Omega-3 fatty acids are essential fatty acids for human health. Therefore, increasing both percentage of omega-3 and a better fatty acid profile in fish fillets is one of the breeding goals in aquaculture. However, it is difficult to increase the omega-3 content in fish fillets, as the phenotypic selection of these traits is not easily feasible. To facilitate the genetic improvement of the Asian seabass for optimal fatty acid profiles, a genome-wide scan for quantitative trait loci (QTL) affecting fatty acid level in the flesh of the Asian seabass was performed on an F2 family containing 314 offspring. All family members were genotyped using 123 informative microsatellites and 22 SNPs. High percentages of n-3 polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA), especially C22:6 (DHA 16.48?±?3.09 %) and C20:5 (EPA 7.19?±?0.86 %) were detected in the flesh. One significant and 54 suggestive QTL for different fatty acids and a water content trait were detected on the whole genome. QTL for C18:0b was located on linkage groups (LG) 5. QTL for total n-3 PUFA content in flesh were mapped onto LG6 and LG23 with the phenotypic variance explained ranging from 3.8 to 6.3 %. Four QTL for C22:6 were detected on LG6, LG23, and LG24, explaining 3.9 to 4.9 % of the phenotypic variance, respectively. Mapping of QTL for contents of different fatty acids is the first step towards improving the omega-3 content in the fillets of fish by using marker-assisted selection and is important for understanding the biology of fatty acid deposition.  相似文献

The high cost and unpredictable availability of fish meal and fish oil (FO) forced feed mill companies to look for alternative ingredients for aquafeeds. In this study, the effects of alternative dietary lipid sources [FO as control, canola oil (CO), oleine oil (OO), poultry fat (PF) and pork lard (PL)] in trout feed on flavour volatile compounds occurring in brown trout (Salmo trutta L.) fillet were evaluated after 70 days of feeding (rearing temperature 14.6°C). Total amounts of volatile compounds identified were higher for fillets of fish fed diets containing only FO as lipid sources. Total amount of alcohols and aldehydes of the fillets were linearly directly related to the percentage content of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) n‐3 of brown trout flesh. The use of alternative dietary lipid sources, modifying the fillet fatty acids composition, affect the total amount of volatile compounds and, changing the relative amount of each volatile compound, affect the flavour of the fish flesh.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to determine some of the trace mineral elements in four commercial feeds commonly available in Turkey for marine culture and in fillets of cultured and wild sea bass (Dicentrarchus labrax) and sea bream (Sparus aurata). The feeds and cultured fish were from four different fish farms operating in the same region but with four slightly different feeds. Concentrations of Iron (Fe), Zinc (Zn), Manganese (Mn), Copper (Cu), Lead (Pb), Cobalt (Co), Nickel (Ni), Chromium (Cr), and Cadmium (Cd) were analyzed in the feeds and fillets of cultured as well as wild fish. Significant differences in the mineral concentrations existed within feed groups, cultured fish groups as well as between cultured and wild fish. Fe, Zn, and Mn in the feeds, Fe, Co, and Zn in sea bass and Fe, Zn and Co in sea bream were predominant among the nine analyzed minerals. Fe, Zn, Mn, Cr, and Ni contents in the fillets of wild sea bass were significantly, (P < 0.05) lower than those of the cultured sea bass groups. Co, Cr, Pb, and Ni in the fillets of wild sea bream were also significantly (P < 0.05) lower than those of cultured sea bream groups. These differences in trace elements in the cultured and wild fish were probably related to differences in their dietary mineral concentrations.  相似文献

