Inhibition of photosynthesis was followed during autumn and early winter in current-year sun and shade needles of unfertilized and fertilized Norway spruce [Picea abies (L.) Karst.] by simultaneous measurements of photosynthetic O2 evolution and chlorophyll a fluorescence at 20 °C. The CO2-saturated rate of O2 evolution was generally higher in sun needles of fertilized trees than in those of unfertilized trees over a wide range of incident photon flux densities (PFDs). Furthermore, the maximum photo-chemical efficiency of photosystem (PS) II, as indicated by the ratio of variable to maximum fluorescence (FV/FM) was generally higher for sun needles of fertilized trees. The depression of fv/fm during frost periods was more pronounced in sun needles than in shade needles, indicating that winter inhibition in Norway spruce is strongly light-dependent. However, the inhibition of the rate of O2 evolution at high PFDs in needles of fertilized trees during early winter was partly independent of the light regime experienced by those needles in the field, which appeared to result in a pronounced decrease in the proportion of oxidized PS II reaction centres in shade needles. A nearly identical linear relationship between the quantum yield of PS II electron transport determined by chlorophyll fluorescence and the quantum yield of O2 evolution (gross rate of O2 evolution/PFD) was obtained for the investigated types of needles during autumn and early winter. Except for shade needles of fertilized trees, this appeared to be largely achieved by adjustments in thermal energy dissipation within PS II.  相似文献

Seasonal variability of maximum quantum yield of PSII photochemistry (Fv/Fm) was studied in needles of Taxus baccata seedlings acclimated to full light (HL, 100% solar irradiance), medium light (ML, 18% irradiance) or low light (LL, 5% irradiance). In HL plants, Fv/Fm was below 0.8 (i.e. state of photoinhibition) throughout the whole experimental period from November to May, with the greatest decline in January and February (when Fv/Fm value reached 0.37). In ML seedlings, significant declines of Fv/Fm occurred in January (with the lowest level at 0.666), whereas the decline in LL seedlings (down to 0.750) was not significant. Full recovery of Fv/Fm in HL seedlings was delayed until the end of May, in contrast to ML and LL seedlings. Fv/Fm was significantly correlated with daily mean (T mean), maximal (T max) and minimal (T min) temperature and T min was consistently the best predictor of Fv/Fm in HL and ML needles. Temperature averages obtained over 3 or 5 days prior to measurement were better predictors of Fv/Fm than 1- or 30-day averages. Thus our results indicate a strong light-dependent seasonal photoinhibition in needles of T. baccata as well as suggest a coupling of Fv/Fm to cumulative temperature from several preceding days. The dependence of sustained winter photoinhibition on light level to which the plants are acclimated was further demonstrated when plants from the three light environments were exposed to full daylight over single days in December, February and April and Fv/Fm was followed throughout the day to determine residual sensitivity of electron transport to ambient irradiance. In February, the treatment revealed a considerable midday increase in photoinhibition in ML plants, much less in HL (already downregulated) and none in LL plants. This suggested a greater capacity for photosynthetic utilization of electrons in LL plants and a readiness for rapid induction of photoinhibition in ML plants. Further differences between plants acclimated to contrasting light regimes were revealed during springtime de-acclimation, when short term regeneration dynamics of Fv/Fm and the relaxation of nonphotochemical quenching (NPQ) indicated a stronger persistent thermal mechanism for energy dissipation in HL plants. The ability of Taxus baccata to sustain winter photoinhibition from autumn until late spring can be beneficial for protection against an excessive light occurring together with frosts but may also restrict photosynthetic carbon gain by this shade-tolerant species when growing in well illuminated sites.  相似文献

