Aim

To study the influence of segment width on plan quality for volumetric modulated arc based stereotactic body radiotherapy.

Background

The redundancy of modulation for regularly shaped small volume tumors results in creation of many small segments and an increase of monitor units, with a consequent prolongation of treatment and uncertainty in treatment delivery.

Materials and methods

Six cases each in lung, abdomen and liver were taken for the study. For each case, three VMAT SBRT plans were generated with different penalties on minimum segment width of 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 cm. A comparison was made on the metrics of dose volume histogram, dosimetric indices, monitor units (MUs) and delivery accuracy.

Results

The mean reduction of total MUs when compared with 0.5 cm plan was observed as 12.7 ± 6.0% and 17.5 ± 7.2% for 1.0 cm and 1.5 cm of minimum segment width, respectively. The p value showed a significant degradation in dosimetric indices for 1.5 cm plans when compared with 0.5 cm and 1.0 cm plans. The average deviation of measured dose with TPS calculated was 3.0 ± 1.1%, 2.1 ± 0.84% and 1.8 ± 0.9% for 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 cm, respectively. The calculated gamma index with pass criteria of 2% dose difference and 2 mm distance to agreement was 95.9 ± 2.8%, 96.5 ± 2.6% and 97.8 ± 1.6% as calculated for 0.5, 1.0 and 1.5 cm of penalties, respectively. In view of the trade off between delivery efficiency and plan quality, 1 cm minimum segment width plans showed an improvement.

Conclusions

VMAT SBRT plans with increased optimal value of minimum segment width showed better plan quality and delivery efficiency for stereotactic body radiotherapy.  相似文献

PurposeTo assess the dosimetric impact of a patient positioning device for prone breast radiotherapy and assess the accuracy of a treatment planning system (TPS) in predicting this impact.MethodsBeam attenuation and build-up dose perturbations, quantified by ionization chamber and radiochromic film dosimetry, were evaluated for 3 components of the patient positioning device: the carbon fiber baseplate, the support cushions and the support wedge for the contralateral breast. Dose calculations were performed using the XVMC dose engine implemented in the Monaco TPS. All components were included during planning CT acquisition.ResultsBeam attenuation amounted to 7.57% (6 MV) and 5.33% (15 MV) for beams obliquely intersecting the couchtop–baseplate combination. Beams traversing large sections of the support wedge were attenuated by 12.28% (6 MV) and 9.37% (15 MV). For the support cushion foam, beam attenuation remained limited to 0.11% (6 MV) and 0.08% (15 MV) per centimeter thickness. A substantial loss of dose build-up was detected when irradiating through any of the investigated components. TPS dose calculations accurately predicted beam attenuation by the baseplate and support wedge. A manual density overwrite was needed to model attenuation by the support cushion foam. TPS dose calculations in build-up regions differed considerably from measurements for both open beams and beams traversing the device components.ConclusionsIrradiating through the components of the positioning device resulted in a considerable degradation of skin sparing. Inclusion of the device components in the treatment planning CT allowed to accurately model the most important attenuation effect, but failed to accurately predict build-up doses.  相似文献

BackgroundHere we aimed to evaluate the respiratory and cardiac-induced motion of a ICD lead used as surrogate in the heart during stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) of ventricular tachycardia (VT). Data provides insight regarding motion and motion variations during treatment.Materials and methodsWe analyzed the log files of surrogate motion during SBRT of ventricular tachycardia performed in 20 patients. Evaluated parameters included the ICD lead motion amplitudes; intrafraction amplitude variability; correlation error between the ICD lead and external markers; and margin expansion in the superior-inferior (SI), latero-lateral (LL), and anterior-posterior (AP) directions to cover 90% or 95% of all amplitudes.ResultsIn the SI, LL, and AP directions, respectively, the mean motion amplitudes were 5.0 ± 2.6, 3.4. ± 1.9, and 3.1 ± 1.6 mm. The mean intrafraction amplitude variability was 2.6 ± 0.9, 1.9 ± 1.3, and 1.6 ± 0.8 mm in the SI, LL, and AP directions, respectively. The margins required to cover 95% of ICD lead motion amplitudes were 9.5, 6.7, and 5.5 mm in the SI, LL, and AP directions, respectively. The mean correlation error was 2.2 ± 0.9 mm.ConclusionsData from online tracking indicated motion irregularities and correlation errors, necessitating an increased CTV-PTV margin of 3 mm. In 35% of cases, the motion variability exceeded 3 mm in one or more directions. We recommend verifying the correlation between CTV and surrogate individually for every patient, especially for targets with posterobasal localization where we observed the highest difference between the lead and CTV motion.  相似文献

