Marine environments are substantially untapped source for the isolation of bacteria with the capacity to produce various extracellular hydrolytic enzymes, which have important ecological roles and promising biotechnological applications. Hydrolases constitute a class of enzymes widely distributed in nature from bacteria to higher eukaryotes. Marine microbial communities are highly diverse and have evolved during extended evolutionary processes of physiological adaptations under the influence of a variety of ecological conditions and selection pressures. A number of marine hydrolases have been described, including amylases, lipases and proteases, which are being used extensively for biotechnological applications. The present study was carried out to isolate marine bacteria from continental slope sediments of the eastern Arabian Sea and explore their biotechnological potential. Among the 119 isolates screened, producers of amylases (15%), caseinases (40%), cellulases (40%), gelatinases (60%), lipases (26%), ligninases (33%), phytase (11%) and Malachite Green dye degraders (16%) were detected. Phylogenetic analysis based on 16S rRNA gene sequencing showed that predominant marine sediment bacteria possessing more than four enzymatic activities belonged to the phyla Firmicutes and Proteobacteria, was assigned to the genera Bacillus, Planococcus, Staphylococcus, Chryseomicrobium, Exiguobacterium and Halomonas. Biodegradation of the dye Malachite Green using the liquid decolorization assay showed that both the individual cultures (Bacillus vietnamensis, Planococcus maritimus and Bacillus pumilus) and their consortium were able to decolorize more than 70% of dye within 24?h of incubation. This is the first report on diversity and extracellular hydrolytic enzymatic activities and bioremediation properties of bacteria from continental slope sediment of eastern Arabian Sea.  相似文献

This study is the first culture-independent report on the regional variability of bacterial diversity in oxic sediments from the unexplored southern Cretan margin (SCM). Three main deep basins (water column depths: 2670–3603 m), located at the mouth of two submarine canyons (Samaria Gorge and Paximades Channel) and an adjacent slope system, as well as two shallow upper-slope stations (water column depths: 215 and 520 m), were sampled. A total of 454 clones were sequenced and the bacterial richness, estimated through five clone libraries using rarefaction analysis, ranged from 71 to 296 unique phylotypes. The average sequence identity of the retrieved Cretan margin sequences compared to the >1,000,000 known rRNA sequences was only 93.5%. A diverse range of prokaryotes was found in the sediments, which were represented by 15 different taxonomic groups at the phylum level. The phylogenetic analysis revealed that these new sequences grouped with the phyla Acidobacteria, Planctomycetes, Actinobacteria, Gamma-, Alpha- and Delta-proteobacteria. Only a few bacterial clones were affiliated with Chloroflexi, Bacteroidetes, Firmicutes, Gemmatimonadetes, Verrucomicrobia, Nitrospirae, Beta-proteobacteria, Lentisphaerae and Dictyoglomi. A large fraction of the retrieved sequences (12%) did not fall into any taxonomic division previously characterized by molecular criteria, whereas four novel division-level lineages, termed candidate division SCMs, were identified. Bacterial community composition demonstrated significant differences in comparison to previous phylogenetic studies. This divergence was mainly triggered by the dominance of Acidobacteria and Actinobacteria and reflected a bacterial community different from that currently known for oxic and pristine marine sediments.  相似文献

[目的]本文研究南海北部陆坡神狐HS-PC500重力活塞岩心沉积物中微生物多样性.[方法]使用吖啶橙染色法计数沉积物中微生物丰度;提取沉积物微生物总DNA,使用特异性引物扩增古菌及细菌16SrRNA基因序列;对克隆文库进行系统发育分析.[结果]系统发育分析显示表层PC500-l(0-5 cm below sea floor,bsf)古菌以C3为主要类群,占该层总序列的25.6%;中层PC500-6(350-355 cm bsf)和底层PC500-11(790-795 cm bsf)古菌以Marine Benthic Group(MBG)-B为主要类群,分别占该层总序列的48.1%和38.9%.另有部分克隆序列属于MBG-A、Miscellaneous Crenarchaeotic Group(MCG)、Thermoprotei、NGC、Halobacteriales、MBG-E、South African Gold Mine Euryarchaeotic Group(SAGMEG).表层细菌以变形菌(Proteobacteria)为主要类群,占该层文库的38.3%.中层和底层细菌以绿弯菌(Choloflexi)和JS1为主要类群,分别占该层文库的28.1%、29.2%和39%、24.7%.另有部分克隆序列属于硝化螺旋菌(Nitrospirae)、放线菌(Actinobacteria)、酸杆菌(Acidobacteria)、OP8、螺旋体菌(Spirochaetes)、TM6、脱铁杆菌(Deferribacteres)、浮霉菌(Plantomycete).[结论]结果显示,HS-PC500岩心微生物丰度与甲烷浓度变化相吻合;微生物丰度较低可能与较低的总有机碳量有关;微生物多样性较高,并且随深度的增加群落结构变化明显;岩心中有关硫酸盐还原的微生物类群占优势,说明微生物的硫代谢在该海区沉积物的物质循环过程中占有重要地位.  相似文献

