Thirteen male volunteers performed cycle ergometer maximal oxygen uptake (VO2max tests) in moderate (21 degrees C, 30% rh) and hot (49 degrees C, 20% rh) environments, before and after a 9-day heat acclimation program. This program resulted in significantly decreased (P less than 0.01) final heart rate (24 bt X min-1) and rectal temperature (0.4 degrees C) from the first to last day of acclimation. The VO2max was lower (P less than 0.01) in the hot environment relative to the moderate environment both before (8%) and after (7%) acclimation with no significant difference (P greater than 0.05) shown for maximal power output (PO max, watts) between environments either before or after acclimation. The VO2max was higher (P less than 0.01) by 4% after acclimation in both environments. Also, PO max was higher (P less than 0.05) after acclimation in both the moderate (4%) and hot (2%) environments. The reduction in VO2max in the hot compared to moderate environment was not related to the difference in core temperature at VO2max between moderate and hot trials, nor was it strongly related with aerobic fitness level. These findings indicate that heat stress, per se, reduced the VO2max. Further, the reduction in VO2max due to heat was not affect be state of heat acclimation, the degree of elevation in core temperature, or level of aerobic fitness.  相似文献

The relationship between exercise performance and lactate and ventilatory thresholds under two distinct environmental conditions is unknown. We examined the relationships between six lactate threshold methods (blood- and ventilation-based) and exercise performance in cyclists in hot and cool environments. Twelve cyclists performed a lactate threshold test, a maximal O(2) uptake (Vo(2max)) test, and a 1-h time trial in hot (38°C) and cool (13°C) conditions, before and after heat acclimation. Eight control subjects completed the same tests before and after 10 days of identical exercise in a cool environment. The highest correlations were observed with the blood-based lactate indexes; however, even the indirect ventilation-based indexes were well correlated with mean power during the time trial. Averaged bias was 15.4 ± 3.6 W higher for the ventilation- than the blood-based measures (P < 0.05). The bias of blood-based measures in the hot condition was increased: the time trial was overestimated by 37.7 ± 3.6 W compared with only 24.1 ± 3.2 W in the cool condition (P < 0.05). Acclimation had no effect on the bias of the blood-based indexes (P = 0.51) but exacerbated the overestimation by some ventilation-based indexes by an additional 34.5 ± 14.1 W (P < 0.05). Blood-based methods to determine lactate threshold show less bias and smaller variance than ventilation-based methods when predicting time-trial performance in cool environments. Of the blood-based methods, the inflection point between steady-state lactate and rising lactate (INFL) was the best method to predict time-trial performance. Lastly, in the hot condition, ventilation-based predictions are less accurate after heat acclimation, while blood-based predictions remain valid in both environments after heat acclimation.  相似文献

This study examined the effects of heat acclimation and subject gender on treadmill exercise in comfortable (20 degrees C, 40% rh), hot-dry (49 degrees C, 20% rh), and hot-wet (35 degrees C, 79% rh) environments while subjects were hypo- or euhydrated. Six male and six female subjects, matched for maximal aerobic power and percent body fat, completed two exercise tests in each environment both before and after a 10-day heat acclimation program. One exercise test was completed during euhydration and one during hypohydration (-5.0% from baseline body weight). In general, no significant (P greater than 0.05) differences were noted between men and women at the completion of exercise for rectal temperature (Tre), mean skin temperature (Tsk), or heat rate (HR) during any of the experimental conditions. Hypohydration generally increased Tre and HR values and decreased sweat rate values while not altering Tsk values. In the hypohydration experiments, heat acclimation significantly reduced Tre (0.19 degrees C) and HR (13 beats X min-1) values in the comfortable environment, but only HR values were reduced in hot-dry (21 beats X min-1) and hot-wet (21 beats X min-1) environments. The present findings indicated that men and women respond in a physiologically similar manner to hypohydration during exercise. They also indicated that for hypohydrated subjects heat acclimation decreased thermoregulatory and cardiovascular strain in a comfortable environment, but only cardiovascular strain decreased in hot environments.  相似文献