BackgroundThe purpose of this study was to compare four 3D conformal radiation techniques in treatment of left breast cancer patients.Materials and methodsRadiation was planned for 20 patients to the left breast and regional lymph nodes using four techniques: partially wide tangents, photon-photon mix, photon-electron mix and 30/70 photon-electron mix. All plans were evaluated for internal mammary nodes (IMN) coverage, hotspot and normal tissue constraints.ResultThe 85% of planning target volume (PTV) coverage was lesser for upper IMN than the lower IMN (below the lower border of the clavicular head) for all four techniques. The lower IMN coverage was better for partially wide tangent (80.46%) and photon-photon mix (88.88%). The lowest value of hotspot was seen in the partially wide tangent technique (112.69% ± 1.92). Hotspot is unacceptably high in both photon-electron mix and 30/70 photon-electron mix (> 120%). Left lung mean dose for all techniques on a pair-wise comparison showed no statistical difference. Left lung V20 values for partially wide tangent was 37.56% ± 8.17 and for photon-photon mix it was 40.49% ± 3.36. The mean heart dose with partially wide tangent was 9.43 ± 3.15 Gy and with photon-photon mix it was 10.10 ± 2.70 Gy. The mean heart dose for photon-electron mix was 7.56 ± 1.95 Gy and for 30/70 photon-electron mix it was 7.98 ± 2.16 Gy.ConclusionNo single technique satisfies all the criteria. The decision should be made on a case-by-case basis, considering the anatomy of the patient, availability of electron facilities and setup accuracy and reproducibility.  相似文献

BackgroundThe purpose of this study was to describe the use of the VIPER software for patient-specific quality assurance (PSQA) of single-isocenter multitarget (SIMT) stereotactic radiosurgery (SRS) plans.Materials and methodsTwenty clinical of intensity-modulated (IMRT) SIMT SRS plans were reviewed. A total of 88 brain metastases were included. Number of lesions per plan and their individual volumes ranged from 2 to 35 and from 0.03 to 32.8 cm3, respectively. Plans were designed with the Eclipse system, and delivered using a Varian CLINAC linac. SRS technique consisted of non-coplanar static-field sliding-window IMRT. Each plan was mapped onto a virtual cylindrical water phantom (VCP) in the Eclipse to calculate a 3D dose distribution (verification plan). The VIPER software reconstructed the 3D dose distribution inside the VCP from the acquired in-air electronic portal image device (EPID) images of the treatment fields. A 3D gamma analysis was used to compare the reconstructed doses to the Eclipse planned doses on the VCP. Gamma passing rates (GPRs) were calculated using 3% global/2 mm criteria and dose thresholds ranged from 10% to 90% of the maximum dose.ResultsThe averages (± 1 SD) of the 3D GPRs over the 20 SRS plans were: 99.9 ± 0.2%, 99.7 ± 0.3%, 99.6 ± 0.5%, 99.3 ± 0.9%,99.1 ± 1.6%, 99.0 ± 1.6%, and 98.5 ± 3.3%, for dose thresholds of 10%, 20%, 30%, 50%, 70%, 80% and 90% respectively.ConclusionsThis work shows the feasibility of the VIPER software for PSQA of SIMT SRS plans, being a reliable alternative to commercially available 2D detector arrays.  相似文献

BackgroundThe purpose of this study was to investigate the feasibility of MOSFET dosimeter in measuring eye dose during 2D MV portal imaging for setup verification in radiotherapy.Materials and methodsThe in-vivo dose measurements were performed by placing the dosimeters over the eyes of 30 brain patients during the acquisition of portal images in linear accelerator by delivering 1 MU with the field sizes of 10 × 10 cm2 and 15 × 15 cm2.ResultsThe mean doses received by the left and right eyes of 10 out of 30 patients when both eyes were completely inside the anterior portal field were found to be 2.56 ± 0.2 cGy and 2.75 ± 0.2, respectively. Similarly, for next 10 patients out of the same 30 patients the mean doses to left and right eyes when both eyes were completely out of the anterior portal fields were found to be 0.13 ± 0.02 cGy and 0.17 ± 0.02 cGy, respectively. The mean doses to ipsilateral and contralateral eye for the last 10 patients when one eye was inside the anterior portal field were found to be 3.28 ± 0.2 cGy and 0.36 ± 0.1 cGy, respectively.ConclusionThe promising results obtained during 2D MV portal imaging using MOSFET have shown that this dosimeter is well suitable for assessing low doses during imaging thereby enabling to optimize the imaging procedure using the dosimetric data obtained. In addition, the documentation of the dose received by the patient during imaging procedure is possible with the help of an in-built software in conjunction with the MOSFET reader module.  相似文献

