A model for the detection of brief stimuli based on a change detection algorithm and a random walk traversed by the residuals generated by an adaptive filter is proposed. A linear relationship between mean RT and response proportion measures obtained in a simulation of the model was consistent with data obtained in psychophysical discrimination tasks using human observers. In this way the role of the sensory system as a detector of change in ambient stimulation could be incorporated into a signal detection model.  相似文献

For studying of the mechanism of adaptive response of plants the seeds of soft wheat Triticum aestivum cultivar Moscovskaya 39 were irradiated in doses 0.25, 50 and 0.25 + 50 Gy and the frequency of cells with aberrations and the mitotic activity in the meristem of seedlings were scored. The pre- and post-treatments of seeds with antioxidant--ambiol were also used. It was found that the exposure of seeds to 0.25 Gy reduce the effects of challenge dose of 50 Gy: the mitotic index increases and the frequency of cells with aberrations decreases--the adaptive response appear. It was also found that the pretreatment with ambiol reduce the effects of the irradiation in the dose of 50 Gy. Post-treatment was less efficiently. Both treatments raise the adaptive response. The correlation between the frequency of aberrant cells and the mitotic index was found and, regardless of the type of treatment all points of experiment fall on the common regression line with the regression coefficient -0.85 (p < 0.01). These facts serve as evidence (1) that the radioprotective effect by the pre- and post-treatment occurs by a common mechanism and (2) that the in the exhausted concentration antioxidant does not change the extent of genome damage inflicted by irradiation. The evidence is consistent with the hypothesis that a nonspecific inducible process of stimulated repopulation was a mechanism of adaptive response of plants.  相似文献

An attempt was made over a period of a year to reduce the number of anticonvulsants used to treat epilepsy in a hospital for the mentally handicapped. At least one drug was withdrawn for each of 20 patients, without loss of seizure control. Effect on wellbeing was assessed by a behavioural scale completed before and after withdrawal, and in the 20 cases of successful withdrawal wellbeing was significantly improved.  相似文献

The purpose of this research is to develop an intuitive and robust realtime QRS detection algorithm based on the physiological characteristics of the electrocardiogram waveform. The proposed algorithm finds the QRS complex based on the dual criteria of the amplitude and duration of QRS complex. It consists of simple operations, such as a finite impulse response filter, differentiation or thresholding without complex and computational operations like a wavelet transformation. The QRS detection performance is evaluated by using both an MIT-BIH arrhythmia database and an AHA ECG database (a total of 435,700 beats). The sensitivity (SE) and positive predictivity value (PPV) were 99.85% and 99.86%, respectively. According to the database, the SE and PPV were 99.90% and 99.91% in the MIT-BIH database and 99.84% and 99.84% in the AHA database, respectively. The result of the noisy environment test using record 119 from the MIT-BIH database indicated that the proposed method was scarcely affected by noise above 5 dB SNR (SE = 100%, PPV > 98%) without the need for an additional de-noising or back searching process.  相似文献

The aim of the study was to investigate the effect of nitrate on anaerobic color removal efficiencies. For this aim, anaerobic–aerobic sequencing batch reactor (SBR) fed with a simulated textile effluent including Remazol Brilliant Violet 5R azo dye was operated with a total cycle time of 12 h, including anaerobic (6 h) and aerobic cycles (6 h). Microorganism grown under anaerobic phase of the reactor was exposed to different amounts of competitive electron acceptor (nitrate) and performance of the system was determined by monitoring color removal efficiency, nitrate removal, nitrite formation and removal, oxidation reduction potential, color removal rate, chemical oxygen demand (COD), specific anaerobic enzyme (azo reductase) and aerobic enzyme (catechol 1,2 dioxygenase), and formation and removal of aromatic amines. Variations of population dynamics of microorganisms exposed to various amount of nitrate were identified by denaturing gradient gel electrophoresis (DGGE). It was found that nitrate has adverse effect on anaerobic color removal efficiency and color removal was achieved after denitrification process was completed. It was found that nitrate stimulates the COD removal efficiency and accelerates the COD removal in the first hour of anaerobic phase. About 90 % total COD removal efficiencies were achieved in which microorganism exposed to increasing amount of nitrate. Population dynamics of microorganisms exposed to various amount of nitrate were changed and diversity was increased.  相似文献

Advances in the manipulation of nanomaterials has permitted the development of nanobiotechnology with enhanced sensitivities and improved response times. Low levels of infection of the major pathogens require the need for sensitive detection platforms and the properties of nanomaterials make them suitable for the development of assays with enhanced sensitivity, improved response time and increased portability. Nanobiotechnologies focusing on the key requirements of signal amplification and pre-concentration for the development of sensitive assays for food-borne pathogen detection in food matrices will be described and evaluated. Pulse radiolysis experiments were performed on proteins under pressure. Whereas many spectroscopic techniques have shown protein modifications at different pressure ranges, the present measurements performed using the water radiolysis allowed to generate radical species and to study the mechanisms implied in their reactions with proteins. This work gives the first results obtained on the effects of pressure on the rate constants of the proteins reduction by the hydrated electron at pressures up to 100 MPa. The reaction with the hydrated electron was investigated on two classes of protein: the horse myoglobin and the mussel metallothioneins. We have successively studied the influence of the pH value of metmyoglobin solutions (pH 6, 7 and 8) and the influence of the metals nature (Zn,Cu,Cd) bound to metallothioneins. For both protein, whatever the experimental conditions, the pressure does not influence the value of the reduction rate constant in the investigated range (0.1-100 MPa).  相似文献

