Evolution of advanced manufacturing technologies and the new manufacturing paradigm has enriched the computer integrated manufacturing (CIM) methodology. The new advances have put more demands for CIM integration technology and associated supporting tools. One of these demands is to provide CIM systems with better software architecture, more flexible integration mechanisms, and powerful support platforms. In this paper, we present an integrating infrastructure for CIM implementation in manufacturing enterprises to form an integrated automation system. A research prototype of an integrating infrastructure has been developed for the development, integration, and operation of integrated CIM system. It is based on the client/server structure and employs object-oriented and agent technology. System openness, scalability, and maintenance are ensured by conforming to international standards and by using effective system design software and management tools.  相似文献

In this article, we present the design and implementation of a flexible manufacturing system (FMS) control platform based on a programmable logic controller (PLC) and a personal computer (PC)-based visual man-machine interface (MMI) and data acquisition (DAS) unit. The key aspect of an FMS is its flexibility to adapt to changes in a demanding process operation. The PLC provides feasible solutions to FMS applications, using PC-based MMI/DAS, whereby PLCs are optimized for executing rapid sequential control strategies. PCs running MMI/DAS front-ends make intuitive operation interfaces, full of powerful graphics and reporting tools. Information from the PC can be distributed through a company's local area network or web using client-server technologies. Currently, with the convergence of underlying microprocessor technology and software programming techniques, many users find that PLCs provide a cost-effective solution to real-time control in small- to medium-sized process plants, especially when combined with supervisory PCs using hybrid systems. The major work of this article demonstrates that PLCs are responsive to rapid and repetitious control tasks, using PCs that present the flow of information automation and accept operator instructions, thereby providing the user a tool to modify and monitor the process as the requirements change.  相似文献

The systems biology community is building increasingly complex models and simulations of cells and other biological entities, and are beginning to look at alternatives to traditional representations such as those provided by ordinary differential equations (ODE). The lessons learned over the years by the software development community in designing and building increasingly complex telecommunication and other commercial real-time reactive systems, can be advantageously applied to the problems of modeling in the biology domain. Making use of the object-oriented (OO) paradigm, the unified modeling language (UML) and Real-Time Object-Oriented Modeling (ROOM) visual formalisms, and the Rational Rose RealTime (RRT) visual modeling tool, we describe a multi-step process we have used to construct top–down models of cells and cell aggregates. The simple example model described in this paper includes membranes with lipid bilayers, multiple compartments including a variable number of mitochondria, substrate molecules, enzymes with reaction rules, and metabolic pathways. We demonstrate the relevance of abstraction, reuse, objects, classes, component and inheritance hierarchies, multiplicity, visual modeling, and other current software development best practices. We show how it is possible to start with a direct diagrammatic representation of a biological structure such as a cell, using terminology familiar to biologists, and by following a process of gradually adding more and more detail, arrive at a system with structure and behavior of arbitrary complexity that can run and be observed on a computer. We discuss our CellAK (Cell Assembly Kit) approach in terms of features found in SBML, CellML, E-CELL, Gepasi, Jarnac, StochSim, Virtual Cell, and membrane computing systems.  相似文献

Presented in the article is a method for constructing a graphical model of an FMS by using a new modeling tool called JR-net (Job Resource relation-net). JR-net is an object-oriented graphical tool for modeling automated manufacturing systems (AMSs), such as FMSs, FASs, and AS/RSs. As with the object-oriented modeling paradigm of Rumbaugh et al. (1991), the JR-net modeling framework supports the three stages of models: static layout model (object model); job flow model (functional model); and supervisory control model (dynamic model). In this article, the existing JR-net structure (Park 1992, Han et al., 1995) is extended further to make it a graphical tool for FMS modeling. Using the extended JR-net, a step-by-step procedure for constructing a graphical model of FMSs is presented. Also addressed are issues of classifying FMSs in terms of their generic functions and of utilizing the JR-net model of FMSs.  相似文献