The continental shelf and slope in the northern South China Sea is well known for its prospect of oil/gas/gas-hydrate resources. To study microbial communities and their roles in carbon cycling, a 4.9-m sediment core was collected from the Qiongdongnan Basin on the continental slope of the South China Sea during our cruise HY4-2005-5 in 2005. Geochemical, mineralogical, and molecular phylogenetic analyses were carried out. Sulfate concentration in pore water decreased with depth. Abundant authigenic carbonates and pyrite were observed in the sediments. The bacterial community was dominated by aerobic and facultative organisms. Bacterial clone sequences belonged to the Gamma-, Alpha-, Deltaproteobacteria and Firmicutes group, and they were related to Fe(III) and/or Mn(IV) reducers, sulfate reducers, aromatic hydrocarbon degraders, thiosulfate/sulfite oxidizers, and denitrifiers. Archaeal clone sequences exhibited greater overall diversity than the bacterial clones with most sequences related to Deep-Sea Archaeal Group (DSAG), Miscellaneous Crenarchaeotic Group (MCG), and Uncultured Euryarchaeotic Clusters (UECs). Archaeal sequences related to Methanosarcinales, South African Gold Mine Euryarchaeotic Group (SAGMEG), Marine Benthic Group-D (MBG-D) were also present. Most of these groups are commonly present in deep-sea sediments, particularly in methane/organic-rich or putative methane hydrate-bearing sediments.  相似文献

This paper reports the results of pioneer study carried on the length-weight relationships (LWRs) of six deep-sea fishes of the Southeastern Arabian Sea. We have collected samples from the survey cruise of FORV Sagar Sampada during January and December 2014. A high-speed demersal trawler was used to collect the fishes from the depth ranging from 200 to 1000 m. The values for the parameter b of the length-weight relationship were estimated together with Coefficient of determination scores. This study provides valuable contributions to the estimates of length–weight relationships of the deep-sea fishes of Southeastern Arabian Sea.  相似文献

中国南海与作为海洋生物多样性中心的印太珊瑚大三角区具有一定的环境与生物连通性,其生境多样,为各种生物类群提供了有利的热带和亚热带海洋环境栖息地,具有极其丰富的生物多样性,是中国海洋生物多样性热点地区,也是重要的海洋生物多样性资源宝库。海洋细菌在生态系统循环中发挥重要作用,通过对南海海洋深层水细菌的探测,可以更加清晰地了解西太平洋和印太交汇区的生物多样性。研究基于参加开放项目获得的南海的深海站点水样,采用高通量测序进行了16S rRNA基因序列测序,分析了南海深海海水细菌群落多样性、菌群构成和多样性特征。该站点南海海洋深层水测定的细菌分属于15门、20纲、24目、86科、140属、150种,表明该区海洋深层水细菌群落丰富。测得优势菌属包括类芽胞杆菌属(Paenibacillus)、芽孢杆菌属(Bacillus)、海旋菌属(Thalassospira)、噬甲基菌属(Methylophaga)、拟杆菌属(Bacteroides)、纤细芽胞杆菌属(Gracilibacillus)、海洋芽胞杆菌属(Oceanobacillus)、海源菌属(Idiomarina)、嗜油菌属(Oleiphilus)、食碱菌属(Alcanivorax),这些属的细菌在生物材料或药物、生物燃料、水处理、降解石油烃等方面均有开发利用的潜力。属内的解淀粉芽孢杆菌(Lentibacillus amyloliquefaciens)、施氏假单胞菌(Pseudomonas stutzeri)、柴油食烷菌(Alcanivorax dieselolei)、三浦半岛盐乳杆菌(Halolactibacillus miurensis)、海迪茨氏菌(Dietzia maris)可以具体鉴定到种,这些深海细菌目前已在产抗生素、生物防治、石油降解、反硝化等方面被开发利用。基于高通量测序显示出采样点南海海洋深层水细菌具有独特菌群特征和多样性,有其极为丰富的生物学开发利用价值。  相似文献

