Summary The present study describes the distribution of alkaline and acid phosphatases in the lateral line nerve of Saccobranchus fossilis and optic nerve of Mystus seenghala. The distribution of the phosphatases is quite different in these nerves, i.e., in the lateral line nerve the axons are intensely positive for alkaline and acid phosphatases whereas the myelin sheaths are negative for the enzymes. In the optic nerve, however, the axons are negative and the activity of the alkaline and acid phosphatases appear in the form of bands in the myelin sheaths. The significance of these differences is discussed with special reference to the controversy about the neurokeratin network and the physiological activities of nerves. The glial processes intervening between the myelinated axons of the optic nerve are also stained by the reactions for alkaline and acid phosphatases. The metabolic significance of phosphatases at these sites is discussed.  相似文献

The biochemistry and histochemistry of Pegosomum egretti have been studied using standard techniques. Phosphatases were analysed colorimetrically; the optimum pH for acid phosphatase activity was 5.0 and for alkaline phosphatase was 10.0. The results were compared with those of other trematodes. Histochemical localization of acid and alkaline phosphatases revealed differences in enzymes activity in various tissues. These differences in the site and pattern of distribution of the two enzymes have been discussed in relation to transport of raw materials and the metabolism of the cell concerned.  相似文献

Summary The distribution of glycogen, non-specific alkaline phosphatase, and specific phosphatases acting on adenosine monophosphate, adenosine triphosphate, inosine triphosphate, thiamine pyrophosphate, uridine diphosphate, fructose-6-phosphate, fructose-1:6-diphosphate, and glucose-6-phosphate is described in the placentae and accessory structures of the horse, sheep, cat, dog, ferret, rat, rabbit, guinea pig, and man, and in the yolk-sac of the chick, the oviviparous fish Limia maculata, and man.Correlation between the distribution of these substances and placental function is sought, and the results are discussed with respect to the trophoblast, decidua, giant cells, yolk-sac, non-placental chorion and maternal epithelium and uterine secretion, and allantois. The significance of the presence of the enzymes in the carnivore interstitial matrix, the ferret thickened endoderm and the rodent spongy zone is also considered.  相似文献

Out of other functions performed by vitellaria in digenetic trematodes, their role in the formation of shell globules and shell membrane of the capsule, as well as in the excretion of iron with the help of vitamin C is very important. The present histochemical work shows the localization of certain enzymes in different parts of the reproductive system of ten species of trematodes viz.: Neopronocephalus triangularis Mehra, 1932; Glossimetra orientalis Mehra, 1937; Orientodiscus lobatus Srivastava, 1938; Eumegacetes artemii Mehra, 1935; Ganeo tigrinus mehra et Negi, 1928; Encyclometra caudata Dollfus, 1928; Thapariella udaipurensis Gupta and Sharma, 1970; Paradistomoides indicum Narain et Das, 1929; Patagifer wesleyi Verma, 1936; Proalarioides tropidonotus Vidyarthi, 1937 and indicates their functional significance. The hydrolytic enzymes (alkaline phosphatase, acid phosphatase, 5-nucleotidase and ATPase) are suggestive of their involvement in the uptake of certain nutrients, glycogen and lipoprotein being very significant among others. The four enzymes could also be detected in testes, ovary, uterus, cirrus sac and egg shell. The possible functional significance of each enzyme has been discussed.  相似文献

Summary In the present paper, a histochemical study of the localization of adenosine triphosphatase and 5-nucleotidase in fixed frozen sections of rat olfactory bulb has been carried out by Wachstein and Meisel's method. The structures showing positive reaction are the neurons and blood vessels. The neurons show a wide range of variation of reaction in both intensity as well as distribution. The nucleolus shows an intense and variable reaction and the significance of these have been discussed. The reaction in the cytoplasm is diffuse when it is mild but tends to concentrate toward the cell wall as the intensity increases. It is suggested that the nucleolus may play an important role in the synthesis of the enzymes which can take part in providing the energy needed for the molecular transport concerned with the coduction of nerve impulses.  相似文献

The effect of carbon tetrachloride on the liver of Heteropneustes fossilis was investigated in relation to the activity of phosphatases. 3 h after intraperitoneal injection, the liver showed binucleate cells, balloon cells and necrosis. The cell membrane of the hepatocytes around the biliary canaliculi is ruptured at a few places and the cellular exudates are accumulated in the canaliculi. The nucleus is enlarged and becomes pycnotic. Intense alkaline and acid phosphatase activity is observed along the cell membrane, around the nucleus and nucleolus. 5 h after injection, the liver cell membrane is ruptured and cirrhosis results. The cell volume is decreased and the contents of the cell are accumulated at a few places. The nucleus is fragmented. Strong phosphatase activity is seen throughout the cells, especially around the nucleus and cell membrane.  相似文献

Transfer RNA was analyzed qualitatively as well as quantitatively from ovaries of the fresh water teleostHeteropneustes fossilis for twelve months. The tRNA samples were found to be pure and devoid of any high molecular weight RNA or DNA contaminations. The quantity of tRNA as well as its biological activity, assayed byin vitro aminoacylation using homologous aminoacyl tRNA synthetases, were found to be higher during resting and preparatory (pre-vitellogenic) phases, i.e. from November to March, as compared to vitellogenic and spawning phases of the fish, i.e. from April to October. The highest tRNA pool and its activity was found in the month of February, which coincides with the early preparatory phase. The results indicate that the accumulation of active tRNA starts in the resting phase. Such an accumulation of tRNA may be a part of the enrichment of mature eggs with complete translational machinery before ovulation in order to cope with the high rate of protein synthesis after fertilization.Abbreviations aaRS aminoacyl tRNA synthetase - [14C] APH [14C]-algal protein hydrolysate - ATP adenosine triphosphate - DTT dithiothreitol - EDTA ethylene diamine tetra acetic acid - GSI gonado somatic index - TCA trichloroacetic acid - tRNA transfer RNA  相似文献

The nephrons of carp (Cyprinus carpio) and goldfish (Carassius auratus) were examined histologically and also histochemically for enzymes. In both species the distal and collecting tubules have much wider lumens than do the other renal tubules; thus urine probably flows more slowly in these larger tubules. Enzyme histochemistry shows that epithelium of the neck and proximal and intermediate tubules respires anaerobically, whereas that of the distal and collecting tubules respires aerobically. The distribution of Na-K-ATPase in the distal and collecting tubules indicates that they also transport sodium actively. The slow flow of urine and the energy produced by aerobic metabolism probably increase the efficiency of active transport.  相似文献
