The lizard Anolis carolinensis ovulates a single egg alternately from each ovary every 14 days. The ovulated egg enters the ipsilateral oviduct, acquires a shell, and is oviposited 18 or 19 days later. Thus, there is only a single egg in one of the oviducts (one-egg condition) during most of the estrous cycle, but there is a 4-5 day period when a mature, shelled egg is in one oviduct while a recently ovulated egg is in the contralateral oviduct (two-egg condition). Analysis of ovarian follicular diameters indicates that the largest follicle in a single ovary exhibits a growth spurt about halfway through its 28-day vitellogenic growth phase. The corpus luteum, once formed from the ovulated follicle, exhibits a linear decrease in weight, becoming fully regressed just before oviposition of the egg in the ipsilateral oviduct. Plasma concentrations of estradiol-17 beta and progesterone are high in two-egg animals. After oviposition, plasma concentrations of progesterone are still high in one-egg animals whereas those of estradiol-17 beta are much lower. These ovarian and hormonal changes during the estrous cycle are discussed in relation to the probable sources of estradiol-17 beta and progesterone, the control of the alternating pattern of ovulation and oviposition, and the role of steroid hormones in female sexual receptivity in this species.  相似文献

Little is known about the physiological events occurring in the chicken ovary during a pause in laying, therefore the aim of the present study was to examine changes in sex steroid concentration in the follicle wall and blood plasma during cessation of egg laying. The experiment was performed on laying Isa Brown hens. Control hens were fed ad libitum whereas the experimental ones were subjected to a pause in laying by complete food deprivation for 5 days and water deprivation on 3 day followed by feeding every second day up to 9 day and then ad libitum. Blood samples were taken from the wing vein each day. The hens were decapitated on day 3, 6, 9, and 16. The ovary was isolated and the following follicles were dissected: white (1-2; 2-4; 4-6; 6-8 mm) and yellow preovulatory ones (F1-F3). Progesterone and estradiol were measured in the follicle wall and blood plasma by RIA methods. The hens stopped egg laying on day 4 and began egg restoration on day 14 of the experiment. Cessation of egg laying was preceded by a decrease in estradiol and progesterone levels in the ovary as well as in the blood plasma. The plasma level of these steroids began to increase 7 days before the start of egg restoration. Autopsy of the ovary showed that the atrophy of the chicken yellow preovulatory follicles during the pause in laying was accompanied by a significant increase in the total number of white follicles.  相似文献

系统测定了天蚕Antheraea yamamai吐丝结茧至成虫期脂肪体、血淋巴和卵巢中卵黄蛋白和可溶性蛋白总含量的动态变化。结果表明,脂肪体是卵黄原蛋白(Vg)合成场所,Vg合成始于吐丝结茧后第4天;脂肪体、血淋巴中Vg滴度在吐丝结茧后第4天开始上升,化蛹后第6天或第8天达高峰,成虫羽化第1天则明显下降。卵巢对Vg摄取始于化蛹第1天,此后随蛹日龄逐渐上升,并渐趋平稳。同一卵巢管中卵黄蛋白(Vt)含量自顶端至基端随卵室增大而逐渐升高,不同日龄蛹中相应序号卵室的Vt含量以日龄大者为高;卵室中Vt含量与卵室体积大小呈正线性关系。电镜观察表明,Vg被卵母细胞摄入后以卵黄体形式存在,不同发育阶段卵巢中卵母细胞内卵黄体大小不同,以早期者为小;同一卵巢管中不同卵母细胞内卵黄体以顶端为小,基端明显增大,且卵黄体呈网状。  相似文献

