Serum zinc was measured in 20 adolescent gymnasts (9 boys, 11 girls, age 12–15 yr) explored for detecting possible adverse effects of intense training on pubertal maturation and growth. They had low serum zinc (0.599±0.026 mg/L) when compared to matched control sedentary children (n=118 mean 0.81±0.014p<0.001). Girls had lower zinc than boys (0.557±0.023 vs 0.651±0.044p<0.001). Zinc was correlated to isometric adductor strength (r=0.468p<0.05). Children with serum zinc <0.6 mg/L had lower insulin-like growth factor binding protein 3 than others (2.326±0.264 vs 2.699±0.12p<0.01). Thus, zinc is lowered in trained adolescent gymnasts and even lower in females. This reduction could play some role in abnormalities of puberty, growth, or muscular performance.  相似文献

The objective of this study was to investigate and compare the factors influencing plyometric jumping performance between well-trained gymnasts and a control group. Seventy-six gymnasts and 91 moderately active subjects volunteered to participate in this study. Drop jumps (DJ) were performed from 20-, 40-, 60-, 80-, and 100-cm heights. Flight time (FT) and contact time (CT) were recorded using contact mat. Flight time to contact time (FC) ratio and Bosco expression (BE) were calculated. Male gymnasts scored similar FT to their controls, whereas female gymnasts had significantly longer FT compared with their peers. The gymnasts obtained significantly shorter CT than their control groups, whereas their FC ratios were significantly higher and increased when the height of the drops was close to 60 cm. Moreover, gymnasts' BE was greater in comparison to their respective control groups independent of the drop height. The height of the drop that produced the best FC ratio and BE varied between the groups. The best performances were obtained between 40- and 60-cm drop height for both groups. Female control group showed a trend toward a continuing decline with the increase of the drop height. The best gymnasts (finalists at World Championships) obtained their best performance at 80-cm drop. Flight time is the less discriminating factor distinguishing gymnasts' DJ performances. Considering CT, FC, and BE results all together could better profile the gymnasts rather than taken separately. Bosco expression was shown to be more sensitive to the increase in FT; we suggest BE as the best criteria to assess the appropriate drop height for plyometric training purposes in gymnasts as it has been significantly correlated to FT.  相似文献

High-intensity training can alter the normal pattern of pubertal development in elite gymnasts. We investigated sex hormones, the ob gene product leptin, body composition, nutrition, and eating habits in female and male elite gymnasts from national cadres to elucidate gender-related differences. Serum leptin levels were decreased, particularly in pubertal girls, and did not show the normal developmental pattern. After leptin levels were transformed into standard deviation scores, mainly pubertal female gymnasts had significantly lower values than normal controls of the same gender, pubertal stage, and body mass index. The percentage of body fat was reduced compared with a normal age-matched population in both genders but to a higher degree in female gymnasts. When leptin standard deviation scores were based on percent body fat instead of body mass index, mean values were still significantly decreased compared with those of normal controls: -1.05 in girls (P < 0.001) and -0.60 in boys (P = 0.025). In both genders, total energy consumption and nutritional intake were insufficient, although to a lesser extent in male gymnasts. Pubertal development is influenced to a different degree in female and male elite gymnasts. In contrast to their male counterparts, high-intensity training takes place during the sensitive phase of pubertal maturation in female gymnasts. Whereas the girls displayed low estrogen levels, hypoleptinemia, reduced body fat mass, insufficient caloric intake, and retarded menarche, the pubertal development of male gymnasts remained almost unaltered.  相似文献

In India, about 0.86 million people is engaged in pulling cycle rickshaws as occupation. There is no anthropometric data of cycle rickshaw pullers although data is available for Indian population. The objective of the study was to collect anthropometric data of the cycle rickshaw pullers so that these could be utilized for redesigning a cycle rickshaw. Anthropometric data for 34 body measurements were recorded from 880 rickshaw pullers (age 18 to 66 years) of four different places in India. The mean values of different standing heights, different lengths and breadths of cycle rickshaw pullers were significantly lower compared with Indian population. However, there was no significant difference in erect sitting height. The outcome of the research project is beneficial for the manufacturers of cycle rickshaws and similar products well as users of such products, including rickshaw pullers. The manufacturers would be able to use the data for fabricating newer models of cycle rickshaws which would be more compatible for rickshaw pullers as well as passengers.  相似文献

