A phylogeny of the genus Aphis Linnaeus, 1 758 was built primarily from specimens collected in the Midwest of the United States. A data matrix was constructed with 68 species and 41 morphological characters with respective character states of alate and apterous viviparous females. Dendrogram topologies of analyses performed using UPGMA (Unweighted Pair Group Method with Arithmetic Mean), Maximum Parsimony and Bayesian analysis of Cytochrome Oxidase I, Elongation Factor 1‐α and primary endosymbiont Buchnera aphidicola 16S sequences were not congruent. Bayesian analysis strongly supported most terminal nodes of the phylogenetic trees. The phylogeny was strongly supported by EF1‐α, and analysis of COI and EF1‐α molecular data combined with morphological characters. It was not supported by single analysis of COI or Buchnera aphidicola 16S. Results from the Bayesian phylogeny show 4 main species groups: asclepiadis, fabae, gossypii, and middletonii. Results place Aphis and species of the genera Protaphis Börner, 1952, Toxoptera Koch, 1856 and Xerobion Nevsky, 1928 in a monophyletic clade. Morphological characters support this monophyly as well. The phylogeny shows that the monophyletic clade of the North American middletonii species group belong to the genus Protaphis: P. debilicornis (Gillette & Palmer, 1929 ), comb. nov., P. echinaceae (Lagos and Voegtlin, 2009 ), comb. nov., and P. middletonii (Thomas, 1879 ). The genus Toxoptera should be considered a subgenus of Aphis (stat. nov.). The analysis also indicates that the current genus Iowana Frison, 1954 should be considered a subgenus of Aphis (stat. nov.).  相似文献

1. The aphids Dysaphis plantaginea Passerini, Aphis spp. (Aphis pomi De Geer and Aphis spiraecola Patch), and Eriosoma lanigerum Hausmann are commonly found together in apple orchards. Ants establish a mutualistic relationship with the myrmecophilous aphids D. plantaginea and Aphis spp. but not with E. lanigerum. 2. Field surveys and one experiment manipulating the presence of ants and the aphid species were conducted to test the hypothesis that ants play a role in structuring the community of these aphids on apple. 3. Ants tended D. plantaginea and Aphis spp. but not E. lanigerum colonies. In the field, D. plantaginea performed better in the presence of ants while no effect was observed in Aphis spp. Contrarily, populations of Aphis spp. in the manipulative experiment performed better in the presence of ants while no differences were observed for D. plantaginea. Such differences between field and manipulative conditions could be related to thermal tolerance, phenology, and life cycles. In contrast, populations of E. lanigerum were reduced in the presence of ants. 4. Ants also had a significant negative effect on the abundance of natural enemies, which could partially explain the benefits to the tended aphids. However, while ants did not provide a benefit to Aphis spp. when it was reared alone, in the presence of other species ant attendance increased Aphis abundance by 256% and simultaneously reduced E. lanigerum abundance by 63%. Therefore, ants benefited Aphis by reducing competition with other aphid species, which involves a different mechanism, explaining the benefit of ant attendance. Considering all the aphid species together, ants had a net positive effect on aphid abundance, which was consequently considered harmful for the plant. 5. Our results highlighted the role that ants play in structuring apple aphid communities and give support to the observed pattern that ants can benefit tended aphids while simultaneously reducing the abundance of untended herbivores.  相似文献

A new species of the genus Aphis with stridulatory apparatus, Aphis gnetuma Qiao sp. n., feeding on Gnetum parvifolium which is a new host plant record for aphids from Guangxi, China is described. The new species is distinguished by a well-developed median frontal tubercle and body bearing white wax powder in life. The taxonomic position of this new species is supported by analysis results of COI and gnd genes. A key to Aphis species with stridulatory spines on the hind tibiae of apterous viviparous females is provided. Abstract