To evaluate the acclimative ability of current-year and previous-year needles of a shade tolerant conifer Taxus baccata L. to contrasting irradiance conditions, seedlings were raised under 27% solar irradiance and at 3 years of age they were transferred to an experimental garden and grown for one season under full irradiance (HL), 18% irradiance (ML) or 5% irradiance (LL). Whereas previous year needles did not change anatomically, current year needles in HL were thicker and had a thicker palisade and spongy mesophyll, and greater leaf mass per area than ML or LL needles. LL needles had greater nitrogen concentration than HL needles irrespective of age but only previous year LL needles also had an increased N per area content, thanks to their lack of reduction in LMA. Adjustment of chlorophyll and carotenoid content occurred in both needle age classes with LL and ML needles having much higher concentrations but, in current year needles, only slightly higher per area content than HL needles. Chlorophyll a/b ratio was not affected by age or irradiance. These modifications had no significant effect on photosynthetic capacities, which did not significantly differ between the age classes in HL or LL treatment and between treatments. On the other hand, high growth irradiance resulted in a greater photochemical yield, photochemical quenching, apparent electron transport rate and inducible non-photochemical quenching in needles formed in the current season. In previous year needles, however, only inducible NPQ was enhanced by high irradiance with other parameters remaining identical among treatments. To test sensitivity to photoinhibition, at the end of the summer plants from the three irradiance levels were transferred to a HL situation and F v/F M was determined over the following 18 days. Sensitivity to photoinhibition was negatively related to growth irradiance and previous year needles were less photoinhibited than current year needles. Thus, differences in acclimation ability between needle age classes were most pronounced at the level of anatomy and light reactions of photosynthesis, both of which showed almost no plasticity in previous year needles but were considerably modified by irradiance in current year needles.  相似文献

Summary Strong evidence for the occurrence of pronounced stomatal patchiness in needles of Picea abies (L.) Karst. and Abies alba Mill. was found using various indirect methods. Anatomical investigations revealed a septate leaf anatomy for both species, a phenomenon expected if a patchy distribution of stomatal aperture is present. Calculation of some photosynthetic characteristics (e.g. carboxylation efficiency) from gas exchange measurements is shown to be markedly affected by the patchy distribution of stomatal apertures on the needles. The importance of stomatal patchiness in connection with air pollution related forest decline symptoms as well as an hypothesis suggesting a possible role of the phenomenon as a protective mechanism against photoinhibition are discussed.  相似文献

Effects of photoinhibition on photosynthesis in pea (Pisum sativum L.) leaves were investigated by studying the relationship between the severity of a photoinhibitory treatment (measured as Fv/Fm) and several photoacoustic and chlorophyll a fluorescence parameters. Because of the observed linear relationship between the decline of Fv/Fm and the potential oxygen evolution rate determined by the photoacoustic method, the parameter Fv/Fm was used as an indicator for the severity of photoinhibition. Our analysis revealed that part of the Photosystem II (PS II) reaction centers is inactive in oxygen evolution and is also less sensitive to photoinhibition. Correcting the parameter qP (fraction of open PS II reaction centers) for inactive PS II centers unveiled a strong increase of qP in severely inhibited pea leaves, indicating that the inactivated active centers do no longer contribute to qP and that photoinhibition has an all or none effect on PS II centers. Analysis of qE (energy quenching) demonstrated its initial increase possibly associated with dephosphorylation of LHC II. Analysis of qI (photoinhibition dependent quenching) showed that the half-time of recovery of qI increases steeply below an Fv/Fm of 0.65. This increase of the relaxation half-time corresponds with a decrease of the electron transport rate J and tentatively indicates that the supply of ATP, needed for the recovery, starts to decrease. The data indicate the necessity of correcting for inactive centers in order to make valuable conclusions about effects of photoinhibition on photosynthetic parameters.  相似文献

Diurnal cycle of chlorophyll fluorescence parameters was done in Colocasia esculenta L. (swamp taro) grown in marshy land under sun or under shade. The sun leaves maintained higher electron transport rate (ETR) and steady state to initial fluorescence ratio (Fs/F0) than shade leaves. In spite of lower ETR, higher photochemical quenching (PQ), and effective quantum yield of photosystem 2 (ΦPS2) was evident in shade plants compared to plants exposed to higher irradiance. ETR increased linearly with increase in irradiance more under low irradiance (r 2 = 0.84) compared to higher irradiance (r 2 = 0.62). The maximum quantum yield of PS 2 (Fv/Fm) did not differ much in sun and shade leaves with the exception of midday when excess of light energy absorbed by plants under sun was thermally dissipated. Hence swamp taro plants adopted different strategies to utilize radiation under different irradiances. At higher irradiance, there was faster decline in proportion of open PS 2 centers (PQ) and excess light energy was dissipated through non-photochemical quenching (NPQ). Under shade, absorbed energy was effectively utilized resulting in higher ΦPS2.  相似文献