Inducing hens to molt increases egg quality, egg production and extends the productive life of hens. It has been previously demonstrated that melengestrol acetate (MGA), an orally active progestin, decreased gonadotropic support for the ovary, which decreased the steroidogenic support for the oviduct and resulted in the cessation of lay. Estradiol produced by the theca cells of small follicles stimulates the production of the yolk proteins vitellogenin II and apolipoprotein II by the liver and supports the oviductal epithelial cells. The objective of the present experiment was to determine gene expression for yolk proteins and oviductal epithelial cell turn-over in response to a MGA-induced molt. Hy-Line W-36 laying hens were fed either 0 or 8mg MGA per day for 28 days in a balanced diet and then returned to a standard layer ration until day 36. Four birds per treatment on days 1, 8, 16, 28 and 36 were euthanized and the liver was removed and snap frozen in liquid nitrogen until RNA was extracted. Expression of vitellogenin II and apolipoprotein II genes was determined using real-time RT-PCR. A portion of the magnum was removed to determine proliferation and programmed cell death for secretory and ciliated luminal epithelium. Vitellogenin II and apolipoprotein II gene expression was reduced in hens fed 8mg MGA compared to those fed 0mg MGA. There was no effect of day on gene expression of either yolk protein. Cell proliferation was increased in the ciliated epithelial cells of the oviduct in hens receiving 8mg MGA compared to those receiving 0mg. However, programmed cell death of the ciliated epithelial cells was not different between controls and MGA treatment. Programmed cell death and proliferation increased in the secretory epithelial cells in hens receiving 8mg MGA compared to controls. Therefore, utilizing MGA as an alternative method to induce molt results in some, but not all, of the physiological changes previously described for hens molted by feed withdrawal. These findings lead us to suggest that some of the observed physiological changes resulting from feed withdrawal are required to increase egg quality and egg production following molt and other changes are not necessary, but are just a result of nutrient deprivation.  相似文献

The present study was designed (i) to assess the changes in the activity of 3beta-hydroxysteroid dehydrogenase (3beta-HSD) and cytochrome P450 aromatase (P450arom) in the ovaries of hens which are subjected to a pause in egg laying by fasting, and (ii) relate these changes with progesterone (P(4)) and estradiol (E(2)) production in the ovary. Hy-Line Brown laying hens (n=90) were fasted for 5 days with water deprivation only on day 3 and subsequently fed every second day up to day 13 and then ad libitum. Birds were euthanized (n=18) on day 0, 3, 6, 9 and 16 of the experiment. The activities of 3beta-HSD and P450arom were evaluated in stroma with cortical follicles (<1mm) and in the wall of white non-hierarchical (1-8 mm) and yellow hierarchical follicles (>8 mm) by histochemical and immunohistochemical method, respectively. Ovarian P(4) and E(2) were measured radioimmunologically. Hens stopped egg laying on day 4 of the experiment and pause in egg laying lasted up to day 12. The hens then began to gradually resume egg laying and on day 16 all hens laid eggs. It was found that during the pause in egg laying: (i) the activity of 3beta-HSD in stroma and normal white follicles was slightly decreased while P450arom activity was significantly increased; (ii) in yellow hierarchical follicles which became atretic and regressed, activity of both enzymes were markedly decreased; (iii) ovarian P(4) production dramatically decreased, whereas ovarian E(2) production after an initial decrease significantly increased. In white atretic follicles the activity of 3beta-HSD and P450arom was very weak during the whole experiment. In conclusion, the present results indicate that during a pause in egg laying white follicles become resistant to atresia.  相似文献

The role of LH in luteal function in pregnant dogs was investigated at two different periods during pregnancy: (i) the transitional period from apparent total independence of the corpus luteum to relative hormonal dependence (days 20-35); and (ii) the period of full hormonal dependence (days 35-40). At both periods, LH neutralization, LH inhibition and LH administration studies were conducted. At both periods LH immunoneutralization had no significant effect on the secretion pattern of progesterone or prolactin. GnRH antagonist treatment (Nal-Glu) decreased plasma LH below the detection limit in all treatment periods. Nal-Glu had no effect on prolactin. When GnRH antagonist osmotic pumps were implanted, a transient decrease in plasma progesterone concentrations occurred on days 21-22 but not during the remaining implantation period. When GnRH antagonist was injected, plasma progesterone temporarily decreased (24 h) after the beginning of treatment starting on day 20, but decreased for 5 days when the treatment started on day 35. When purified pig LH was injected i.v. twice a day for 2 consecutive days either from day 30 or from day 40, plasma progesterone concentrations remained constant during treatment. However, on days 40 and 41, an increase in prolactin was observed. These results indicate that LH immunoneutralization may not impair corpus luteum function. In addition, GnRH antagonist induces dose- and time-dependent effects. Only high doses resulted in a decrease in progesterone, the duration of which increased as pregnancy progressed. Continuous GnRH antagonist administration, even when associated with complete LH inhibition, was not associated with detectable effects on progesterone. Finally, LH administration does not stimulate progesterone but may modify prolactin in the last third of pregnancy. Other studies indicated a corpus luteum prolactin dependency. The present study indicates that, in pregnant bitches, LH may not be necessary to sustain progesterone synthesis but that its role may vary in a time-dependent manner.  相似文献