Six species of Siteroptes subgenus Siteroptoides—kneeboni (Wicht), mesembrinae (Canestrini), microsaniae n.sp., morelliae (Rack), muscarius n.sp., and portatus n.sp.—have been found in New Zealand. S. (S.) mesembrinae occurs on Niue Island also, and a further new species, pacificus, is recorded from Tonga. The phoretomorph females of all 7 species, the normal females of 4, the males of 3, and larvae of 2 are described and compared. The similarities and differences between normal and phoretomorph females are particularly noted. Besides kneeboni, 2 species described by Wicht but not occuring in New Zealand—athiasae and flechtmanni— are redescribed from type material and transferred to Siteroptes (Siteroptoides). Keys are given for normal females and Pediculaster-like phoretomorph females of Siteroptoides. Siteroptes mesembrinae subsimilis and S. ignotus altaicus are raised to species status. Diagnostically important measurements are given to help define the variation within and between species and morphs.  相似文献

A critical taxonomic revision of the genus Teucrium (Lamiaceae) in Egypt is presented. It reveals the presence of five species, including two subspecies and four varieties. Two new nomenclatural combinations are proposed: Teucrium jordanicum and T. jordanicum var. sinaicum. The latter in addition to T. polium subsp. capitatum are added for the first time to the flora of the country. A key, annotated enumeration of species and notes on the distribution of the species are also provided.  相似文献

More than 44 species of aphids were trapped by suction during the spring seasons of 1981, 1982 and 1983 over a pepper field at Bet Dagan, Israel. Nineteen species transmitted cucumber mosaic virus (CMV), while seven transmitted potato virus Y (PVY) at least once. Over 80% of the CMV and of the PVY infection among test plants (Capsicum annuum cv. Weindale) exposed to trapped aphids was caused by Aphis citricola and two or three other Aphis species, Myzus persicae and Macrosiphum euphorbiae. Landing rate was determined by comparing the proportion of each species found on green tiles or pepper plants with that found in suction traps. A. citricola was the most common but was found in a much lower proportion on plants than either in flight or on green tiles. Aphis spp. and M. persicae were more than 2–5 times more frequent (relative to other species) on green tiles than in flight. M. persicae and M. euphorbiae, which colonise peppers, were found on peppers at a proportion several times higher than either on green tiles or in the air. The relative importance of the different vector species was calculated by multiplying abundance by the proportion of transmitters and the landing rate. A. citricola and Aphis spp. were responsible for more than 50% of the total transmission of either CMV in 1981 and 1982 and of PVY in 1981. Peaks of CMV infection of bait plants coincided with peaks of transmitters of A. citricola and Aphis spp. caught in suction traps. The significance of these findings in primary infection of peppers with CMV and PVY is discussed.  相似文献

A new species, Leucas pachmarhiensis (Lamiaceae), is described and illustrated from the Pachmarhi Biosphere Reserve, Hoshangabad district, Madhya Pradesh, India with conservation status assessed as ‘Critically Endangered’. This novelity is endemic to central India and belongs to Leucas sect. Plagiostoma. It differs from other species of this section by its height up to 120 cm, and inflorescence positioned at multiple nodes. Detailed notes on its conservation status and ecology are provided.  相似文献

Stachys pseudobombycina Kaynak, Da?k?n & Y?lmaz sp. nov. (Lamiaceae) from south Anatolia, Turkey is described and illustrated. It belongs to section Olisia and appears to be close to S. bombycina. The genus Cryptaphis Hille Ris Lambers 1947 is described for the first time in Korea with new records of two species, Cryptaphis geranicola (Shinji 1935) and Cryptaphis menthae Takahashi 1961. Cryptaphis geranicola was collected from Geranium thunbergii (Lamiaceae) and C. menthae was collected from Isodon inflexus (Lamiaceae). Important characteristics are re-described, illustrated, and measured in apterous and alate viviparous females.  相似文献