BackgroundThe dosimetric characterization of volumetric modulated arc therapy (VMAT)-based total-body irradiation (TBI) in pediatric patients is evaluated.Materials and methodsTwenty-two patients between the ages of 2 and 12 years were enrolled for VMAT-based TBI from 2018 to 2020. Three isocenters were irradiated over three overlapping arcs. While prescribing 90% of the TBI dose to the planning treatment volume (PTV), two fractions (2 Gy each) were delivered each day; hence 12 Gy was delivered in six fractions. During treatment optimization, the mean lung and kidney doses were set not to exceed 7 Gy and 7.5 Gy, respectively. The maximum lens dose was also set to less than 4 Gy. Patient quality assurance was carried out by comparing treatment planning system doses to the 3-dimensional measured doses by the ArcCHECK® detector. The electronic portal imaging device (EPID) gamma indices were also obtained.ResultsThe average mean lung dose was 7.75 ± 0.18 Gy, mean kidney dose 7.63 ± 0.26 Gy, maximum lens dose 4.41 ± 0.39 Gy, and the mean PTV dose 12.69 ± 0.16 Gy. The average PTV heterogeneity index was 1.15 ± 0.03. Average differences in mean kidney dose, mean lung dose, and mean target dose were 2.79% ± 0.88, 0.84% ± 0.45 and 0.93% ± 0.47, respectively; when comparing planned and ArcCHECK® measured doses. Only grade 1–2 radiation toxicities were recorded, based on CTCAE v5.0 scoring criteria.ConclusionsVMAT-TBI was characterized with good PTV coverage, homogeneous dose distribution, planned and measured dose agreement, and low toxicity.  相似文献

Physicians considering stereotactic ablative body radiation therapy (SBRT) for the treatment of extracranial cancer targets must be aware of the sizeable risks for normal tissue injury and the hazards of physical tumor miss. A first-of-its-kind SBRT platform achieves high-precision ablative radiation treatment through a combination of versatile real-time imaging solutions and sophisticated tumor tracking capabilities. It uses dual-diagnostic kV x-ray units for stereoscopic open-loop feedback of cancer target intrafraction movement occurring as a consequence of respiratory motions and heartbeat. Image-guided feedback drives a gimbaled radiation accelerator (maximum 15 x 15 cm field size) capable of real-time ±4 cm pan-and-tilt action. Robot-driven ±60° pivots of an integrated ±185° rotational gantry allow for coplanar and non-coplanar accelerator beam set-up angles, ultimately permitting unique treatment degrees of freedom. State-of-the-art software aids real-time six dimensional positioning, ensuring irradiation of cancer targets with sub-millimeter accuracy (0.4 mm at isocenter). Use of these features enables treating physicians to steer radiation dose to cancer tumor targets while simultaneously reducing radiation dose to normal tissues. By adding respiration correlated computed tomography (CT) and 2-[18F] fluoro-2-deoxy-ᴅ-glucose (18F-FDG) positron emission tomography (PET) images into the planning system for enhanced tumor target contouring, the likelihood of physical tumor miss becomes substantially less1. BackgroundLeft bundle branch (LBB) pacing is a novel pacing technique which may serve as an alternative to both right ventricular pacing for symptomatic bradycardia and cardiac resynchronisation therapy (CRT). A substantial amount of data is reported by relatively few, highly experienced centres. This study describes the first experience of LBB pacing in a high-volume device centre.MethodsSuccess rates (i.e. the ability to achieve LBB pacing), electrophysiological parameters and complications at implant and up to 6 months of follow-up were prospectively assessed in 100 consecutive patients referred for various pacing indications.ResultsThe mean age was 71 ± 11 years and 65% were male. Primary pacing indication was atrioventricular (AV) block in 40%, CRT in 42%, and sinus node dysfunction or refractory atrial fibrillation prior to AV node ablation in 9% each. Baseline left ventricular ejection fraction was < 50% in 57% of patients, mean baseline QRS duration 145 ± 34 ms. Overall LBB pacing was successful in 83 of 100 (83%) patients but tended to be lower in patients with CRT pacing indication (69%, p = ns). Mean left ventricular activation time (LVAT) during LBB pacing was 81 ms and paced QRS duration was 120 ± 19 ms. LBB capture threshold and R‑wave sense at implant was 0.74 ± 0.4 mV at 0.4 ms and 11.9 ± 5.9 V and remained stable at 6‑month follow-up. No complications occurred during implant or follow-up.ConclusionLBB pacing for bradycardia pacing and resynchronisation therapy can be easily adopted by experienced implanters, with favourable success rates and safety profile.  相似文献

IntroductionJuvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) is a frequent childhood rheumatic disease characterized by chronic inflammation. The latter has been related to impairment of arterial functional-structural properties, atherogenesis and later cardiovascular events. The objective of this study was to examine intima-media thickness (IMT) and the parameters of arterial stiffness in children with JIA at diagnosis and their correlation with JIA subtype and markers of inflammation and atherosclerosis.MethodsThirty-nine newly diagnosed patients with JIA (26 girls; mean age, 13.2 ± 2.6 years) and 27 healthy controls (9 girls; mean age, 13.6 ± 3.4 years) were included in the study. Twelve patients had oligoarthritis, fifteen had extended oligoarthritis and twelve had rheumatoid factor–negative polyarthritis. IMT of the common carotid artery was determined by ultrasonography, carotid-femoral pulse wave velocity (cfPWV) and augmentation index adjusted to a heart rate of 75 beats/min (AIx@75) were determined by applanation tonometry. The serum levels of atherosclerosis-related biomarkers, such as asymmetric dimethylarginine (ADMA), myeloperoxidase (MPO) and adiponectin, were measured by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.ResultsMean IMT (0.46 ± 0.04 vs. 0.42 ± 0.04 mm; p = 0.0003) and MPO concentration (115.2 [95 % confidence interval {95 % CI}, 97.4–136.3] vs. 57.6 [95 % CI, 47.1–70.3] ng/ml; p < 0.0001) were higher in the patients with JIA than in the control subjects. The cfPWV, AIx@75 and serum ADMA and adiponectin levels did not significantly differ between the groups and JIA subtypes. Serum adiponectin level correlated negatively with AIx@75 in patients with JIA (r = −0.38; p < 0.05).ConclusionsPatients with JIA have increased mean IMT and elevated MPO levels at early stages of the disease. AIx@75 was inversely independently associated with adiponectin level in the patients, suggesting that lower adiponectin levels might influence arterial subclinical stiffening in patients with newly diagnosed JIA.  相似文献

In water column and sediment inocula from a nuclear reactor cooling reservoir, natural phytoplankton substrate labeled with 14C was used to determine aerobic and anaerobic mineralization rates for a range of temperatures (25, 40, 55, and 70°C) expected during reactor operation. For experiments that were begun during reactor shutdown, aerobic decomposition occurred at temperatures of <55°C. After 2 months of reactor operation, aerobic rates increased substantially at 55 and 70°C, although maximum rates were observed at temperatures of ≤40°C. The temperature range for which maximum anaerobic mineralization (i.e., the sum of CH4 and CO2) was observed was 25 to 40°C when the reactor was off, expanding to 25 to 55°C during reactor operation. Increased rates at 55°C, but not 70°C, correlated with an increase in the ratio of cumulative methane to carbon dioxide produced over 21 days. When reduced reactor power lowered the maximum temperature of the reservoir to 42°C, aerobic decomposition at 70°C was negligible, but remained substantial at 55°C. Selection for thermophilic decomposers occurred rapidly in this system in both aerobic and anaerobic communities and did not require prolonged exposure to elevated temperatures.  相似文献