1. A technique is described for the accurate determination of circulating vitellogenin concentrations by measurement of plasma zinc concentrations before and after selective precipitation of lipoproteins in the domestic fowl. 2. Vitellogenin zinc concentrations exhibit a high degree of correlation with those of another major egg yolk precursor, very low density lipoprotein (VLDL) in immature female birds, during developing and maximum egg production in mature birds and following cessation of egg laying. 3. Mature female patterns of plasma vitellogenin and VLDL were induced by injection of oestradiol 17 beta (5 mg/kg body weight per day for 3 days) into adult cockerels. 4. It is suggested that measurement of plasma zinc provides a simple and accurate technique for the estimation of vitellogenin production and reproductive status in the domestic fowl and that this may be applied to other oviparous vertebrates.  相似文献

The concentrations of ovarian steroids (estradiol--E2, progesterone--P4 and testosterone--T) and thyroid hormones (thyroxine--T4 and triiodothyronine--T3) were determined in blood plasma of the domestic hen during sexual maturation and the initial period of egg lay. Blood samples were collected from Hy-Line pullets at 3 day intervals from days 87 to 144 day of life, i.e. 42 days before and 14 days after the onset of egg lay (OEL). Ovarian and thyroid hormones were measured by RIA methods. During sexual maturation an increase in ovarian steroids in the blood plasma was observed. The maximum E2 and P4 levels were recorded on day 6 and day 3 prior to OEL, respectively. In the case of plasma T level, an increase from 42 to 18 days before OEL followed by a decrease and a renewed increase from day 9 till OEL was observed. The relatively unchanged plasma level of T4 until day 9 before OEL decreased significantly just before the first oviposition while the T3 level gradually decreased between day 42 and day 9 before OEL, and then increased and again decreased from day 3 before till day 3 after OEL. During sexual maturation the following statistically significant coefficients of correlation between ovarian steroids and T3 were found: E2 vs. T3-->r = -0.551 and P4 vs. T3-->r = -0.373. There was no significant correlation between T and T3 or between the examined steroids and T4. The data obtained indicate that during sexual maturation of the domestic hen there is a negative relationship between the ovary and the thyroid gland.  相似文献

Two identical experiments were carried out in domestic hens treated with a lower (0.2 mg/animal) or a higher (0.4 mg/animal) dose of thyroxin (T4), for 21 consecutive days. The low dose diminished egg production, but did not result in moulting while the higher dose stopped egg laying on the 16th day and caused the loss of contour feathers from the 14th day on. The new plumage was completely developed in this group on about the 42th day. The plasma progesterone concentration showed an increase in both thyroxin treated groups, but is was only continuous and significant in the fowls treated with 0.4 mg T4. In this group the peak value of progesterone was synchronous with the most intensive feather loss. In the other group the tendency for increased levels of progesterone was of shorter duration and not significant. Plasma oestrone levels were depressed by the treatment in both groups and increased significantly only in the moulted fowls after administration of T4 was stopped. This increase may be associated with feather growth and regeneration of the oviduct. Plasma 17-beta oestradiol and testosterone concentrations did not change in the T4 treated groups. Plasma corticosterone concentration increased continuously only in the moulting animals. The results suggest that on one hand thyroxin has a role in the endocrine regulation of moulting and, on the other, that a thyroxin-progesterone synergism is of significance in the process.  相似文献