The objective of the study was to find a cost-effective feed from three commercial feeds, namely, Arasco (Saudi Arabia), Skretting (Turkey), and Biomar (Greece) for commercially producing silver black porgy (sobaity bream), Sparidentex hasta in Kuwait. For confidentiality, these feeds were randomly given code names, diets 1, 2, and 3, which were known only to the investigating staffs. The trash fish (diet 4) was used as the control. The experiment was conducted for 28 wk with grow-out sobaity bream (210.0 ± 0.51 g) using a flow-through system consisting of twelve 1-m3 tanks. There were three replicates for each treatment. Fish were fed two times daily at satiation level. The results showed that fish fed diet 2 resulted in significantly (P > 0.05) better growth performance, feed utilization, and higher fillet eicosapentaenoic acid (EPA) and docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) content compared to other diets. A comparison of fillet quality of cultured and wild sobaity bream showed no significant (P > 0.05) difference between sensory attributes, except that of ‘flavor’ in cooked fillets of wild sobaity bream. A simple economic analysis showed that the cost per kilogram of fish production was significantly (P > 0.05) the lowest in diet 2 (USD4.13), followed by diet 1 (USD5.70), diet 4 (USD6.33), and diet 3 (USD6.92). Thus, based on growth performance, feed utilization, cost of production, and nutritional quality of fillet, it is concluded that diet 2 may be recommended for commercial culture of sobaity bream in Kuwait. However, future research should focus on how to improve fillet quality of the cultured fish at par with wild fish by manipulating the feed formulation.  相似文献

Camel and cow manures were evaluated as dietary components in pelleted feed for male tilapia over a 12 week period. Seven isonitrogenous (35% crude protein) and isocaloric (4·00 kcal/g gross energy) diets were prepared. Each manure was included in the diets at 10, 20 and 30%. A control diet containing neither of the two manures was used. The best survival rate, growth performance and feed utilization efficiency values were achieved by the control diet. Diets containing 10 or 20% camel manure or 10% cow manure gave relatively good results. Higher inclusions of the two manures significantly (P < 0·05) suppressed growth. It is recommended that camel and cow manures could be included in pelleted feeds of tilapia at levels of up to 20 and 10% respectively.  相似文献

The fat content and fillet yield of common carp ( Cyprinus carpio ) from three carp farms were investigated with respect to pond management and overall climatic conditions. The mean fat content of the trimmed fillet varied from 2.7 to 6.9% and differed significantly among the three facilities (P < 0.001). It is suggested that differences in the fillet fat content may be based on the climatic conditions as well as the different management strategies (feeding, stocking biomass). The mean fillet yield was calculated as 34.0–39.0%. No significant correlation between fish weight and fillet yield (ρ = −0.16) was found. Results suggest that producing smaller fish for fillets of serving size may lead to a higher production and conclude with lower production risks and costs.  相似文献

Improvement of fillet traits and flesh quality attributes are of great interest in farmed tilapia and other aquaculture species. The main objective of this study was to estimate genetic parameters for fillet traits (fillet weight and fillet yield) and the fat content of fillets from 1136 males combined with 2585 data records on growth traits (body weight at 290 days, weight at slaughter, and daily weight gain) of 1485 males and 1100 females from a third generation of the Aquaamerica tilapia strain. Different models were tested for each trait, and the best models were used to estimate genetic parameters for the fat content, fillet, and growth traits. Genetic and phenotypic correlations were estimated using two-trait animal models. The heritability estimates were moderate for the fat content of fillets and fillet yield (0.2–0.32) and slightly higher for body weight at slaughter (0.41). The genetic correlation between fillet yield and fat was significant (0.6), but the genetic correlations were not significant between body weight and fillet yield, body weight and fat content, daily weight gain and fillet yield, and daily weight gain and fat content (? 0.032, ? 0.1, ? 0.09, and ? 0.4, respectively). Based on the genetic correlation estimates, it is unlikely that changes in fillet yield and fat content will occur when using growth performance as a selection criterion, but indirect changes may be expected in fat content if selecting for higher fillet yield.  相似文献

In aquaculture species, maintaining pedigree information and genetic variation in each generation is essential, but very difficult. In this study, we used nine microsatellites to genotype 2,520 offspring from four independent full-factorial crosses (10 males ×10 females) of Asian seabass to reconstruct pedigree and monitor the change of genetic variations. In all four crosses, over 96.8% of the offspring could be assigned to their parents, indicating the high power of the nine microsatellites for parentage assignment. This study revealed several interesting results: (1). In all four crosses, the contribution of parents to offspring was significantly uneven, and some dominant breeding fishes (i.e. brooders) were found; (2). In two mass crosses where the brooders were carefully checked for reproductive status, a majority (≥90%) of brooders contributed to offspring, whereas in another two crosses, where the brooders were randomly picked without checking reproductive status, only a few brooders (40.0–45.0%) produced offspring; (3). Females had more problems in successful spawning compared to males; and (4). In the two crosses where a few brooders produced offspring, there was a substantial loss in allelic (24.1–34.3%) and gene (20.5–25.7%) diversities in offspring, while in the other two crosses, the majority of allelic (96.8–97.0%) and gene diversities (94.8–97.1%) were maintained. These observations suggest that a routine molecular parentage analysis is required to maintain both allelic and gene diversity in breeding Asian seabass.  相似文献

