The authors studied Schmidt-Lantermann incisures in myelinated fibres of the guinea pig sciatic nerve. Incisures of different shapes were observed and described in longitudinal sections; some of them were simply shaped, but others had a very intricate form. It is assumed that the atypical, intricate forms are complete incisures which change course and acquire a complex shape in longitudinal sections.  相似文献

The Schmidt-Lanterman incisures are formed in the phase of "loose" myelin at 15-17 weeks of prenatal development with the formation of nodes of Ranvier. The formation of mature Schmidt-Lanterman incisure is completed in the second foetis period. Schmidt-Lanterman incisures distribution in nerve fibres of young men depends on fibre diameter. In the nerves of elderly people the distribution of the incisures in the internode doesn't depend on a fibre diameter. In the nerves of the elderly men the number of incisures is twice as much as that in the young people. The incisural ultrastructure in human nerve is similar to its structure in other mammals.  相似文献

Morphological studies of peripheral human nerves have shown that the number o of Schmidt-Lanterman incisures in an internode is proportional to the fibre diameter. Quantitative and ultrastructural examinations of incisures in the shoulder plexus nerves of the juvenile have proved some common features in the distribution and structure of incisures, characteristic for the nerves of both mammals and people. However, in all probability, in the peripheral nerves of man under certain condition there is a mechanism, leading to a sharp increase of the number of incisures in the internodal segment.  相似文献

Fall dormancy (FD) in alfalfa (Medicago sativa L.) can be described using 11 FD ratings, is widely used as an important indicator of stress resistance, productive performance and spring growth. However, the contrasting growth strategies in internode length and internode number in alfalfa cultivars with different FD rating are poorly understood. Here, a growth chamber study was conducted to investigate the effect of FD on plant height, aboveground biomass, internode length, and internode number in alfalfa individuals in the early growth stages. In order to simulate the alfalfa growth environment in the early stage, 11 alfalfa cultivars with FD ratings from one to 11 were chosen and seeded at the greenhouse, and then were transplanted into an artificial growth chamber. The experimental design was a randomized complete block in a split-plot arrangement with three replicates. Plant height, above-ground biomass, internode length, and internode number were measured in early growth stage in all individuals. Our findings showed that plant height and the aboveground biomass of alfalfa did not significantly differ among 11 different FD rated cultivars. Also, internode length and internode number positively affected plant height and the aboveground biomass of alfalfa individuals and the average internode length significantly increased with increasing FD rating. However, internode number tended to sharply decline when the FD rating increased. Moreover, there were no correlations, slightly negative correlations, and strongly negative correlations between internode length and internode number in alfalfa individuals among the three scales, including within-FD ratings, within-FD categories and inter-FD ratings, respectively. Therefore, our results highlighted that contrasting growth strategies in stem elongation were adopted by alfalfa with different FD ratings in the early growth stage. Alfalfa cultivars with a high FD rating have longer internodes, whereas more dormant alfalfa cultivars have a larger number of internodes. There were tradeoffs between internode length and internode number in response to FD in alfalfa, which reflected certain scale-dependence.  相似文献

Summary Normally excitable single motor fibers of the frog's sciatic nerve were treated with Acridine orange of low concentration (0.2 Gamma per ml). The storage of the dye begins in the Schwann nuclei. Then the myelin sheath becomes fluorescent in its full extent showing nodal gaps. The staining process could not be influenced by stimulating the fiber. The excitability is not influenced if a stained fiber is kept in darkness but disappears during exposure to the blue light of the fluorescence microscope.Transsection of a fiber is followed by rapid disintegration of the injured internode, beginning with the appearance of Schmitd-Lanterman's incisures and then leading to splitting of the myelin sheath into several lamellas which protrude into the axon. Application of Acridine orange in this stage fails to stain the cut internode, although the proximal internodes show normal fluorescence. The possibility of active incorporation of the dye into the myelin sheath is discussed.  相似文献