We have previously shown that the porcine oviduct possesses immunoreactive and functional LH receptors and that LH causes relaxation of the oviduct, especially during the periovulatory stage of estrous cycle. The current studies were undertaken to investigate the effects of estradiol and progesterone on LH receptor protein and LH-stimulated motility of the oviduct in steroid-primed ovariectomized gilts. Twenty-one cross-bred gilts were ovariectomized at 6 m.o. of age. Four weeks later gilts received daily intramuscular injection of either 2 mL corn oil (control n = 4), estradiol benzoate (EB) 1.5 mg (n = 6), progesterone 50 mg (n = 5), or 1.5 mg EB plus 50 mg progesterone (n = 6) for 4 consecutive days. The gilts were slaughtered on Day 5 after the first injection of steroids or vehicle. Rings of isthmus and ampulla were collected from each oviduct and placed in a tissue chamber perfused with Kreb's solution for 60 min. The mechanical activity was recorded for 30 min after LH treatment. Immunoreactivity of LHR in the Fallopian tube sections were detected in the epithelium of the tubal mucosa, smooth muscle cells and the blood vessel endothelium. Western blotting showed that porcine oviducts contain 75, 48 and 45 kDa immunoreactive LH receptor proteins, like the corpus luteum (CL). The lowest receptor expression was found in controls and in gilts treated with estradiol or progesterone. Combined treatment with estradiol and progesterone resulted in a significant increase of LH receptor protein concentrations when compared with control animals. In vitro LH treatment affected oviduct contractility of combined estradiol and progesterone treated gilts but not the oviduct of the remaining groups. It also caused a decrease in amplitude, frequency and areas under the curve (AUC) of ampulla (P < 0.05) and the amplitude and AUC of isthmus (P < 0.001) in combined estradiol and progesterone-primed gilts. These results indicate that estradiol and progesterone together, but not separately, increase LH receptor protein in the porcine oviduct and that combined estradiol and progesterone priming is necessary for LH-induced relaxation of the porcine oviduct.  相似文献

An in vitro superfusion method was used to test sex hormone release from different kinds of ovarian follicle (growing follicles, postovulatory follicles, and atretic follicles) in the lizard Podarcis sicula sicula. Sex hormone output changes with the stage of follicle evolution and sexual cycle. Previtellogenetic follicles prevail in early-spring quiescent ovaries and secrete mainly progesterone, which is probably utilized at that phase to delay ovarian resumption. In the active ovary, progesterone output from previtellogenetic follicles decreases, whereas vitellogenetic follicles produce a significant amount of 17β-estradiol, which is necessary for sustaining vitellogenin synthesis by the liver and oviduct growth. As follicles become ripe, progesterone production is resumed, and it increases in young postovulatory follicles. This is in line with the functions assigned to the hormone at that phase of the sexual cycle, i.e., the induction of oocyte maturation and the regulation of egg retention in the oviduct. Postovulatory follicles can also synthetize 17β-estradiol. After oviposition, this hormone, which is secreted by the old postovulatory follicles, can reinitiate vitellogenin synthesis, allowing the development of a new oocyte set. Our data confirm that active, although ephemeral, corpora lutea are also formed in oviparous species. A limited contribution to ovarian sex steroid production derives also from atretic follicles, at least at the early stages of the breeding cycle. © 1993 Wiley-Liss, Inc.  相似文献

The increase in LH concentrations at the time of the decrease in FSH concentrations during follicle deviation in mares was studied to determine the role of LH in the production of estradiol and immunoreactive inhibin (ir-inhibin). Ten days after ovulation, all follicles > or =6 mm were ablated, prostaglandin F(2 alpha) was given, and either 0 mg (control group, n = 15) or 100 mg of progesterone in safflower oil (treated group, n = 16) was given daily for 14 days, encompassing the day of diameter deviation. The follicular and hormonal data were normalized to the expected day of the beginning of diameter deviation when the largest follicle first reached > or =20 mm (Day 0). The experimentally induced decrease in LH concentrations during follicle deviation beginning on Day -4 delayed and stunted the increase in circulating concentrations of ir-inhibin and estradiol beginning on Days -3 and -1, respectively, but did not alter the predeviation FSH surge and the initiation of diameter deviation between the two largest follicles. Combined for both groups, the interval to the expected day of deviation was 16.6 days after ovulation when the largest follicle was a mean of 21.6 mm. After deviation, the largest follicle started to regress in the treated group beginning on Day 1 and was associated with decreased concentrations of ir-inhibin and estradiol, and increased concentrations of FSH. The negative influence of the dominant follicle on the postdeviation decrease in FSH observed in the control group was alleviated and concentrations resurged in the treated group. Apparently this is the first in vivo evidence that the increase in LH that precedes follicle deviation has a positive effect in supporting the production of inhibin during diameter deviation. It was concluded that the increase in LH concentrations before diameter deviation played a role in the production of estradiol and inhibin by the largest follicle during deviation.  相似文献

