The present study is aimed at determining some haematological and biochemical parameters in the wild Indian bonnet monkeys as also the microscopic and ultrastructural characteristics of their pancreatic islets. Adult wild Indian bonnet monkeys (Macaca radiata radiata) of both sexes weighing between 2.5 and 4 kg were used in these experiments. Their platelet, reticulocyte and total leukocyte counts and the blood concentrations of hemoglobin and plasma proteins and the serum concentrations of aspartate amino transferase, alanine amino transferase and calcium are similar to the values reported for M. mulatta. Plasma glucose is lower when compared with reported values of M. mulatta and M. fascicularis. Insulin levels are comparable with those of M. mulatta and M. nigra. Histology of islets is similar to that of humans. Ovoid cell collections of islet cells are scattered throughout the pancreas. Ultrastructure of A, B and D cells is similar to humans. These findings suggest that this relatively underutilized macaques may be a suitable model for biomedical research.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to determine if 6-month acclimation would enable accurate evaluation of hematological, biochemical data, and ECG recorded under restraint for conscious rhesus monkeys of both sexes. Periodic evaluation of these parameters was made during the 6-month period of acclimation. The platelet count, alkaline phosphatase, glucose, and sodium levels significantly decreased, whereas creatinine increased, compared with pre-acclimation values. The heart rate was significantly reduced compared with pre-acclimation values. QT-RR relation followed the square root regression function, which means modification of Bazett's QTc formula can be applied even if the ECG is recorded under restraint. In conclusion, 6-month acclimation was effective for stabilizing the blood data and for allowing accurate evaluation of the ECG even under restraint. Current results show that an acclimation period at least 3 months may be necessary prior to using rhesus monkeys for chronic studies.  相似文献

With a view to elucidate seasonal variations in testicular spermatogenesis, quantitative analysis of spermatogenic cells was carried out in non-human primate species viz. rhesus (Macaca mulatta) and bonnet (M. radiata) monkeys during breeding (October-December) and non-breeding (May-June) seasons. The results revealed significant inhibition of testicular germ cell population during non-breeding compared with the breeding period in both the species. Quantitative determination of Sertoli cell-germ cell ratio showed a marked decrease in the number of type A-spermatogonia, spermatocytes (non-pachytene and pachytene) and spermatids (in steps 1-12 of spermiogenesis) in rhesus monkey during the non-breeding period. Bonnet monkeys exhibited the significant decline in the number of primary spermatocytes and spermatids during the non-breeding phase. In addition, average diameter of round seminiferous tubules and nuclear diameter of Leydig cells also decreased significantly in rhesus monkeys. However, bonnet monkeys did not show any significant change in nuclear diameter/morphology of Leydig cells, testicular tubular diameter and number of type A-spermatogoniae. Sertoli cell number did not show any significant change during both breeding and non-breeding periods in both the species. The results of this study indicate a prominent seasonal variation in testicular spermatogenic/Leydig cells in rhesus monkeys than those observed in bonnet monkeys.  相似文献

Summary The expression of the heat-stable isoenzyme of alkaline phosphatase in the human and monkey (Macaca mulatta, M. fascicularis) lung was investigated at the light- and electron-microscopic level, using cytochemical techniques and immunocytochemical procedures based on monoclonal and polyclonal antibodies against human term-placental alkaline phosphatase. Both in man and monkey, the enzyme was present in type-I pneumocytes. In the monkey, the enzyme was found in all type-I cells. In man, strong staining was observed only in some type-I cells and in certain cuboidal respiratory bronchiolar cells. Staining was localized on the apical and basal plasma membrane, in apical and basal caveolae, and in the underlying basement membrane. The level of heat-stable alkaline phosphatase expression in the human lung was 10-fold lower than in the monkeys studied. In human fetal lung, the onset of heat-stable alkaline phosphatase expression was associated with the development of the alveolar epithelium from 17–20 weeks gestation onward. Daily sperm production (DSP) rate was estimated in adult male rhesus and bonnet monkeys to evaluate seasonal changes in the gametogenic activity of the testes. Three monkeys of each species were castrated during breeding and non-breeding seasons and DSP rate was estimated by enumerating the homogenization-resistant spermatid nuclei of steps 13 and 14. Results indicated a significant reduction in the DSP rate per testis during the non-breeding season in two species, along with a marked decline in the testis weight. However, the gametogenic capacity of seminiferous tubules did not appear to be markedly affected during non-breeding season, as the DSP rate per gram parenchyma of testis was only marginally reduced. The seasonal changes in DSP were much more pronounced in the rhesus than in the bonnet monkey. The feasibility of circanual rhythm in DSP of sub-human primates to form a baseline for the study of reproductive function in male is discussed.  相似文献

