Electromyography (EMG) signals can be used for clinical/biomedical applications, Evolvable Hardware Chip (EHW) development, and modern human computer interaction. EMG signals acquired from muscles require advanced methods for detection, decomposition, processing, and classification. The purpose of this paper is to illustrate the various methodologies and algorithms for EMG signal analysis to provide efficient and effective ways of understanding the signal and its nature. We further point up some of the hardware implementations using EMG focusing on applications related to prosthetic hand control, grasp recognition, and human computer interaction. A comparison study is also given to show performance of various EMG signal analysis methods. This paper provides researchers a good understanding of EMG signal and its analysis procedures. This knowledge will help them develop more powerful, flexible, and efficient applications.  相似文献

脑卒中患者康复治疗中会引起下肢肌肉痉挛,这种现象给患者的康复训练过程带来极大的危害,因此能够在训练过程中识别痉挛并及时中断训练具有重要的实际意义。本研究通对下肢表面肌电信号的采集,采用基于形状的模版匹配法来识别痉挛信号,并以皮尔逊相关系数来分析表征下肢痉挛信号的相关性大小。分析结果表明,通过仿真验证了模版匹配法在个人痉挛信号识别中的准确性,显示了在泛用痉挛信号识别中的可行性。  相似文献

This study was performed to evaluate the relative significance of changes typical for muscle fatigue on quantitative parameters obtained from turns analysis of simulated intramuscular and surface interference electromyographic (EMG) signals. Effects of reduction of firing rate of motor units (MUs) and changes of intracellular action potential (IAP) profile along active fibers were analyzed. A new analytic function was proposed to simulate changes in IAP shape at different stages of muscle fatigue. In intramuscular EMG, both the decrease in firing rate of MUs and the changes in IAP profile led to reduction in the number of turns per second (NTs) and mean turn amplitude (MTA). The development of fatigue and especially the changes in IAP profile could explain why NTs increased up to only about 50% of maximal voluntary contraction, and remained unchanged above that level of efforts or even decreased. These effects should be especially pronounced in patients with myopathy whose IAP and muscle fatigability are expected to be abnormal. In surface EMG, the MTA increased considerably with fatigue; the sensitivity of NTs to reduction in firing rate (or number of discharges) was low. Thus, the benefits of the turns analysis of surface EMG signals should be lower not only in diagnosis of myopathy but also neuropathy.  相似文献

The surface EMG signal detected from voluntarily activated muscles can be used as a control signal for functional neuromuscular electrical stimulation. A proper positioning of the recording electrodes in relation to the stimulation electrodes, and a proper processing of the recorded signals is required to reduce the stimulus artefact and the non-voluntary contribution (M-wave). Six orientations and six locations of the recording electrodes were investigated in the present work. A comb filter (with and without a blanking windowing) was applied to remove the signal components synchronously correlated to the stimulus. An operative definition of the signal to noise ratio and an efficiency index were implemented. It resulted that when the recording electrodes were located within the two stimulation electrodes the best orientation was perpendicular to the longitudinal line. However the best absolute indexes were obtained when the recording electrodes were located externally of the stimulation electrodes, and in that case the best orientation was longitudinal. Concerning the filtering procedure, the use of a blanking window before the application of the comb filter, gave the best performance.  相似文献

Restriction endonucleases have become a fundamental tool of molecular biology with many commercial vendors and extensive product lines. While a significant amount has been learned about restriction enzyme diversity, genomic organization, and mechanism, these continue to be active areas of research and assist in classification efforts. More recently, one focus has been their exquisite specificity for the proper recognition sequence and the lack of homology among enzymes recognizing the same DNA sequence. Some questions also remain regarding in vivo function. Site-directed mutagenesis and fusion proteins based on known endonucleases show promise for custom-designed cleavage. An understanding of the enzymes and their properties can improve their productive application by maintaining critical digest parameters and enhancing or avoiding alternative activities.  相似文献

We extend the neural concepts of topological feature maps towards self-organization of auto-associative memory and hierarchical pattern classification. As is well-known, topological maps for statistical data sets store information on the associated probability densities. To extract that information we introduce a recurrent dynamics of signal processing. We show that the dynamics converts a topological map into an auto-associative memory for real-valued feature vectors which is capable to perform a cluster analysis. The neural network scheme thus developed represents a generalization of non-linear matrix-type associative memories. The results naturally lead to the concept of a feature atlas and an associated scheme of self-organized, hierarchical pattern classification.  相似文献

The fact that membrane proteins are notoriously difficult to analyse using standard protocols for atomic-resolution structure determination methods have motivated adaptation of these techniques to membrane protein studies as well as development of new technologies. With this motivation, liquid-state nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) has recently been used with success for studies of peptides and membrane proteins in detergent micelles, and solid-state NMR has undergone a tremendous evolution towards characterization of membrane proteins in native membrane and oriented phospholipid bilayers. In this mini-review, we describe some of the technological challenges behind these efforts and provide examples on their use in membrane biology.  相似文献

