Cytological features are presented for the first time for 12 species and one natural hybrid from 16 Brazilian populations of the genus Xyris , including members of two sections ( Xyris and Nematopus ). The results are compared with a review of all available chromosome numbers previously reported for the genus. All analysed species show semi-reticulate interphase nuclei and prophase to prometaphase chromosomes with heterogeneous condensing behaviour. Chromosome numbers varied between 2 n = 26 and 2 n ≈ 108. In Brazil especially, the karyological differentiation of Xyris seems to be generally characterized by dysploid and polyploid increase of the chromosome number, possibly after interspecific hybridization. This is the first cytological study including species of the section Nematopus and the first karyological investigation including South American species of the genus Xyris . © 2002 The Linnean Society of London, Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society , 138 , 245–252.  相似文献

Karyotype (2fl) and allozymc diversity at 37 gene loci were determined in 69 subterranean mole rats in Turkey belonging to the two superspecies: the ancestor Spalax leucodon ( n = 55; 20 populations) and the descendant S. ehrenbergi ( n = 14; lour populations). We identified remarkable variation of diploid chromosome numbers in the S. leucodon superspecies: 2 n = 38. 40. 50, 54, 60 and 62; and in the S. ehrenbergi superspecies: 2 n = 52, 56 and 58. Genetic diversity indices were low on average in both S. leucodon and S. ehrenbergi superspecies: Allele diversity, A = 1.081 and 1.074; polymorphism, P-5%= 0.077 and 0.068; heterozygosity, H = 0.038 and 0.027; and gene diversity, H, = 0.038 and 0.034, respectively. H ranged from 0 in mesic or semimesic regions to 0.088 in arid Anatolia. We consider the populations with different diploid chromosome numbers, 2 n , as good biological species. Karyotypic diversity may mark extensive ecological speciation. Nei's genetic distances, D (average 0.174, range 0.002 0.422) and ecogeographical criteria suggest that almost each population may represent a different biological species, but critical future testing is necessary to support this claim. Karyotypes and allozymes are nonrandomly distributed across Turkey, displaying remarkable correlations with climatic and biolir factors. Both In and H are significantly correlated with aridity stress (2 n /rainfall, r , =–0.74; P < 0.001), and in our region also with climatic unpredictability. These results support the niche-width genetic variation hypothesis in space and time. Climatic selection in Turkey appears to be a major architect of karyotype and genetic (allozymc) diversity and divergence in mole rat evolution, in both speciation and adaptation.  相似文献

Chromosome numbers and measurements were recorded in 22 individuals from six populations of six species of Onobrychis , including the Egyptian species and most representatives of section Lophobrychis . The basic number of chromosomes was either x = 7 or x = 8 and the chromosomes were medium to medium-small, ranging in length, from c . 1.6 μm to 2.6 μm. Two new ploidy levels were found, 2 n = 4 x = 28 in O. bobrovii Grossh. and 2 n = 4 x = 32 in O. pulchella Schrenk. The origin of the chromosome numbers, geographical distribution and evolution of the species were assessed. Comparison of the data with those in the literature revealed that the observed interspecific variability among section Lophobrychis can be useful in taxonomic delimitation and demonstrates a complexity of evolution between the diploid and polyploid species. Section Lophobrychis has a comparatively highly derived organization and can be considered as a heterogeneous unit in the genus Onobrychis .  © 2002 The Linnean Society of London, Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society , 2002, 139 , 409–414.  相似文献

KONDO, K. & LAVARACK, P. S., 1984. A cytotaxonomic study of some Australian species of Drosera L. (Droseraceae). Karyomorphological comparisons of 15 species of Australian Drosera are presented along with 11 new chromosome counts. In Australia the genus forms an extensive aneuploid series. The species which have chromosome numbers from n =10 to n = 19 show large chromosomes, while those which have chromosome numbers more than 20 show small chromosomes. Drosera paleacca shows the lowest chromosome number in the genus, 2 n = 10, with 10 large chromosomes, indicating a new basic number, x = 5. The non-staining gap between the chromatids of each chromosome is rather wide and their centromeric region is not seen throughout prophase, prometaphase, and metaphase. The C-banding and silver-staining analyses in Drosera petiolaris chromosomes suggest that Drosera chromosomes could have diffuse centromeres and simplified C-segments. Some taxonomic implications are considered, notably the possible removal of Drosera banksii from Drosera section Ergaleium to Drosera section Lasiocephala and the reduction to synonymy of Drosera section Prolifera .  相似文献

