aleochara bilineata, were investigated in the laboratory. The pesticides were tested in concentrations equivalent to the highest recommended dosages for practical use. Mortality, egg production and hatch of the eggs were measured. Most herbicides had no serious effect on any of the parameters recorded. Among the urea herbicides, however, several showed adverse effects on egg production and/or hatch of the eggs laid. The strongest effect was exerted by methabenzthiazuron that impeded hatch of the eggs completely. Bromoxynil, pyridate and haloxyfod reduced survival, egg production and/or egg hatch to some degree, while carbaryl, which is also used as a plant growth regulator, killed all the beetles immediately. The usefulness of dose-response-studies and the importance of measuring sublethal effects are stressed, and the choice of herbicides showing no toxic effects is recommended.
Résumé Des expériences ont été faites au laboratoire pour tester les effets de 67 herbicides — dont plusieurs étaient des mélanges — et régulateurs de croissance des plantes sur les femelles adultes d'Aleochara bilineata. Les pesticides ont été testés à des concentrations équivalant aux dosages les plus élevés recommandés pour l'usage agricole. La mortalité, la production et l'éclosion des oeufs ont été mesurés. La plupart des herbicides n'ont pas d'effet important sur aucun des paramètres retenus. Parmi les herbicides à base d'urée cependant, plusieurs montrent des effets négatifs sur la production d'oeufs et/ou l'éclosion des oeufs. L'effet le plus fort a été provoqué par le métabenzthiazuron qui empêchait complètement l'éclosion des oeufs. Le bromoxynil, le pyridate et l'haloxyfop réduisaient la survie, la production d'œufs et/ou, jusqu'à un certain point, l'éclosion des œufs. Le carbaryl par contre, qui est aussi employé comme régulateur de croissance des plantes, tuait immédiatement tous les staphylins. L'utilité des études dose-réponse et l'importance de mesurer les effets sublétaux sont soulignés; le choix des herbicides ne montrant pas d'effet toxiques est recommandé.

Summary Samples of a sandy loam soil were supplied with normal, 10-fold and 100-fold rates of ioxynil, dalapon, mecoprop, dichlorprop, MCPA + dichlorprop, picloram, and amitrole-T and incubated at 29°C at 65 per cent of the waterholding capacity. Treated soil samples were compared with untreated samples. Samples supplied with (NH4)2SO4 and herbicides were used to investigate the effect of the herbicides on the rate of nitrification and the production of nitrite. In several cases higher numbers of bacteria were found for a longer or shorter period in soil treated with herbicides. There was some evidence that certain groups of bacteria had adapted to ioxynil in a soil sample supplied with the 100-fold rate of this chemical. After 2 or 4 weeks lower numbers ofAzotobacter chroococcum were found at the normal rate of ioxynil, dalapon, mecoprop, and dichlorprop. At the 100-fold rate of application the numbers of Azotobacter were unfavourably affected by all herbicides. The production of mineral nitrogen was hardly affected by the normal and 10-fold rates of application. In the first week the rate of nitrification was slightly depressed in soil samples treated with the normal rates of dichlorprop and amitrole-T and with the 10-fold rates of dalapon, mecoprop, and MCPA + dichlorprop. Strong inhibition of the nitrification for at least 7 weeks was shown by the 10-fold rate of amitrole-T. At the 100-fold rate all herbicides, with the exception of picloram, depressed the rate of nitrification for a longer or shorter period. During the second week a very small increase of nitrite was found in the samples treated with the normal and 10-fold rates of dalapon, mecoprop, dichlorprop, and amitrole-T. A small increase of nitrite was noted for 26 weeks in samples treated with the 100-fold rates of amitrole-T. A highly significant depression of CO2 evolution was found in the first week in samples treated with the normal rates of ioxynil, dalapon, mecroprop, dichlorprop, and amitrole-T, also in samples treated with the 10-fold rates of dalapon, mecoprop, dichlorprop, MCPA + dichlorprop, picloram, and amitrole-T. A highly significant depression of CO2 production was found after 8 weeks in all the samples treated with herbicides at the 100-fold rate with the exception of the sample treated with picloram. The decomposition of the herbicides was studied in soil samples treated with the 100-fold rates of herbicides. Only traces of dalapon and mecoprop were found after 9 months, but 7.2% ioxynil, 29.8% dichlorprop, 39% (MCPA + dichlorprop), 52.1% picloram and 52.2% amitrole-T were still present in active form.  相似文献