Using variable to maximum fluorescence (Fv/Fm) as the criterion, the down regulation of photosynthesis by high light stress was characterized in the detached leaves of Artabotrys hexapetatus. The decrease in Fv/Fm was corelated with the decrease in oxygen evolution by thylakoids isolated from high light exposed leaves. The decrease in Fv/Fm was linear with increasing time of exposure to high light. A comparison of recovery measured as Fv/Fm, in low light versus dark, revealed that the recovery in darkness was as significant as in low light. Since the relaxation of fluorescence was a rapid response after exposure to high light and the fact that the recovery occurs in total darkness, it is concluded that photoinhibition and down regulation of photosynthesis by high light are independent events.Abbreviation Fpl- initial plateau - Fm- maximum fluorescence - Fo- prompt fluorescence - Fv- variable fluorescence - PFD- photon flux density - PS I (II)- Photosystem I (II)  相似文献

The aim of the present investigation was to test the hypothesis that the cypress canker caused by a fungus (Seiridium cardinale) infection induced effects on photosynthesis which could be related to photoinhibition and the process of recovery in susceptible and resistant needles. Photoinhibition of photosynthesis and recovery was studied in canker‐infected susceptible and resistant needles of cypress (Cupressus sempervirens L.) under controlled conditions (irradiation of detached needles to approximately 1900 μmol/m2/s). The degree of photoinhibition was determined by means of the ratio of variable to maximum chlorophyll (Chl) fluorescence (Fv/Fm) and electron transport measurements. The potential efficiency of photosystem (PS) II, Fv/Fm declined, and Fo increased significantly in canker‐susceptible needles, while Fo did not change in resistant needles. In isolated thylakoids, high light (HL) decreased the rate of whole chain and PS II activity markedly more in susceptible than in resistant needles. A smaller reduction of PS I activity was noticed only in susceptible needles. Upon subsequent dark incubation, fast recovery was noticed in both needle types and reached maximum rates of PS II efficiency similar to those noticed in non‐photoinhibited needles. The artificial exogenous electron donors such as diphenyl carbazide (DPC), NH2OH and Mn2+ failed to restore the HL induced loss of PS II activity in susceptible needles, while DPC and NH2OH significantly restored it in resistant needles. The results suggest that HL inactivates the donor side of PS II in resistant and the acceptor side of PS II in susceptible needles. The results on the quantification of the PS II reaction centre protein D1 and 33 kDa protein of water‐splitting complex following HL exposure showed pronounced differences between susceptible and resistant needles. The marked loss of PS II activity in HL‐irradiated needles was due to the marked loss of D1 protein in susceptible and 33 kDa protein in resistant needles, respectively.  相似文献

Abstract. The CAM vine Hoya australis and three C3 vines, Smilax australis, Ipomoea pes-caprae and Kennedta rubicunda, were studied at a site on the coast of northeastern New South Wales, Australia. The level of CAM activity (nocturnal acid accumulation) was comparable in H. australis growing in full sunlight and in deep shade. Acclimation to shade by H. australis was indicated by thinner leaves, increased chlorophyll content, decreased chlorophyll a/b ratios, lower dark respiration rates, and lower light compensation points. When growing in full sunlight H. australis exhibited reductions in photochemical efficiency, as indicated by reduced quantum yields and Fv/Fm fluorescence from PS II as well as low rates of photosynthesis at high light. Sun leaves of H. australis experienced a massive quenching of fluorescence from PS II during normal exposure to midday irradiance which was rapidly reversible under low irradiance conditions in the late afternoon. This quenching indicated a reduction in photochemical efficiency, part of which could be accounted for by an increase in non-radiative energy dissipation, while part of it was due to one or more processes not yet identified. Changes in PS II fluorescence from shade H. australis exposed to full sunlight suggest a decrease in the rate constant for photochemistry indicative of damage to the reaction centre, as well as an increase in non-radiative energy dissipation. The C3 vine S. australis was also shade tolerant, but exhibited little evidence of photoinhibition when growing in full sunlight. Ipomoea pescaprae and K. rubicunda, both of which were apparently shade intolerant (being found only in full sunlight), possessed high quantum yields and much higher photosynthetic capacities than either H. australis or S. australis. From this study, and several others, it appears that plants possessing CAM experience photoinhibition to a greater degree than do C3 species in full sunlight under natural conditions, which is probably exacerbated by some degree of CAM-idling.  相似文献