The managerial and organization practices required by an increasingly dynamic competitive manufacturing, business, and industrial environment include the formation of “virtual enterprises.” A major concern in the management of virtual enterprises is the integration and coordination of business processes contributed by partner enterprises. The traditional methods of process modeling currently used for the design of business processes do not fully support the needs of the virtual enterprise. The design of these virtual enterprises imposes requirements that make it more complex than conventional intraorganizational business process design. This paper first describes an architecture that assists in the design of the virtual enterprise. Then it discusses business process reengineering (BPR) as a methodology for modeling and designing virtual organizations. While BPR presents many useful tools, the approach itself and the modeling tools commonly used for redesign have fundamental shortcomings when dealing with the virtual enterprise. However, several innovative modeling approaches provide promise for this problem. The paper discusses some of these innovative modeling approaches, such as object-oriented modeling of business processes, agent modeling of organizational players, and the use of ontological modeling to capture and manipulate knowledge about the players and processes. The paper concludes with a conceptual modeling methodology that combines these approaches under the enterprise architecture for the design of virtual enterprises.  相似文献

This paper presents a generic methodology based on formal language theory for the modeling and control of flexible manufacturing cell (FMC) systems. The motivating idea behind the overall approach stems from the supervisory control theory under the framework of Ramadge and Wonham. Essentially, we characterize the asynchronous and dynamic behavior of an FMC as a regular language and formulate the control logic generation problem as a sublanguage calculation problem, which requires the resulting language to satisfy at least two properties: maximal permissiveness and controllability. Then an algorithm for resolving the problem is presented. Based on the solution of the problem called supervisor, we propose a controller architecture that guarantees coordinated operation of an FMC through the regulation of occurrences of events. An adaptive control policy that regenerates supervisors on changes in task configurations is presented and a dynamic equation that describes the evolution of the control logic along time is derived. Then, we show that the proposed maximally permissive adaptive control policy has a number of preferred properties, including computational efficiency and consistency between the successive supervisors. Finally, a controller for an example FMC is implemented, using the object-oriented software modules. Our procedure has the merit of mathematical soundness, modular design, and systematic implementation.  相似文献

The growing availability of software tools has increased the speed of generating LCA studies. Databases and visual tools for constructing material balance modules greatly facilitate the process of analyzing the environmental aspects of product systems over their life cycle. A robust software tool, containing a large LCI dataset and functions for performing LCIA and sensitivity analysis will allow companies and LCA practitioners to conduct systems analyses efficiently and reliably. This paper discusses how the GaBi 3 software tool can be used to perform LCA and Life Cycle Engineering (LCE), a methodology that combines life cycle economic, environmental, and technology assessment. The paper highlights important attributes of LCA software tools, including high quality, well-documented data, transparency in modeling, and data analysis functionality. An example of a regional power grid mix model is used to illustrate the versatility of GaBi 3.  相似文献

MOTIVATION: Need for software to setup and analyze complex mathematical models for cellular systems in a modular way, that also integrates the experimental environment of the cells. RESULTS: A computer framework is described which allows the building of modularly structured models using an abstract, modular and general modeling methodology. With this methodology, reusable modeling entities are introduced which lead to the development of a modeling library within the modeling tool ProMot. The simulation environment Diva is used for numerical analysis and parameter identification of the models. The simulation environment provides a number of tools and algorithms to simulate and analyze complex biochemical networks. The described tools are the first steps towards an integrated computer-based modeling, simulation and visualization environment Availability: Available on request to the authors. The software itself is free for scientific purposes but requires commercial libraries. SUPPLEMENTARY INFORMATION: http://www.mpi-magdeburg.mpg.de/projects/promot  相似文献

Global competition, advancements in technology and ever changing customers’ demand have made the manufacturing companies to realize the importance of flexible manufacturing systems (FMS). These organizations are looking at FMS as a viable alternative to enhance their competitive edge. But, implementation of this universally accepted and challenging technology is not an easy task. A large number of articles have been reviewed and it is found that the existing literature lacks in providing a clear picture about the implementation of FMS. In this paper, work of various researchers has been studied and it is found that it is really a very difficult task for any organization to transform into FMS on the basis of existing research results. A wide gap exists between the proposed approaches/algorithms for the design of different components of FMS and the real-life complexities. Besides describing the gap in various issues related to FMS, some barriers, which inhibit the adaptation and implementation of FMS, have also been identified in this paper.  相似文献