Late summer cyanobacterial blooms in the Baltic Sea contain Anabaena sp. together with Nodularia spumigena and Aphanizomenon flos-aquae. Although Anabaena is common especially in the Gulf of Finland, very little is known about its genetic diversity. Here we undertook a molecular phylogenetic study of 68 Anabaena strains isolated from the brackish Gulf of Finland. We sequenced the 16S rRNA genes from 54 planktonic and 14 benthic Anabaena strains, and rbcL and rpoC1 genes from a subset of these strains. Phylogenetic trees showed that Anabaena strains, from both planktonic and benthic habitats, were genetically diverse. Although the Anabaena strains were morphologically diverse, in our study only one genetically valid species was found to exist in the plankton. Evolutionary distances between benthic Anabaena strains were greater than between planktonic strains, suggesting that benthic habitats allow for the maintenance of greater genetic diversity than planktonic habitats. A number of novel lineages containing only sequences obtained in this study were compiled in the phylogenetical analyses. Thus, it seemed that novel lineages of the genus Anabaena may be present in the Baltic Sea. Our results demonstrate that the Baltic Sea Anabaena strains show surprisingly high genetic diversity.  相似文献

Clones from the same marine bacterioplankton community were sequenced, 100 clones based on DNA (16S rRNA genes) and 100 clones based on RNA (16S rRNA). This bacterioplankton community was dominated by alpha-Proteobacteria in terms of repetitive DNA clones (52%), but gamma-Proteobacteria dominated in terms of repetitive RNA clones (44%). The combined analysis led to a characterization of phylotypes otherwise uncharacterized if only the DNA or RNA libraries would have been analyzed alone. Of the DNA clones, 25.5% were found only in this library and no close relatives were detected in the RNA library. For clones from the RNA library, 21.5% of RNA clones did not indicate close relatives in the DNA library. Based on the comparisons between DNA and RNA libraries, our data indicate that the characterization of the bacterial community based on RNA has the potential to characterize distinct phylotypes from the marine environment, which remain undetected on the DNA level.  相似文献

The ribosomal rRNA genes are widely used as genetic markers for taxonomic identification of microbes. Particularly the small subunit (SSU; 16S/18S) rRNA gene is frequently used for species‐ or genus‐level identification, but also the large subunit (LSU; 23S/28S) rRNA gene is employed in taxonomic assignment. The metaxa software tool is a popular utility for extracting partial rRNA sequences from large sequencing data sets and assigning them to an archaeal, bacterial, nuclear eukaryote, mitochondrial or chloroplast origin. This study describes a comprehensive update to metaxa – metaxa 2 – that extends the capabilities of the tool, introducing support for the LSU rRNA gene, a greatly improved classifier allowing classification down to genus or species level, as well as enhanced support for short‐read (100 bp) and paired‐end sequences, among other changes. The performance of metaxa 2 was compared to other commonly used taxonomic classifiers, showing that metaxa 2 often outperforms previous methods in terms of making correct predictions while maintaining a low misclassification rate. metaxa 2 is freely available from http://microbiology.se/software/metaxa2/ .  相似文献

The microbial diversity of cultivatable bacteria associated with the bryozoan species Flustra foliacea from the North Sea was investigated by a molecular approach. Amplified ribosomal RNA restriction analyses (ARDRA) and 16S rDNA partial sequence analysis revealed differences in the composition of cultivatable bacteria populations from single bryozoan colonies collected from two different sampling sites in the North Sea as well from one site taken at different points in time. Whereas gamma-Proteobacteria identified as Shewanella frigidimarina, Pseudoalteromonas ssp. and Psycbrobacter ssp. were predominant on samples of Flustra I (taken near the island of Helgoland), most bacteria isolated from Flustra II, originating from the Steingrund, could be affiliated to Gram-positive taxa. Survey of the bryozoan samples from the latter site in February 2000 led to the detection of a phylogenetically mixed bacterial population, consisting of gamma-, and alpha-Proteobacteria and Gram-positive bacteria with low and high GC-content (Flustra III). As these bacteria are among the most widely isolated organisms from the marine environment, it may be concluded that the bryozoan Flustra foliacea accepts colonization of surfaces by bacteria which are common inhabitants of the marine environment and which may have been transferred into this environment from terrestrial sites.  相似文献