The short-term acclimation (10-d) of Norway spruce [Picea abies (L.) Karst] to elevated CO2 concentration (EC) in combination with low irradiance (100 mol m–2 s–1) resulted in stimulation of CO2 assimilation (by 61 %), increased total chlorophyll (Chl) content (by 17 %), significantly higher photosystem 2 (PS2) photochemical efficiency (Fv/Fm; by 4 %), and reduced demand on non-radiative dissipation of absorbed excitation energy corresponding with enhanced capacity of photon utilisation within PS2. On the other hand, at high cultivation irradiance (1 200 mol m–2 s–1) both Norway spruce and spring barley (Hordeum vulgare L. cv. Akcent) responded to EC by reduced photosynthetic capacity and prolonged inhibition of Fv/Fm accompanied with enhanced non-radiative dissipation of absorbed photon energy. Norway spruce needles revealed the expressive retention of zeaxanthin and antheraxanthin (Z+A) in darkness and higher violaxanthin (V) convertibility (yielding even 95 %) under all cultivation regimes in comparison with barley plants. In addition, the non-photochemical quenching of minimum Chl a fluorescence (SV0), expressing the extent of non-radiative dissipation of absorbed photon energy within light-harvesting complexes (LHCs), linearly correlated with V conversion to Z+A very well in spruce, but not in barley plants. Finally, a key role of the Z+A-mediated non-radiative dissipation within LHCs in acclimation of spruce photosynthetic apparatus to high irradiance alone and in combination with EC was documented by extremely high SV0 values, fast induction of non-radiative dissipation of absorbed photon energy, and its stability in darkness.  相似文献

The acclimation depression of capacity of photon utilisation in photochemical reactions of photosystem 2 (PS2) can develop already after three months of cultivation of the Norway spruces (Picea abies [L.] Karst.) under elevated concentrations of CO2 (i.e., ambient, AC, + 350 µmol(CO2) mol–1 = EC) in glass domes with adjustable windows. To examine the role that duration of EC plays in acclimation response, we determined pigment contents, rate of photosynthesis, and parameters of chlorophyll a fluorescence for sun and shade needles after three seasons of EC exposure. We found responses of shaded and exposed needles to EC. Whereas the shaded needles still profited from the EC and revealed stimulated electron transport, for the exposed needles the stimulation of both electron transport activity and irradiance saturated rate of CO2 assimilation (P Nmax) under EC already disappeared. No signs of the PS2 impairment were observed as judged from high values of potential quantum yield of PS2 photochemistry (FV/FM) and uniform kinetics of QA reoxidation for all variants. Therefore, the long-term acclimation of the sun-exposed needles to EC is not necessarily accompanied with the damage to the PS2 reaction centres. The eco-physiological significance of the reported differentiation between the responses of shaded and sun exposed needles to prolonged EC may be in changed contribution of the upper and lower crown layers to the production activity of the tree. Whereas for the AC spruces, P Nmax of shaded needles was only less than 25 % compared to exposed ones, for the EC spruces the P Nmax of shaded needles reached nearly 40 % of that estimated for the exposed ones. Thus, the lower shaded part of the crown may become an effective consumer of CO2.  相似文献