Manufacturing multiple part types on a flexible manufacturing system (FMS) is increasingly becoming a rule rather than an exception. In such systems, attention has been drawn to the application of zero-defect technologies. However, in practice, this goal has remained elusive and costly. As a result, even though FMSs may be more reliable, producing fewer defective parts, system complexity and more stringent quality standards are rendering quality control in FMSs potentially useful. The goals of this article are threefold. First, we introduce a procedure for measuring and managing the in-process quality control of an FMS, which is described by an Open Queueing Network (OQN), bridging thereby a gap between queueing theory and quality control. Second, by focusing attention on the potential unreliabilities of FMSs, we provide some managerial insights regarding the role, position, and distribution of the quality control effort in an FMS. Finally, we stress the intricate relations between an FMS's operating characteristics and the manufactured quality and its control. Using numerical analyses, we draw some inferences regarding the design of such FMSs when both quality and quantity issues in the FMSs are considered. These simultaneous considerations of quantity and quality flows in an FMS have not been previously considered in the study of FMSs.  相似文献

Flexibility in part process representation and in highly adaptive routing algorithms are two major sources for improvement in the control of flexible manufacturing systems (FMSs). This article reports the investigation of the impact of these two kinds of flexibilities on the performance of the system. We argue that, when feasible, the choices of operations and sequencing of the part process plans should be deferred until detailed knowledge about the real-time factory state is available. To test our ideas, a flexible routing control simulation system (FRCS) was constructed and a programming language for modeling FMS part process plans, control strategies, and environments of the FMS was designed and implemented. In addition, a scheme for implementing flexible process routing called data flow dispatching rule (DFDR) was derived. The simulation results indicate that flexible processing can reduce mean flow time while increasing system throughput and machine utilization. We observed that this form of flexibility makes automatic load balancing of the machines possible. On the other hand, it also makes the control and scheduling process more complicated and calls for new control algorithms.  相似文献

The increased use of flexible manufacturing systems to provide customers with diversified products efficiently has created a significant set of operational challenges for managers. This technology poses a number of decision problems that need to be solved by researchers and practitioners. In the literature, there have been a number of attempts to solve design and operational problems. Special attention has been given to machine loading problems, which involve the assignment of job operations and allocation of tools and resources to optimize specific measures of productivity. Most existing studies focus on modeling the problem and developing heuristics in order to optimize certain performance metrics rather than on understanding the problem and the interaction between the different factors in the system. The objective of this paper is to study the machine loading problem. More specifically, we compare operation aggregation and disaggregation policies in a random flexible manufacturing system (FMS) and analyze its interaction with other factors such as routing flexibility, sequencing flexibility, machine load, buffer capacity, and alternative processing-time ratio. For this purpose, a simulation study is conducted and the results are analyzed by statistical methods. The analysis of results highlights the important factors and their levels that could yield near-optimal system performance.  相似文献

We present an analytical model for performance prediction of flexible manufacturing systems (FMSs) with a single discrete material-handling device (MHD). This configuration of FMS is significant for many reasons: it is commonly found in industry, it simplifies material-handling control, it is amenable to analytical modeling, and it forms a building block for more complex systems. Standard queueing models are inadequate to analyze this configuration because of the need to take into consideration many nontrivial issues such as state-dependent routing, interference from the MHD, and the analysis of the MHD. To account for state-dependent routing, we develop an iterative method that is built around mean value analysis. To analyze the MHD interference, we use two queueing network models. In the first, we ignore queueing at the MHD but model the interference from the MHD by inflating the station service times. The second network models the queueing for the MHD and estimates the blocking (inflation) times needed for the first model. By iterating between the two networks, we are able to predict the performance of this configuration of FMS. Our analytical estimates are validated against discrete event simulation and shown to be quite accurate for initial system design.  相似文献

This paper presents a critical evaluation of existing FMS architectures and the academic and industrial design and development strategies used during their formulation. The paper seeks to address the need for, and value of, existing architectures within the industrial arena. More importantly however, this paper puts forward a new two-tier distributed control architecture for FMS based upon new (real-time) networkable DSP servo control methodologies developed by one of the authors for Softronics in Australia. The ramifications of these methodologies are substantial, not only in terms of FMS control, but in the overall simplification of such systems and the development of flexible fixturing devices over the coming decade. This paper also postulates on how new FMS architectures can be developed from such technologies and details why such architectures could be more appropriate to industry needs than those that are currently in existence.  相似文献

Due to their increasing applicability in modern industry, flexible manufacturing systems (FMSs), their design, and their control have been studied extensively in the recent literature. One of the most important issues that has arisen in this context is the FMS scheduling problem. This article is concerned with a new model of an FMS system, motivated by the practical application that takes into account both machine and vehicle scheduling. For the case of a given machine schedule, a simple polynomial-time algorithm is presented that checks the feasibility of a vehicle schedule and constructs it whenever one exists. Then a dynamic programming approach to construct optimal machine and vehicle schedules is proposed. This technique results in a pseudopolynomialtime algorithm for a fixed number of machines.  相似文献