Substrate utilization in leg muscle of men after heat acclimation   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
Eight men were heat acclimated (39.6 degrees C and 29.2% rh) for 8 days to examine changes in substrate utilization. A heat exercise test (HET), (cycling for 60 min; 50% maximal O2 consumption) was performed before (UN-HET) and after (ACC-HET) the acclimation period. Muscle glycogen utilization (67.0 vs. 37.6 mmol/kg wet wt), respiratory exchange ratio (0.85 +/- 0.002 vs. 0.83 +/- 0.001), and calculated rate of carbohydrate oxidation (75.15 +/- 1.38 vs. 64.80 +/- 1.52 g/h) were significantly reduced (P less than 0.05) during the ACC-HET. Significantly lower (P less than 0.05) femoral venous glucose (15, 30, and 45 min) and lactate (15 min) levels were observed during the ACC-HET. No differences were observed in plasma free fatty acid (FFA) and glycerol concentrations or glucose, lactate and glycerol arteriovenous uptake/release between tests. A small but significant increase (P less than 0.05) above resting levels in FFA uptake was observed during the ACC-HET. Leg blood flow was slightly greater (P greater than 0.05) during the ACC-HET (4.64 +/- 0.13 vs. 4.80 +/- 0.13 l/min). These findings indicate a reduced use of muscle glycogen following heat acclimation. However, the decrease is not completely explained by a shift toward greater lipid oxidation or increased blood flow.  相似文献

The effect of heat acclimatization on aerobic exercise tolerance in the heat and on subsequent sprint exercise performance was investigated. Before (UN) and after (ACC) 8 days of heat acclimatization, 10 male subjects performed a heat-exercise test (HET) consisting of 6 h of intermittent submaximal [50% of the maximal O2 uptake] exercise in the heat (39.7 degrees C dB, 31.0% relative humidity). A 45-s maximal cycle ride was performed before (sprint 1) and after (sprint 2) each HET. Mean muscle glycogen use during the HET was lower following acclimatization [ACC = 28.6 +/- 6.4 (SE) and UN = 57.4 +/- 5.1 mmol/kg; P less than 0.05]. No differences were noted between the UN and ACC trials with respect to blood glucose, lactate (LA), or respiratory exchange ratio. During the UN trial only, total work output during sprint 2 was reduced compared with sprint 1 (24.01 +/- 0.80 vs. 21.56 +/- 1.18 kJ; P less than 0.05). This reduction in sprint performance was associated with an attenuated fall in muscle pH following sprint 2 (6.86 vs. 6.67, P less than 0.05) and a reduced accumulation of LA in the blood. These data indicate that heat acclimatization produced a shift in fuel selection during submaximal exercise in the heat. The observed sparing of muscle glycogen may be associated with the enhanced ability to perform highly intense exercise following prolonged exertion in the heat.  相似文献

To determine the effects of acute heat stress, heat acclimation and hypohydration on the gastric emptying rate of water (W) during treadmill exercise, ten physically fit men ingested 400 ml of W before each of three 15 min bouts of exercise (treadmill, approximately 50% VO2max) on five separate occasions. Stomach contents were aspirated after each exercise bout. Before heat acclimation (ACC), experiments were performed in a neutral (18 degrees C), hot (49 degrees C) and warm (35 degrees C) environment. Subjects were euhydrated for all experiments before ACC. After ACC, the subjects completed two more experiments in the warm (35 degrees C) environment; one while euhydrated and a final one while hypohydrated (-5% of body weight). The volume of ingested water emptied into the intestines at the completion of each exercise bout was inversely correlated (P less than 0.01) with the rectal temperature (r = -0.76). The following new observations were made: 1) exercise in a hot (49 degrees C) environment impairs gastric emptying rate as compared with a neutral (18 degrees C) environment, 2) exercise in a warm (35 degrees C) environment does not significantly reduce gastric emptying before or after heat acclimation, but 3) exercise in a warm environment (35 degrees C) when hypohydrated reduces gastric emptying rate and stomach secretions. Reductions in gastric emptying appear to be related to the severity of the thermal strain induced by an exercise/heat stress.  相似文献