On a semiarid sand grassland (Festucetum vaginatae) colonised by juniper (Juniperus communis L.) shrubs terricolous lichens and mosses segregate strongly between microhabitats: certain species grow in the open grassland, others almost exclusively in the shade of junipers. The contrasting irradiances of these microhabitats influence much the metabolism of these organisms, and thus affect their small-scale distribution. This was confirmed by determining the efficiency of photochemical energy conversion by measuring chlorophyll a fluorescence parameters. In the open grassland maximum photochemical efficiency of photosystem 2 (PS2, Fv/Fm) declined from the humid spring to the hot and dry summer in all species, and this was caused by an increase in base fluorescence (F0), but not by the decrease in fluorescence maximum (Fm). In summer, mosses and lichens growing in the open grassland generally possessed lower Fv/Fm than cryptogams growing in the shade cast by juniper shrubs. Thus mosses and lichens in the open grassland suffer lasting reduction in photochemical efficiency in summer, which is avoided in the shade of junipers. Juniper shrubs indeed influence the composition and small-scale spatial pattern of sympatric terricolous lichen and moss communities by—among others—providing a shelter against high light in summer.  相似文献

Morphological plasticity was studied for advanced regeneration trees in different light environments of the mountainous, mixed-species forests in the Carpathian Mountains of Romania. The primary species in these mixtures were very shade tolerant silver fir (Abies alba Mill.) and European beech (Fagus sylvatica L.), and midtolerant Norway spruce (Picea abies (L.) Karst). Seedlings/saplings of these species were selected for measurements in different stands from two different geographical locations. Various morphological traits (specific leaf area, live crown ratio, crown width to length ratio, terminal to lateral ratio, number of internodal shoots, number of shoots in terminal whorl, stem symmetry, stem orientation, stem forking) for each regenerating tree were measured during summers of 2001 and 2002. Percentage of above canopy light and stand basal area measures were used to assess the available growing space for each seedling/sapling. Regression relationships were developed for the different morphological indicators as a function of these two variables. All species adapted their morphology along the gradient in light and basal area. Spruce seemed to be less adapted to low light conditions than both fir and beech. However, no significant differences in terms of shade tolerance were detected using the above indicators. In really dense stand conditions (less than 20% above canopy light and stand basal area above 36 m2 ha−1), probability for stem forking in beech increased. In open, all three species adapted their morphology for vigorous growth. Under such conditions, spruce was better adapted than fir.  相似文献

Evergreens undergo reductions in maximal photochemical efficiency (Fv/Fm) during winter due to increases in sustained thermal energy dissipation. Upon removing winter stressed leaves to room temperature and low light, Fv/Fm recovers and can include both a rapid and a slow phase. The goal of this study was to determine whether the rapid component to recovery exists in winter stressed conifers at any point during the season in a seasonally extreme environment. Additional goals were to compare the effects of species, growth light environment and the extent of the winter season on recovery kinetics in conifers. Four species (sun and shade needle) were monitored during the winter of 2007/2008: eastern white pine (Pinus strobus), balsam fir (Abies balsamea), Taxus cuspidata and white spruce (Picea glauca). Fv/Fm was measured in the field, and then monitored indoors at room temperature and low light for 6 days. The results showed that all species showed a rapid component to recovery in early winter that disappeared later in the season in sun needles but was present in shade needles on most days monitored during winter. There were differences among species in the recovery kinetics across the season, with pine recovering the most slowly and spruce the most quickly. The results suggest an important role for the rapidly reversible form of energy dissipation in early winter, as well as important differences between species in their rate of recovery in late winter/early spring which may have implications for spring onset of photosynthesis.  相似文献