The hemogram, scrum biochcmicals, and electrolytes of aged (15- to 28-year-old) rhesus monkeys were compared with values for younger adults (4-14 years old) maintained under identical conditions. Aged males had lower mean corpuscular volume, serum iron and magnesium, and higher percentages of eosinophils, globulins, and triglycerides than adult males. Aged females had lower mean corpuscular hemoglobin, total leukocyte count, percentage of neutrophils, alkaline phosphatase and magnesium, and higher percentages of lymphocytes and eosinophils, globulins, and uric acid than adult females.  相似文献

Distribution of the human-type and of the simian-type blood groups in rhesus, crab-eating, bonnet, pig-tailed and stump-tailed macaques revealed significant similarities and differences among these species. Human-type A--B-O blood groups cut across taxonomic lines and seem less value for taxonomic purposes than the simian-type blood groups detected by cross-reacting isoimmune rhesus monkey sera.  相似文献

In humans, placental corticotropin-releasing hormone (CRH) production has been linked to the determination of gestational length, and a late gestational fall in CRH-binding protein (CRH-BP) has been linked to the onset of parturition. Expression of placental CRH mRNA is limited to primates, and only in man has a circulating CRH-BP been described. As the fall in CRH-BP in late gestation has been associated with parturition in humans, we sought to determine whether a CRH-BP circulated in the plasma of other primates. It is unclear whether maternal plasma CRH concentrations are elevated in New World monkeys and prosimians. We have therefore performed CRH plasma measurements in the blood of pregnant marmosets, in several species of lemur, and in pregnant and fetal rhesus monkeys as a positive control. Using gel chromatography, CRH-BP was detected in the human, gorilla, chimpanzee, orangutan, gibbon, macaque, squirrel monkey, and marmoset, but was absent in the mandrill, spider monkey, and lemur. CRH was detected in the plasma of pregnant marmosets and rhesus monkeys. CRH was also detected in the fetal rhesus monkey, but at lower concentrations than in maternal plasma. CRH immunoreactivity was not detectable in the plasma of pregnant lemurs or in extracts of lemur placenta. In conclusion, a circulating binding protein for CRH exists in all species of apes but occurs variably among New World and Old World monkeys and is absent in lemurs. The variable occurrence of the CRH-BP does not support a role for this protein in the mechanism of parturition in primates. Maternal CRH is elevated in the pregnant marmoset and rhesus, and may play a role in the pregnancy of New and Old World monkeys.  相似文献

This study investigates the binding of 2 widely used contraceptive steroids, levonorgestrel and norethisterone, by plasma from various animal species and compares the results to those obtained with human plasma. Equilibrium dialysis of plasma samples and polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis were performed as previously described. The plasma samples were diluted with phosphate-buffered saline on the percentage of levonorgestrel and norethisterone bound in comparison to human plasma. The concentration of total protein and albumin was measured colorimetrically in each sample. An ammonium sulphate precipitation technique measured the level of sex-hormone binding globulin (SHBG). Results of the equilibrium dialysis show that binding of levonorgestrel and norethisterone in plasma was similar in adult female rhesus monkeys and baboons to that of humans with both high-affinity and low-affinity classes of binding sites. The dissociation constants of the high-affinity class for levonorgestrel was 4-fold lower than that for norethisterone in all 3 primates, indicating levonorgestrel was more tightly bound. Total protein and albumin concentrations were also the same in all 3 primates. SHBG levels in female monkeys and baboons however were 3-4 times those found in normal human females. Although differences exist in the binding of the 2 gestagens between human, baboon, and rhesus monkey plasma, there are no significant differences in the metabolism of the gestagens in the 3 primates. Overall, the results indicate that in the human, baboon, and rhesus monkey, binding of norgestrel and norethisterone occur mainly to SHBG, which had a greater affinity for norgestrel than for norethisterone, and to a lesser extent, albumin. Differences in the binding of gestagens between human and nonprimate species (rat, dog, rabbit) studied suggest that only baboon and rhesus monkeys may be considered appropriate animal models for extrapolation of results of contraceptive studies to humans.  相似文献

