We compared the general activity and heavy metal resistance of non-specific esterases in two populations of the leaf beetle Chrysomela lapponica from habitats severely contaminated by heavy metals (mostly Ni and Cu) and two populations from unpolluted habitats. Concentrations of Ni and Cu in adult beetles from the most polluted site were 7.7 and 3.6 times higher that in beetles from unpolluted habitats. Larval esterases showed higher activity and lower susceptibility to heavy metals than esterases of adults. Larval esterase activity did not differ between populations from polluted and unpolluted sites, but adult beetles from polluted localities had lower esterase activity than beetles from unpolluted habitats. Both Cu and Ni sulfates in millimolar concentrations in vitro suppressed esterase activity of larvae from unpolluted habitats, but caused no negative effect on esterases of larvae from polluted sites. Similarly, inhibition of adult esterase activity by Ni was stronger in beetles from unpolluted localities than in beetles from polluted localities. This indicates that resistance of non-specific esterases to heavy metals is higher in leaf beetle populations from contaminated environment.  相似文献

石油污染物通过自然泄漏和各种人类活动进入生态环境,对鸟类的生存产生影响。本文综述了国内外有关石油污染物对鸟类所产生的影响、受污染鸟类及其栖息地的清洁修复技术的研究现状以及发展趋势。现有研究发现,石油的毒性和石油对羽毛结构与功能的破坏是石油污染影响鸟类的主要原因。石油污染不仅对鸟类有直接的致死作用,而且能产生许多慢性危害,包括引起鸟类溶血性贫血、使其免疫能力下降、降低羽毛的保温和防水能力等。对鸟类栖息地中的石油污染进行及时清理并开展对受污染鸟类的清洁修复工作,是减轻石油污染对鸟类影响的重要手段。我国作为石油消费大国,关于石油污染对鸟类影响的研究与国外相比滞后,亟需在石油污染对鸟类的短期和长期影响、受污染鸟类及其栖息地的清洁修复技术等方面开展更多的研究。  相似文献

Four populations of kudzu (Puerarta lobata Willd.) were studiedin rural, relatively unpolluted areas and in habitats characterizedby heavy industrial pollution in north-west Tennessee, U.S.A.Leaf length, leaf width, petiole length, flower size and podsize showed a decrease in growth in heavily polluted areas.Trichome frequency and length on the leaf surfaces increasedwith an increase in environmental pollution while the stomatalfrequency values showed a slight decrease in polluted habitats.The length of the largest and the smallest stomata and the numberof undulations in the epidermal cells in kudzu plant populationswere not affected by environmental pollution. The accumulation of heavy metals (Cu, Ni, Zn, Mn, and Fe), parameters of the photosynthetic apparatus, and flavonoid content in leaves of two widespread species of submerged hydrophytes (Elodea canadensis Michx. and Potamogeton perfoliatus L.) from habitats with different levels of pollutions have been studied. The investigations are carried out in the surroundings of the metallurgical plant in the town of Revda, Sverdlovsk oblast, Russia (Revda River, upstream and downstream the confluence of the sewage). It is shown that hydrophytes from polluted habitats (impact site) differ from the plants of a less polluted zone (background site) by a higher accumulation of heavy metals (HMs), greater leaf thickness, and larger cells and chloroplasts. Plants from the polluted site are characterized by a high content of photosynthetic pigments, while flavonoid content in the leaves is lower. The identified trends indicate a high adaptive potential of these species of plants and their ability to inhabit in an aquatic environment polluted with metals and other pollutants.  相似文献

The distribution and frequency of Stigeoclonium tenue Kütz. in some South Wales rivers were studied for 12 months to assess the value of the alga as an indicator of organic pollution. It colonised organically polluted areas at most times of the year, and generally in greater abundance as compared with cleaner stations. Tolerance was observed over a wide range of a number of environmental factors: pH, water temperature, suspended solids content, flow, nitrate, nitrite and ammonia nitrogen, phosphate phosphorus, dissolved oxygen, B.O.D., electrical conductivity, chloride, total hardness, magnesium hardness and calcium hardness. Greatest tolerance was expressed mainly in the spring months when the organism became widely distributed in diverse habitats ranging from organically polluted to fairly clean conditions. Some precautions in the use of S. tenue as an indicator of organic pollution are therefore suggested. In particular, the frequency of the organism should be noted especially in spring, since organic conditions are suspect only when the alga is highly abundant.  相似文献