Recent studies suggest that the use of vegetable oils at expense of fish oil in aquaculture feeds might have potential negative effects on fish redox homeostasis and adiposity. Resveratrol (RESV) is a lipid-soluble phytoalexin present in fruits and vegetables with proven in vivo antioxidant function in animals. The present study aims to assess the potential use of RESV in Atlantic salmon feeds. To this end, post-smolt salmons with an initial BW of 148±3 g were fed four experimental diets for 15 weeks. A diet low in fish oil served as a control and was supplemented with 0, 0.5, 1.5 and 2.5 g/kg of RESV, respectively. The effect of the experimental diets on animal performance, tissue fatty acid composition, and the expression of genes encoding proteins involved in antioxidant signalling, lipid peroxidation, and metabolism were studied. Resveratrol significantly reduced feed intake and final BW of the salmon. Feeding RESV did not affect the sum of saturated and monounsaturated fatty acids or total lipids in the fillet. While the content of total polyunsaturated fatty acids was not affected, the percentages of some fatty acids in the liver and fillet were changed by RESV. Furthermore, in liver, the relative expression of glutathione peroxidase 4b, nuclear factor-like 2, and arachidonate 5-lipoxygenase remained unchanged across treatment groups. In conclusion, the negative impact of dietary RESV on FI and hence reduction of the BW discourages its inclusion in low fish oil diets for Atlantic salmon.  相似文献

The aim of the study was to determine the effect of diet on the fatty acids composition of cultured northern pike (Esox lucius) fillet (mean body weight, 620 g; age, 2.5 years; commercial feed) profiles when compared with wild pike caught in Lake Dga? Wielki in northern Poland (mean body weight, 570 g; age 3.5 years). Cultured pike fillets contained several times more fat (2.40%) compared with wild fish (0.19%, P < 0.01). The total relative quantity of saturated fatty acids (SFA; % of total fatty acids) and unsaturated fatty acids (USFA) in cultured and wild pike were similar. Monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA) and polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA) content differed in wild and cultured fish. Cultured pike contained nearly two times more MUFA (30.90% compared with 15.97%; P < 0.01) but less PUFA (42.04% compared with 58.33%; P < 0.01), n‐3 PUFA (32.42% compared with 41.26%; P < 0.01), and n‐6 PUFA (6.47% compared with 15.79%; P < 0.01). The largest differences were noted with regard to docosahexaenoic acid (DHA) and arachidonic acid (AA), the levels of which in cultured and wild pike were 18.93% vs 27.96% and 0.73% vs 8.60%, respectively (P < 0.01). Quality compositions of the commercial feed and the cultured pike fillets were identical.  相似文献

The body of most fishes is fully covered by scales that typically form tight, partially overlapping rows. While some of the genes controlling the formation and growth of fish scales have been studied, very little is known about the genetic mechanisms regulating scale pattern formation. Although the existence of two genes with two pairs of alleles (S&s and N&n) regulating scale coverage in cyprinids has been predicted by Kirpichnikov and colleagues nearly eighty years ago, their identity was unknown until recently. In 2009, the ‘S’ gene was found to be a paralog of fibroblast growth factor receptor 1, fgfr1a1, while the second gene called ‘N’ has not yet been identified. We re-visited the original model of Kirpichnikov that proposed four major scale pattern types and observed a high degree of variation within the so-called scattered phenotype due to which this group was divided into two sub-types: classical mirror and irregular. We also analyzed the survival rates of offspring groups and found a distinct difference between Asian and European crosses. Whereas nude × nude crosses involving at least one parent of Asian origin or hybrid with Asian parent(s) showed the 25% early lethality predicted by Kirpichnikov (due to the lethality of the NN genotype), those with two Hungarian nude parents did not. We further extended Kirpichnikov''s work by correlating changes in phenotype (scale-pattern) to the deformations of fins and losses of pharyngeal teeth. We observed phenotypic changes which were not restricted to nudes, as described by Kirpichnikov, but were also present in mirrors (and presumably in linears as well; not analyzed in detail here). We propose that the gradation of phenotypes observed within the scattered group is caused by a gradually decreasing level of signaling (a dose-dependent effect) probably due to a concerted action of multiple pathways involved in scale formation.  相似文献

