Summary The afferent pathways to the nucleus basalis prosencephali of the pigeon were studied by use of the horseradish peroxidase (HRP) technique. It was confirmed that this nucleus receives a direct pathway from the nucleus sensorius principalis nervi trigemini and that, as in the starling, it receives a direct input from the nucleus lemnisci lateralis, pars ventralis, an auditory relay. Totally novel is the finding that the nucleus basalis prosencephali is the target of a direct pathway originating in the medullary nucleus vestibularis superior. All three pathways bypass the thalamus. From within the telencephalon the nucleus basalis prosencephali also receives fibres from the tuberculum olfactorium and the peri-ectostriatal belt, suggestive of olfactory and visual input. Marked cell bodies were also found in the neostriatum frontolaterale. It is assumed that these arose from HRP uptake by axons of the tractus fronto-archistriatalis that course through the nucleus basalis prosencephali to the anterodorsal archistriatum. Marked fibres and bouton-like formations were observed in the latter structure. The afferents to the nucleus basalis prosencephali are discussed in conjunction with the probable role of the nucleus as a sensorimotor coordinator of the pecking/feeding behaviour of the pigeon.  相似文献

After microinjections of horseradish peroxidase into the central tegmental area of the midbrain and centrum medianum thalami in cats, labeled neurons were found in the nucleus of the tractus solitarius, gracile and cuneate nuclei, spinal nuclei of the trigeminal nerve, the external nucleus and nucleus of the brachium of the inferior colliculus, the medial pretectal region, nucleus of the posterior commissure and stratum intermediale of the superior colliculus, and reticular structures of the medulla and pons. Comparison of the location of the sources of ascending afferent projections in the central tegmental area of the midbrain and centrum medianum thalami showed that the reticular formation receives mainly visceral projections through the nucleus of the tractus solitarius, whereas the centrum medianum thalami is innervated mainly by the system of sensory somatic nuclei.I. Seven dogs were subjected 30 min to ligation of the thoracic aorta and were then kept alive 6-7 days after the ligature had been removed. Their spinal cord and brain stem were treated by the Nauta-Gygax method and the extent and appearance of preterminal and terminal degeneration of certain ascending spinal systems were analysed. In the medulla oblongata region, marked degenerating fibres from the lower thoracic and lumbosacral cord segments were found in the nucleus tractus spinalis nervi trigemini. Preterminal and terminal degenerating fibres were visualized in the caudal part of the trigeminal nuclear complex. Comparison with the literature showed these to be previously unknown projections with a relationship to the nucleus tractus spinalis nervi trigemini.  相似文献

The existence of cholecystokinin-8-like immunoreactive (CCKI) pathway from supramammillary region (SUM) to the nucleus anterior ventralis thalami (AVT) was demonstrated in this study by means of experimental immunohistochemical manipulations in very young rats, because destruction of unilateral SUM, which contains CCKI neurons, resulted in a disappearance of CCKI fibers in the ipsilateral AVT.  相似文献

A model of the electrophysiological properties of rodent nucleus reticularis thalami (NRT) neurons of the dorsal lateral thalamus was developed using Hodgkin-Huxley style equations. The model incorporated voltage-dependent rate constants and kinetics obtained from recent voltage-clamp experiments in vitro. The intrinsic electroresponsivity of the model cell was found to be similar to several empirical observations. Three distinct modes of oscillatory activity were identified: 1) a pattern of slow rhythmic burst firing (0.5-7 Hz) usually associated with membrane potentials negative to approximately -70 mV which resulted from the interplay of ITs and IK(Ca); 2) at membrane potentials from approximately -69 to -62 mV, rhythmic burst firing in the spindle frequency range (7-12 Hz) developed and was immediately followed by a tonic tail of single spike firing after several bursts. The initial bursting rhythm resulted from the interaction of ITs and IK(Ca), with a slow after-depolarization due to ICAN which mediated the later tonic firing; 3) with further depolarization of the membrane potential positive to approximately -61 mV, sustained tonic firing appeared in the 10-200-Hz frequency range depending on the amplitude of the injected current. The frequency of this firing was also dependent on the maximum conductance of the leak current, IK(leak), and an interaction between the fast currents involved in generating action potentials, INa(fast) and IK(DR), and the persistent Na+ current, INa(P). Transitions between different firing modes were identified and studied parametrically.  相似文献