Competitive rhythmic sportive gymnastics have been accused of promoting an unphysiologic weight reduction which may progress to manifest anorexia nervosa. In this study, eight young female gymnasts who represented Norway in the European Championships in Rhythmic Sportive Gymnastics 1982 were examined for evidence of malnutrition. Ten girls, matched for age and height, served as controls. The examination included registration of anthropometric data (height, weight, and body-mass index), motor and sensory neurography and biopsies of the vastus lateralis muscle with exact measurements of muscle fibre areas on sections stained for myofibrillar ATPase activity. The mean body weight of the gymnasts did not differ from that of the control group or of a large series of age matched Norwegian females. This finding excludes the possibility of general malnutrition among the examined gymnasts. Muscle fibres of both types 1 and 2 were found to be smaller in the gymnasts than in the controls, with values of 3,404 microns2 vs 3,811 microns2 for type-1 fibres and 2,985 microns2 vs 3,942 microns2 for type-2 fibres respectively. Although contradictory to most previous reports, this finding suggests that the reduction in fibre size among the gymnasts might be an effect of physical training. There were some differences in neurographic parameters between the groups, but the mean values were all within normal ranges. The motor nerve conduction velocity in the proximal segments of the median and ulnar nerves was significantly slower in the gymnasts and, as a possible consequence of smaller muscle fibres, the motor responses were generally less in this group.  相似文献

The purpose of this investigation was to determine the possible relationships between anthropometrical and health-related fitness parameters in obese middle-aged women. Twenty one obese (BMI > 27 kg/m2) and 12 control (BMI < 27 kg/m2) middle-aged females (35-45 yrs) participated in this investigation. Three series of anthropometrical measurements on the right side of the body were taken according to the O-scale physique assessment system. The Heath-Carter anthropometric somatotyping method was used and the ratio of waist to hip circumferences was calculated. The body composition was measured using bioelectrical impedance method (Bodystat-500, UK). The following health-related fitness tests used were: dynamic sit-up, hand grip, sit-and-reach, single leg balance and plate tapping. Physical working capacity (PWC) was measured using single ergometer test. Obese women possessed significantly higher (p < 0.05) values for skinfold, girth and breadth measurements. While the differences in somatotype indices were not statistically significant (p > 0.05) between obese and control groups, the transformation of somatotype characteristics to the effect sizes (ESs) revealed that these differences were large (ectomorphy: ES = 1.73; endomorphy: ES = 1.64; mesomorphy: ES = 1.71). Relative aerobic fitness (VO2max/kg, calculated from PWC) and dynamic sit-up were higher (p < 0.05) in control subjects, while obese women presented significantly higher values for hand grip strength. The thicker skinfold thicknesses increased the absolute value of PWC in obese group (r = 0.39-0.57; p < 0.05). In contrast, the thinner skinfold thicknesses in suprailiac and mid-thigh significantly increased the absolute value of PWC in control women. There were only a few significant correlations between girth and breadth measures, and health-related fitness parameters. In addition, somatotype characteristics seldom influenced the results of health-related fitness tests. Stepwise multiple regression analysis demonstrated that health-related fitness test items were more dependent on the anthropometrical parameters in obese than in control women.  相似文献

Morphometrical characteristics of the skeletal muscle fibers of the m. vastus lateralis has been presented in the skaters of a high qualification. The muscle biopsies have been obtained by means of the needle biopsy method from 5 sprinters and 10 classical all-round competitors. Longitudinal sections of the peripheral and central parts of the muscle fiber have been investigated, subdividing the fibers in accordance with certain ultrastructural criteria into two types: slow and fast. The area of mitochondria, myofibrils, lipid inclusions has been determined by means of the system of the image analysis ACM-68K (Leitz, BRD). To the defining factors in the skater muscle ultrastructure, influencing the level of sporting achievements, a high parameter of the volumetric density of the whole mitochondrial population (7.6% in the sprinters and 9.2% in the all-around competitors) and an exceptionally high parameter of the sarcoplasmic density (28.5% in the sprinters and 36% in the all-around competitors) should be ascribed. The morphometrical data of the skaters muscle fiber are compared with the muscle parameters (according to the literature data) of the m. vastus lateralis in high qualification sportsmen of other specialization and in nontrained persons.  相似文献