This study compared the body composition (fillet yield, chemical composition and lipid quality of fillets) and sensory quality of captured wild (by gillnet in August 2011) with experimentally raised farmed (reared in concrete flow‐through raceways, average water temperature 10 ± 3°C) whitefish, Coregonus macrophthalmus, from Lake Constance. The study was conducted in 2011 using 28 wild and 24 farmed market‐sized fish of approximately equal total lengths (25.1 ± 1.21 and 25.6 ± 1.28 cm). Farmed female Coregonus macrophthalmus exhibited a 3.3% lower fillet yield resulting from larger gonads and a shallower body shape. The protein contents of farmed and wild fillets were equal (17.5% vs. 17.4%), but farmed fish fillets contained less moisture (76.1% vs.77.4%), less ash (1.2% vs. 1.6%), and more lipid (5.1% vs. 4.1%) than wild‐caught specimens. Levels of monounsaturated fatty acids (MUFA) were higher in farmed fish (42.0 vs. 31.0 g/100 g lipid), as well as the levels of polyunsaturated fatty acids (PUFA; 26.0 vs. 19.7 g/100 g lipid), in particular 22:6n?3 (docosahexaenoic acid, DHA; 7.3 vs. 2.1 g/100 g lipid). Conversely, wild fish fillets contained significantly more 20:4n?6 (arachidonic acid, AA; 1.6 vs. 0.4 g/100 g lipid) and 20:5n?3 (eicosapentaenoic acid, EPA; 4.1 vs. 3.2 g/100 g lipid). Sensory evaluation of odour, colour, texture and flavour by an experienced six‐person panel revealed a significant preference for the colour (79% vs. 21%) of farmed fish fillets. In conclusion, farmed whitefish can be strong competitors to wild whitefish in terms of product quality, with higher levels of healthy fatty acids and a more attractive fillet colour. Farmed Coregonus macrophthalmus thus represents a promising and pragmatic approach, compensating for the current capture decline in the whitefish fisheries of Lake Constance.  相似文献

Experimental comparisons of the nutritional value of different wheat cultivars commonly use feeds in meal form even though the large-scale broiler producers use steam pelleted feeds. The aim of this experiment was to examine the effect of steam pelleting on the performance, dietary N-corrected apparent metabolisable energy (AMEn), total tract dry matter retention (DMR), nitrogen retention (NR) and fat digestibility (FD) coefficients, and digestive tract development of broilers fed four different wheat samples in complete diets. Four European wheat samples, with different chemical composition and endosperm characteristics, were used in a broiler experiment. The wheat samples were milled through a 5 mm screen and four basal feeds containing 670 g/kg of each selected wheat sample were mixed. The basal feeds were then split into two batches and one of them was steam pelleted resulting in eight experimental diets. Each diet was fed ad libitum to eight pens of two male Ross 308 broilers from 10 to 24 days of age. Feeding pelleted diets improved (P<0.001) feed intake and weight gain, and daily water intake of the birds. Pelleting also improved dietary AMEn and FD (P<0.001) and DMR (P<0.05). An interaction (P<0.05) was observed between wheat samples and steam pelleting for NR. Steam pelleting improved (P<0.05) NR in the wheat sample with high starch and protein and hard endosperm but not in the rest of the wheat samples. Similar interactions (P<0.05) were also observed between wheat sample and steam pelleting for gain to feed (G : F) and water to feed (W : F) ratios. Pelleting improved G : F ratio the greatest in the wheat sample with high starch and protein and hard endosperm. Feeding the same wheat sample also decreased (P<0.05) W : F but only in the mash diets. Regardless of the wheat sample the values of dietary AMEn did not differ (P>0.05). Feeding different wheat types and pelleting did not (P>0.05) change the development of the gastrointestinal tract of the birds. The study showed that there were differences between four wheat samples when they were fed in pelleted complete feed, but no differences were observed when fed in mash form complete diets. Research on the interaction between pelleting and wheat chemical and quality characteristics is warranted.  相似文献