In the era of metagenomics and amplicon sequencing, comprehensive analyses of available sequence data remain a challenge. Here we describe an approach exploiting metagenomic and amplicon data sets from public databases to elucidate phylogenetic diversity of defined microbial taxa. We investigated the phylum Chlamydiae whose known members are obligate intracellular bacteria that represent important pathogens of humans and animals, as well as symbionts of protists. Despite their medical relevance, our knowledge about chlamydial diversity is still scarce. Most of the nine known families are represented by only a few isolates, while previous clone library-based surveys suggested the existence of yet uncharacterized members of this phylum. Here we identified more than 22 000 high quality, non-redundant chlamydial 16S rRNA gene sequences in diverse databases, as well as 1900 putative chlamydial protein-encoding genes. Even when applying the most conservative approach, clustering of chlamydial 16S rRNA gene sequences into operational taxonomic units revealed an unexpectedly high species, genus and family-level diversity within the Chlamydiae, including 181 putative families. These in silico findings were verified experimentally in one Antarctic sample, which contained a high diversity of novel Chlamydiae. In our analysis, the Rhabdochlamydiaceae, whose known members infect arthropods, represents the most diverse and species-rich chlamydial family, followed by the protist-associated Parachlamydiaceae, and a putative new family (PCF8) with unknown host specificity. Available information on the origin of metagenomic samples indicated that marine environments contain the majority of the newly discovered chlamydial lineages, highlighting this environment as an important chlamydial reservoir.  相似文献

It is widely reported that coral reefs are suffering degradation from a combination of stresses. We have previously reported the use of genomic tools in the study of environmental impact assessment and hypothesize that monitoring the bacterial diversity associated with a coral would indicate changes in its health before visible damage occurs. This study analyzes the bacterial diversity associated with Porites coral collected from two sites in the Arabian Sea using culture independent techniques. Two clone libraries were constructed from the16S rDNA amplicons and selected individual clones were partially sequenced. Retrieved sequences were identified by BLAST analysis and indicate the presence of unidentified bacteria. Diversity index was calculated using Shannon–Wiener index. The bacterial diversity associated with coral sample 1 gives the index of species diversity, H 1 as 1.6287, divergence from eqiprobability as 45.708% and the evenness of the sample as 54.291. For coral sample 2, the values obtained were, H 1 as 1.97, divergence from eqiprobability as 15.11% and the evenness of the sample as 84.88. Sequences representing bacteria related to agricultural or industrial pollution and pathogenesis were also found. Coral samples collected near a lagoon area, showed a greater percentage of sequences representing bacteria related to human interventions, indicative of pollution.  相似文献

We present here a pollen record from the northern Indian Ocean that goes back to 200 ka, the boundary between marine isotopic stages (MIS) 7 and 6. Pollen, oxygen-isotopic composition and organic carbon have been examined for two sediment cores from the eastern Arabian Sea (15°02′N and 71°41′E, 13°16′N and 71°00′E), to reconstruct the long-term palaeoclimate and palaeovegetation of the Indian subcontinent. Oxygen-isotope data suggest that glacial periods (MIS 2, 4 and 6) are characterised by low precipitation because of a weak southwest monsoon and a strong northeast monsoon. In contrast, interglacial periods (MIS 1, 3 and 5) are marked by high fresh water input resulting from a strong southwest monsoon. During the last glacial-interglacial cycle, sea-surface temperature and surface salinity changed as a result of variations in the evaporation-precipitation (E-P) balance. Throughout the core, the dominant pollen types are Poaceae and Chenopodiaceae and/or Amaranthaceae (>50%). Their dominance during glacial periods (MIS 2, 4 and 6) suggests that the climate was cold and dry. This dominance is also suggestive of salinity-tolerant vegetation colonizing large areas near seashore due to lower sea level or high E-P conditions. During interglacial periods (MIS 1, 3 and 5) when there was high precipitation, the arid taxa were sparse, whereas Poaceae and Piperaceae were abundant. Hence, Chenopodiaceae and/or Amaranthaceae and Artemisia are suggestive of cold and arid/semi-arid climate, and Poaceae and Piperaceae of warm and wet conditions. To date, only a small number of investigations covering microbe–bryozoa associations have been carried out. Most of them have focused on a few bryozoan species and none have covered the antibacterial activities of associated bacteria. In the current study, the proportion and phylogenetic classification of Bryozoan-associated bacteria with antimicrobial properties were investigated. Twenty-one specimens of 14 different bryozoan species were collected from several sites in the Baltic and the Mediterranean Sea. A total of 340 associated bacteria were isolated, and 101 displayed antibiotic activities. While antibiosis was predominantly directed against Gram-positive test strains, 16S rRNA gene sequencing revealed affiliation of the isolates to Gram-negative classes (Flavobacteria, Alpha- and Gammaproteobacteria). One isolate was related to the Gram-positive Actinobacteria. The sequences were grouped into 27 phylotypes on the basis of similarity values ≥99.5%. A host-specific affiliation was not revealed as members of the same phylotype were derived from different bryozoan species. Site-specific patterns, however, were demonstrated. Strains of the genera Sphingomonas and Alteromonas were exclusively isolated from Mediterranean sites, whereas Shewanella, Marinomonas and Vibrio-related isolates were only from Baltic sites. Although Pseudoalteromonas affiliated strains were found in both habitats, they were separated into respective phylotypes. Isolates with 16S rDNA similarity values <98%, which could possibly represent new species, belonged to the genera Shewanella, Pseudoalteromonas and Tenacibaculum.  相似文献