BackgroundThe aim of the study was to assess the dosimetric comparison of bone marrow between standard IMRT(SD-IMRT) and bone marrow sparing IMRT (BMS-IMRT) among carcinoma cervix patients who underwent radical or adjuvant chemoradiation in a tertiary cancer center.Materials and methodsForty eligible patients of histo-pathologically proven carcinoma cervix were enrolled in the study that was randomized on a 1:1 basis between SD-IMRT and BMS-IMRT from July 2018 to October 2019. The whole pelvis, bilateral femoral heads, and upper 1/3rd femur were contoured using the whole bone technique as a surrogate marker for the bone marrow. In both arms, V10, V20, and V40, bone marrow was noted along with mean, maximum, minimum dose, and total volume. DVH for the bone marrow in both arms was compared using the unpaired student t-test.ResultsWe found no significant difference in the mean of various parameters in SD-IMRT arm vs. BMS IMRT arm — for the bone marrow: V10 (89 ± 4.3% vs. 86.7 ± 3.7%), V20 (73.2 ± 5.3% vs. 73.1 ± 4.5%), V40 (23.9 ± 5.4% vs. 26.6 ± 7.4%) and, similarly, for mean dose (28.1 ± 3.5% vs. 28.1 ± 1.8%), maximum dose (53.4 ± 0.58% vs. 53.2 ± 0.58%), minimum dose (0.33 ± 0.18% vs. 0.38 ± 0.38%), total volume (961 ± 110 cc vs. 901 ± 152 cc).ConclusionThis study shows no statistically significant difference in dosimetry between the two groups, which suggests that SD-IMRT spares the bone marrow adequately. Therefore, the need for BMS-IMRT using the present contouring technique does not give any added advantage over SD-IMRT. However, large sample size, other novel contouring technique, and multivariate analysis are needed to reach a definite conclusion.  相似文献

PurposeMechanical circulatory support with a continuous-flow left ventricular assist device (LVAD) may be a valuable treatment in end-stage heart failure patients for an extended period of time. The purpose of this study was to evaluate the safety and efficacy of implantation of a continuous-flow LVAD in end-stage heart failure patients within the first destination program in the Netherlands.MethodsA third-generation LVAD was implanted in 16 heart failure patients (age 61 ± 8; 81 % male; left ventricular ejection fraction 20 ± 6 %) as destination therapy. All patients were ineligible for heart transplant. At baseline, 3 and 6 months, New York Heart Association (NYHA) functional class, quality-of-life and exercise capacity were assessed. Clinical adverse events were registered.ResultsSurvival at 30 days and 6 months was 88 and 75 %, respectively. In the postoperative phase, 6 (38 %) patients required continuous veno-venous haemofiltration for renal failure and 2 (13 %) patients required extracorporeal membrane oxygenation because of severe right ventricular failure. During follow-up, NYHA functional class and quality-of-life improved from 3.7 ± 0.1 to 2.3 ± 0.1 and 57 ± 5 to 23 ± 3 at 6 months (P < 0.001), respectively. The 6 min walking distance improved from 168 ± 42 m to 291 ± 29 m at 6 months (P = 0.001).ConclusionContinuous-flow LVAD therapy is a promising treatment for patients with end-stage heart failure ineligible for heart transplant.  相似文献

BackgroundThis study was to observe the non-heme iron absorption and biological utilization from typical whole Chinese diets in young Chinese healthy urban men, and to observe if the iron absorption and utilization could be affected by the staple food patterns of Southern and Northern China.ResultsNon-heme iron intake values overall, and in the rice and steamed buns groups were 12.8 ±2.1, 11.3±1.3 and 14.3±1.5 mg, respectively; the mean 57Fe absorption rates were 11±7%, 13±7%, and 8±4%, respectively; and the mean infused 58Fe utilization rates were 85±8%, 84±6%, and 85±10%, respectively. There was no significantly difference in the iron intakes, and 57Fe absorption and infused 58Fe utilization rates between rice and steamed buns groups (all P>0.05).ConclusionWe present the non-heme iron absorption and utilization rates from typical whole Chinese diets among young Chinese healthy urban men, which was not affected by the representative staple food patterns of Southern and Northern China. This study will provide a basis for the setting of Chinese iron DRIs.  相似文献