Background Blood reference values for bonnet macaques (Macaca radiata) are limited. The goal of this study was to determine reference ranges for hematological and serum biochemical indices in healthy, socially housed bonnet macaques for males and females over a range of ages. Methods Blood hematological and serum biochemical values were obtained from 50 healthy bonnet macaques of both sexes and aged 10–234 months. Results Age and sex differences were present in a number of measures. Globulins, total protein, and creatinine (CREAT) values were highest among older subjects, while alkaline phophatase, albumin, and phosphorus values were higher in juveniles. Sex differences were present in concentrations of red blood cells and CREAT, with higher values in males. Conclusion The blood parameter data reported here as age‐specific reference values for laboratory‐housed, healthy bonnet macaques may be used to inform clinical care and laboratory primate research.  相似文献

目的比较正常猕猴与人视网膜血管的异同,为进一步利用猕猴建立动物模型来研究视网膜血管打下基础。方法取健康成年猕猴眼球6只和人角膜移植供体剩余眼杯8只的视网膜,用ADP酶法进行血管染色,对两者视网膜血管的走行、血管分级、毛细血管分层以及黄斑区血管拱环等进行比较,测量结果进行统计学检验。结果猕猴与人的视网膜铺片经ADP酶法染色后见视网膜血管自穿出视盘后的一级血管逐渐分支变细,直至五级血管即毛细血管;在视盘旁、赤道部、周边部两者血管面积百分比没有差异;视盘旁血管分为多层,赤道部有两层,且深浅层间相互交通,周边部仅见一层毛细血管且较稀疏;两者黄斑区毛细血管均较密集,有形态完整呈不规则状的血管拱环,血管面积百分比以及血管拱环的面积、周长和直径没有差异。结论猕猴与人在视网膜血管走行、分级、毛细血管分层以及黄斑区血管拱环等多方面有良好的相似性,可用作人类视网膜血管、尤其是黄斑区视网膜血管研究的良好动物模型。  相似文献

Various hematological examinations were performed on a total of 208 Japanese monkeys (Macaca fuscata). One hundred and fifty-eight of the monkeys were originally from different habitats in the western part of Japan, where they existed as free-ranging animals. The remaining 50 monkeys were kept in an open-enclosure for about one year. Laboratory examinations on blood specimens included the following; the erythrocyte and leukocyte counts, hemoglobin concentration, hematocrit, the specific gravity of the blood and plasma, protein concentration of the plasma, SGO-T, SGP-T, A/G ratio and the erythrocyte sedimentation rate. Results were similar to those reported for otherMacaca species. When the data reported here was compared with the known values for man, the Japanese monkey showed lower values for the erythrocyte count, hemoglobin concentration, hematocrit, and the specific gravity of the blood. Higher values were shown for the leukocyte count and SGO-T activity, with a wider overall range of variation.  相似文献

The ovariectomized old cynomolgus monkey is a recognized model of human osteoporosis, and the same species can be used for the assessment of the efficacy and potential toxicity of agents intended to prevent or treat osteoporosis. Several assays have been developed that can measure the same biochemical markers of bone turnover as are used in human patients for the diagnosis and treatment follow-up of bone-related diseases, including osteoporosis. The aim of the present study was to describe the results obtained with these assays in normal control monkeys, their variations with age and sex, and their sensitivity in monitoring the bone turnover induced by ovariectomy in old skeletally mature cynomolgus monkeys. Seven old cynomolgus monkeys were bilaterally ovariectomized and 13 age-matched monkeys were sham-operated. Bone mineral density and biochemical markers were measured before and at regular intervals after surgery for up to 20 months. Total alkaline phosphatase (total ALP), bone-specific alkaline phosphatase isoenzyme (bone ALP) and osteocalcin (OC) were highly correlated to the decrease in bone mineral density (BMD) induced by ovariectomy. Deoxypyridinoline (DPD) measured by enzyme-linked immunoassay was insensitive to the bone resorption induced by ovariectomy, but cross-linked N-telopeptide (NTX-I) was higher in ovariectomized monkeys than in control monkeys. These results demonstrate that reliable biochemical parameters are available to adequately monitor and provide insight into osteoclastic bone resorption and osteoblastic bone formation, the two components of bone turnover in this animal model, and can thus be used to assess the efficacy and toxicity of potential therapeutic agents.  相似文献