Mechanical loading through youth exercise is highly modifiable and represents a strategy to maximize peak adult bone mass, with the potential for broad implementation across the population to lower fracture risk. For girls, circum-menarcheal growth is critical, with around 50% of adult bone acquired over a 4-year period. Here, we prospectively followed 10 gymnasts and 12 age-matched non-gymnasts across approximately 4 years circum-menarche. A combination of pQCT and subject-specific finite element models were used to measure differences in bone acquisition and structure between the groups, and to determine the degree to which specific mechanical factors predict change in bone structure. At baseline, gymnasts had stronger bone, including 26% higher BMC, 51% greater compressive strength, and 21% higher trabecular density. Over the study period, both groups more than doubled their bone strength. Pre-menarcheal principal stresses predicted change in pQCT variables for non-gymnasts, but not gymnasts. The bone of non-gymnasts became more asymmetrical than the bone of gymnasts. Our results suggest that exposure to the diverse, intense mechanical signals of gymnastic loading during adolescence imparts substantial benefits to bone geometry and mechanical function. Specifically, the bone of gymnasts is better able to resist loading from multiple directions, and operates with a higher factor of safety compared to non-gymnasts.  相似文献

Prognostic express diagnosis of metabolic dysregulation was tested in highly qualified athletes engaged in various Olympic sports. The method is based on laser correlation spectroscopy (LCS) of biological fluids, which has widely been approved for use in medicine and evaluation of risks for natural and anthropogenic anomalies. Evaluating the risk for metabolic dysregulations with the relevant criteria will help to objectively estimate the efficiency of preventive actions in athletes.  相似文献

In 1933, at the 5th Regional Sokol Meeting in Ljubljana which was at the time a place in the Yugoslav Kingdom, Skerlj carried out the first measurements of 189 gymnasts, active competitors; in 2000, at the World Cup Meeting in Ljubljana, Cuk and associates carried out measurements of 40 top gymnasts. Our analysis of identical variables has shown that there is no difference in body height and weight of the gymnasts in 1933 and those in 2000, while there is a significant difference in the width of their shoulders and pelvis, the contemporary athletes being wider in their shoulders and narrower in their pelvis. The differences can be assigned to the new requirements in contemporary gymnastics as exercises are becoming more difficult, including more rotation around the vertical and horizontal axis.  相似文献

People with spinal cord injury (SCI) experience bone and muscle loss in their paralyzed limbs that is most rapid and severe in the first 3 years after injury. Restoration of mechanical loading through therapeutic physical activity may potentially slow or reverse post-SCI bone loss, however, therapeutic targets cannot be developed without accurate biomechanical models. Obesity is prevalent among SCI population, and it alters body composition and further affects parameters of these models. Here, clinical whole body dual-energy X-ray absorptiometry data from people with acute (n = 39) and chronic (n = 61) SCI were analyzed to obtain anthropometric parameters including segment masses, center of mass location, and radius of gyration for both obese and non-obese individuals. Chronic SCI was associated with higher normalized trunk mass of 3.2%BW and smaller normalized leg mass of 1.8%BW in males, but no significant changes in segment centers of mass or radius of gyration. People with chronic SCI had 58.6% lean mass in the trunk, compared to 66.6% lean mass in those with acute SCI (p = 0.01), with significant changes in all segments. Obesity was associated with an increase in trunk mass proportion of 3.1%BW, proximal shifts in thigh and upper arm center of mass, and changes to thigh and shank radius of gyration. The data presented here can be used to accurately represent the anthropometrics of SCI population in biomechanical studies, considering obesity and injury duration.  相似文献