2011年夏秋季,在上海市全境83个河道断面开展了河道底栖动物采样,共获取底栖动物20个分类单位(种)。9个极严重污染断面未采集到活体生物,生境基本丧失。其余74个有活体生物断面,采用三种常用生物指数:Shannon-Wiener多样性指数、Hilsenhoff耐污指数、Goodnight修正指数分别进行计算及评价。Shannon-Wiener多样性指数判别为25个严重污染和49个重污染断面;Hilsenhoff耐污指数划分38个重污染、5个中污染和31个轻污染断面;Goodnight修正指数划分33个重污染、2个中污染和39个轻污染断面。与典型河道断面的水质理化指标监测值进行对照,Shannon-Weiner多样性指数对河道水质评价的准确度较低,Hilsenhoff生物指数和Goodnight修正指数的水质评价效率及准确度均较高,断面污染等级与水质理化指标基本对应。  相似文献

Diversity of marine fungi in the Gulf of Mexico remains unknown for the most part, therefore the geographical distribution patterns of these microorganisms are mostly unknown too. Twelve sandy beaches located in this sea were sampled to evaluate the diversity of marine fungi, revealed by fruiting on natural substrata incubated in the laboratory for up to 12 months. Species richness and diversity differed between beaches, and corresponded with the presence of main and highly polluted river mouths, nearshore marine environments, and core industrial and port developments. Contaminants and local anthropogenic activities may be reducing the diversity of marine ascomycetes. Connections between beaches and different nearshore habitats explain the high diversity observed, since they represent a varied source of substrata for decomposition and heterogeneous environmental conditions. We recognized four main local species distribution patterns. Moreover, the constrained correspondence analysis showed that temperature is a major environmental variable affecting the distribution of these fungi. By a linear regression we showed a significant relationship between temperature and diversity.  相似文献

The rate of development and degree of survival of Asellus aquaticus eggs outside the marsupium of ovigerous females are affected by water quality and temperature. Eggs were maintained in polluted river water and relatively clean canal water. Developmental rates increase with increased temperature, but survival decreases. Eggs from polluted site ovigerous females survive better in clean water than in polluted water. Eggs from clean site ovigerous females maintained in polluted water have significantly lower survival rates than eggs from the polluted site at all temperatures tested. The developmental rate of clean site eggs is increased significantly in polluted water at 10–25 °C, possibly as a response to the stress imposed upon them.It is suggested that the method outlined might form the basis of a useful bioassay technique for measuring water quality.  相似文献

Suggestions for a small-scale exploitation of seaweeds in the northern Adriatic are given along with a survey of the fresh weight biomass and chemical composition of individual species. The intertidal is occupied by Fucus virsoides. In polluted sites, it is replaced by seasonal annuals. Cystoseira species are dominant in the upper subtidal and represent the major part of seaweed resources in this area. In polluted sites they are replaced by Halopteris scoparia and Dictyota dichotoma. Peaks in biomass were found in spring in the upper water layers and in early summer lower in the subtidal. The protein content of most species exhibited maxima in spring. Elevated values were found in plants from polluted and estuarine habitats.  相似文献

The abundance of Aeromonas hydrophila was measured in 147 natural aquatic habitats in 30 states and Puerto Rico. Viable cell counts were used to estimate density at all sites by using Rimler-Shotts medium, a differential presumptive medium for A. hydrophila. Temperature, pH, conductivity, salinity, and turbidity were measured simultaneously with water sample collection. The density of A. hydrophila was higher in lotic than in lentic systems. Saline systems had higher densities of A. hydrophila than did freshwater systems. A. hydrophila could not be isolated from extremely saline, thermal, or polluted waters, even though it was found over wide ranges of salinity, conductivity, temperature, pH, and turbidity. Of the water quality parameters measured, only conductivity was significantly regressed with density of A. hydrophila.  相似文献