Oceanography and marine ecology have a considerable history in the use of computers for modeling both physical and ecological processes. With increasing stress on the marine environment due to human activities such as fisheries and numerous forms of pollution, the analysis of marine problems must increasingly and jointly consider physical, ecological and socio-economic aspects in a broader systems framework that transcends more traditional disciplinary boundaries. This often introduces difficult-to-quantify, “soft” elements, such as values and perceptions, into formal analysis. Thus, the problem domain combines a solid foundation in the physical sciences, with strong elements of ecological, socio-economic and political considerations. At the same time, the domain is also characterized by both a very large volume of some data, and an extremely datapoor situation for other variables, as well as a very high degree of uncertainty, partly due to the temporal and spatial heterogeneity of the marine environment. Consequently, marine systems analysis and management require tools that can integrate these diverse aspects into efficient information systems that can support research as well as planning and also policy- and decisionmaking processes. Supporting scientific research, as well as decision-making processes and the diverse groups and actors involved, requires better access and direct understanding of the information basis as well as easy-to-use, but powerful tools for analysis. Advanced information technology provides the tools to design and implement smart software where, in a broad sense, the emphasis is on the man-machine interface. Symbolic and analogous, graphical interaction, visual representation of problems, integrated data sources, and built-in domain knowledge can effectively support users of complex and complicated software systems. Integration, interaction, visualization and intelligence are key concepts that are discussed in detail, using an operational software example of a coastal water quality model. The model comprises components of a geographical information and mapping system, data bases, dynamic simulation models, and an integrated expert system. An interactive graphical user interface, dynamic visualization of model results, and a hyper-text-based help-and-explain system illustrate some of the features of new and powerful software tools for marine systems analysis and modeling.  相似文献

Loading in flexible manufacturing systems (FMSs) is affected by the characteristics of the FMS under analysis, by the type of plant where the FMS is introduced, and by the production planning hierarchy where the loading module operates. We propose an analysis of the various aspects that influence the problem formulation, identifying the alternatives available in real systems and possible future evolutions. We then provide a survey of different approaches proposed in the literature to tackle the loading problem. Articles are classified according to the type of FMS analyzed, the objective function, and the constraints. Finally, based on our analysis, we suggest some problem issues which need to be addressed, and also directions for future research.  相似文献

Through radical redesign of business processes and systems, policies, and organizational structures, the business process reengineering (BPR) effort was initiated in the manufacturing industry to seek performance breakthroughs. This paper describes a novel approach to the BPR, which applies flexible manufacturing systems (FMSs) design and analysis technologies, such as simulation, multicriteria decision support, and artificial intelligence (AI). These technologies are integrated to design and analyze specific FMS models related to the proposed technical and managerial changes in an industrial case. First, the literature is reviewed to obtain an understanding of the BPR concept and the role of FMS design and analysis in BPR. Second, a decision-making support system is developed to illustrate how the FMS design and analysis would affect BPR. Finally, a summary of the integrated approach practice in industry and conclusions are presented. The paper shows that the key to a successful BPR approach is the identification and analysis of specific proposed models. It also demonstrates that the integrated approach enables engineers to improve the efficiency of BPR.  相似文献

This paper reports our exploratory work to redesign, implementand integrate a collection of genome software tools with anobject-oriented database system. Our software tools deal withgenome data from Escherichia coli K-12, a bacterium that hasbeen studied intensively and provides richer data sets thanany other living organism. The object-oriented DBMS used forthe integration is ONTOS, a commercial object-oriented systemfrom Ontologic Inc. This redesign and implementation task wasperformed in two steps. First, Cprograms were converted intoC+ +, and then the C+ + version programs were modified and integratedwith an object-oriented modeling of the data to form an ONTOSdatabase application. The first step helps us develop a conceptualview for a DBMS-independent object-oriented construct. The secondstep elucidates what additional DBMS-dependent modificationsteps are needed to provide persistency to the objects. Examplesare included to illustrate steps of the redesign and implementation.Overall, the outcome of this project demonstrates that programsand data can be successfully integrated with an object-orienteddatabase, while providing the objects with persistency and shareability. This paper includes discussions using concrete examples on whatadvantage the object–oriented database approach providesover the relational database approach.  相似文献