This study investigates the effects of a short-term aerobic training program in a hot environment on thermoregulation, blood parameters, sweat secretion and composition in tropic-dwellers who have been exposed to passive heat. Sixteen healthy Malaysian-Malay male volunteers underwent heat acclimation (HA) by exercising on a bicycle ergometer at 60% of VO2max for 60 min each day in a hot environment (Ta: 31.1+/-0.1 degrees C, rh: 70.0+/-4.4%) for 14 days. All parameters mentioned above were recorded on Day 1 and at the end of HA (Day 16). On these two days, subjects rested for 10 min, then cycled at 60% of VO2max for 60 min and rested again for 20 min (recovery) in an improvised heat chamber. Rectal temperature (Tre), mean skin temperature (Tsk) heart rate (HR), ratings of perceived exertion (RPE), thermal sensation (TS), local sweat rate and percent dehydration were recorded during the test. Sweat concentration was analysed for sodium [Na+]sweat and potassium. Blood samples were analysed for biochemical changes, electrolytes and hematologic indices. Urine samples were collected before and after each test and analysed for electrolytes.After the period of acclimation the percent dehydration during exercise significantly increased from 1.77+/-0.09% (Day 1) to 2.14+/-0.07% (Day 16). Resting levels of hemoglobin, hematocrit and red blood cells decreased significantly while [Na+]sweat increased significantly. For Tre and Tsk there were no differences at rest. Tre, HR, RPE, TS, plasma lactate concentration, hemoglobin and hematocrit at the 40th min of exercise were significantly lower after the period of acclimation but mean corpuscular hemoglobin and serum osmolality were significantly higher while no difference was seen in [Na+]sweat and Tsk. It can be concluded that tropic-dwelling subjects, although exposed to prolonged passive heat exposure, were not fully heat acclimatized. To achieve further HA, they should gradually expose themselves to exercise-heat stress in a hot environment.  相似文献

This study examined the question of whether increases in plasma volume (hypervolemia) induced through exercise affect muscle substrate utilization and muscle bioenergetics during prolonged heavy effort. Six untrained males (19-24 yr) were studied before and after 3 consecutive days of cycling (2 h/day at 65% of peak O2 consumption) performed in a cool environment (22-23 degrees C, 25-35% relative humidity). This protocol resulted in a 21.2% increase in plasma volume (P less than 0.05). During exercise no difference was found in the blood concentrations of glucose, lactate, and plasma free fatty acids at either 30, 60, 90, or 120 min of exercise before and after the hypervolemia. In contrast, blood alanine was higher (P less than 0.05) during both rest and exercise with hypervolemia. Measurement of muscle samples extracted by biopsy from the vastus lateralis muscle at rest and at 60 and 120 min of exercise indicated no effect of training on high-energy phosphate metabolism (ATP, ADP, creatine phosphate, creatine) or on selected glycolytic intermediate concentrations (glucose 1-phosphate, glucose 6-phosphate, fructose 6-phosphate, lactate). In contrast, training resulted in higher (P less than 0.05) muscle glucose and muscle glycogen concentrations. These changes were accompanied by blunting of the exercise-induced increase (P less than 0.05) in both blood epinephrine and norepinephrine concentrations. Plasma glucagon and serum insulin were not affected by the training. The results indicate that exercise-induced hypervolemia did not alter muscle energy homeostasis. The reduction in muscle glycogen utilization appears to be an early adaptive response to training mediated either by an increase in blood glucose utilization or a decrease in anaerobic glycolysis.  相似文献

The aim of the present study was to test the hypothesis that the oxidation rate of ingested carbohydrate (CHO) is impaired during exercise in the heat compared with a cool environment. Nine trained cyclists (maximal oxygen consumption 65 +/- 1 ml x kg body wt(-1) x min(-1)) exercised on two different occasions for 90 min at 55% maximum power ouptput at an ambient temperature of either 16.4 +/- 0.2 degrees C (cool trial) or 35.4 +/- 0.1 degrees C (heat trial). Subjects received 8% glucose solutions that were enriched with [U-13C]glucose for measurements of exogenous glucose, plasma glucose, liver-derived glucose and muscle glycogen oxidation. Exogenous glucose oxidation during the final 30 min of exercise was significantly (P < 0.05) lower in the heat compared with the cool trial (0.76 +/- 0.06 vs. 0.84 +/- 0.05 g/min). Muscle glycogen oxidation during the final 30 min of exercise was increased by 25% in the heat (2.07 +/- 0.16 vs. 1.66 +/- 0.09 g/min; P < 0.05), and liver-derived glucose oxidation was not different. There was a trend toward a higher total CHO oxidation and a lower plasma glucose oxidation in the heat although this did not reach statistical significance (P = 0.087 and P = 0.082, respectively). These results demonstrate that the oxidation rate of ingested CHO is reduced and muscle glycogen utilization is increased during exercise in the heat compared with a cool environment.  相似文献