The effect of high supercoil densities on the melting characteristics of a supercoiled DNA has been studied. It is found that although the melting temperature increases abruptly on converting a linear DNA merely into the relaxed circular form, it falls back substantially at high supercoil densities. It is further predicted, in such cases, that the number of melted base pairs should be significantly enhanced even at the physiological temperature, which may facilitate the binding of other molecules to the highly supercoiled DNA.  相似文献

Women's handball is a sport, which has seen an accelerated development over the last decade. Although anthropometric and physical characteristics have been studied for male sports teams, in women's handball, studies are scarce. The aim of this study was twofold: first, to describe the anthropometric characteristics, throwing velocity, hand grip, and muscular power of the lower limbs in female handball players and second, to identify the possible differences in these parameters in terms of individual playing positions (center, back, wing, pivot, and goalkeeper). A total of 130 elite female Spanish handball players participated in the study (age 25.74 ± 4.84 years; playing experience 14.92 ± 4.88 years). Anthropometric assessment was performed for all the subjects following the International Society for the Advancement of Kinanthropometry protocols. Furthermore, all the subjects performed a vertical jump test (squat jump and countermovement jump). Hand grip and throwing velocity in several situations were also assessed. A 1-way analysis of variance and a Tukey post hoc test were used to study the differences among individual playing positions. Wings were less heavy, shorter, and showed a smaller arm span than did goalkeepers, backs and pivots (p ≤ 0.001). Additionally, pivots were heavier than centers. Backs and pivots exhibited higher muscular mass than did wings. Total players' somatotype was mesomorphy endomorphy (3.89-4.28-2.29). Centers showed higher throwing velocity levels than did wings in 9-m throws from just behind the line, with a goalkeeper. Backs exhibited higher hand-grip values than did wings. Statistical differences have been established between wings and other specific playing positions, especially with pivot and backs. Coaches can use this information to select players for the different specific positions.  相似文献

Nutrient intake of 29 male (M Group) and 16 female (F Group) highly competitive collegiate karate players were compared. The results were also compared with the daily energy expenditure (DEE), Japanese recommended dietary allowances (RDAs) or adequate dietary intakes (ADIs). Dietary information was collected using a 3-weekday diet record. Although the M Group showed significantly higher mean %RDAs or %ADIs in iron, vitamin B1, phosphorus, magnesium, and sodium than the F Group, many of the mean %RDAs or %ADIs were below RDAs or ADIs in both groups. The subjects who skipped meals tended to show lower mean %DEE, Japanese %RDAs or %ADIs in minerals and vitamins than the subjects who did not skip in both M and F Groups. The consumption of green and other vegetables and milk and dairy products in both M and F Groups were low. It is concluded that the male and female highly competitive karate players studied in the present study may be at risk of sub-optimal nutrient intake, which increases the potential for nutrient deficiency. The subjects were advised not to skip meals, and to consume a balanced high-carbohydrate, moderate-protein, low-fat diet with increasing green and other vegetables and milk and dairy products to increase mineral, vitamin and dietary fiber intakes.  相似文献

Highly concentrated anaerobic sludge digestion is a favorable way to treat a considerable quantity of sewage sludge and recover biogas from both environmental and energetic point of view. For enhancing mass transfer and ensuring efficient anaerobic digestion, pumping and mixing are crucial operations which are directly conditioned by the rheology of sludge. The present work aims at studying the rheological characteristics of highly concentrated anaerobic digested sludge with TS (total solid) content more than 8%. The dependence on both TS content and temperature is investigated, respectively, in dynamic and flow measurements. The results show a shear-thinning behavior with a yield stress under flow measurements and a viscoelastic property in dynamic measurements, comparable to a pasty material. The Herschel–Bulkley model can describe these experimental results and a master curve is then proposed. In addition, the yield stress as well as cohesion energy increase with TS content following a power-law. The effect of temperature is relatively smaller, as a consequence of pronounced internal interactions strengthening the interior structure after the digestion, in the form of networks and steric linking.  相似文献