Fillet yield and chemical composition were evaluated in small, medium and large (about 150, 350 and 700 g, respectively) size classes of sunshine bass ( Morone chrysops ♀ ×  Morone saxatilis ♂) fed high-energy diets. Fish size had a major effect on the fillet yield, which was significantly higher (38.8 vs. 33.4–34.6%) in fish belonging to the medium-size class. The lipid contents of both whole and skinned fillets were higher than those reported in the literature, ranging from 7.8 to 10.6% in whole fillets and from 5.9 to 7.6% in skinned fillets, thereby allowing classification of sunshine bass fed high-energy diets as a medium-fat fish. A significant effect of fish size on lipid content was found only for whole fillets, therefore indicating that dietary energy excess in larger fish is mainly stored as subdermal fat. The dietary fatty acid profile was found to be the major determinant of edible muscle lipid composition in all size-classes considered. The cholesterol content of muscle tissue ranged from 23 to 29 mg/100 g tissue.  相似文献

Dairy cows are commonly fed compound feed concentrates, whose accurate formulation relies on the additivity of ruminal degradation characteristics of single feeds, and the absence of associative effects. The main aim of this study was to evaluate the additivity of single feeds in compound feeds made thereof. Twelve single feeds were used to produce eight compound feeds in mash and pelleted form. Samples of single and compound feeds were incubated in situ in three ruminally fistulated dairy cows, and effective ruminal degradation (ED) of CP and starch (ST) was computed. The ED values of examined compound feeds could be, in most cases, accurately calculated from ED values of single feeds. Observed EDCP values were significantly lower than that calculated, but differences were overall small and not exceeded 5% points. No significant differences were observed between calculated and observed EDST. The study also examined the effects of pelleting of compound feeds on in situ degradation. Pelleting significantly increased EDCP (up to 8% points), and EDST (up to 4% points) of most compound feeds. This could have been caused by the pelleting process increasing the proportion of fine feed particles with fast disappearance from the bags. It was concluded that small associative effects between the examined single feeds could be disregarded when formulating compound feeds for dairy cows, and that additivity of EDCP and EDST can be assumed in most cases.  相似文献

Heart and Skeletal Muscle Inflammation (HSMI), recently associated with a novel Atlantic salmon reovirus (ASRV), is currently one of the most prevalent inflammatory diseases in commercial Atlantic salmon farms in Norway. Mortality varies from low to 20%, but morbidity can be very high, reducing growth performance and causing considerable financial impact. Clinical symptoms, including myocarditis, myocardial and red skeletal muscle necrosis, correlate with the intensity of the inflammatory response. In the present study, the effects of two functional feeds (FF1 and FF2) were compared to a standard commercial reference feed (ST) in Atlantic salmon subjected to an ASRV challenge. The functional feeds had reduced levels of total lipid and digestible energy, and different levels and proportions of long-chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LC-PUFA). The objective was to determine whether these feeds could provide effective protection by decreasing the inflammatory response associated with HSMI. Histopathology, viral load, fatty acid composition and gene expression of heart tissue were assessed over a period of 16 weeks post-infection with ASRV. The viral load and histopathology scores in heart tissue in response to ASRV infection were reduced in fish fed both functional feeds, with FF1 showing the greatest effect. Microarray hierarchical cluster analysis showed that the functional feeds greatly affected expression of inflammation/immune related genes over the course of the ASRV infection. Viral load correlated with up-regulation of pro-inflammatory genes at the early-mid stages of infection in fish fed the ST diet. Expression of inflammatory genes 16-weeks after ASRV challenge reflected the difference in efficacy between the functional feeds, with fish fed FF1 showing lower expression. Thus, severity of the lesions in heart tissue correlated with the intensity of the innate immune response and was associated with tissue fatty acid compositions. The present study demonstrated that dietary modulation through clinical nutrition had major influences on the development and severity of the response to ASRV infection in salmon. Thus, HSMI was reduced in fish fed the functional feeds, particularly FF1. The modulation of gene expression between fish fed the different feeds provided further insight into the molecular mechanisms and progression of the inflammatory and immune responses to ASRV infection in salmon.  相似文献