The effects of repeated cold water immersion on thermoregulatory responses to cold air were studied in seven males. A cold air stress test (CAST) was performed before and after completion of an acclimation program consisting of daily 90-min cold (18 degrees C) water immersion, repeated 5 times/wk for 5 consecutive wk. The CAST consisted of resting 30 min in a comfortable [24 degrees C, 30% relative humidity (rh)] environment followed by 90 min in cold (5 degrees C, 30% rh) air. Pre- and postacclimation, metabolism (M) increased (P less than 0.01) by 85% during the first 10 min of CAST and thereafter rose slowly. After acclimation, M was lower (P less than 0.02) at 10 min of CAST compared with before, but by 30 min M was the same. Therefore, shivering onset may have been delayed following acclimation. After acclimation, rectal temperature (Tre) was lower (P less than 0.01) before and during CAST, and the drop in Tre during CAST was greater (P less than 0.01) than before. Mean weighted skin temperature (Tsk) was lower (P less than 0.01) following acclimation than before, and acclimation resulted in a larger (P less than 0.02) Tre-to-Tsk gradient. Plasma norepinephrine increased during both CAST (P less than 0.002), but the increase was larger (P less than 0.004) following acclimation. These findings suggest that repeated cold water immersion stimulates development of true cold acclimation in humans as opposed to habituation. The cold acclimation produced appears to be of the insulative type.  相似文献

To determine whether increases in muscle mitochondrial capacity are necessary for the characteristic lower exercise glycogen loss and lactate concentration observed during exercise in the trained state, we have employed a short-term training model involving 2 h of cycling per day at 67% maximal O2 uptake (VO2max) for 5-7 consecutive days. Before and after training, biopsies were extracted from the vastus lateralis of nine male subjects during a continuous exercise challenge consisting of 30 min of work at 67% VO2max followed by 30 min at 76% VO2max. Analysis of samples at 0, 15, 20, and 60 min indicated a pronounced reduction (P less than 0.05) in glycogen utilization after training. Reductions in glycogen utilization were accompanied by reductions (P less than 0.05) in muscle lactate concentration (mmol/kg dry wt) at 15 min [37.4 +/- 9.3 (SE) vs. 20.2 +/- 5.3], 30 min (30.5 +/- 6.9 vs. 17.6 +/- 3.8), and 60 min (26.5 +/- 5.8 vs. 17.8 +/- 3.5) of exercise. Maximal aerobic power, VO2max (l/min) was unaffected by the training (3.99 +/- 0.21 vs. 4.05 +/- 0.26). Measurements of maximal activities of enzymes representative of the citric acid cycle (succinic dehydrogenase and citrate synthase) were similar before and after the training. It is concluded that, in the voluntary exercising human, altered metabolic events are an early adaptive response to training and need not be accompanied by changes in muscle mitochondrial capacity.  相似文献

