Seaweed Extracts as Biostimulants of Plant Growth and Development   总被引:7,自引:0,他引:7  
Marine algal seaweed species are often regarded as an underutilized bioresource, many have been used as a source of food, industrial raw materials, and in therapeutic and botanical applications for centuries. Moreover, seaweed and seaweed-derived products have been widely used as amendments in crop production systems due to the presence of a number of plant growth-stimulating compounds. However, the biostimulatory potential of many of these products has not been fully exploited due to the lack of scientific data on growth factors present in seaweeds and their mode of action in affecting plant growth. This article provides a comprehensive review of the effect of various seaweed species and seaweed products on plant growth and development with an emphasis on the use of this renewable bioresource in sustainable agricultural systems.  相似文献

A total of 74 morphologically distinct bacterial colonies were selected during isolation of bacteria from different parts of tomato plant (rhizoplane, phylloplane and rhizosphere) as well as nearby bulk soil. The isolates were screened for plant growth promoting (PGP) traits such as production of indole acetic acid, siderophore, chitinase and hydrogen cyanide as well as phosphate solubilization. Seven isolates viz., NR4, NR6, RP3, PP1, RS4, RP6 and NR1 that exhibited multiple PGP traits were identified, based on morphological, biochemical and 16S rRNA gene sequence analysis, as species that belonged to four genera Aeromonas, Pseudomonas,Bacillus and Enterobacter. All the seven isolates were positive for 1-aminocyclopropane-1-carboxylate deaminase. Isolate NR6 was antagonistic to Fusarium solani and Fusarium moniliforme, and both PP1 and RP6 isolates were antagonistic to F. moniliforme. Except RP6, all isolates adhered significantly to glass surface suggestive of biofilm formation. Seed bacterization of tomato, groundnut, sorghum and chickpea with the seven bacterial isolates resulted in varied growth response in laboratory assay on half strength Murashige and Skoog medium. Most of the tomato isolates positively influenced tomato growth. The growth response was either neutral or negative with groundnut, sorghum and chickpea. Overall, the results suggested that bacteria with PGP traits do not positively influence the growth of all plants, and certain PGP bacteria may exhibit host-specificity. Among the isolates that positively influenced growth of tomato (NR1, RP3, PP1, RS4 and RP6) only RS4 was isolated from tomato rhizosphere. Therefore, the best PGP bacteria can also be isolated from zones other than rhizosphere or rhizoplane of a plant.

Smoke-water (SW) has a positive effect on seed germination in many plant species and its application in various fields of plant science has become popular. The method of preparing SW is relatively easy and inexpensive. However, many researchers working in the field of smoke biology are still unfamiliar with preparing SW and testing it for bioactivity. Thus, the aim of this study was to develop a low-cost efficient apparatus to produce SW using grasses, its standardisation and quantification of major active biomolecules. The prepared crude SW was diluted with distilled water (SW:DW) to 75:25, 50:50 and 25:75 (v/v) and these sub-dilutions were further diluted to 1:500; 1:1000; 1:1500; 1:2000; 1:2500; 1:3000 and 1:3500 (v/v). For the standardisation of SW, lettuce seeds (Lactuca sativa L. cv. Grand Rapids) were tested to determine the best working concentration. The ratio 1:2500 (v/v) from the sub-dilution 25:75 (v/v) of SW was the best for germination of lettuce seeds in the dark, achieving 91% germination against the water control that had only 7–10% germination. This is the first study which reports the levels of stimulatory (karrikinolide 1, KAR1 and karrikinolide 2, KAR2) and inhibitory (trimethylbutenolide, TMB) compounds present in SW using ultrahigh-performance liquid chromatography–electrospray positive ionisation tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-ESI(+)-MS/MS).

用6-BA、IBA、GA 3等3种植物生长调节剂对降香黄檀种子进行萌发处理,测定降香黄檀种子中可溶性糖、淀粉、蛋白质和脂肪含量的变化。结果表明,降香黄檀种子在不同的萌发处理过程中,可溶性糖含量均呈下降趋势,萌发结束时淀粉含量由第3 d的0.6%下降至0.2%以下,其中6-BA处理后种子萌发前期(3~6 d)淀粉含量变化不大,后期则有一个显著的下降趋势;3种植物生长调节剂对降香黄檀种子蛋白质、脂肪含量变化影响不明显。  相似文献