Abstract. In a factorial experiment, fifth-instar Locusta migratoria (L.) (Orthoptera: Acrididae) were given either dry food (lyophilized grass) and drinking water, food only, water only, or neither food nor water.Food consumption and insect weight were measured daily, and the behaviour of each locust was recorded for 5 h on each of four consecutive days and for 2.5 h on the fifth.Consumption declined progressively in locusts given food only, and those given water only were not observed to drink after the first day of food deprivation.The decline in food consumption on the first day was accounted for by a decrease in the average duration of feeds, which remained constant thereafter.The further decline in consumption over subsequent days was due to a progressive decline in the number of feeds.Although food availability did not slow weight loss relative to locusts given neither food nor water, the availability of water without food did.The proportion of time locomoting increased in all deprivation treatments, but the pattern of change across the five observation days differed markedly between treatments.Locusts given food but no water increased locomotion from 20% of the time budget (the value for controls) to 30% on the first day of deprivation, and by the second day had reached a plateau of approximately 65%.which was maintained until the experiment was terminated on day 5.In contrast, locusts given water but no food approached the 65% level of locomotion on the first day, which was stutistically greater than the 55% observed in those deprived of both food and water.This increase was due both to an increase in the number of locomotion bouts initiated and an increase in the average duration of locomotion bouts.On the second and third days, all deprivation treatments maintained locomotion at around 65%.By day 4, locomotion had decreased to approximately 15% in locusts deprived of both food and water, but not in those deprived of food only or water only.Unlike those given only food, locusts given only water showed a reduction in locomotion of c. 15% on the fifth day.  相似文献

In the cockroach Nauphoeta cinerea the incorporation of a protein of low solubility into the oöcytes begins at day 5 of its adult life. An immunologically identical protein appears in the haemolymph two days earlier. The concentration of this protein, i.e. ‘vitellogenin’ in the haemolymph increases up to the onset of yolk incorporation into the oöcytes. During ovarian development no correlation could be detected between vitellogenin titre and several other parameters (ovary dry weight, length of the basal oöcytes, haemolymph protein concentration, body weight and age when ovulation occurred). In young females vitellogenin titre depends on the age, i.e. the volume of the corpora allata and hence on the presence and the titre of JH. During the period of egg maturation the total haemolymph protein concentration generally tends to drop while materials not precipitable by trichloracetic acid circulate at higher concentration after ecdysis and before ovulation.Early decapitation prevents vitellogenin synthesis and oöcyte growth, but when JH is applied to decapitated females, the normal vitellogenin titre is re-established, ovarian development, however, cannot be fully resumed. A dose-response curve shows that serial application of the hormone is much more effective than single large doses. Farnesylmethylester, a JH mimic, is about a hundred times less active, but more persistent than JH. Copulation seems to enhance the synthesis and release of endogenous JH, while food and water uptake are necessary to guarantee and optimal ovarian development. JH and high vitellogenin titre never restore ovarian development in females deprived of food and/or water or in those decapitated shortly after ecdysis.  相似文献