Nine bodybuilders performed heavy-resistance exercise activating the quadriceps femoris muscle. Intermittent 30-s exhaustive exercise bouts comprising 6-12 repetitions were interspersed with 60-s periods for 30 min. Venous blood samples were taken repeatedly during and after exercise for analyses of plasma free fatty acid (FFA) and glycerol concentration. Muscle biopsies were obtained from the vastus lateralis muscle before and after exercise and assayed for glycogen, glycerol-3-phosphate, lactate and triglyceride (TG) content. The activities of citrate synthase (CS), lactate dehydrogenase, hexokinase (HK), myokinase, creatine kinase and 3-hydroxyacyl-CoA dehydrogenase (HAD), were analysed. Histochemical staining procedures were used to assess fibre type composition, fibre area and capillary density. TG content before and after exercise averaged (SD) 23.9 (13.3) and 16.7 (6.4) mmol kg-1 dry wt. The basal triglyceride content varied sixfold among individuals and the higher the levels the greater was the change during exercise. The glycogen content decreased (P less than 0.001) from 690 (82) to 495 (95) mmol kg-1 dry wt. and lactate and glycerol-3-phosphate increased (P less than 0.001) to 79.5 (5.5) and 14.5 (7.3) mmol kg-1 dry wt., respectively, after exercise. The HK and HAD/CS content respectively correlated with glycogen or TG content at rest and with changes in these metabolites during exercise. FFA and glycerol concentrations increased slightly (P less than 0.001) during exercise. Lipolysis may, therefore, provide energy during heavy-resistance exercise of relatively short duration. Also, storage and utilization of intramuscular substrates appear to be influenced by the metabolic profile of muscle.  相似文献

Epinephrine increases glycogenolysis in resting skeletal muscle, but less is known about the effects of epinephrine on exercising muscle. To study this, epinephrine was given intraarterially to one leg during two-legged cycle exercise in nine healthy males. The epinephrine-stimulated (EPI) and non-stimulated (C) legs were compared with regard to glycogen, glucose, glucose 6-phosphate (G6P), alpha-glycerophosphate (alpha-GP), and lactate contents in muscle biopsies taken before and after the 45-min submaximal exercise, as well as brachial arterial-femoral venous (a-fv) differences for epinephrine, norepinephrine, lactate, glucose, and O2 during exercise. During exercise the arterial plasma epinephrine concentration was 4.8 +/- 0.8 nmol/l and the femoral venous epinephrine concentrations were 10.3 +/- 2.1 and 3.9 +/- 0.6 nmol/l, respectively, in the EPI and C leg. During exercise the a-fv difference for lactate was greater (-0.41 +/- 0.14 vs. -0.21 +/- 0.14 mmol/l; P less than 0.001), and the a-fv difference for glucose was smaller (0.07 +/- 0.12 vs. 0.24 +/- 0.12 mmol/l; P less than 0.01) in the EPI than in the C leg, but the a-fv differences for O2 were similar. Muscle glycogen depletion (137 +/- 63 vs. 99 +/- 43 mmol/kg dry muscle; P less than 0.1) and the muscle concentrations of glucose (P less than 0.05), alpha-GP (P less than 0.1), G6P (P greater than 0.1), and lactate (P greater than 0.1) tended to be higher in the EPI than the C leg after exercise. These findings suggest that physiological concentrations of epinephrine may enhance muscle glycogenolysis during submaximal exercise in male subjects.  相似文献

Muscle blood flow and muscle metabolism during exercise and heat stress   总被引:6,自引:0,他引:6  
The effect of heat stress on blood flow and metabolism in an exercising leg was studied in seven subjects walking uphill (12-17%) at 5 km/h on a treadmill for 90 min or until exhaustion. The first 30 min of exercise were performed in a cool environment (18-21 degrees C); then subjects moved to an adjacent room at 40 degrees C and continued to exercise at the same speed and inclination for a further 60 min or to exhaustion, whichever occurred first. The rate of O2 consumption, 2.6 l/min (1.8-3.3) (average from cool and hot conditions), corresponded to 55-77% of their individual maximums. In the cool environment a steady state was reached at 30 min. When the subjects were shifted to the hot room, the core temperature and heart rate started to rise and reached values greater than 39 degrees C and near-maximal values, respectively, at the termination of the exercise. The leg blood flow (thermodilution method), femoral arteriovenous O2 difference, and consequently leg O2 consumption were unchanged in the hot compared with the cool condition. There was no increase in release of lactate and no reduction in glucose and free net fatty acid uptake in the exercising leg in the heat. Furthermore, the rate of glycogen utilization in the gastrocnemius muscle was not elevated in the hot environment. There was a tendency for cardiac output to increase in the heat (mean 15.2 to 18.4 l/min), which may have contributed to the increase in skin circulation, together with a possible further reduction in flow to other vascular beds, because muscle blood flow was not reduced.(ABSTRACT TRUNCATED AT 250 WORDS)  相似文献