盐胁迫对4种短命植物种子萌发及植株生长的影响   总被引:2,自引:1,他引:2  
以新疆北部4种十字花科短命植物为材料,研究不同浓度NaCl胁迫下其种子萌发及植株生长特性,以明确它们的耐盐性强弱。结果显示:(1)随着NaCl浓度的增加,4种植物种子萌发率、萌发指数和相对萌发率均不同程度下降,而相对盐害率则逐渐升高,并以绵果荠的耐盐性最好,其在300 mmol.L-1NaCl胁迫下仍有22.22%的萌发率。(2)4种植物的生长在50~150 mmol.L-1NaCl胁迫下没有受到明显抑制,在200 mmol.L-1浓度下受不同程度的抑制,而在300 mmol.L-1NaCl胁迫下抑制作用更严重,其中绵果荠在各浓度处理下长势均最好,能够在300 mmol.L-1NaCl胁迫下存活10 d。(3)在盐胁迫条件下,4种植物细胞质膜透性不同程度增加,而叶片相对含水量和光合色素含量均不同程度降低,并以绵果荠各项指标的变化幅度最小。可见,4种新疆短命植物种子萌发和植株生长均受到盐胁迫的伤害,但它们的耐盐阈值明显不同,并以绵果荠的耐盐性最强。  相似文献

采用三种植物生长调节剂GA3、IBA和6-BA不同浓度按正交设计方法,搭配处理组合,对降香黄檀种子进行处理,通过对种子发芽率、发芽势和发芽指数指标的测定,研究不同浓度的植物生长调节剂对珍贵用材树种降香黄檀种子萌发的影响。结果表明:3种植物生长调节剂浸种对降香黄檀种子萌发以6-BA的促进效果较好,GA3次之,而IBA对降香黄檀种子的发芽促进作用不明显,以处理组合6-BA50mg/L6h为最优,显著提高种子的萌发率。  相似文献

At 25 °C germination of tomato (Lycopersicon lycopersicum)seeds is inhibited by continuous and intermittent far red illumination.It is also inhibited by a single 30 min far red irradiationgiven 8 h from the start of imbibition. The incubation of seedsin a mannitol solution inhibitory for germination has no effecton the final germination percentage after seeds are subsequentlytransferred to water. A 30 min far red irradiation at the timeof transfer results in partial inhibition of germination. Thisinhibition can be released by the continuation of osmotic incubationfor several days before the transfer to water. At the end ofa 7 d dark period of osmotic incubation, inhibition of subsequentgermination in water can be realized only by continuous farred illumination. Seeds osmotically pretreated for 7 d and afterwardsdried-back show a mean time to 50% germination significantlylower than that of untreated seeds. Moreover, besides singleand intermittent, even continuous far red light has no inhibitoryeffect on the germination of these seeds. It is concluded that,in addition to the already known germination advantages, osmoticpresowing treatment also induces the ability of seeds to germinateunder unfavourable light conditi.  相似文献

以0、0.1、0.3、0.5、0.7、0.9mmol·L-1共6种浓度的外源一氧化氮(NO)供体硝普钠(SNP)处理豌豆、黄瓜、玉米和刺槐种子及其砂培幼苗后的结果表明:0.1~0.3mmol·L-1SNP对种子发芽势、发芽率及幼苗的根长、叶绿素含量和生物量有明显的促进作用;随着SNP浓度的增加,种子萌发和幼苗生长明显受抑制,不同植物受抑制程度的差异明显.  相似文献