Breeding activity in the South American grey opossum, Monodelphis domestica, is stimulated by the presence of males. This study presents the first analysis of changes in concentrations of plasma progesterone during pregnant and nonpregnant cycles. In Expt 1, females were paired with either intact or vasectomized males to stimulate a reproductive cycle, or were isolated from males. Within 4-8 days of pairing, females showed marked changes in the size of the urogenital opening (vulva), which were paralleled by similar changes in body weight (11.4 +/- 2%; mean +/- SEM; n = 13). There was a second increase and decrease in body weight (21.7 +/- 3.3%; n = 13) in pregnant and nonpregnant cycles during the luteal phase of the cycle. Changes in concentrations of plasma progesterone, determined from samples collected three times a week, were similar in pregnant and nonpregnant cycles. Plasma progesterone concentration, which was increased for 15-18 days, showed two distinct peaks. The first peak, 3-4.5 ng ml-1, occurred immediately after the decrease in vulval swelling, and the second peak (1-2 ng ml-1) occurred 8-12 days later. Concentrations of plasma progesterone were low before parturition occurred. Females isolated from males for 35 days showed no changes in body weight or vulval swelling and concentrations of plasma progesterone remained undetectable. In Expt 2, concentrations of luteinizing hormone (LH) in plasma were determined twice a day for the first few days after pairing. In three of five females an LH peak was detected coincident with the maximal swelling of the vulva.  相似文献

Nest deprivation of incubating turkeys caused a decrease in serum prolactin (Prl) levels from 1184.5 +/- 116.4 ng/ml to 896.8 +/- 83.0 ng/ml 1 day after initiation of deprivation, with a further decline to 156.5 +/- 111.7 ng/ml at the end of the 22-day experimental period. Serum luteinizing hormone (LH), progesterone and estradiol levels following nest deprivation were similar to those in birds allowed to incubate (controls). Oral administration of p-chlorophenylalanine (PCPA, 50 mg/kg) to incubating turkeys for 3 consecutive days reduced nesting frequency (P less than 0.05) on the 4th day after initiation of treatment and the nesting virtually ceased by the 9th day. Pretreatment Prl was 1655 +/- 210 ng/ml and declined (P less than 0.05) after PCPA administration to a low of 28.6 +/- 2.8 ng/ml. In addition, PCPA caused a sustained rise in serum LH peaking (5.59 +/- 1.09 ng/ml) 3 days after treatment initiation. Contrary to nest deprivation, serum levels of progesterone and estradiol increased (P less than 0.05) as a consequence of PCPA treatment. Seven of 8 PCPA-treated birds later came into lay when their Prl levels and nesting frequency increased again. The results suggest a role for serotonin (5-HT) in incubation behavior, and Prl and LH secretion in turkeys.  相似文献

Effect of short photoperiod (SP; LD 6:18) treatment on serum hormone profile and growth rate of adrenal, thyroid, ovary, oviduct, liver and lymphoid organ was studied in rearing pullets (RIR breed) of 1 to day 90 old. Body weight and growth index of SP pullets were lesser as compared to pullets reared under LD 12:12. Except for ovary (recorded marginal increment), weights and growth indices of thyroid, adrenal and oviduct decreased under SP. Weight of liver and lymphoid organs was higher at 30 and 90 days, in SP pullets as compared to LD 12:12. Histometric data suggested that the transition from small to big follicles was slow in ovary of SP pullets, and also reduced follicular atresia was noted in SP pullets. Except for higher corticosterone level at 30 days and higher progesterone level at 30 and 60 days, relative levels of all the hormones at all other ages were lower in SP pullets. In general, the present observations suggested intraovarian changes in pullets exposed to SP.  相似文献

Egg-laying in hens exposed for more than 11 months to photostimulatory daylengths was intermittent and associated with a reduction in numbers of yellow-yolky ovarian follicles. Old laying hens (105 weeks) had lower concentrations of luteinizing hormone (LH) in the pituitary gland and plasma and reduced pituitary gland responsiveness to chicken LH-releasing-hormones (LHRH-I and II) in vivo when compared with young laying hens (28 weeks). Four weeks after transfer from 14 to 8 h light/day, egg production almost stopped in old, but not in young hens, although plasma LH concentrations decreased in all birds. After transfer from 14 to 20 h light/day, plasma LH increased in young, but not in old, hens, without a change in the rate of egg production. Reproductive function was enhanced in old hens returned to long days after induction of a moult and ovarian regression by reducing daylength and dietary restriction. Moulted hens had a greater rate of egg production, higher concentrations of plasma LH and a greater pituitary-gland responsiveness to LHRH-II in vivo than unmoulted control hens. After transfer from 14 to 8 h light/day, egg-laying decreased more rapidly in unmoulted than in moulted hens; transfer to 17 h light/day increased egg production in moulted, but not in unmoulted, birds. Induction of ovarian regression in old hens by dietary restriction alone also enhanced reproductive function after the dietary restriction was relaxed. Egg-laying was more persistent in hens brought into lay for a second year by transferring them from 3 to 11 h light/day than in hens transferred from 3 to 20 h light/day. Egg production was stimulated in hens maintained on 3 or 11 h light/day for 42 weeks, after transfer to 20 h light/day. Egg production ceased in hens maintained on 20 h light/day for 46 weeks, after transfer to 3 h light/day. These observations are consistent with the view that poor persistence of laying in hens less than 2 years old and exposed continuously to long days is caused, in part, by a reduction in hypothalamic-gonadotroph function. This reduction in neuroendocrine function may be due, in part, to the development of relative photorefractoriness.  相似文献

