Abstract. 1. The seasonal distribution of macrolepidopteran species richness on Finnish deciduous trees vaned from positively skewed (peak in spring) to negatively skewed (peak in autumn).
2. The skewness values of species richness had a significant negative correlation ( r = - 0.98) with the duration of the seasonal shoot-growth period of the tree species.
3. Trees which complete their shoot growth early in the season ( Quercus type) produce new leaves only during spring, while trees whose shoot growth continues to autumn ( Populus type) do so throughout the summer.
4. Consequently, there is a difference in the number of available resources in the late summer foliage of different tree species, Trees ceasing leaf production early such as oak ( Quercus robur ) and bird cherry ( Prunus padus ) have one major resource type (mature leaves) in late-season foliage while trees like birches and alders have two Ooung and mature leaves).
5. Because young leaves formed late in the season are preferred to mature ones by some species of herbivores and because other species prefer mature leaves at the same time, the species richness of Populus-type trees is higher later in the season than the species richness of Quercus-type of trees, which have just one type of resource available.  相似文献

Dynamics of abundance and diversity of epiphytic yeasts in entomophilic flowers of 28 species of meadow, forest, and cultivated plants throughout their blooming period was determined. The number of yeasts in the flowers was shown to increase gradually during the vegetation period, and reached the maximum during summer-autumn. The total abundance and ratio of the yeast species in the flowers depended entirely on the blooming time, rather than on the taxonomic position of the plants. Three stages of development of the entomophilic yeast complexes during the vegetation period may be discerned: predominance of eurybiont nonspecific species (Cryptococcus albidus, Debaryomyces hansenii) in spring, mass development of specific nectar-associated yeasts (Metschnikowia reukaufii) in summer, and their substitution by widespread epiphytic species (Rhodotorula mucilaginosa, Cryptococcus magnus) in autumn.  相似文献

Two study plots, burned and control, were established in autumn 1998 in a Quercus ilex forest located in northern Spain, part of which had been affected by a low intensity fire in 1994. Soil samples for ectomycorrhizae (ECM) were taken over a 3-year period in each study plot in spring, summer, autumn and winter. ECM morphotypes were identified and the relative abundance of each morphotype in each soil sample calculated, along with species richness, Shannon diversity index and percentage of mycorrhization in each soil sample. The relative abundance of certain ECM morphotypes differed between burned and control plots, and the percentage of mycorrhizal tips was significantly lower in the burned than in the control plot. Nevertheless, there were no significant differences in the diversity, species richness or species composition of the ECM community in the burned and control plots. The dominant ECM morphotypes in both stands were Cenococcum geophilum and several thelephoroid fungi. Sphaerosporella brunnea and Pisolithus tinctorius thrived especially in the burned plot, whereas three ectomycorrhizal morphotypes assigned to the genus Hebeloma were especially abundant in the control plot. There was no significant variation in the relative abundance of the ECM morphotypes between seasons, but ECM community species richness was highest in autumn and lowest in summer. The percentage of mycorrhizal tips reached a maximum in winter, with its minimum in autumn. Collection of samples over the 3-year period also enabled us to detect a significant increase in percentage of ECM colonisation in the burned stand over time.  相似文献

* Here we investigated photosynthetic traits of evergreen species under a deciduous canopy in a temperate forest and revealed the importance of CO2 assimilation during winter for annual CO2 assimilation. * Saplings were shaded by the canopy trees from spring through to autumn, but were less shaded during the winter months. Photosynthetic rates at light saturation (Aarea) were lower during winter than during the growing season. Aarea was higher in Camellia, Ilex and Photinia than in Castanopsis, Cleyera and Quercus during the winter, but differed little during summer and autumn. * Estimated daily CO2 assimilation (Aday) was higher during the winter than during the growing season in Camellia, Ilex and Photinia but was higher than that during the growing season only at the beginning and end of winter in Castanopsis, Cleyera and Quercus. Aday was higher in Camellia, Ilex and Photinia than in Castanopsis, Cleyera and Quercus but differed little among them during the growing season. * These results reveal the importance of winter CO2 assimilation for the growth of Camellia, Ilex and Photinia. Furthermore, differences in annual CO2 assimilation among species are strongly modified by species-specific photosynthetic traits during the winter under deciduous canopy trees.  相似文献

 青冈(Quercus glauca)林乔木层主要树种叶片的净光合速率日进程在春夏季晴天均有明显午休。常绿树种的光合速率在秋季最高,大量换叶期最低,冬季仍有一定的净光合量。落叶树种的光合速率和光合产量低于常绿树种,随着群落的发育其地位将降低。青冈和石栎(Lithocarpus glaber)的光合速率接近,但青冈能够利用较弱的光,因而其高叶量的树冠具有较高的光合总量,以保持其在群落中的优势种地位;石栎主要利用较强的光,其较低叶量的树冠可以维持较高的光合总量,以保证其次优势种地位。灌木、草本层种类光合日进程均为单峰型。灌木种类对光的需求较高。蕨类植物耐荫强,因而在林中能占有稳定的伴生地位。  相似文献