This study reports the ability of Fusarium to induce orchidseed colouration and germination. The in vitro bioassay germinationtest, using a Fusarium isolate from the protocorm of Cypripediumreginae, was compared with standard chemical procedures of triphenyltetrazolium chloride (TTC) and acid fuchsin (AC) for testingseed viability. With Cypripedium reginae, Cypripedium parviflorumand Platanthera grandiflora, the efficiency of the bioassaywas similar to that of the TTC and AC procedures. However, thebioassay was more appropriate for estimating embryo viabilityafter a prolonged seed pretreatment (more than 2 h) in 10% sodiumhypochlorite, a surface sterilant often used to enhance germinationof terrestrial species. We also obtained in vitro Cypripediumreginae seed germination induction and protocorm formation bythe same Fusarium isolate. This is the first confirmation ofBernard's early reports that orchid fusaria could stimulateseed germination (Bernard N. 1990.Révue Généralede Botanique12 : 108–120). However, the importance ofthe non-mycorrhizal Fusarium fungus in promoting germinationseems to be relatively minor compared to that of specificRhizoctoniaorchid mycorrhizas. Trichoderma harzianum strain SQR-T037 is a biocontrol agent that has been shown to enhance the uptake of nutrients (macro- and microelements) by plants in fields. The objective of this study was to investigate the contribution of SQR-T037 to P and microelement (Fe, Mn, Cu and Zn) nutrition in tomato plants grown in soil and in hydroponic conditions. Inoculation with SQR-T037 significantly improved the biomass and nutrient uptake of tomato seedlings grown in a nutrient-limiting soil. So we investigated the capability of SQR-T037 to solubilise sparingly soluble minerals in vitro via four known mechanisms: acidification by organic acids, chelation by siderophores, redox by ferric reductase and hydrolysis by phytase. SQR-T037 was able to solubilise phytate, Fe2O3, CuO, and metallic Zn but not Ca3(PO4)2 or MnO2. Organic acids, including lactic acid, citric acid, tartaric acid and succinic acid, were detected by HPLC and LC/MS in two Trichoderma cultures. Additionally, we inoculated tomato seedlings with SQR-T037 using a hydroponic system with specific nutrient deficiencies (i.e., nutrient solutions deficient in P, Fe, Cu or Zn and supplemented with their corresponding solid minerals) to better study the effects of Trichoderma inoculation on plant growth and nutrition. Inoculated seedlings grown in Cu-deficient hydroponic conditions exhibited increases in dry plant biomass (92%) and Cu uptake (42%) relative to control plants. However, we did not observe a significant effect on seedling biomass in plants grown in the Fe- and Zn-deficient hydroponic conditions; by contrast, the biomass decreased by 82% in the P-deficient hydroponic condition. Thus, we demonstrated that Trichoderma SQR-T037 competed for P (phytate) and Zn with tomato seedlings by suppressing root development, releasing phytase and/or chelating minerals. The results of this study suggest that the induction of increased or suppressed plant growth occurs through the direct effect of T. harzianum on root development, in combination with indirect mechanisms, such as mineral solubilisation (including solubilisation via acidification, redox, chelation and hydrolysis).  相似文献

Requirements for seed germination (emergence of radicle) andseedling formation (emergence of both radicle and cotyledons)of a hemi-root parasite Sopubia delphinifolia were studied inthe absence of any host stimulus, in Petri dish and asepticcultures. Both water washing in trickling tap water as wellas cold treatment were effective in inducing/stimulating germinationand seedling formation in the light. Although ethrel, an ethylenereleasing compound, stimulated radicle emergence it inhibitedthe emergence of the cotyledons. Light was found to be essentialfor germination; none of the growth substances could replacethe light requirement. Light responses seem to be mediated throughthe phytochrome system. The results indicate that the emergenceof the radicle, its further growth into the root and the emergenceof cotyledons are controlled by different factors. 在3种处理条件下对猴面包树Adansonia digitata种子进行播种育苗,观察记录种子萌发特性、苗高和地径,以及连续观察两年物候。结果表明:(1)70 ℃热水浸种发芽率和发芽势最高,分别为18.72%、6.20%。(2)苗高和地径增长呈“S”型,苗木生长分为缓慢期、速生期和停滞期;苗高和地径的速生期起点均为7月上旬,一直持续至9月上旬,在8月中旬出现苗高和地径速生点。1年生猴面包树苗高和地径可达81.9 cm和12.6 mm,苗木整齐度较好,苗木质量较高,苗木移栽成活率高达90%以上。(3)在云南元阳县干热河谷地区,2年内猴面包树苗期的物候无显著差异,生长发育正常,证明该地区是猴面包树理想的引种栽培区域之一。  相似文献

The effects of allyl, sulfur and cyanogenic compounds on thegermination of upper cocklebur (Xanthium pennsylvanicum Wallr.)seeds were examined. Mercaptoethanol and methylmercaptan aswell as KCN, substrates for rßcyanoalanine synthase(CAS), and H2S and thiocyanate, the products of the CAS catalyzingreaction, were effective in promoting germination, suggestingthe involvement of CAS in germination. Most of allyl compounds, especially allylthiourea, as well asethylene which activated CAS [Hasegawa et al. (1994) Physiol.Plant. 91: 141], promoted the germination in an abnormal typewhich occurred by the predominant growth of cotyledons as didC2H4 [Katoh and Esashi (1975) Plant Cell Physiol. 16: 687].However, they failed to activate CAS unlike ethylene, and toliberate free ethylene during an incubation period. 研究不同浓度的小油桐籽水提取液及酒精提取液对‘贵杂110号’油菜、‘卓越’黑麦草及‘早麦10号’小麦种子萌发及幼苗生长的影响。结果表明,小油桐籽水提取液对3种作物种子发芽率、幼苗的芽长及根长有抑制作用,且随浓度提高抑制作用增强;酒精提取液对黑麦草与小麦的种子发芽、幼苗芽和根的生长有抑制作用,但特定浓度可促进油菜幼苗芽的生长。  相似文献