Weight, RNA, DNA and protein content of the oviduct, vaginal cul-de-sac, lateral vagina and urogenital sinus and oestradiol and progesterone cytosol receptor concentrations in vaginal cul-de-sac, lateral vagina and urogenital sinus were examined after administration of oestradiol to ovariectomized animals and on days 0, 5, 9 and 13 of the non-pregnant cycle and on day 13 of the pregnant cycle. In ovariectomized animals, oestradiol induced an increase in weight, RNA:DNA and protein:DNA ratios and a decrease in DNA:tissue weight ratio for each organ and in addition an increase in total DNA in vaginal cul-de-sac and urogenital sinus. There was no effect of oestradiol on oestradiol cytosol receptor concentration but there was a significant increase in progesterone cytosol receptor concentration in all organs that were examined. During the oestrous cycle, changes in the wet weight of each organ showed a common pattern with maximum weight at day 0 followed by variable rates of decline until day 13. In oviduct and vaginal cul-de-sac, the decrease in weight was paralleled by a decrease in RNA:DNA and protein:DNA ratios whereas the DNA: tissue weight ratio showed the opposite pattern and total DNA remained unchanged. The changes in the lateral vagina and urogenital sinus were similar except that a significant decline in total DNA was also seen after day 0 and the DNA:tissue weight and protein:DNA ratios in the urogenital sinus and the lateral vagina respectively showed no significant changes. Progesterone cytosol receptor concentration in the lateral vagina and urogenital sinus were high on day 0 and then declined until day 13. In contrast, there were no consistent effects on oestradiol receptor concentration.  相似文献

Insulin-like growth factor I (IGF-I) is involved in paracrine/autocrine regulation of gonadal steroidogenesis and peptide hormone biosynthesis. This study was designed to determine whether IGF-I alone, or an interaction of IGF-I, is involved in augmenting the actions of luteinizing hormone (LH) and prolactin in controlling relaxin and progesterone secretion from ageing corpora lutea of hysterectomized gilts at days 110, 113 and 116 after oestrus. Luteal tissue slices were incubated for 8 h with IGF-I (0, 50, 300 ng ml-1), LH (0, 100, 1000 ng ml-1), and prolactin (0, 100, 1000 ng ml-1) alone or in combination. Progesterone and relaxin concentrations were determined by radioimmunoassay of spent medium and of homogenates from luteal tissue slices before and after incubation. Porcine luteal tissue from day 110 had a net output of 25 ng progesterone and 26 ng relaxin in the control and of 65 ng progesterone and 2125 ng relaxin in the combined IGF-I, LH and prolactin treatment mg-1 of luteal tissue, respectively. IGF-I, LH and prolactin alone or in combination significantly increased (P < 0.01) progesterone production by luteal tissue from day 110, but they were partially effective at day 113 and ineffective at day 116. By contrast, the same hormone treatments increased relaxin production by luteal tissue from days 110 and 113. Even at day 116, prolactin alone or with LH or IGF-I continued to stimulate relaxin production. In conclusion, IGF-I augments the ability of prolactin and LH to increase relaxin production by ageing corpora lutea; however, a decrease in progesterone secretion and an increase in relaxin secretion at day 113 indicate that different mechanisms control progesterone and relaxin secretion in pigs.  相似文献