The effects of intramuscular glycogen availability on human temperature regulation were studied in eight seminude subjects immersed in 18 degrees C water for 90 min or until rectal temperature (Tre) decreased to 35.5 degrees C. Each subject was immersed three times over a 3-wk period. Each immersion followed 2.5 days of a specific dietary and/or exercise regimen designed to elicit low (L), normal (N), or high (H) glycogen levels in large skeletal muscle groups. Muscle glycogen concentration was determined in biopsies taken from the vastus lateralis muscle before and after each immersion. Intramuscular glycogen concentration before the immersion was significantly different among the L, N, and H trials (P less than 0.01), averaging 247 +/- 15, 406 +/- 23, and 548 +/- 42 (SE) mmol glucose units.kg dry muscle-1, respectively. The calculated metabolic heat production during the first 30 min of immersion was significantly lower during L compared with N or H (P less than 0.05). The rate at which Tre decreased was more rapid during the L immersion than either N or H (P less than 0.05), and the time during the immersion at which Tre first began to decrease also appeared sooner during L than N or H. The results suggest that low skeletal muscle glycogen levels are associated with more rapid body cooling during water immersion in humans. Higher than normal muscle glycogen levels, however, do not increase cold tolerance.  相似文献

In an effort to assess the effects of environmental heat stress on muscle metabolism during exercise, 6 men performed work in the heat (Tdb = 44 degrees C, RH = 15%) and cold (Tdb = 9 degrees C, RH = 55%). Exercise consisted of three 15-min cycling bouts at 70 to 85% VO2max, with 10-min rest between each. Muscle biopsies obtained from the vastus lateralis before and after each work bout were analyzed for glycogen and triglyceride content. Venous blood samples drawn before and after exercise were assayed for lactate, glucose, free fatty acids, hemoglobin, and hematocrit. Oxygen uptake, heart rates and rectal temperatures were all significantly higher during exercise in the heat. Blood lactate concentration was roughly twice as great during the heat experiments as that measured in the 9 degrees C environment. Muscle glycogen utilization per 60 min was significantly greater in the heat ( - 74 m moles/kg-wet muscle) as compared to the cold exercise (- 42 m moles/kg-wet muscle). On the average, muscle triglyceride declined 23% during exercise in the cold and 11% in the heat. The findings of an enhanced glycolysis during exercise in the heat is compatible with earlier studies which demonstrate a decreased availability of oxygen due to a reduction in muscle blood flow.  相似文献