The contents of total lipids, phospholipids, cholesterol, triglyceride and free fatty acid in intima and media of thoracic and abdominal segments of aorta from normal human subjects and rhesus monkeys were determined. An increase in total lipids in intima as compared to that of media was noted in both species. A comparison of lipid contents of thoracic and abdominal segments from both species revealed that abdominal segment contained significantly greater lipid. Further, human thoracic and abdominal aortic intima and media had higher content of cholesterol as compared to that of monkey aorta. The differences in lipid profile in aorta of these two species have been highlighted to provide a clue with respect to the differences in the prevalence and morphology of atherosclerosis as seen in monkey and man.  相似文献

A hematological study of the rainbow trout has permitted to establish a sexual difference in the parameters related to it, such as haemoglobin, haematocrit, erythrocyte and leukocyte count. The types of leukocytes were homologated to the human blood. Haemoglobin, haematocrit, erythrocyte sedimentation rate, erythrocyte and leukocyte count values were lower in female than male. The normal values of some biochemistry parameters were equally studied and in some cases they similarly showed a sexual difference. Creatinine, triglycerides, phosphatase alkaline, sodium and globulin values were higher in female than male. Establishing a sexual difference from the biochemical and hematological parameters is possible.  相似文献

目的探讨SIVmac239感染中国恒河猴的血液学和血清生物化学的变化,研究艾滋病的发生机制。方法 20只恒河猴感染SIVmac239后分别在感染前和感染后2、6、9、12、15和18个月在猴空腹状态用盐酸氯胺酮麻醉下静脉釆血。抗凝血用全自动血液细胞分析仪检测血液常规,血清用全自动生化分析仪检测生化指标。结果SIV感染猴红白细胞计数呈逐渐的减少。淋巴细胞计数有较明显减/增的波动。血清酶类ALT和AST没有明显的上升,但在15月时均有所下降P〈0.05~P〈0.01。LDH持续降低,原因未明。CK则逐月上升,至12月时达高峰,后又有所下降。血尿素氮逐月上升,并在6~18个月时P〈0.01。总蛋白量上升,白蛋白逐月降低,球蛋白升高,白蛋白/球蛋白比率倒置。SIV感染猴2个月后总胆固醇、甘油三脂、低密度脂蛋白和高密度脂蛋白均呈上升,至12月时略有下降,但到18月又上升。血糖(GLU)在SIV感染后逐月上升,后期上升更为明显,这可能与胰岛的损害有关。结论 SIVmac239感染猴后,通过SIV侵入相关的器官病变和体液调节失衡导致血液学和血液生物化学产生异常,从而提供有关猴艾滋病的一些基础资料,这将对研究人的艾滋病也许有所帮助。  相似文献

Complement, determined by hemolytic assay, and the third component of complement (C3), determined by radial immunodiffusion assay, were measured in nine nonhuman primate species. The species studied were the titi (Callicebus mollach). The sooty mangabey (Cercocebus atys), the thick-tailed galago or bushbaby (Galago crassicaudatus panganiensis), the crab-eating monkey (Macaca fascicularis), the rhesus monkey (Macaca mulatta), the bonnet monkey (Macaca radiata), the stumptailed macaque (Macaca speciosa), the yellow baboon (Papio cynocephalus), and the black-and-red tamarin (Saguinus nigricollis). Both sheep and bovine erythrocytes were used in the hemolytic complement assays. With the sheep erythrocyte system, sera from four species (yellow baboon, sooty mangabey, bonnet monkey, black-and-red tamarin) had similar titers with both antibody sensitized and non-sensitized erythrocytes. In contrast, the titers obtained using sensitized bovine erythrocytes was always higher than the values obtained using non-sensitized bovine erythrocytes. In all species, the titers for non-sensitized sheep erythrocytes was higher than the titer for non-sensitized bovine erythrocytes. When the species were compared for cross reactivity using the radial immunodiffusion assay for human C3, the rhesus monkey showed the strongest cross reaction; the thick-tailed galago, a prosimian, showed no detectable cross reactivity; and the other species examined showed intermediate degrees of reactivity.  相似文献

The fatty acid composition of thoracic and abdominal aortic intima and media of normal human subjects and rhesus monkeys has been studied. Significantly higher values of unsaturated fatty acids as compared to saturated fatty acids have been noted in the intima of monkey as compared to man. The fatty acid profile of the aortic wall in these two species has provided a probable biochemical basis for the lesser incidence of atherosclerosis in macaques.  相似文献
