Summary Wastewater from cotton yarn and fabric finishing was successfully treated in an upflow anaerobic filter at 35°C up to a COD loading of 1 Kgr COD/m3 · day; the COD removal varied from 50 to 90% and production of biogas was 0,2–0.4 L/g influent COD, having 70–80% CH4. At higher COD loading biogas production stopped although COD removal remainedca 50%.  相似文献

Summary Start-up of four laboratory-scale anaerobic filters, containing clay, coral, mussel shell and plastic pall ring support materials, was achieved at a hydraulic retention time of 6 days and a constant COD loading, ab initio, of 5 kg COD.m–3.d–1 using a pig slurry supernatant feed. Start-up was most rapid with the clay filter (c. 20 days) and was slowest with the filter containing the mussel shell support. Irrespective of the time taken for start-up, the performance of all four filters at steady-state was similar, with COD removal efficiencies of 69–73% being attained. Start-up and steady-state performance did not correlate directly with either the unit surface area or the porosity of the support materials utilised.  相似文献

Summary A novel Acinetobacter sp. BTJR-10 isolated from highly acidic (pH 2.5–4.5) rubber latex centrifugation effluent with high COD (22000 mg/L) and BOD (5000 mg/L). This strain could effect 39.5% COD reduction on free cell inoculation of effluent without incorporation of additional nutrients after 8 days. Calcium alginate immobilized cells showed 16.4% and 25% COD reduction after 6 hrs. without aeration and after 1 hr. with mild aeration under batch process respectively. Whereas 44.0% COD reduction could be achieved after 6 hrs. on continuous treatment in a packed bed reactor with mild aeration. Further, even after 3 cycles 37% COD reduction was recorded with continuous treatment.  相似文献

Summary The optimal growth rate ofLipomyces starkeyi, with dextran as sole carbon source, was found within the pH range 2.5–4.0, and temperature between 25–30°C. This yeast was unable to grow above 33°C. Dextranase production optima paralleled growth optima, except at pH 2.5. Decrease in enzyme yield at this pH could not be attributed to poor yeast growth or enzyme stability.  相似文献

Summary Nine species of fungi viz.,Aspergillus niger,A. flavus,A. terreus,Fusarium solani,Mucor sp.,Neurospora crassa,Penicillium janthinellum,Trichoderma harzianum andTrichothecium roseum were evaluated for their potential to remove NH3–N from domestic waste water. Of the fungi tested,A. flavus was found to be the most effective in the removal of NH3–N. Maximum reduction (92%) of NH3–N by this organism was observed at pH 8.0 at 20°C.  相似文献

Summary Bacillus licheniformis M27 produced 21, 000 units of alpha-amylase/g dry bacterial bran under solid state fermentation in wheat bran medium enriched with 3.3% di-ammonium hydrogen phosphate. The crude enzyme, with temperature optimum at 90°C in 0.5% starch solution, showed pH optima at 6.5–7.0 and 9.5 and over 75% activity over the pH range 6.0–10.5.  相似文献

Summary A facultative halophilic yeastTorulopsis candida (Saito) Lodder, isolated from the Arabian Gulf, was oua to grow on n-alkanes (C13–C19) at 37°C and pH 3–7 in media containing 1.4- 3M NaCl or 30–90% seawater. The influence of pH, temperature, growth factors, salt and pure n-alkanes on its growth were studied. Summary An alkali-tolerant fungusAsperqillus fischeri Fxn1 isolated from xylan enrichment grew in the pH range 5–10 and secreted an extracellular cellulase-free xylanase. Arabinose, lactose, maltose, cellobiose and glucose induced low levels of xylanase (1.8–9.0 IU/ml), whereas xylose, xylan and wheat bran induced higher level (34–45 IU/ml).CMcellulose and FPcellulose did not support growth. The optimum pH of xylanase was 6.0–6.5 and it was stable in a wide range of pH 5–9.5. The optimum temperature was 60°C and it was stable upto 55°C. The half-lives at 50 and 55 °C were 240 and 40 min. respectively. This enzyme released reducing sugars from pulp at pH 9.0 and 40°C.  相似文献