The effect of UV-B on the photosynthetic apparatus of coniferous trees: Picea abies (L.) Karst., Picea pungens (Engelm.), Pinus sylvestris (L.), Pinus cembra (L.) and Abies alba (Mill.) was investigated. Three and four-year-old plantlets coming from different latitudes, longitudes and altitudes were used. The experiment was carried out in greenhouse. Two doses of ultraviolet-B irradiation were applied: control=0, low dose=11.32 and high dose=22.64 kJ·m−2·d−1 UV-BBE (biologically effective irradiance of UV-B). Measurements of chlorophyll fluorescence, gas exchange, chlorophyll and flavonoids content were carried out. Response of forest trees to an increased UV-B radiation depends on species, location of place of pantalets collecting and UV-B dose. Pinus cembra, Picea abies and Pinus sylvestris from high altitude (1000 m a.s.l.) were less sensitive to UV-B than these from plain location. The altitude determined adaptation of forest coniferous trees to an enhanced UV-B radiation much more than the latitudinal gradient. Permanent discoloration was observed only on the young needles of the fir plantlets that were grown in light limiting conditions. Photosynthetic parameters were affected by the UV-B radiation. Both maximal and the steady state fluorescence of chlorophyll were reduced as a consequence of elevated UV-B in case of some species. The chlorophyll content was enhanced, increased or was not affected according to species and to locations. The flavonoids content in the needles increased with chlorophyll content at both UV-B treatments. An opposite trend was found in the control. The increased content of screening pigments in the needles of all the tested coniferous trees was detected. Picea abies and Picea pungens photosynthesis response curves to the light and to the intercellular CO2 concentration did not change significantly under increased UV-B because of higher concentration in screening pigments in leaves. The increased concentration of flavonoids in forest litter may lead to changes in the biogeochemical cycle in the forest ecosystem.  相似文献

Variation in tolerance in chilling-dependent photoinhibition has been associated with a wide range of traits in comparative physiological studies. A sweet corn (Zea mays L.) population of 214 F2:3 families previously mapped to near-saturation with 93 RFLP DNA markers were subjected to low temperature and high-light events prior to measurement of the maximum dark-adapted quantum efficiency of PS II (Fv/Fm), to identify loci associated with variation in chilling-dependent photoinhibition. In the first assay with ten families varying in seedling growth and germination, significant differences were observed among families in their response to and recovery from exposure to high light at low temperature. All the 214 F2:3 families from this population were then evaluated for tolerance of chilling-dependent photoinhibition in a controlled environment and then in three replicated trials in the field, each following naturally occurring chilling events during spring. The measured effects on Fv/Fm were analyzed with software that mapped segregating loci that regulate trait expression and linked to genetic markers (PLABQTL). QTL 3.096 (i.e. 96 cM on chromosome three) was consistently identified in both controlled environment and in the mean of the three field trails. Another QTL at 8.025, described the greatest percentage of total phenotypic variance (ca. 10%) for the mean reduction in Fv/Fm of all three periods of measurement in the field. A third QTL (4.136) showed a highly significant association in the third field trial. These three QTLs were closely associated with genes that have been mechanistically related to photoinhibition tolerance and repair. The results suggest that the ratio of Fv/Fm is an approach that may be used in establishing marker-assisted breeding for improved tolerance to chilling of maize in the light and in turn better early-season growth in cool temperate climates.  相似文献

Seeds of Suaeda salsa were cultured in dark for 3 d and betacyanin accumulation in seedlings was promoted significantly. Then the seedlings with accumulated betacyanin (C+B) were transferred to 14/10 h light/dark and used for chilling treatment 15 d later. Photosystem 2 (PS2) photochemistry, D1 protein content, and xanthophyll cycle during the chilling-induced photoinhibition (exposed to 5 °C at a moderate photon flux density of 500 μmol m−2 s−1 for 3 h) and the subsequent restoration were compared between the C+B seedlings and the control (C) ones. The maximal efficiency of PS2 photochemistry (Fv/Fm), the efficiency of excitation energy capture by open PS2 centres (Fv′/Fm′), and the yield of PS2 electron transport (ΦPS2) of the C+B and C leaves both decreased during photoinhibition. However, smaller decreases in Fv/Fm, Fv′/Fm′, and ΦPS2 were observed in the C+B leaves than in C ones. At the same time, the deepoxidation state of xanthophyll cycle, indicated by (A+Z)/(V+A+Z) ratio, increased rapidly but the D1 protein content decreased considerably during the photoinhibition. The increase in rate of (A+Z)/(V+A+Z) was higher but the D1 protein turnover was slower in C+B than C leaves. After photoinhibition treatment, the plants were transferred to a dim irradiation (10 μmol m−2 s−1) at 25 °C for restoration. During restoration, the chlorophyll (Chl) fluorescence parameters, D1 protein content, and xanthophyll cycle components relaxed gradually, but the rate and level of restoration in the C+B leaves was greater than those in the C leaves. The addition of betacyanins to the thylakoid solution in vitro resulted in similar changes of Fv/Fm, D1 protein content, and (A+Z)/(V+A+Z) ratio during the chilling process. Therefore, betacyanin accumulation in S. salsa seedlings may result in higher resistance to photoinhibition, larger slowing down of D1 protein turnover, and enhancement of non-radiative energy dissipation associated with xanthophyll cycle, as well as in greater restoration after photoinhibition than in the control when subjected to chilling at moderate irradiance.  相似文献