Vestibular nerves of squirrel monkeys (Saimiri sciureus) embedded in plastics and epoxies were examined with light microscopy (LM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM), and computerized measures were obtained and analyzed statistically. An average of 12,412 perikarya and 12,005 myelinated nerve fibers was obtained. Approximately 0.7% of the perikarya appeared unmyelinated under LM. About 500 unmyelinated fibers were counted. The cross-sectional area of 1,864 perikarya was 200-650 micron 2. The cross-sectional area of 1,346 nerve fibers was 3-11 micron 2 for the axoplasm and 11-12 micron 2 for the myelin sheath of the same fiber. Myelin thickness was directly proportional to the axoplasm cross-sectional area of the nerve fibers. The cross-sectional area of central axons and peripheral dendrites differed significantly (p less than 0.001). The initial segments of peripheral dendrites were usually smaller, but longer than the initial segments of the central axons. Both initial segments increased in diameter after the first node of Ranvier. Schmidt-Lantermann incisures were more abundant in thick and heavily myelinated fibers than in thin and lightly myelinated fibers. Larger perikarya usually had larger fibers and vice versa, within the first 100-200 micron from the first node of Ranvier. No major ultrastructural differences were found between myelinated and unmyelinated perikarya, except at the hillock region. The Nissl substance was preferentially located in the peripheral cytoplasm.  相似文献

The myelin-associated glycoprotein (MAG) is an integral membrane protein (congruent to 100,000 mol wt) which is a minor component of purified peripheral nervus system (PNS) myelin. In the present study, MAG was localized immunocytochemically in 1-micrometer thick Epon sections of 7-d and adult rat peripheral nerves, and its localization was compared to that of the major structural protein (Po) of PNS myelin. To determine more precisely the localization of MAG, immunostained areas in 1 micrometer sections were traced on electron micrographs of identical areas from adjacently cut thin sections.l MAG was localized in periaxonal membranes. Schmidt-Lantermann incisures, paranodal membranes, and the outer mesaxon of PNS myelin sheaths. Compact regions of PNS myelin did not react with MAG antiserum. The results demonstrate MAG's presence in "'semi-compact" Schwann cell or myelin membranes that have a gap of 12-14 nm between extracellular leaflets and a spacing of 5 nm or more between cytoplasmic leaflets. In compact regions of the myelin sheath which do not contain MAG, the cytoplasmic leaflets are "fused" and form the major dense line, whereas the extracellular leaflets are separated by a 2.0 nm gap appearing as paired minor dense lines. Thus, it is proposed that MAG plays a role in maintaining the periaxonal space, Schmidt-Lantermann incisures, paranodal myelin loops, and outer mesaxon by preventing "complete" compaction of Schwann cell and myelin membranes. The presence of MAG in these locations also suggests that MAG may serve a function in regulating myelination in the PNS.  相似文献

A histochemical study of mucopolysaccharides in the dog spinal cord and dorsal root ganglia is reported in this paper. The histochemical techniques used were the following: PAS, colloidal iron, toluidine blue (pH 5.4 and 3.5), thionine (pH 5.4 and 3.5) and alcian blue 8GX (pH 1 and 2.5). Some histological stains were used also. Two types of neurons could be observed in spinal cord sections stained with colloidal iron techniques. In some neuron a border line of mucosubstances could be seen. In the dorsal root ganglia, different patterns of Nissl bodies distribution in neurons were described. This different distribution of Nissl bodies is associated with different metachromatic colorations of neurons. By using the colloidal iron method, two types of neurons were also revealed in the dorsal root ganglia: some neurons are of a yellow, small-sized and star-shaped type and others are of a light green, larger and round-shaped type. Mucosubstances in the endoneurium and perineurium of nerve fibers, in the Ranvier nodules and in the Schmidt-Lantermann incisures were observed. The possibility that the functional rhythm in some cases might be responsible for the difference in coloration between the dorsal root ganglia neurons is suggested.  相似文献

The mycelial colonies of Trichoderma viride were grown between two thin cellophane films for exact measurements. The results obtained testify to the fact that in a mature colony the average length of intercalary cells, the average number of intercalary cells in an internode and the average internode length are stable. At this stage of morphogenesis the mean internode length is shown to be equal to the product of the average intercalary cell length and the average number of intercalary cells in an internode. The coefficients of variation of the internode length and the number of intercalary cells in an internode are found to be equal. The length of an intercalary cell and duration of the doubling cycle of an apical cell of T. viride obey the law of Gamma distribution. According to our observations, the Gamma distribution is typical for the length and duration of the doubling cycle of any bacterial cells and cells of any multicellular organisms.  相似文献