Vestibular nucleus neurons projecting to the cat bulbar lateral reticular nucleus were revealed using horseradish peroxidase axonal transport techniques. Neurons giving rise to such projections — relatively few in number — were confined to homolateral locations and nearly all occurred within Deiter's nucleus. Large as well as small and medium-sized neurons of the vestibular nucleus projected to the lateral reticular nucleus. The part played by the vestibuloreticular projections under review in the control of motor activity is discussed.Academy of Sciences of the Ukrainian SSR, Kiev. Properties of neurons of the trigeminal nucleus caudalis, with projections into the facial nucleus, were investigated in cats by a microelectrode technique. These neurons were found to be located mainly in the ventral parts of the trigeminal nucleus caudalis and in the adjacent lateral reticular formation. Monosynaptic and polysynaptic activation of efferent neurons of the trigeminal nucleus caudalis was found in response to pyramidal impulsation. Repeated discharges were recorded in the test neurons in response to stimulation of their axons, to direct stimulation of the trigeminal nucleus caudalis, and also to stimulation of the pyramidal tract and facial nerve. The synaptic mechanisms of regulation of motoneuron activity in the facial nerve nucleus are discussed.L. A. Orbeli Institute of Physiology, Academy of Sciences of the Armenian SSR, Erevan. Somatotopic arrangements of cells and fibers within the dorsal columns and the dorsal column nuclei have been mapped most precisely by electrophysiological recording methods. This study uses an anatomical approach to evaluate the precision of individual digital nerve projections to the cuneate nucleus (CN) in young macaque monkeys. Digital nerves supplying about one-half the palmar skin of a digit were surgically exposed, cut, and treated with wheatgerm agglutinin conjugated to horseradish peroxidase (WGA:HRP) on 3 successive days. After 2 additional days, animals were killed and medullas were recovered for study of serial sections reacted to display axons labeled by transganglionic transport of label. Labeled afferent fibers from each digit were found within a circumscribed columnar zone extending through the caudal CN and rostrally throughout the pars rotunda of CN. At caudal levels, diffuse projections reach the dorsal edge of the CN; more rostrally, they shift into deeper parts of the nucleus and are heaviest along its ventral and medial edges at levels near the obex. Fibers from the thumb (digit 1) project lateral (and ventral) to those from digit 2, and projections from digit 3 are medial to those from 2. Each digital projection field is closely adjacent to that from the adjacent digit. Few fibers extend to the rostral CN. Projection fields of homologous digits are quite symmetrical on the two sides. Although there do seem to be some differences in the somatotopic arrangement of digital input in macaques compared to other nonprimate mammals studied previously, these observations (precisely organized, circumscribed fields for separate digits) define a system well designed for transmission of data encoding spatial relationships.  相似文献

The projections of the nucleus locus coeruleus (LC) were reconstructed from serial section autoradiographic analysis. Microinjections of H3 proline into LC permitted labelling of the terminal arborizations through the somatofugal transport of labelled macromolecules. The pathways could be traced in toto from their origin in the LC to their terminal regions. These included the limbic cortex, hippocampus, neocortex, amygdala, cerebellar cortex, and various brainstem nuclei.  相似文献