Microbial diversity of 1,000 m deep pelagic sediment from off Coast of Andaman Sea was analyzed by a culture independent technique, bacterial tag encoded FLX titanium amplicon pyrosequencing. The hypervariable region of small subunit ribosomal rRNA gene covering V6–V9, was amplified from the metagenomic DNA and sequenced. We obtained 19,271 reads, of which 18,206 high quality sequences were subjected to diversity analysis. A total of 305 operational taxonomic units (OTUs) were obtained corresponding to the members of firmicutes, proteobacteria, plantomycetes, actinobacteria, chloroflexi, bacteroidetes, and verucomicrobium. Firmicutes was the predominant phylum, which was largely represented with the family bacillaceae. More than 44 % of sequence reads could not be classified up to the species level and more than 14 % of the reads could not be assigned to any genus. Thus, the data indicates the possibility for the presence of uncultivable or unidentified novel bacterial species. In addition, the community structure identified in this study significantly differs with other reports from marine sediments.  相似文献

Coral reefs are the most biodiverse and biologically productive of all marine ecosystems. Corals harbor diverse and abundant prokaryotic communities. However, little is known about the diversity of coral-associated bacterial communities. Mucus is a characteristic product of all corals, forming a coating over their polyps. The coral mucus is a rich substrate for microorganisms. Mucus was collected with a procedure using sterile cotton swabs that minimized contamination of the coral mucus by surrounding seawater. We used molecular techniques to characterize and compare the bacterial assemblages associated with the mucus of the solitary coral Fungia scutaria and the massive coral Platygyra lamellina from the Gulf of Eilat, northern Red Sea. The bacterial communities of the corals F. scutaria and P. lamellina were found to be diverse, with representatives within the Alphaproteobacteria, Betaproteobacteria, Gammaproteobacteria, Deltaproteobacteria and Epsilonproteobacteria, as well as the Actinobacteria, Cytophaga-Flavobacter/Flexibacter-Bacteroides group, Firmicutes, Planctomyces, and several unclassified bacteria. However, the total bacterial assemblage of these two corals was different. In contrast to the bacterial communities of corals analyzed in previous studies by culture-based and culture-independent approaches, we found that the bacterial clone libraries of the coral species included a substantial proportion of Actinobacteria. The current study further supports the finding that bacterial communities of coral mucus are diverse.  相似文献