Disturbance is common in nature and disturbance-caused fragmentation of clones happens frequently in stoloniferous plants. After fragmentation storage in stolon internodes and leaves may enhance survival and growth of stoloniferous plants. We hypothesize that (1) increasing length of the internode attached to the ramet and (2) presence of leaves will increase ramet survival and growth, and that (3) internode positions (before or after the ramet or both) will also play a role. We tested these hypotheses with the stoloniferous, invasive herb Alternanthera philoxeroides. In one experiment, we measured survival and growth of the ramets either without stolon internode (0 cm in length) or attached with internodes of 2, 4, 6 and 8 cm and either with or without leaves. In the other experiment, we measured survival and growth of the ramets attached with a proximal internode (before the ramet), a distal internode (after the ramet) or both. Increasing internode length and presence of leaves significantly increased the survival rate and growth (biomass, leaf area, number of ramets, stolon length and number of leaves) of the A. philoxeroides plants. All growth measures of A. philoxeroides at harvest were larger when the ramets were attached with a distal internode than when they were attached with a proximal internode, but the survival rate was lower. These results support the hypotheses and suggest that storage in stolons and leaves may be of great significance for clonal plants in frequently disturbed habitats and may contribute greatly to the invasiveness of A. philoxeroides.  相似文献

Observations with the electron microscope of longitudinal sections of the sciatic nerves of infant mice during the period of early myelin formation are described. These observations are interpreted in relation to previous studies of transverse sections, and a general picture of the formation of an internodal length of the myelin sheath in three dimensions is formulated. In general, an internodal length of myelin sheath is attained by the spiral wrapping of the infolded Schwann cell surface; the increase in length of the internode during maturation is at least partially explained by the increased length of axon covered by the overlapping of successive layers during the wrapping of the infolded Schwann cell surface; and the nodes of Ranvier refer to the structure complex at the junctions of adjacent non-syncytial Schwann cells. The fact that the mode of formation of myelin brings each of its layers into intimate contact with the axon surface at the nodes is emphasized because of the possible functional significance of this arrangement. The manner of origin of Schmidt-Lantermann clefts remains obscure. Certain isolated observations provide evidence for the possibility that occasional internodes of myelin may form from several small segments of myelin within a single Schwann cell.  相似文献

Myelin-Associated Glycoprotein and Other Proteins in Trembler Mice   总被引:5,自引:4,他引:1  
The myelin-associated glycoprotein (MAG) and other myelin proteins were quantitated in homogenates of whole sciatic nerve from adult and 20-day-old Trember mice. In the nerves of adult mice, the concentration of MAG was increased from 1.1 ng/micrograms of total protein in the controls to 1.4 ng/micrograms protein in the Tremblers. By contrast, the concentrations of P0 glycoprotein and myelin basic proteins were reduced to 27% and 20% of control levels, respectively. Immunoblots demonstrated that P2 was also greatly reduced in the Trembler nerves. The specific activity of 2',3'-cyclic nucleotide 3'-phosphodiesterase (CNP) was 65% of the control level. Immunoblot analysis showed that MAG had a higher than normal apparent Mr in the sciatic nerves of the Trembler mice, but its apparent Mr was normal in the brains of these mutants. In 20-day-old Tremblers, the P0 and myelin basic protein were reduced slightly less to about 40% of the level in the nerves of age-matched controls. CNP and MAG levels were not significantly different from those in controls, and MAG exhibited a shift toward higher apparent Mr similar to that in the adults. The maintenance of high MAG levels despite the severe deficit of myelin, as reflected by the decrease of the major myelin proteins, is consistent with the immunocytochemical localization of MAG in periaxonal Schwann cell membranes, Schmidt-Lantermann incisures, lateral loops, and the outer mesaxon and its absence from compact myelin. The abnormal form of MAG in the peripheral nervous system (PNS) of the Trembler mice may contribute to the pathology in this mutant.  相似文献