The present study was carried out to analyze the topography of bilateral spinal projections to the lateral reticular nucleus (LRN). We used retrograde transport of fluorescent tracers Fast Blue and Diamidino Yellow to identify spinal neurons projecting to the ipsilateral and/or contralateral LRN, as well as orthograde transport of Phaseolus vulgaris leucoagglutinin to identify the LRN areas where spinoreticular axons terminate. Orthograde labeling confirmed that bilateral spinoreticular projections coming from cervical and upper-thoracic segments terminate in the magnocellular division of LRN, while those coming from the lower-thoracic, lumbar and sacral segments end in the parvocellular division of the nucleus; only a sparse spinal input has been observed in the subtrigeminal division of LRN. Retrograde labeling showed that labeled neurons were present at all spinal levels and in particular large numbers in the cervical and lumbar enlargements. Retrogradely single-labeled cells were located, with contralateral predominance, in all segments of the spinal cord, within laminae IV, V, VI, VIII, and X, whereas in laminae III and VII labeled neurons were mainly observed ipsilaterally. Furthermore, a small fraction of double-labeled cells (7.4%) was observed throughout the spinal cord, mainly in laminae III, IV, VII and VIII.  相似文献

In the rat, somatostatin immunoreactivity was identified in neurons of the central nucleus of the amygdala that were retrogradely labeled by injection of fluorescent dyes into the nucleus tractus solitarius and dorsal motor nucleus of the vagus nerve. The double-labeled neurons are located in the medial subdivision of the central nucleus and appear to comprise less than one fifth of the descending pathway. These results suggest that somatostatin may act as a neurotransmitter in a pathway which mediates cardiovascular and other autonomic responses to fear-producing and other emotional stimuli.  相似文献

Central projections of the lagena were studied in the pigeon using transport of biotinylated dextran amine (BDA) that was locally applied to the lagenar epithelium through the opened cochlear canal. Descending (dorsocaudal part) and superior (middle part) vestibular nuclei were the main rhombencephalon structures with the maximum density of labeled fibers and terminals. Lesser numbers of labeled fibers were observed in the ventral part of the lateral vestibular nucleus and also in the medial vestibular nucleus; single labeled fibers were found in the cochlear nuclei. In the cases where BDA diffused not only in the lagena but also on the basilar papilla after application of the marker to the cochlear canal, considerable numbers of labeled fibers were observed in the cochlear nuclei; apart from this, the pattern of distribution of labeled fibers in the vestibular nuclei did not differ in general from that described above (in the case of a sufficiently local application of BDA only to the lagena). Efferent lagenar neurons were localized ventrally with respect to the vestibular nuclei, in particular in the nucl. reticularis pontis caudalis. Summary The fate of ascending projections of thoracic interneurons in the metamorphosing brain of Tenebrio molitor is described. Persistent brain neurons were identified and their fate is described during metamorphosis. The projection sites of ascending elements are invariable throughout metamorphosis both in quantitative and in qualitative terms. Some of these ascending neurons are serotonin-immunoreactive and this set of neurons maintains a constant projection site within the metamorphosing brain. The alterations in the projection sites of these and other ascending neurons in the ventral nerve cord were analysed experimentally. The central projection sites of these persistent ascending neurons are not important for the maintenance of their nerve cord projections throughout metamorphosis. Experimental deletion of ascending neurons which project into the suboesophageal ganglion varies the shape of persistent central neurons.  相似文献

The biosynthesis of glucagon was studied in microdissected pigeon pancreatic, islets. [3H]-Tryotophan and [3H]leucine were incorporated into big and little glucagon. No precursor-product relationship was evident between big and little glucagon after radioactive pulsechase and immunoreactive chase incubations. Radioactive and immunoreactive little glucagon and immunoreactive big glucagon were actively secreted and the synthesis of both glucagons was inhibited by high concentrations of glucose. [3H]Tryptophan and [3H]leucine were incorporated into an islet protein of about 20000mol.wt. Gel filtration of extracts of turkey pancreas revealed the presence of an immunoreactive peak of mol.wt. approx. 20000. This glucagon-immunoreactive component was also present in dog and ox pancreas and was stable to chaotropic agents and elution at various pH values. A similar-sized glucagon-immunoreactive species was present in the dog circulation. These results are discussed in the light of the presently accepted mechanisms of glucagon biosynthesis.  相似文献