New chromosome counts are reported for Boronia clavata 2 n  = 14, B. heterophylla 'Near White' 2 n  = 15, B.  'Carousel' 2 n  = 16, B. deanei 2 n  = 22, B. chartacea 2 n  = 32, B. keysii 2 n  = 32, B. pilosa 2 n  = 44, B. anethifolia 2 n  = 36 and B. citriodora 2 n  = 108. Studies in 20 genotypes of 18 species and one interspecific hybrid revealed that they are highly complex in terms of chromosome number, ploidy level, chromosomal length, karyotype constitution and asymmetry. Karyotype analysis indicated that Boronia taxa with high chromosome numbers are primitive and those with lower numbers are derived. The basic chromosome number for this genus is suggested to be x = 18. Analysis of chromosome number, variations of total chromosome length (TCL) and average chromosome length (ACL), Nombre Fondamental (NF) and karyotype asymmetry suggest that dysploid reduction is the major mechanism in Boronia karyotype evolution. Chromosomal rearrangements might also have been involved. Origin, chromosome number changes and spread of Boronia are discussed in relation to the species divergence and the geological and climatic changes of the Australian continent.  © 2003 The Linnean Society of London, Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society , 2003, 142 , 309–320.  相似文献

Chromosome numbers in plant taxa endemic to the Balearic Islands   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
Mitotic chromosome numbers are reported from 20 vascular plant taxa that are endemic to the Balearic Islands and poorly known cytogenetically. The chromosome numbers of Arenaria grandiflora L. ssp. glabrescens (Willk.) G. López & Nieto Feliner (2 n  = 44), Dianthus rupicola Viv. ssp. bocchoriana L. Llorens & Gradaille (2 n  = 30), Solenopsis minuta (L.) C. Presl. ssp. balearica (E. Wimm.) Meikle (2 n  = 28), Romulea asumptionis Font Quer & Garcías Font (2 n  = 56), Scutellaria balearica Barceló (2 n  = 22) and Galium balearicum Briq. (2 n  = 22) have been determined for the first time. A new chromosome number was found in two populations of Helictotrichon crassifolium (Font Quer) Holub (2 n  =  c. 98) suggesting that this species is a high polyploid (14 x ), in contrast to an earlier report of a lower chromosome count (2 n  = 12 x  = 84). Cytogenetic observations suggest that Naufraga balearica Constance & Cannon has a diploid chromosome complement of 2 n  = 20, with 0–2 accessory chromosomes. The banded karyotype (chromomycin A3) of Crepis triasii (Cambess.) Fries was determined for individuals belonging to eight populations from three islands. Two chromomycin A3-positive regions were recorded in the diploid complement. These are present on the telomeric regions of the shortest subtelocentric chromosomes. This species is karyologically stable in chromosome number, karyotype and fluorochrome-banding pattern among populations from separate islands.  © 2005 The Linnean Society of London, Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society , 2005, 148 , 219–228.  相似文献

Chromosome numbers in 48 populations belonging to 31 species of Vernonia from South America have been determined. First chromosome counts are reported for V. propinqua var. canescens (2 n = 20), V. sceptrum (2 n = 80), V. rufogrisea (2 n = 32), V. heringeri (2 n = 32), V. hovaefolia (2 n = 64), V. hystricosa (2 n = 128), V. obtusata (2 n = 64), V. pseudoincana (2 n = 32), V. rubricaulis var.◊ australis (2 n = 64) and V. rugulosa (2 n = 30). The basic chromosome numbers x = 10, 14, 15, 16 and 17 were confirmed for New World species of Vernonia . Together with previous records, these numbers suggest that the evolution of Vernonieae has occurred through a combination of polyploidy and aneuploidy. Taxonomic implications of certain counts are also discussed.  © 2002 The Linnean Society of London, Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society , 2002, 139 , 401–408.  相似文献