Summary An alkalophilicStreptomyces which produced xylanase, isolated from soil, grew in a temperature range of 15–37°C. The pH optimum for growth was 10 and no growth occurred at pH 7. On a simple wheat bran medium the microorganism exhibited maximum enzyme secretion of 12 U/ml at pH 10. The enzyme had a broad pH optimum of 4.8–10 and the optimum temperature of 50°C. It was completely inactivated at 60°C in 2 h. The enzyme hydrolyzed xylan to a mixture of oligomeric products indicating that the main activity was of the endoxylanase type. The culture filtrate had no cellulase activity.  相似文献

The primary objective of this study was to evaluate the performance of a 20 l lab scale anaerobic hybrid reactor (AHR) combining sludge blanket in the lower part and filter in the upper part under varying organic loading rates (OLRs) in order to study biodegradation of olive mill effluent (OME). For this purpose, some parameters, such as total phenols, effluent chemical oxygen demand (COD), suspended solids (SS), volatile fatty acids (VFAs), and pH in the influent and effluent, and removal efficiencies for those parameters (except pH) were continuously monitored throughout the experimental period of 477 days. Eleven different organic loadings between 0.45 and 32 kg COD m−3 day−1 were imposed by either varying influent COD or hydraulic retention time (HRT). The results demonstrated that the AHR reactor could tolerate high influent COD concentrations. Removal efficiencies for the studied pollution parameters were found to be as follows: COD, 50–94%; total phenol, 39–80%; color, 0–54%; and suspended solids, 19–87%. The levels of VFAs in the effluent, which was principally acetate, butyrate, iso-butyrate, and propionate, varied between 10 and 2005 mg l−1 depending upon OLRs. A COD removal efficiency of 90% could be achieved as long as OLR is kept at a level of less than 10 kg COD m−3 day−1. However, a secondary treatment unit for polishing purposes is necessary to comply with receiving media discharge standards.  相似文献

In order to investigate the influence of hydraulic retention time (HRT) on organic pollutant removal in a submerged membrane bioreactor (SMBR), a laboratory-scale experiment was conducted using domestic sewage as influent. The dissolved oxygen (DO) concentration was controlled at 2.0– during the experimental period. The experiments demonstrated that when HRT was 3, 2 and 1 h, the reduction of chemical oxygen demand (COD) was 89.3–97.2, 88.5–97.3 and 80–91.1%, and the effluent COD was 38.9–11.2, 41.6–10.8 and 63.4–, respectively. It is suggested that an HRT of 1 h could meet the normal standard of discharged domestic sewage, and an HRT of 2 h could meet that of water reclamation. In addition, we use mathematical software MATLAB to analyse the relation of mixed liquor suspended solids (MLSS) and COD removal. The results showed that the optimum MLSS concentration should be maintained at around in the SMBR. The results also showed that the COD removal was related to HRT (τ), influent concentration (S0) and sludge loading rate for COD removal (NS). Moreover, the high COD removal could be achieved through adjusting τ, S0 and NS.  相似文献

A column reactor, in which the bottom two-thirds were occupied by a sludge blanket and the upper one-third by submerged clay rings, was evaluated using slaughterhouse wastewater as substrate. The reactor was operated at 35°C at loading rates varying from 5 g to 45 g chemical oxygen demand (COD) 1–1 × day–1 at an influent concentration of 2450 mg COD 1–1. A maximum substrate removal rate of 32 g COD 1–1 × day–1, coupled with a methane production rate of 6.91 × 1–1 × day–1 (STP), was obtained. This removal rate is significantly higher than those previously reported. The rate of substrate utilization by the biomass was 1.22 g COD (g volatile suspended solids)–1 day–1. COD removal was over 96% with loading rates up to 25 g COD 1–1 × day–1, at higher loading rates performance decreased rapidly. It was found that the filter element of the reactor was highly efficient in retaining biomass, leading to a biomass accumulation yield coefficient of 0.029 g volatile suspended solids g–1 COD, higher than reported previously for either upflow anaerobic sludge-blanket reactors or anaerobic filters operating independently.  相似文献