Summary Recovery from winter depression of photosynthesis was studied in Pinus sylvestris, Pinus conforta and Picea abies by means of chlorophyll fluorescence and gas exchange measurements. During the winter 1986–1987 the fluorescence yield was low and no variable fluorescence was detectable before the end of March. In the field recovery of variable fluorescence/maximum fluorescence (Fv/Fm) during spring was slow for all three species studied. The temperature dependence of recovery was confirmed from measurements of the potential rate of recovery of Fv/Fm at different temperatures in the laboratory. At 20° C, Fv/Fm increased from 0.1 to 0.8 within 3 days. Recovery of Fv/Fm was paralleled by an increase in apparent photon yield. No significant differences could be demonstrated between the studied tree species in potential rate of recovery in the laboratory or in actual recovery in the field.  相似文献

Midday photoinhibition of two newly developed super-rice hybrids   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Super-rice hybrids are two-line hybrid rice cultivars with 15 to 20 % higher yields than the raditional three-line hybrid rice cultivars. Response of photosynthetic functions to midday photoinhibition was compared between seedlings of the traditional hybrid rice (Oryza sativa L.) Shanyou63 and two super-rice hybrids, Hua-an3 and Liangyoupeijiu. Under strong midday sunlight, in comparison with Shanyou63, the two super-rice hybrids were less photoinhibited, as indicated by the lower loss of the net photosynthetic rate (P N), the quantum yield of photosystem 2 (ΦPS2), and the maximum and effective quantum yield of PS2 photochemistry (Fv/Fm and Fv′/Fm′). They also had a much higher transpiration rate. Hence the super-rice hybrids could protect themselves against midday photoinhibition at the cost of water. The photoprotective de-epoxidized xanthophyll cycle components, antheraxanthin (A) and zeaxanthin (Z), were accumulated more in Hua-an3 and Liangyoupeijiu than in Shanyou63, but the size of xanthophyll cycle pool of the seedlings was not affected by midday photoinhibition. Compared to Shanyou63, the super-rice hybrids were better photoprotected under natural high irradiance stress and the accumulation of Z and A, not the size of the xanthophyll pool protected the rice hybrids against photoinhibition.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to investigate acclimation of micropropagated plants of Rhododendron ponticum subsp. baeticum to different irradiances and recovery after exposure to high irradiance. Plants grown under high (HL) or intermediate (IL) irradiances displayed higher values of maximum electron transport rate (ETRmax) and light saturation coefficient (Ek) than plants grown under low irradiance (LL). The capacity of tolerance to photoinhibition (as assessed by the response of photochemical quenching, qp) varied as follows: HL > IL > LL. Thermal energy dissipation (qN) was also affected by growth irradiance, with higher saturating values being observed in HL plants. Light-response curves suggested a gradual replacement of qp by qN with increasing irradiance. Following exposure to irradiance higher than 1500 μmol m−2 s−1, a prolonged reduction of the maximal photochemical efficiency of PS 2 (Fv/Fm) was observed in LL plants, indicating the occurrence of chronic photoinhibition. In contrary, the decrease in Fv/Fm was quickly reverted in HL plants, pointing to a reversible photoinhibition.  相似文献