Historical data on two plant‐herbivore interactions from southern Norway were used to test the hypothesis that the degree of herbivore outbreaks in post‐mast years is negatively related to summer temperatures in the mast year, because plants are more depressed after a high seed production if temperatures and thus the photosynthetic activity is low. The plant species were the sessile oak Quercus petraea and the bilberry Vaceinium myrtillus. For the former species post‐mast years were identified from reports given by the local forest authorities for the period 1930–48, and from acorn export curves for the period 1949–98, For the latter species, post‐mast years were identified mainly from bilberry export curves for the period 1920–31, from game reports for the period 1932–78. and from diary notes for the period 1979–87. The herbivore species used were the green oak leaf roller moth Tortrix viridana and the capercaillie Tetrao urogallus. Eight moth outbreaks on oak forests were reported by the forest authorities in the period 1930–98, and they all started in a post‐mast year of the sessile oak. There were however also eleven post‐mast years without moth outbreaks. According to game reports, observations and autumn counts, all increases in the autumn population size of capercaillie during 1920 88 occurred in or after a year with high bilberry production. Among i8 post‐mast years, there were seven with strong increase, seven with slight or moderate increase, and four with no increase. For both herbivore species, post‐mast years with marked population increases had significantly lower summer temperatures in the preceding (mast) year than had post‐mast years with no or slight increases. For moth populations there also was a negative effect of high temperatures in April, possibly because moth eggs tend to hatch too early relative lo budburst if spring temperatures are high. For the capercaillie, high amount of precipitation in June – July seemed to have some negative impact on the autumn population sizes, as also found in previous studies.  相似文献

A total of 687 adult nematomorphs of four species of Gordiida: Chordodes brasiliensis (393 specimens), Noteochorododes cymatium (47 specimens), N. talensis (162 specimens) and Pseudochordodes dugesi (85 specimens) were collected during a period of 1 year from El Simbolar stream, Argentina. Free-living worms were abundant during autumn and spring, but their number decreased during winter and summer. Males were shorter and significantly more abundant than females. The presence of N. cymatium, N. talensis and P. dugesi was correlated with water temperature and these species were most abundant in winter and spring. The presence of C. brasiliensis was correlated with flow rate and pH; this species was more abundant in autumn and winter. These four species are sympatric.  相似文献

Zaira cinerea (Fallén) is a parasitoid fly (Diptera: Tachinidae) that attacks adult carabid beetles. To better understand mechanisms of population persistence in this species, we examined seasonality of host beetle abundance, the frequency of parasitism, and the timing of fly eclosion. In addition, we evaluated host quality using numbers of larvae or puparia per individual beetle as a measure of quality. The fly parasitized only large carabids (≥15 mm body length); the lengths of fly puparia reached 7.4–10.8 mm during development in beetle abdomens, and larger hosts are likely essential. Of the 18 large carabid species collected in this study, we chose two, Carabus maiyasanus Bates and Leptocarabus procerulus (Bates), because they were large and abundant (87% of total catch). The two carabids had different phonologies; C. maiyasanus was abundant from spring to summer, and its abundance dropped sharply in autumn, while L. procerulus was abundant in autumn and rare from spring to summer except July. Parasitism was observed in all the months from May to November except June, and adult flies eclosed more than once a year (in early summer, late summer, and mid‐autumn), indicating that the species is multivoltine. Host quality of L. procerulus was higher than that of C. maiyasanus. Carabus maiyasanus was mainly used as a host from spring to summer, and L. procerulus was used in autumn. Thus, adult beetles of one or both species are available over most of spring, summer, and autumn, allowing population persistence of this fly species over time.  相似文献

根据2015—2016年在福建北部近海水域(120.10°E—120.65°E, 26.35°N—27.07°N)夏、秋、冬、春4个季节的海洋生态调查资料, 探讨了该水域浮游动物的数量分布、季节变化及其与水团变化的关系。结果表明, 调查水域浮游动物的平均生物量依次是: 夏季(479.51 mg/m3)>秋季(257.37 mg/m3)>春季(241.86 mg/m3)>冬季(84.05 mg/m3), 平均丰度依次是: 夏季(156.36 ind./m3)>春季(91.57 ind./m3)>秋季(40.34 ind./m3)>冬季(21.82 ind./m3), 生物量和丰度均值都呈现出夏季、秋季到冬季依次减少, 春季增多的趋势, 不同的是秋季生物量均值高于春季, 而丰度均值低于春季。在夏、冬和春三季, 浮游动物的总生物量和总丰度的分布总体较为一致; 而在秋季, 浮游动物的总生物量和总丰度的分布几乎相反。百陶箭虫(Sagitta bedoti)和微剌哲水蚤(Canthocalanus pauper)是影响夏季总丰度分布最主要的种类; 链钟水母(Desmophyes annectens)是影响秋季总丰度分布最主要的种类; 驼背隆哲水蚤(Acrocalanus gibber)、亚强真哲水蚤(Eucalanus subcrassus)和百陶箭虫对冬季总丰度的分布起到了重要影响; 五角水母(Muggiaea atlantica)和微剌哲水蚤是春季占总丰度比例较高的种类。浮游动物数量各季不同分布模式的根本原因是台湾暖流和浙闽沿岸流水团的季节性变化所致。研究结果不仅对了解与评价区域海洋生态系统动态和生物多样性变化具有重要的理论意义, 而且还可以丰富我国近海水域浮游动物的生态特征与水团变化之间的关系。  相似文献

Abstract

Pollen grain viability and starch presence in pollen were followed during the long blooming period (May-November) of Parietaria judaica, the most widespread pellitory in Italy, responsible for many cases of allergic diseases. Observations were carried out near Siena (Tuscany), in the years 1978 and 1979.

Viability is high in late spring and early autumn, and pollen grains are starchy. The presence of starchless grains is always related to low viability: a production of pollen with a low viability occurs at the beginning and end of blooming, and also in summer, during drought periods. Pollen grain viability varies widely during the blooming period, and its variations are correlated to meteorological conditions, mainly rainfall and temperature.

Allergic diseases due to pellitory, however, are mainly reported between April and July, and on the other hand a small amount of patients states that they suffer all the year round. The discrepancies between the periods of viable pollen production and of declared symptoms by patients, are discussed.  相似文献