Stimulus correlation and adaptive movement detection, among other tasks can be performed with VLSI general-purpose neurons that have controllable steady and transient responses. This paper presents experimental results of simple neural primitives based on the CMOS neuron approach described in [11]. Stimulus correlation experiments illustrate the well defined behavior of the CMOS approach. This basic primitive is used to implement motion detectors with adaptive capabilities that enable it to work efficiently in a wide velocity range.  相似文献

The effect of temperature and benzalkonium chloride (BAC) on nitrate reduction was investigated in batch assays using a mixed nitrate reducing culture. Nitrate was transformed completely, mainly through denitrification, to dinitrogen at 5, 10, 15 and 22 °C. In the absence of BAC, reduction of individual nitrogen oxides had different susceptibility to temperature and transient nitrite accumulation was observed at low temperatures. When the effect of BAC was tested up to 100 mg/L from 5 to 22 °C, denitrification was inhibited at and above 50 mg BAC/L with transient nitrite accumulation at all temperatures. The effect of BAC was described by a competitive inhibition model. Nitrite reduction was the denitrification step most susceptible to BAC, especially at low temperatures. BAC was not degraded during the batch incubation and was mostly biomass-adsorbed. Overall, this study shows that low temperatures exacerbate the BAC inhibitory effect, which in turn is controlled by adsorption to biomass.  相似文献

The effect of dissolved oxygen concentration on nitrogenase activity was studied in three species of photosynthetic bacteria. The O2 concentration in the cell suspension was measured with an O2 electrode inserted into the reaction vessel. Acetylene reduction by whole cells of Rhodopseudomonas capsulata, Rhodospirillum rubrum, and Chromatium vinosum strain D was inhibited 50% by 0.73, 0.32, and 0.26 microM O2, respectively. The inhibition of the activity by O2 in R. capsulata usually was reversed completely by reestablishing anaerobic conditions. In R. rubrum and C. vinosum the inhibition was only partially reversible. The respiration rate of R. capsulata was the highest of the three, that of R. rubrum was intermediate, and that of C. vinosum was lowest. R. capsulata and R. rubrum cells were broken after their acetylene reduction activity in vivo had been completely inhibited by O2, and nitrogenase was found to be active in vitro. A concentration of cyanide that did not affect acetylene reduction activity, but which inhibited 75 to 90% of the O2 uptake by whole cells of R. capsulata, shifted the O2 concentration causing 50% inhibition of nitrogenase activity from 0.73 microM to 2.03 microM. These results are in accordance with the assumption that within a limited range of O2 concentrations, the respiratory activity of the cells is enough to scavenge the O2 and to keep the interior of the cells essentially anaerobic. It is suggested that O2 inhibits nitrogenase activity by competing for a limited supply of electrons. When cyanide is present, respiration is slower but is adequate to keep the nitrogenase environment in the cell anaerobic. The lower respiration rate may allow a greater proportion of the electrons to be used for acetylene reduction.  相似文献

Summary Reducing the size of crude cellulase from Trichoderma reesei with various proteases showed that while the -glucosidase activity on CMC generally increased, the extent of hydrolysis of hardwood and pretreated hardwood decreased. Foraging animals must balance benefits of food acquisition with costs induced by a post-prandial reduction in performance. Eating to satiation can lead to a reduction in locomotor and escape performance, which increases risk should a threat subsequently arises, but limiting feeding behaviour may be maladaptive if food intake is unnecessarily reduced in the prediction of threats that do not arise. The efficacy of the trade-off between continued and interrupted feeding therefore relies on information about the future risk, which is imperfect. Here, we find that black carp (Mylopharyngodon piceus) can balance this trade-off using an a posteriori strategy; by eating to satiation but regurgitating already ingested food when a threat arises. While degrees of satiation (DS) equal to or greater than 60% reduce elements of escape performance (turning angle, angular velocity, distance moved, linear velocity), at 40% DS or lower, performance in these tasks approaches levels comparable to that at 0% satiation. After experiencing a chasing event, we find that fish are able to regurgitate already ingested food, thereby changing the amount of food in their gastrointestinal tract to consistent levels that maintain high escape performance. Remarkably, regurgitation results in degrees of satiation between 40 and 60% DS, regardless of whether they had previously fed to 40, 60 or 100% DS. Using this response, fish are able to maximize food intake, but regurgitate extra food to maintain escape performance when they encounter a threat. This novel strategy may be effective for continual grazers and species with imperfect information about the level of threat in their environment.  相似文献

We studied the effect of adaptive biocontrol on the quality of the professional activity of an operator possessing stable skills in modeling manual control of station-keeping and berthing to the International Space Station (ISS) of the Soyuz transport ship. The operational quality was evaluated in terms of time, energy, and precision parameters.