Spectrophotometric titrations were conducted on the system horse heart ferricytochromec plus ferrohexacyanide in the pH range 5 to 7 and at temperatures 8, 18, 22 and 28°C. A difference extinction coefficient for reducedvs. oxidized cytochromec at 550 nm of 21 mmol–1cm–1 was used in part of the evaluations. On the assumption that only one electron-transferlinked proton dissociation is effective for both ferro- and ferricytochromec in this pH range, various possible models are developed with only three conforming with the experimental pH dependence of the spectrophotometric equilibrium constant. The data conform best to a model with protonic dissociation constants between pH 5 and 7 such that the reduced cytochromec species is at least a factor of 3 more acidic than the one for oxidized cytochromec (with pKH 6). This interpretation holds least for the data at 22°C, which points to a structural rearrangement at about this temperature (Czerlinski and Bracokova, 1973; Zabinski and Czerlinski, 1974; Zabinski, et al., 1974). While the extinction coefficient of ferrocytochromec shows no significant change with pH and temperature, the one for ferricytochromec does: it is about 5% larger at pH 5 than at pH 7 (550 nm). Graphs for the absorption change of ferricytochromec (pH 7 as reference) document the details over the wavelength range 500 to 750 nm.  相似文献

Summary Fifteen strains of yeast, which produced an extracellular amylolytic enzymes, were isolated from nature. One of them produced more than 100 times the enzyme activity in comparison with the 14 strains and the extremely hyperproducing strain of yeast was identified asCandida sp. 347. Paper chromatograms of the amylolytic enzyme demonstrated activity of amyloglucosidase. The optimum pH for activity of the enzyme was 5.5–6.0 and optimum temperature was 60°C.  相似文献

An up-flow anaerobic sludge blanket reactor–microbial fuel cell–biological aerated filter (UASB–MFC–BAF) system was developed for simultaneous bioelectricity generation and molasses wastewater treatment in this study. The maximum power density of 1410.2 mW/m2 was obtained with a current density of 4947.9 mA/m2 when the high strength molasses wastewater with chemical oxygen demand (COD) of 127,500 mg/l was employed as the influent. The total COD, sulfate and color removal efficiencies of the proposed system were achieved of 53.2%, 52.7% and 41.1%, respectively. Each unit of this system had respective function and performed well when integrated together. The UASB reactor unit was mainly responsible for COD removal and sulfate reduction, while the MFC unit was used for the oxidation of generated sulfide with electricity generation. The BAF unit dominated color removal and phenol derivatives degradation. This study is a beneficial attempt to combine MFC technology with conventional anaerobic–aerobic processes for actual wastewater treatment.  相似文献

Summary A broad pH range of 4.5–7.5 for maximum ethanol productivity and ethanol yield was observed with a passively immobilizedZ. mobilis system. Total retained biomass (as suspended flocs and entrapped cells) was >50 g/l for medium pH values between 4.0–8.0. The entrapped cells to suspended flocs ratio was highest at pH 4.0, whereas at pH above 5.2 it was close to 1.0. Summary A stepped-loading start-up regime utilising variable organic influent concentrations in the range 1650–11600 mgCOD1–1 was applied to an anaerobic fluidised bed bioreactor at 37°C. The reactor was sensitive to variable influent COD concentrations, but the stepped-loading aided rapid recovery from transient organic loading shocks. Variable effluent COD levels were produced but a COD removal efficiency of 76% was obtained at a final HRT of 0.5 d and an organic loading rate of 5.3 kg COD m–3 d–1.  相似文献