A cytotaxonomic study was made of 10 fern species belonging to 7 genera of Polypodiaceae from Yunnan, China. Seven new records (including one cytotype) were reported in this paper. The putative reproduc-tive manners were inferred from cytological characters and spore counting. The chromosome numbers were 2n=70 in Polypodiastrum mengtzeense, Lepisorus bicolor; 2n=72 in Polypodiode amoena, P. wattii, L. mac-rosphaerus, Lepidogrammitis rostrata, Drymotaenium miyoshianum, Tricholepidium maculosum, Phymatopteris oxyloba; and 2n=108 in P. trisecta. The reproductive type in P. trisecta is triploid apogamous while it is of the sexual diploid reproductive type in the other species of the genus Phymatopteris. Based on our study and previous data, the significance of chromosome number in phylogenetic study was discussed.  相似文献

Chromosome numbers were counted for 23 species of Crotalaria native to Brazil. Among these data there were new counts for 15 taxa, and some confirmed previous reports or represented numbers that were different from those cited previously. The chromosome numbers most frequently found were 2 n  = 16 and 2 n  = 32. Only C. incana L. had 2 n  = 14 and C. tweediana Benth. had 2 n  = 54. The counts 2 n  = 32 and 54 were found in species of section Calycinae and 2 n  = 16 and 14 in species of section Chrysocalycinae . The data revealed the importance of chromosomal parameters in the characterization of sections Calycinae and Chrysocalycinae in Brazil. We discuss the systematic significance and evolutionary aspects for the genus, comparing the results with the two sections that are native in Brazil.  © 2006 The Linnean Society of London, Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society , 2006, 151 , 271–277.  相似文献

A karyotypic study was performed on 19 Echinops species in Fars Province, Iran. The taxa revealed chromosome counts of 2 n = 28, 30, 32 and 34. Somatic chromosome numbers of 18 species are reported for the first time. Using somatic chromosome number as a criterion for section delimitation, the transfer of E. gedrosiacus, E. cyanocephalm and E. sojakii from Sect. Oligolepis to Sect. Ritropsis is suggested. Differences in basic chromosome numbers point towards the possible role played by centric fusion/fission in the karyotypic evolution of the genus. The Karl Pearson coefficient of correlation and principal components analysis indicated the occurrence of structural changes in chromosomes. The species occupied classes 1A, 2A & 2B of Stebbins' karyotype classification, indicating the presence of a primitive symmetrical karyotype in the genus.  相似文献

East African material of the genus Hypoxis L. has preliminarily been divided into the heterogenous, probably apomictic H. obtusa Burch- complex (2n = 40–50, ca. 75, 76, ca. 85, >86, ca. 92, ca. 98, ca. 108, 130–135, 160–200) and 5 rather homogenous species: H. angustifolia Lam. (2n = 14, 28), H. goetzei Harms (2n = ca. 62), H. kilimanjarica Bak., H. malosana Bak. (2n = 14) and H. macrocarpa Holt & Staubo sp. nov. H. kilimanjarica is divided into ssp. kilimanjarica and ssp. prostrata Holt & Staubo ssp. nov.  相似文献

Chromosome numbers are presented for the first time for 30 accessions of nine south-eastern South American Lupinus species. Chromosome numbers of 2 n = 32 and 34 were found for L. bracteolaris (three out of five accessions with 2 n = 32) and L. linearis (two out of three accessions with 2 n = 32), and of 2 n = 36 for L. gibertianus , L. lanatus, L. magnistipulatus , L. multiflorus , L. rubriflorus , L. reitzii and L. uleanus . All the South American species examined have relatively low chromosome numbers when compared with most of the Old World and North American species. Our results, where 2 n = 36 is the rule, are in sharp contrast to the data for North American Lupinus species and reveal the following: (1) low chromosome numbers are the rule, at least in the southern part of eastern South America; (2) cytologically, the eastern South American species form a group distinct from the North American taxa; (3) high levels of polyploidy have not played as important a role in evolution and speciation in eastern South America as in North America; (4) the predominance of low chromosome numbers in eastern South American species and the existence of similar numbers in two of the six rough-seeded Old World species support the hypothesis that in the evolution of the genus the eastern South American species branched off first, followed by the rough-seeded group.  © 2002 The Linnean Society of London, Botanical Journal of the Linnean Socety , 2002, 139 , 395–400.  相似文献