Rates of entry and oxidation of a range of metabolites have been measured in tracheostomized sheep (diet, 800g. of lucerne chaff and 100g. of maize/day) by combining isotope-dilution techniques with the continuous measurement of total respiratory gas exchange, and 14CO2 production during the intravenous or intraruminal infusion of 14C-labelled substrates. 2. Mean entry rates in fed and starved (24hr.) sheep respectively, expressed as mg./min./kg. body wt.0·75, were: glucose, 5·0 (range 4·8–5·1, 2 observations) and 3·8 (3·2–4·2, 4); acetate, 10·8 (9·1–13·5, 4) and 5·8 (1); d(−)-β-hydroxybutyrate, 1·4 (1) and 1·5 (0·8–2·4, 4); palmitate, oleate and stearate (starved sheep only) 1·0 (0·6–1·9, 7), 0·9 (0·2–1·6, 10) and 0·9 (0·5–1·1, 11) respectively. 3. Production rates of propionate and butyrate in continuously feeding sheep were 6·4 (4·7–8·3, 4) and 4·3 (3·4–6·1, 4) mg./min./kg.0·75 respectively, and in starved (24hr.) sheep were 2·5 (2·2–2·9, 2) and 1·0 (0·8–1·2, 2) mg./min./kg.0·75 respectively. 4. Calculated terminal values for the specific radioactivity of respiratory 14CO2 during measurements of entry rates and production rates were used to calculate the contributions of individual substrates to overall oxidative metabolism. Mean values for fed and starved sheep respectively were: glucose, 9·1 (8·6–9·6, 2) and 11·2 (5·9–15·1, 4)%; acetate, 31·6 (26·8–38·1, 4) and 22·1 (1)%; d(−)-β-hydroxybutyrate, 10·4 (1) and 4·8 (1·9–7·7, 4)%; propionate, 23·0 (13·8–29·9, 4) and 7·1 (6·8–7·4, 2)%; butyrate, 16·5 (13·7–20·5, 4) and 5·3 (5·2–5·3, 2)%; palmitate, oleate and stearate (starved sheep only), 4·7 (2·0–7·7, 7), 4·0 (1·2–6·6, 10) and 4·4 (3·8–5·8, 9)% respectively. The sum of these values for individual substrates in fed and starved sheep, excluding that of β-hydroxybutyrate and after correction of the glucose value for the known interrelations of this substrate with propionate, accounted for 76% and 58% respectively of total production of carbon dioxide. 5. Calculations based on the proportion of substrate entry directly oxidized indicated that the substrates studied accounted for 63% (fed sheep) and 43% (starved sheep) of total energy expenditure measured by oxygen uptake. The contribution of β-hydroxybutyrate was excluded, and corrections were made for glucose–propionate interrelations, and for the different rates of oxidation of the methyl and carboxyl fragments of acetate. 6. The present results have been combined with those obtained earlier in this Laboratory to examine the relationships between rates of substrate entry and oxidation, and concentrations of substrate in blood. Rates of entry of acetate, glucose, d(−)-β-hydroxybutyrate, palmitate and oleate (but not stearate) were well correlated with concentration in blood, and substrate contribution to production of carbon dioxide showed a similar correlation to blood concentration, except with glucose. 7. BackgroundCardiovascular guidelines recommend (bi-)annual computed tomography (CT) or magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for surveillance of the diameter of thoracic aortic aneurysms (TAAs). However, no previous study has demonstrated the necessity for this approach. The current study aims to provide patient-specific intervals for imaging follow-up of non-syndromic TAAs.MethodsA total of 332 patients with non-syndromic ascending aortic aneurysms were followed over a median period of 6.7 years. Diameters were assessed using all available imaging techniques (echocardiography, CT and MRI). Growth rates were calculated from the differences between the first and last examinations. The diagnostic accuracy of follow-up protocols was calculated as the percentage of subjects requiring pre-emptive surgery in whom timely identification would have occurred.ResultsThe mean growth rate in our population was 0.2 ± 0.4 mm/year. The highest recorded growth rate was 2.0 mm/year, while 40.6% of patients showed no diameter expansion during follow-up. Females exhibited significantly higher growth rates than men (0.3 ± 0.5 vs 0.2 ± 0.4 mm/year, p = 0.007). Conversely, a bicuspid aortic valve was not associated with more rapid aortic growth. The optimal imaging protocol comprises triennial imaging of aneurysms 40–49 mm in diameter and yearly imaging of those measuring 50–54 mm. This strategy is as accurate as annual follow-up, but reduces the number of imaging examinations by 29.9%.ConclusionsIn our population of patients with non-syndromic TAAs, we found aneurysm growth rates to be lower than those previously reported. Yearly imaging does not lead to changes in the management of small aneurysms. Thus, lower imaging frequencies might be a good alternative approach.  相似文献