Genetic control of plant size and shape is a promising perspective,particularly in fruit trees, in order to select desirable genotypes.A recent study on architectural traits in an apple progeny showedthat internode length was a highly heritable character. However,few studies have been devoted to internode cellular patterningin dicotyledonous stems, and the interplay between the two elementarycell processes that contribute to their length, i.e. cell divisionand elongation, is not fully understood. The present study aimedat unravelling their contributions in the genetic variationof internode length in a selection of F1 and parent genotypesof apple tree, by exploring the number of cells and cell shapewithin mature internodes belonging to the main axes. The resultshighlighted that both the variables were homogeneous in samplescollected either along a sagital line or along the pith width,and suggest that cell lengthening was homogeneous during internodedevelopment. They allowed the total number of cells to be estimatedon the internode scale and opened up new perspectives for simplifyingtissue sampling procedures for further investigations. Differencesin internode length were observed between the genotypes, inparticular between the parents, and partly resulted from a compensationbetween cell number and cell length. However, genetic variationsin internode length primarily involved the number of cells,while cell length was more secondary. These results argue foran interplay between cellular and organismal control of internodeshape that may involve the rib meristem. In many plant species, including chrysanthemum, a strong positive correlation between internode length and DIF [difference between day (DT) and night (NT) temperature] has been observed. However, Langton and Cockshull (1997. Scientia Horticulturae 69: 229-237) reported no such relationship and showed that absolute DT and NT explained internode length rather than DIF. To investigate these conflicting results and to clarify the validity of the DIF concept, cut chrysanthemums (Chrysanthemum 'Reagan Improved') were grown in growth chambers at all 16 combinations of four DT and four NT (16, 20, 24 and 28 degrees C) with a 12 h day length. Length of internode 10, number of internodes and stem length were measured on days 5, 10, 17, 22 and 27 after starting the temperature treatments. Internode length on day 10 showed a positive linear relationship with DIF (R2 = 0.64). However, when internodes had reached their final length in all treatments (day 27), a much stronger positive linear relation was observed (R2 = 0.81). A model to predict final internode length was developed based on the absolute DT and NT responses: both responses were optimum curves and no significant interaction between DT and NT occurred [final internode length (mm) = -32.23 + 3.56DT + 1.08NT - 0.0687DT2 - 0.0371NT2; R2 = 0.91, where TD is day temperature and TN is night temperature]. It is shown that DIF can predict final internode length only within a temperature range where effects of DT and NT are equal in magnitude and opposite in sign (18-24 degrees C). Internode appearance rate, as well as stem length formed during the experiment, showed an optimum response to DT.  相似文献

Abstract Stock plants of Hedera helix cv. Pittsburgh were grown in controlled environment rooms at four different irradiances (light intensities) 10, 22, 37 or 46 W m-2 PAR (photosynthetically active radiation). The root formation on single internode cuttings from these stock plants was observed in relation to length of the internodes and the position on the vine (topophysis). The analysis indicated that the root number was primarily dependent on internode length which in turn was dependent on irradiance to stock plants and topophysis. The irradiance of 37 W m-2 PAR was optimal for internode length and root number and the basal internode was the one which produced the greatest number of roots.  相似文献

Shoot growth and histogenesis were followed in five unrelated tree taxa possessing inherently diverse patterns of shoot development. Following the resumption of growth in spring, each species differs quantitatively in the number of internodes elongating contemporaneously, in rates and duration of internodal elongation and seasonal periodicity of shoot growth. The basic pattern of internode elongation and histogenesis is qualitatively similar in each of the dicotyledonous species observed irrespective of growth habit or final form of the shoot produced. During the intial phase of internode development, growth is essentially uniform throughout young internodes, corresponding to an active period of cell division during which time pith cells increase in size to about one-third their final length. Subsequently, the pattern of cell division shifts progressively upward concomitant with increased elongation and maturation of pith cells in the basal portion of developing internodes. Thereafter, a wave of cell division accompanied by cell elongation continues to proceed acropetally until growth finally ceases in the distal portion of each internode. As long as internode elongation continues, frequently at distances 15–20 cm below the shoot apex, cell divisions still occur in the distal growing portion. As successive portions of each internode mature acropetally, final length of pith cells becomes relatively uniform throughout the internode. During the process of internode growth and development, cell lengths increase only two- to threefold, whereas cell numbers increase ten- to 30-fold, indicating the dominant role of cell division and increases in cell number to final internode length. Morphological patterns of shoot expression associated with differences in internode lengths along the axis of either preformed or neoformed shoots, as well as sylleptic branches, are due to differences in cell number rather than final cell length. Significant variations in final internode lengths along the axis of episodic shoots, caused by either endogenous or exogenous factors, are also attributed to differences in cell number.  相似文献