Mitotic chromosomes of eight populations of six species of Vernonia sensu Baker (Asteraceae, Vernonieae, section Lepidaploa , group Axilliflorae ) were studied to assess the validity of maintaining the genus as proposed currently ( sensu Baker) or of splitting it into several smaller genera ( sensu Robinson). The species were collected in areas of 'cerrado' and 'campo rupestre' in southern and central-western Brazil. The chromosome numbers were 2 n  = 20–40 and karyotypic analysis showed a predominance of metacentric chromosomes, with some submetacentrics. B chromosomes were seen in one population of V. geminata . The chromosomes varied in length from 0.9 to 4.6 µm, with a total chromatin length of 29.7–45.0 µm and a symmetry index of 41.2–46.9%. The intrachromosomal asymmetry index varied from 0.13 to 0.29, and the interchromosomal asymmetry index varied from 0.15 to 0.21. The dispersion diagram showed that population 1 of V. geminata had the most asymmetrical karyotype. These results do not provide sufficient evidence for a conclusive cytotaxonomic discussion of Vernonia , mainly because of the impossibility of associating any infrageneric group with specific karyotypic characters, and also because of the small number of species analysed so far.  © 2007 The Linnean Society of London. The chromosome numbers of seven species ofPelargonium sect.Eumorpha have been determined from material of known wild origin, and karyotypic comparisons have been made. Within the section there is variation in basic chromosome number (x = 4, 8, 9, 11), variation in chromosome size, and two species have polyploid races. The three species with chromosome numbers based on x = 11 have the smallest chromosomes (1.0–1.5 µm); chromosomes are larger (1.0–3.0 µm) in the other species.P. elongatum has the lowest chromosome number in the genus (2n = 8).P. alchemilloides is exceptional in that it has four cytotypes, 2n = 16, 18, 34 and 36, and the form with 2n = 36 has large chromosomes (2.0–5.0 µm). Evidence from a synthesized hybrid suggests thatP. alchemilloides with 2n = 16 may be of polyploid origin. The three species based on x = 11 appear to be more closely related to species from other sections ofPelargonium that have the same basic chromosome number and small chromosome size, rather than to other species of sect.Eumorpha.  相似文献

Nineteen populations of fifteen species ofGentiana sect.Chondrophyllae from China were observed cytologically.Gentiana alsinoides, G. anisostemon, G. asterocalyx, G. exigua, G. heterostemon, G. intricata, G. praticola, G. pseudoaquatica, G. spathulifolia, andG. subintricata all had the same chromosome number of 2n = 20 (or n = 10), whereasG. piasezkii had 2n = 36,G. squarrosa 2n = 38,G. prattii 2n = 18,G. aristata 2n = 14 (n = 7), andG. heleonastes 2n = 12. All these chromosome numbers are documented here for the first time, except forG. squarrosa, where it is a new number report. The basic numbers of x = 6, x = 7 and x = 19 are new for the section. Karyotype analyses of some species revealed that, except for a few cases, the species examined mainly had metacentric chromosomes. 2n = 20 = 2m(SAT) + 18m was found to be the main type of karyotype for the species with 2n = 20. Chromosomal evolution and its mechanism in this section are also discussed.  相似文献

Investigation of chromosome numbers of allAzolla species, and for the first time of hybrids, has been undertaken. Removal of wax from the leaf surface proved invaluable in achieving clear cytological preparations and providing unambiguous chromosome numbers. In contrast to previous records, the speciesA. pinnata, A. filiculoides, A. filiculoides var.rubra, A. caroliniana, A. microphylla, andA. mexicana were found to be 2n=44, andA. nilotica to be 2n=52. Several triploids (2n=66) and one tetraploid (2n=88) were identified. No geographical pattern could be observed in the distribution of triploids which probably derive from the function of unreduced gametes. The chromosome number of hybrids occasionally deviates from the diploid chromosome number (2n=44). The small chromosome size limits karyotypic analysis and only differences in overall chromosome size can be observed. Taxonomic implications of chromosome numbers and sizes are discussed.  相似文献