In this study, we report on first 16S rRNA gene sequences from highly saline brine sediments taken at a depth of 1,515 m in the Kebrit Deep, northern Red Sea. Microbial DNA extracted directly from the sediments was subjected to PCR amplification with primers specific for bacterial and archaeal 16S rRNA gene sequences. The PCR products were cloned, and a total of 11 (6 bacterial and 5 archaeal) clone types were determined by restriction endonuclease digestion. Phylogenetic analysis revealed that most of the cloned sequences were unique, showing no close association with sequences of cultivated organisms or sequences derived from environmental samples. The bacterial clone sequences form a novel phylogenetic lineage (KB1 group) that branches between the Aquificales and the Thermotogales. The archaeal clone sequences group within the Euryarchaeota. Some of the sequences cluster with the group II and group III uncultivated archaea sequence clones, while two clone groups form separate branches. Our results suggest that hitherto unknown archaea and bacteria may thrive in highly saline brines of the Red Sea under extreme environmental conditions. Live (Rose Bengal stained) and dead benthic foraminiferal communities (hard-shelled species only) from the Pakistan continental margin oxygen minimum zone (OMZ) have been studied in order to determine the relation between faunal composition and the oxygenation of bottom waters. Samples were taken from 136 m to 1870 m water depth during the intermonsoon season of 2003 (March–April). Live foraminiferal densities show a clear maximum in the first half centimetre of the sediment only few specimens are found down to 4 cm depth. The faunas exhibit a clear zonation across the Pakistan margin OMZ. Down to 500 m water depth, Uvigerina ex gr. U. semiornata and Bolivina aff. B. dilatata dominate the assemblages. These taxa are largely restricted to the upper cm of the sediment. They are adapted to the very low bottom-water oxygen values (≈ 0.1 ml/l in the OMZ core) and the extremely high input of organic carbon on the upper continental slope. The lower part of the OMZ is characterised by cosmopolitan faunas, containing also some taxa that in other areas have been described in deep infaunal microhabitats. The contrast between faunas typical for the upper part of the OMZ, and cosmopolitan faunas in the lower part of the OMZ, may be explained by a difference in the stability of dysoxic conditions over geological time periods. The core of the OMZ has been characterised by prolonged periods of stable, strongly dysoxic conditions. The lower part of the OMZ, on the contrary, has been much more variable over time-scales of 1000s and 10,000 years because of changes in surface productivity and a fluctuating intensity of NADW circulation. We suggest that, as a consequence, well-adapted, shallow infaunal taxa occupy the upper part of the OMZ, whereas in the lower part of the OMZ, cosmopolitan deep infaunal taxa have repeatedly colonised these more intermittent low oxygen environments.  相似文献

根据1997~2000年东海大陆架水深30~200米海域4个航次的底拖网调查资料,运用多元分析(聚类分析和非度量多维标度(NMDS))、SIMPER以及BIO-ENV方法分析了东海鱼类群落的空间格局以及与非生物环境因子之间的关系。结果表明,东海大陆架海域鱼类群落在空间上可分为3个群落类型,分别为东海近海群落、东海大陆架外缘群落以及这两个群落之间的东海大陆架混合群落。东海大陆架鱼类群落的种类组成沿着水深梯度的变化明显,每种鱼类均有一定的水深范围。不同的流系具有不同的温盐特征,影响了鱼类的分布及其洄游,从而控制了不同鱼类群落类型的种类组成。东海大陆架鱼类群落类型中,大陆架外缘群落类型各调查季节在空间分布和种类组成上相对稳定,而东海近海群落类型和东海大陆架混合群落类型在夏季融合在一起,其它季节保持各自的空间结构。同时东海陆架区只在一种群落类型中出现的鱼类相对较少,多数鱼类同时出现在两个群落类型中或3个群落类型中,但是它们相对较集中的区域明显不同,在不同群落类型中的生物量和出现频率有很大的差异,这些鱼类在其不同的生长发育阶段由于对海洋环境的不同需求,它们根据繁殖或摄食需求而在东海陆架区范围内洄游以寻找最适的海洋环境,因此对3个群落类型定义是相对的,很难严格确定一个永久的鱼类群落地理区域,以形成相互隔离的鱼类群落,而且鱼类群落之间的边界随着季节不同发生变化。  相似文献

Distinct enterotypes have been observed in the human gut but little is known about the genetic basis of the microbiome. Moreover, it is not clear how many genetic differences exist between enterotypes within or between populations. In this study, both the 16S rRNA gene and the metagenomes of the gut microbiota were sequenced from 48 Han Chinese, 48 Kazaks, and 96 Uyghurs, and taxonomies were assigned after de novo assembly. Single nucleotide polymorphisms were also identified by referring to data from the Human Microbiome Project. Systematic analysis of the gut communities in terms of their abundance and genetic composition was also performed, together with a genome-wide association study of the host genomes. The gut microbiota of 192 subjects was clearly classified into two enterotypes (Bacteroides and Prevotella). Interestingly, both enterotypes showed a clear genetic differentiation in terms of their functional catalogue of genes, especially for genes involved in amino acid and carbohydrate metabolism. In addition, several differentiated genera and genes were found among the three populations. Notably, one human variant (rs878394) was identified that showed significant association with the abundance of Prevotella, which is linked to LYPLAL1, a gene associated with body fat distribution, the waist-hip ratio and insulin sensitivity. Taken together, considerable differentiation was observed in gut microbes between enterotypes and among populations that was reflected in both the taxonomic composition and the genetic makeup of their functional genes, which could have been influenced by a variety of factors, such as diet and host genetic variation.  相似文献