Harpalus rufipes and Poecilus cupreus are two widespread polyphagous carabids which are known to destroy eggs of the pest slug Deroceras reticulatum in the laboratory. To examine the effect of temperature on the predation of the eggs of D. reticulatum by H. rufipes and P. cupreus, a laboratory experiment with different temperatures and a semi‐field experiment including simulated warming were performed. In both experiments, H. rufipes killed more eggs than P. cupreus, and the predatory activity of the former increased significantly with increasing temperature. To our knowledge, this is the first study on predatory activity of polyphagous carabids on the eggs of a pest slug performed under a climate warming scenario. Results suggest that biological pest control performed by polyphagous carabids such as H. rufipes upon pest slugs may be enhanced under predicted climate warming conditions.  相似文献

The Agrobacterium radiobacter 8/4 strain capable of degradation of bromoxynil, ioxynil and dichlobenil, arylnitrile herbicides was isolated from soil and cell entrapment was investigated. Three immobilization techniques was used: Caalginate, Ca-pectate and -carrageenan technique, and resting cells. Nilaparvata lugens and Sogatella furcifera are two primary planthoppers on rice throughout Asian countries and areas. Neonicotinoid insecticides, such as imidacloprid (IMI), have been extensively used to control rice planthoppers and IMI resistance consequently occurred with an important mechanism from the over‐expression of P450 genes. The induction of P450 genes by IMI may increase the ability to metabolize this insecticide in planthoppers and increase the resistance risk. In this study, the induction of P450 genes was compared in S. furcifera treated with IMI and nitromethyleneimidazole (NMI), in two planthopper species by IMI lethal dose that kills 85% of the population (LD85), and in N. lugens among three IMI doses (LD15, LD50 and LD85). When IMI and NMI at the LD85 dose were applied to S. furcifera, the expression changes in most P450 genes were similar, including the up‐regulation of nine genes and down‐regulation of three genes. In terms of the expression changes in 12 homologous P450 genes between N. lugens and S. furcifera treated with IMI at the LD85 dose, 10 genes had very similar patterns, such as up‐regulation in seven genes, down‐regulation in one gene and no significant changes in two genes. When three different IMI doses were applied to N. lugens, the changes in P450 gene expression were much different, such as up‐regulation in four genes at all doses and dose‐dependent regulation of the other nine genes. For example, CYP6AY1 could be induced by all IMI doses, while CYP6ER1 was only up‐regulated by the LD50 dose, although both genes were reported important in IMI resistance. In conclusion, P450 genes in two planthopper species showed similar regulation patterns in responding to IMI, and the two neonicotinoid insecticides had similar effects on P450 gene expression, although the regulation was often dose‐dependent.  相似文献

Preliminary screening of extracts of the leaves and stems of four Turraea plant species (Meliaceae) on second instar larvae of Tuta absoluta (Meyrick) (Lepidoptera: Gelechiidae) showed that the methanolic extract of Turraea abyssinica leaves possess good toxic potential with LD50 of 270.7 ppm. Fractionation of this extract led to isolation of a new limonoid derivative, 12α‐diacetoxywalsuranolide (1) and three other known limonoids [1α,7α,12α‐triacetoxy‐4α‐carbomethoxy‐11β‐hydroxy‐14β,15β‐epoxyhavanensin (2), 11‐epi‐21‐hydroxytoonacilide (3), 11β,12α‐diacetoxycedrelone (4)]. The structures of the compounds were established by IR, UV, mass spectrometry and 1D/2D NMR analyses, and in the case of the known compounds, also by comparison with reported data. All the isolates were tested for their larvicidal activities at different dose range against second instar larvae of T. absoluta. They were found to be more active (with LD50 < 7.0 ppm) compared to the reference compound azadirachtin (LD50 value of 7.8 ppm).  相似文献

The nematode Phasmarhabditis hermaphrodita is a commercially available biocontrol agent against slugs. This product is especially interesting for use in organic farming, where products containing metaldehyde or carbamates cannot be used for controlling pest slugs. We investigated the potential of P. hermaphrodita for the control of the pest slugs Deroceras reticulatum and Arion lusitanicus. These two species are the most harmful slug pests in Switzerland. At different times of the year, we collected slug specimens of different weight and assessed their susceptibility to P. hermaphrodita in the laboratory. Batches of five slugs were subjected to five different doses of nematodes plus an untreated control and replicated three times. During six weeks, feeding and survival of the slugs were recorded. D. reticulatum was strongly affected by increasing nematode doses, irrespective of the slugs' body weight. In small specimens of A. lusitanicus, feeding and survival were strongly affected by the nematodes, while larger specimens remained almost unaffected. Because A. lusitanicus has an asynchronous development in Switzerland, it seems difficult to control the entire population with a single nematode application. To what extent nematodes will be used in practice for slug control depends on their effectivity against the pest slugs of major importance, on the longevity of the molluscicidal effect and on the price of nematodes.  相似文献