Thermal stress is known to impair endurance capacity during moderate prolonged exercise. However, there is relatively little available information concerning the effects of thermal stress on the performance of high-intensity short-duration exercise. The present experiment examined human power output during repeated bouts of short-term maximal exercise. On two separate occasions, seven healthy males performed two 30-s bouts of sprint exercise (sprints I and II), with 4 min of passive recovery in between, on a cycle ergometer. The sprints were performed in both a normal environment [18.7 (1.5) degrees C, 40 (7)% relative humidity (RH; mean SD)] and a hot environment [30.1 (0.5) degrees C, 55 (9)% RH]. The order of exercise trials was randomised and separated by a minimum of 4 days. Mean power, peak power and decline in power output were calculated from the flywheel velocity after correction for flywheel acceleration. Peak power output was higher when exercise was performed in the heat compared to the normal environment in both sprint I [910 (172) W vs 656 (58) W; P < 0.01] and sprint II [907 (150) vs 646 (37) W; P < 0.05]. Mean power output was higher in the heat compared to the normal environment in both sprint I [634 (91) W vs 510 (59) W; P < 0.05] and sprint II [589 (70) W vs 482 (47) W; P < 0.05]. There was a faster rate of fatigue (P < 0.05) when exercise was performed in the heat compared to the normal environment. Arterialised-venous blood samples were taken for the determination of acid-base status and blood lactate and blood glucose before exercise, 2 min after sprint I, and at several time points after sprint II. Before exercise there was no difference in resting acid-base status or blood metabolites between environmental conditions. There was a decrease in blood pH, plasma bicarbonate and base excess after sprint I and after sprint II. The degree of post-exercise acidosis was similar when exercise was performed in either of the environmental conditions. The metabolic response to exercise was similar between environmental conditions; the concentration of blood lactate increased (P < 0.01) after sprint I and sprint II but there were no differences in lactate concentration when comparing the exercise bouts performed in a normal and a hot environment. The purpose of this study was to investigate the hypothesis that a single, extended session of heavy exercise would be effective in inducing adaptations in energy metabolism during exercise in the absence of increases in oxidative potential. Ten healthy males [maximal aerobic power (VO(2 peak)) = 43.4 +/- 2.2 (SE) ml x kg(-1) x min(-1)] participated in a 16-h training session involving cycling for 6 min each hour at approximately 90% of maximal oxygen consumption. Measurements of metabolic changes were made on tissue extracted from the vastus lateralis during a two-stage standardized submaximal cycle protocol before (Pre) and 36-48 h after (Post) the training session. At Pre, creatine phosphate (PCr) declined (P < 0.05) by 32% from 0 to 3 min and then remained stable until 20 min of exercise at 60% VO(2 peak) before declining (P < 0.05) by a further 35% during 20 min of exercise at 75% VO(2 peak). Muscle lactate (mmol/kg dry wt) progressively increased (P < 0.05) from 4.59 +/- 0.64 at 0 min to 17.8 +/- 2.7 and 30.9 +/- 5.3 at 3 and 40 min, respectively, whereas muscle glycogen (mmol glucosyl units/kg dry wt) declined (P < 0.05) from a rest value of 360 +/- 24 to 276 +/- 31 and 178 +/- 36 at similar time points. During exercise after the training session, PCr and glycogen were not as depressed (P < 0.05), and increases in muscle lactate were blunted (P < 0.05). All of these changes occurred in the absence of increases in oxidative potential as measured by the maximal activities of citrate synthase and malate dehydrogenase. These findings are consistent with other studies, namely, that muscle metabolic adaptations to regular exercise are an early adaptive event that occurs before increases in oxidative potential.  相似文献

本实验测定了5条狗的无氧阈值,运动耐受时间、衰竭时的血乳酸浓度及运动中的肌糖原消耗量。结果如下:无氧阈值,1.与运动耐受时间呈正相关(r=0.947,P<0.02);2.与运动中肌糖原消耗量呈负相关(r=-0.959,P<0.01);3.与衰竭时的血乳酸浓度呈负相关(r=-0.942,P<0.02)。实验结果提示,无氧阈值是反映机体耐力的可靠指标。而运动中肌糖原消耗少,血乳酸积累程度轻,可能是无氧阈值之所以能够反映机体耐力的物质基础。  相似文献

Fourteen competitive cyclists who possessed a similar maximum O2 consumption (VO2 max; range, 4.6-5.0 l/min) were compared regarding blood lactate responses, glycogen usage, and endurance during submaximal exercise. Seven subjects reached their blood lactate threshold (LT) during exercise of a relatively low intensity (group L) (i.e., 65.8 +/- 1.7% VO2 max), whereas exercise of a relatively high intensity was required to elicit LT in the other seven men (group H) (i.e., 81.5 +/- 1.8% VO2 max; P less than 0.001). Time to fatigue during exercise at 88% of VO2 max was more than twofold longer in group H compared with group L (60.8 +/- 3.1 vs. 29.1 +/- 5.0 min; P less than 0.001). Over 92% of the variance in performance was related to the % VO2 max at LT and muscle capillary density. The vastus lateralis muscle of group L was stressed more than that of group H during submaximal cycling (i.e., 79% VO2 max), as reflected by more than a twofold greater (P less than 0.001) rate of glycogen utilization and blood lactate concentration. The quality of the vastus lateralis in groups H and L was similar regarding mitochondrial enzyme activity, whereas group H possessed a greater percentage of type I muscle fibers (66.7 +/- 5.2 vs. 46.9 +/- 3.8; P less than 0.01). The differing metabolic responses to submaximal exercise observed between the two groups appeared to be specific to the leg extension phase of cycling, since the blood lactate responses of the two groups were comparable during uphill running.