Two new species of Neoibidionini from Colombia are described: Psiloibidion boteroi n. sp. and Tropidion neisi n. sp. The previous key to species of Tropidion is modified to include the new species. The females of Compsibidion paradoxum Martins, 1971 and Glomibidion trinidadense (Gilmour, 1963) are described and illustrated for the first time. Summary

The characterization of photoperiodic induction of sexual rest in Armadillidium vulgare females (a cosmopolitan species) shows that the photoperiodic curves relating to the cessation of reproduction are representative of long-days type species. Experiments made on photophase maintenance or reduction show that females are sensitive not only to such reduction but also to its magnitude. Furthermore, the photophase value is relative and depends on previous conditions experienced by the female and there is evidence for the existence of a circannual endogenous cycle in A. vulgare.  相似文献

Apterous viviparous females of Neoamphorophora ledi (Wahlgren, 1938) living on Rhododendron degronianum Carr. (Ericaceae) on Honshu island, Japan, are redescribed and the hitherto unknown alate viviparous females are here described. Rhododendron degronianum is a new host plant species for this aphid. This species is recorded for aphid fauna of Eastern Palearctic for the first time. Keys to species of Neoamphorophora based on apterous and alate viviparous females are given. A key to aphid genera with swollen siphunculi living on species of Rhododendron worldwide based on apterous viviparous females is also provided.  相似文献

Salvia evadens (Lamiaceae) is described and illustrated as a new species discovered in Sierra del Halo, Jalisco, Mexico. It is similar in vegetative morphology to S. aequidistans. However, it differs from the latter by having less flowers per verticillaster, lanceolate floral bracts, 5‐ or 7‐veined upper calyx lip, ornate connective with an acute tooth at the middle, and larger flowers and mericarps. The Palaearctic burrower bug genus Canthophorus Mulsant & Rey, 1866 (Heteroptera: Cydnidae) is revised. New data on the morphology and distribution are given. Structures of the female internal ectodermal terminalia and the completely inflated aedeagi in all species of the genus are described and illustrated for the first time. An extended differential diagnosis as a comparison with representatives of all Palearctic genera of the tribe Sehirini is given for the genus. Based on characters of the external morphology and terminalia of both sexes, new taxa are described: C. dubius sanigarum n. ssp., C. melanopterus mariae n. ssp., C. impressus hajastanicus n. ssp., and C. wagneri hyrcanicus n. ssp.; C. hissaricus Asanova, 1964 is downgraded to a subspecies level and included in C. mixtus Asanova, 1964. C. melanopterus niger (Vidal, 1950) is placed in synonymy with C. melanopterus melanopterus (Herrich-Schaeffer, 1835). A wide variability of the terminalia, especially in females, was found in C. melanopterus melanopterus; in the latter, six forms are described differing in the shape and size of sclerites in posterior pouches of the gynatrial sac and distributed mainly in the Mediterranean region. A key allowing identification of the species not only by males, but also by females, was compiled for the first time. It is shown that C. aeneus (Walker, 1867) [= Sehirus fuscipennis Horváth, 1899] and C. maculipes (Mulsant & Rey, 1852) have very significant differences from other species of Canthophorus in the male and female terminalia, and at the same time share some characters with the genus Adomerus Mulsant & Rey, 1866, including unique characters shared with several species of this group; therefore, the mentioned two species are transferred to the genus Adomerus.  相似文献

The aphid genus Micromyzodium David, 1958 is newly recognized in the Korean Peninsula. This genus is characterized by very long dorsal abdominal hairs, almost 3 to 4 times as long as the basal diameter of antennal segment III. Colonies of two Micromyzodium species, Micromyzodium kuwakusae Uye, 1924 and Micromyzodium nipponicum Moritsu, 1949, were collected on Fatoua villosa Nakai (Urticales: Moraceae) and Perilla frutescens Britton (Lamiales: Lamiaceae), respectively. In this study, important characteristics are redescribed, illustrated, and measured for the apterous viviparous females of these species.  相似文献