1 Slugs are important pests in many agricultural crops and potential biological control agents are being studied as an alternative to molluscicides. Carabid beetles may be able to reduce slug populations, but their role as control agents may be influenced by the presence of alternative prey. 2 Attacks on the pest slug Deroceras reticulatum (Müller) by the carabid beetles Pterostichus madidus (Fabricius) and Nebria brevicollis (Fabricius) were investigated in the presence of alternative prey (earthworms and Calliphora fly larvae). Consumption of slug eggs and aphids was also investigated. 3 All five prey types were consumed to varying degrees during the experiments. Both beetle species showed a significant preference for Calliphora larvae over slugs. Pterostichus madidus showed a significant preference for earthworms over slugs. No preference was shown between earthworms or Calliphora larvae by P. madidus females or N. brevicollis. However, P. madidus males showed a significant preference for Calliphora larvae over worms. Pterostichus madidus showed no preference between slug eggs and aphids; N. brevicollis showed a significant preference for aphids over slug eggs. 4 The results from this study indicate that generalist beetles will often attack other prey in preferences to adult slugs. Slugs may not be preferred because of their mucus. Other prey items occur frequently in arable soils and generalist carabids may ignore slugs altogether and may only feed on them when slug density is high or other prey are unavailable.  相似文献

We examined the effects of UVB radiation on hatching success of eggs, survival of various naupliar and copepodite stages, and feeding and egg production of adult females of the brackish-water copepod, Sinocalanus tenellus, by exposure to varying doses of UVB irradiance in the laboratory. Artificial UVB radiation resulted in an increased mortality of eggs, nauplii and copepodites with increasing UVB doses. UVB induced damage was stage-specific with eggs being most susceptible (LD50= 4.1 kJ m–2 ) and adult females being least susceptible (LD50= 16.7 kJ m–2). Effects on feeding and egg production of adult females were significantly evident at UVB doses higher than 11.0 kJ m–2 and 7.0 kJ m–2, respectively. We also examined the photorepair response of eggs and various developmental stages in simultaneous irradiation of UVB and enhanced PAR. With enhanced PAR there was a considerable recovery against UVB damage, being higher for younger animals than older ones. In nature, however, solar UVB radiation may rarely cause appreciable damage to S. tenellus population due to optically high attenuation properties of their habitat waters.  相似文献

Bacillus thuringiensis var. kurstaki (Berliner) (Bt) has been suggested as a biological control agent for Tuta absoluta (Meyrick). The objective of this study was to determine the interaction between abamectin, azadirachtin, indoxacarb, chlorantraniliprole, dichlorvos and metaflumizone with Bt. Effect of recommended doses of the chemical insecticides on colonisation of Bt was also investigated in culture medium. Except for metaflumizone, none of the chemicals tested reduced the colonisation of Bt compared with control. Interaction between Bt and the chemical insecticides on 2nd-instar larvae was also assessed. In interaction tests, Bt was applied at LC50 level, 0, 12, 24 or 36 h after treating the larvae with LC10 or LC25 of the chemical insecticides. An antagonistic effect was observed in all treatments where Bt was applied immediately after the chemical insecticide. Also, antagonism was observed when treatment with Bt was done 12 h after azadirachtin and metaflumizone applications. Applying Bt 12 and 24 h after treatment with LC25 of chlorantraniliprole, dichlorvos and abamectin resulted in synergism. But, synergism with LC10 of dichlorvos and abamectin was observed only after 12 h. Additive effect was observed in the rest of the time and concentration combinations. Based on the results obtained, simultaneous use of the chemical insecticides tested and Bt is not recommended for T. absoluta control; and an appropriate time interval should be taken into consideration accordingly.  相似文献

Microsatellites were developed for two pest slug species: self‐fertilizing Arion intermedius and outcrossing Deroceras reticulatum. Six microsatellites from each species were tested on individuals collected from within and between arable fields. The 39 individuals analysed per species had 3–9 and 7–26 alleles per microsatellite for A. intermedius and D. reticulatum, respectively. Gene diversity, [1 ? Σpi2] , ranged from 0.19 to 0.75 and 0.74 to 0.95, respectively.  相似文献