以拟水狼蛛为研究对象,采用原子吸收光谱法测定了不同生境汞在土壤和蜘蛛体内的含量,研究了不同生境汞对拟水狼蛛抗氧化酶的影响.结果 表明:4个采集样点(S1、S2、S3和S4)拟水狼蛛体内重金属汞的含量差异显著(P<0.05).在重金属胁迫下,重金属汞含量高(S1、S2和S3)的拟水狼蛛体内GSH含量显著高于对照组(S4),是对照组的2.4~3.8倍.GSH含量与重金属汞含量显著正相关(r2=0.9624,P<0.01).对于GST、CAT和SOD,重金属汞含量高则酶活性低,GST、CAT和SOD酶活性与重金属汞含量显著负相关.因此检测拟水狼蛛体内的酶活性变化即可知环境中重金属汞的污染程度,提示拟水狼蛛可以作为重金属污染的重要监测指示生物.  相似文献

The hyporheic zone and its interactions with coarse surface sediments is increasingly reported by aquatic ecologists because the water exchanges between surface and subsurface are important factors for the understanding of the ecosystem functioning. However, the hyproheic oligochaete assemblages have received less attention than other assemblages such as crustaceans. In addition, studies investigating the incidence of pollution in watercourses have mostly focused on the benthic zone and have neglected the hyporheic zone. Some examples are given from an unpolluted glacial river (Roseg), polluted plains rivers (Moselle, Rhône) and a protected wetland in an urbanized environment. The hyporheic zone kept the memory of past and present incidences of pollution, in particular when downwellings of polluted surface waters to the hyporheic zone predominated. The Active hydrologic Exchange Describers between surface and subsurface (AED oligochaete species) were the same in the glacial river Roseg, the rivers Rhône and Moselle and the urbanized wetland. The predominance of pollution-tolerant species like Limnodrilus hoffmeisteri was observed in polluted groundwater as well as in polluted surface coarse sediments. Moreover, the urbanized wetland exhibited a high species richness, suggesting that the hyporheic zone is a reservoir of species. The oligochaete communities enable biologists to simultaneously assess the pollution incidence, the permeability of coarse habitats, the water exchanges between surface and subsurface, and give an approximate measure of the metabolic activities in the sediments. Consequently, the simultaneous study of surface and hyporheic oligochaete assemblages is of great interest when considering the ecological functioning of watercourses and the incidence of pollution inputs.  相似文献

Seven strains with identical 16S rRNA genes affiliated with the Luna2 cluster (Actinobacteria) were isolated from six freshwater habitats located in temperate (Austria and Australia), subtropical (People's Republic of China), and tropical (Uganda) climatic zones. The isolates had sequence differences at zero to five positions in a 2,310-nucleotide fragment of the ribosomal operon, including part of the intergenic spacer upstream of the 16S rRNA gene, the complete 16S rRNA gene, the complete 16S-23S internal transcribed spacer (ITS1), and a short part of the 23S rRNA gene. Most of the few sequence differences found were located in the internal transcribed spacer sequences. Two isolates obtained from habitats in Asia and Europe, as well as two isolates obtained from different habitats in the People's Republic of China, had identical sequences for the entire fragment sequenced. In spite of minimal sequence differences in the part of the ribosomal operon investigated, the strains exhibited significant differences in their temperature response curves (with one exception), as well as pronounced differences in their temperature optima (25.0 to 35.6 degrees C). The observed differences in temperature adaptation were generally in accordance with the thermal conditions in the habitats where the strains were isolated. Strains obtained from temperate zone habitats had the lowest temperature optima, strains from subtropical habitats had intermediate temperature optima, and a strain from a tropical habitat had the highest temperature optimum. Based on the observed temperature responses, we concluded that the strains investigated are well adapted to the thermal conditions in their home habitats. Consequently, these closely related strains represent different ecotypes adapted to different thermal niches.  相似文献

