Dogs fed raw camel meat containing two types of cysts shed unsporulated Hammondia heydorni oocysts and later sporulated Sarcocystis sporocysts in their feces, but were resistant to reinfection with the Hammondia cysts. Sporulated H. heydorni occysts did not induce an enteroepithelial cycle in dogs, but resulted in the formation of muscle cysts. 相似文献

A total of 13 metacestodes were collected from the lung and parietal pleura from a red brocket deer (Mazama americana) from the Peruvian Amazon. All metacestodes were identified as cysticerci of Taenia omissa by morphological and molecular analyzes. Cytochrome c oxidase subunit 1 sequences from the new isolate T. omissa had more than 96.8% identity with other Peruvian isolates of the species previously sequenced. Lower similarities (93.8–95.8%) were verified between Peruvian and Canadian isolates. This finding adds a new intermediate host for T. omissa and also expands its geographical distribution. 相似文献

A survey of helminths in domestic pigs was conducted in Khong District, Laos, to elucidate if these domestic animals could act as definitive hosts for Schistosoma mekongi and to obtain a general overview of their helminthological infection status. Fecal samples were collected from 98 pigs. Twelve pigs (12.2%) were found to excrete S. mekongi eggs. Infection was confirmed by detection of S. mekongi eggs in tissues of liver, rectum, and cecum of 2 pigs. A total of 75.8% of the pigs was infected with 1 or more helminth species. This study showed that pigs may act as a definitive host for S. mekongi. 相似文献

Heath D. D., 1971. The migration of oncospheres of Taenia pisiformis, T. serialis and Echinococcus granulosus within the intermediate host. International journal for Parasitology, 1: 145–152. The oncospheres of Taenia pisiformis and T. serialis hatched, became activated and penetrated the tips of the villi in the jejunal area of the rabbit small intestine. Similar results were obtained forE. granulosus, T. hydatigena and T. ovis in sheep. Most species of oncospheres appeared to progress down the villus beneath the columnar epithelium until a venule of diameter sufficient to allow passive transport to the liver was penetrated. The relatively large villus lacteal of ruminants, and the large diameter ofE. granulosus oncospheres, appeared to provide an opportunity for these organisms to penetrate the lacteal and translocate in the lymph. Parenteral inoculations of activated oncospheres indicated that T. pisiformis and E. granulosus oncospheres probably reach the liver in the portal vein. E. granulosus oncospheres infecting the lung may reach that organ in the lymph. T. serialis oncospheres were able to pass through both the liver and lungs in order to reach the muscles. A stimulus may exist in the liver causing cessation of movement and initiation of postoncospheral development for T. pisiformis and E. granulosus, but not T. serialis. 相似文献

The nine-banded armadillo (Dasypus novemcinctus) is an intermediate host of at least three species of Sarcocystis, Sarcocystis dasypi, Sarcocystis diminuta, and an unidentified species; however, life cycles of these species have not been determined. Following feeding of armadillo muscles containing sarcocysts to the Virginia opossum (Didelphis virginiana), the opossums shed sporulated Sarcocystis sporocysts in their faeces. Mean dimensions for sporocysts were 11.0x7.5 microm and each contained four sporozoites and a residual body. Sporocysts were identified as Sarcocystis neurona using PCR and DNA sequencing. A 2-month-old foal that was negative for S. neurona antibodies in the CSF was orally inoculated with 5x10(5) sporocysts. At 4 weeks post-infection, the foal had a 'low positive' result by immunoblot for CSF antibodies to S. neurona and by week 6 had a 'strong positive' CSF result and developed an abnormal gait with proprioceptive deficits and ataxia in all four limbs. Based on the results of this study, the nine-banded armadillo is an intermediate host of S. neurona. 相似文献

Striped skunks, initially negative for antibodies to Sarcocystis neurona, formed sarcocysts in skeletal muscles after inoculation with S. neurona sporocysts collected from a naturally infected Virginia opossum (Didelphis virginiana). Skunks developed antibodies to S. neurona by immunoblot and muscles containing sarcocysts were fed to laboratory-reared opossums which then shed sporulated Sarcocystis sporocysts in their faeces. Mean dimensions for sporocysts were 11.0 x 7.5 microm and each contained four sporozoites and a residuum. Sarcocysts from skunks and sporocysts from opossums fed infected skunk muscle were identified as S. neurona using PCR and DNA sequence analysis. A 2-month-old, S. neurona-naive pony foal was orally inoculated with 5 x 10(5) sporocysts. Commercial immunoblot for antibodies to S. neurona performed using CSF collected from the inoculated pony was low positive at 4 weeks p.i., positive at 6 weeks p.i., and strong positive at 8 weeks p.i. Gamma-interferon gene knockout mice inoculated with skunk/opossum derived sporocysts developed serum antibodies to S. neurona and clinical neurologic disease. Merozoites of S. neurona present in the lung, cerebrum, and cerebellum of mice were detected by immunohistochemistry using polyclonal antibodies to S. neurona. Based on the results of this study, the striped skunk is an intermediate host of S. neurona. 相似文献

Pathogen-induced vascular gels: Ethylene as a host intermediate 总被引:8,自引:0,他引:8

A cell free culture filtrate from 6-day cultures of Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. cubense was processed to give: (1) a heterogeneous enzyme mixture, (2) purified polygalacturonase (PG), (3) partially-purified polygalacturonate lyase and (4) β-1,4-xylanase. When introduced into explanted castor bean leaves each of these preparations was able to promote the formation of vascular system-obstructing gels. Exposure of castor bean leaves to ethylene (3 ppm) also triggered gel formation. Explanted leaves produced ethylene in response to the enzyme mixture and PG. Vascular gel formation did not occur when ethylene production in response to enzymes was prevented. 相似文献

Livers from 4,501 deer mice (Peromyscus maniculatus) collected from a weedy habitat in northeastern California during 48 consecutive monthly samplings were examined microscopically for Taenia taeniaeformis larva. Although there were pronounced seasonal fluctuations in host density, there were no significant annual or season-related differences in cestode intensities in adult deer mice. There were no significant differences in prevalences associated with sex of the host, nor were there significant changes in level of reproduction noted between infected and non-infected hosts. There were, however, significant differences in prevalences between young (1.2%) and adult (4.2%) hosts. Plausible mechanisms for this age-related difference in prevalence rates include (1) differential susceptibility due to the activity pattern of adult mice and/or (2) passive immunity in neonates as a result of colostrum- and/or transplacentally-transferred immunoglobulins and (3) capture of subadult animals before they had completed the period of highest susceptibility to T. taeniaeformis. Density of larvae per mouse liver was determined during a 21 mo consecutive period. The intensity of T. taeniaeformis larvae was not significantly different between the sexes of the adult mice. The larval stage showed an overdispersion pattern within the adult population. These results suggest that determinations of T. taeniaeformis abundances can be accurately made, at least in this P. maniculatus population, at any time of the year provided adjustment is made for the relative age structure of the host population. 相似文献