In the optic nerve of Anurans numerous myelinated and unmyelinated axons appear under the electron microscope as compact bundles that are closely bounded by one or several glial cells. In these bundles the unmyelinated fibers (0.15 to 0.6 µ in diameter) are many times more numerous than the myelinated fibers, and are separated from each other, from the bounding glial cells, or from adjacent myelin sheaths, by an extracellular gap that is 90 to 250 A wide. This intercellular space is continuous with the extracellular space in the periphery of the nerve through the numerous mesaxons and cell boundaries which reach the surface. Numerous desmosomes reinforce the attachments of adjacent glial membranes. The myelinated axons do not follow any preferential course and, like the unmyelinated ones, have a sinuous path, continuously shifting their relative position and passing from one bundle to another. At the nodes of Ranvier they behave entirely like unmyelinated axons in their relations to the surrounding cells. At the internodes they lie between the unmyelinated axons without showing an obvious myelogenic connection with the surrounding glial cells. In the absence of connective tissue separating individual myelinated fibers and with each glial cell simultaneously related to many axons, this myelogenic connection is highly distorted by other passing fibers and is very difficult to demonstrate. However, the mode of ending of the myelin layers at the nodes of Ranvier and the spiral disposition of the myelin layers indicate that myelination of these fibers occurs by a process similar to that of peripheral nerves. There are no incisures of Schmidt-Lantermann in the optic myelinated fibers.  相似文献

植物功能性状反映植物适应环境变化过程中在不同器官形态与功能间的资源权衡与分配策略。典型草原围封后枯落物累积导致群落光照、热量和水分的重新分配并改变微环境特征。在此过程中植物地上功能性状将通过怎样的变化来适应新的环境,目前尚不清楚。2015—2017年每年8月对内蒙古地区3种典型草原共有物种羊草(Leymus chinensis)的植株、叶片和茎干功能性状进行了测量与分析。结果表明:枯落物累积显著增加了羊草的植株高度、单株重量、茎叶比和总叶面积;枯落物累积显著增加了羊草的叶片长度、叶片重量、单叶面积、节间长度和茎干重量,这些性状属于敏感性状;枯落物累积对羊草的叶片数量和节间数量无显著影响,相对而言,这些性状属于惰性性状;羊草的单株重量与植株高度、叶片重量呈极显著的正相关关系(P<0.0001);羊草的植株高度与节间数量、节间长度呈极显著的正相关关系(P<0.0001)。本研究结果从植物地上功能性状的角度阐明了典型草原植物对环境变化的适应方式,可为围封草原的合理管理提供基础数据与理论依据。  相似文献

对多花黑麦草(Lolium multiflorum Lam.)7个品种进行了不同时期30个数量性状指标的测定,利用数量性状对多花黑麦草性状进行了概率分级的研究,并进行了相关性分析。结果表明,30个数量性状变异范围在7.55%~40.65%之间,变异系数最大的是分蘖数,最小的是千粒重。根据各数量性状的K-S检验及χ2检验,发现仅少部分性状不符合χ2分布;最终将28个数量性状分为5个等级,另外将抽穗期(春化后)和分蘖数分为3个等级。多花黑麦草的30个数量性状之间相关性分析结果表明株高与生长习性、小穗数与小穗密度、上部节间长与节间数呈极显著负相关,花序长与小穗密度呈极显著正相关。研究结果为多花黑麦草品种的鉴定评价、品种选育及数量性状的分级提供了理论依据。  相似文献

In a field experiment, Psammochloa villosa plants were subjected to rhizome severing. Severing rhizomes reduced growth in the young, detached rhizome segments compared to the controls in terms of all measured clonal growth-related characters, i.e. number of rhizomes and shoots, total rhizome length and total number of rhizome nodes. In a container experiment, the control ramets received uniform water and nutrient supply but in heterogeneous treatments high and low levels of water and nutrient supply, respectively were established. The number of ramets, total rhizome length, dry weight per ramet and biomass allocation to the rhizome had higher values at high water and nutrient supply, while spacer length (length of rhizome between shoots) and rhizome internode length were not affected. The local response of ramets given low water supply was enhanced due to connection to a well watered parent ramet in terms of number of ramets, total rhizome length and dry weight per ramet. A remote effect was not observed in the other treatments or in the other measured characters.  相似文献