Gray snapper (Lutjanus griseus) encounter a wide range of temperatures and salinities in nearshore and estuarine juvenile habitats. The energetic response of juvenile gray snapper to temperature and salinity was measured in laboratory experiments to determine the influence of these physicochemical factors on the potential value of different juvenile nurseries. Maximum consumption and growth rates of juvenile (25-50 mm SL) gray snapper were determined in 12-day trials at 20 temperature/salinity combinations representing conditions in juvenile habitats. Ad libitum feeding level of individual fish was measured daily. Maximum weight specific feeding rate increased significantly with temperature and salinity; however, the effect of salinity was much less than that of temperature. Linear growth rate and specific growth rate both increased with temperature, and salinity did not have a significant effect on either. Gross growth efficiency (K1, growth×consumption−1*100) increased with temperature and was significantly lower at high salinities, indicating increased energetic costs. The higher K1 at lower salinities has several implications for juvenile gray snapper in low salinity habitats: (1) they would need less food to achieve the same somatic growth as juveniles in high salinity habitats; (2) they would have higher growth at limited ration levels as compared to high salinity habitats; and (3) they would have less impact on prey populations than higher salinity habitats assuming similar gray snapper densities.  相似文献

The general size and composition of the extant yeast populations in 13 polluted freshwater habitats were surveyed. Subsequently the yeast populations in three of the 13 locations were quantitatively determined and compared. The three locations had (A) low pollution levels, (B) heavy industrial waste pollution, and (C) heavy domestic waste pollution.The yeast population at location A was dominated byRhodotorula andCryptococcus isolates. At station BRhodotorula andCandida were predominant.Candida isolates were in the majority at location C andRhodotorula strains were second in frequency, but were much lower in proportion of the population than at the other two habitats.These polluted waters in general had large yeast populations, ranging as high as 27,000 yeasts per 100 ml, and averaging approximately 3000 yeasts per 100 ml.The presence of human wastes was especially associated with large increases in the proportion ofCandida yeasts in the environment. The genusRhodotorula was consistently present at all locations, but the genusCryptococcus was a major component of the yeast population only in non-polluted or lightly polluted fresh water.We appreciate the assistance of the Calumet Area Surveillance Program, Federal Water Pollution Control Administration, Chicago, in the collection of water samples. Shallow marine calcifiers play an important role as marine ecosystem engineers and in the global carbon cycle. Understanding their response to warming is essential to evaluate the fate of marine ecosystems under global change scenarios. A rare opportunity to test the effect of warming acting on natural ecosystems is by investigation of heat‐polluted areas. Here, we study growth and calcification in benthic foraminifera that inhabit a thermally polluted coastal area in Israel, where they are exposed to elevated temperatures reaching up to ~42°C in summer. Live specimens of two known heat‐tolerant species Lachlanella sp. 1 and Pararotalia calcariformata were collected over a period of 1 year from two stations, representing thermally polluted and undisturbed (control) shallow hard bottom habitats. Single‐chamber element ratios of these specimens were obtained using laser ablation, and the Mg/Ca of the most recently grown final chambers were used to calculate their calcification temperatures. Our results provide the first direct field evidence that these foraminifera species not only persist at extreme warm temperatures but continue to calcify and grow. Species‐specific Mg/Ca thermometry indicates that P. calcariformata precipitate their shells at temperatures as high as 40°C and Lachlanella sp. 1 at least up to 36°C, but both species show a threshold for calcification at cold temperatures: calcification in P. calcariformata only occurred above 22°C and in Lachlanella sp. 1 above 15°C. Our observations from the heat‐polluted area indicate that under future warming scenarios, calcification in heat‐tolerant foraminifera species will not be inhibited during summer, but instead the temperature window for their calcification will be expanded throughout much of the year. The observed inhibition of calcification at low temperatures indicates that the role of heat‐tolerant foraminifera in carbonate production will most likely increase in future decades.  相似文献