Motivated by the analysis of complex dependent functional data such as event-related brain potentials (ERP), this paper considers a time-varying coefficient multivariate regression model with fixed-time covariates for testing global hypotheses about population mean curves. Based on a reduced-rank modeling of the time correlation of the stochastic process of pointwise test statistics, a functional generalized F-test is proposed and its asymptotic null distribution is derived. Our analytical results show that the proposed test is more powerful than functional analysis of variance testing methods and competing signal detection procedures for dependent data. Simulation studies confirm such power gain for data with patterns of dependence similar to those observed in ERPs. The new testing procedure is illustrated with an analysis of the ERP data from a study of neural correlates of impulse control.  相似文献

Leukotrienes (LTs) are potent pro-inflammatory mediators derived from arachidonic acid by the action of 5-lipoxygenase. There are two groups of LTs: LTB(4) and cysteinyl LTs (LTC(4), LTD(4), and LTE(4)). Both of them play important roles in many inflammatory diseases and allergic responses. Recently, their G-protein coupled receptors have been cloned. The identification of these receptors enables us to analyze their gene structures, regulation of expression, and signal transduction in the cells, and it also leads to the development of useful antagonists. Some LT receptors have been disrupted by gene targeting. Such studies may reveal novel functions of leukotrienes, confirming deeper viewpoints for further research.  相似文献

This paper focuses on methodological issues related to surface electromyographic (EMG) signal detection from the low back muscles. In particular, we analysed (1) the characteristics (in terms of propagating components) of the signals detected from these muscles; (2) the effect of electrode location on the variables extracted from surface EMG; (3) the effect of the inter-electrode distance (IED) on the same variables; (4) the possibility of assessing fatigue during high and very low force level contractions. To address these issues, we detected single differential surface EMG signals by arrays of eight electrodes from six locations on the two sides of the spine, at the levels of the first (L1), the second (L2), and the fifth (L5) lumbar vertebra. In total, 42 surface EMG channels were acquired at the same time during both high and low force, short and long duration contractions. The main results were: (1) signal quality is poor with predominance of non-travelling components; (2) as a consequence of point (1), in the majority of the cases it is not possible to reliably estimate muscle fiber conduction velocity; (3) despite the poor signal quality, it was possible to distinguish the fatigue properties of the investigated muscles and the fatigability at different contraction levels; (4) IED affects the sensitivity of surface EMG variables to electrode location and large IEDs are suggested when spectral and amplitude analysis is performed; (5) the sensitivity of surface EMG variables to changes in electrode location is on average larger than for other muscles with less complex architecture; (6) IED influences amplitude initial values and slopes, and spectral variable initial values; (7) normalized slopes for both amplitude and spectral variables are not affected by IED and, thus, are suggested for fatigue analysis at different postures or during movement, when IED may change in different conditions (in case of separated electrodes); (8) the surface EMG technique at the global level of amplitude and spectral analysis cannot be used to characterize fatigue properties of low back muscles during very low level, long duration contractions since in these cases the non-stable MU pool has a major influence on the EMG variables. These considerations clarify issues only partially investigated in past studies. The limitations indicated above are important and should be carefully discussed when presenting surface EMG results as a means for low back muscle assessment in clinical practice.  相似文献

This tutorial is aimed primarily to non-engineers, using or planning to use surface electromyography (sEMG) as an assessment tool for muscle evaluation in the prevention, monitoring, assessment and rehabilitation fields. The main purpose is to explain basic concepts related to: (a) signal detection (electrodes, electrode–skin interface, noise, ECG and power line interference), (b) basic signal properties, such as amplitude and bandwidth, (c) parameters of the front-end amplifier (input impedance, noise, CMRR, bandwidth, etc.), (d) techniques for interference and artifact reduction, (e) signal filtering, (f) sampling and (g) A/D conversion, These concepts are addressed and discussed, with examples.The second purpose is to outline best practices and provide general guidelines for proper signal detection, conditioning and A/D conversion, aimed to clinical operators and biomedical engineers. Issues related to the sEMG origin and to electrode size, interelectrode distance and location, have been discussed in a previous tutorial. Issues related to signal processing for information extraction will be discussed in a subsequent tutorial.  相似文献

This review provides an overview of oxidases that utilise a flavin cofactor for catalysis. This class of oxidative flavoenzymes has shown to harbour a large number of biotechnologically interesting enzymes. Applications range from their use as biocatalysts for the synthesis of pharmaceutical compounds to the integration in biosensors. Through the recent developments in genome sequencing, the number of newly discovered oxidases is steadily growing. Recent progress in the field of flavoprotein oxidase discovery and the obtained biochemical knowledge on these enzymes are reviewed. Except for a structure-based classification of known flavoprotein oxidases, also their potential in recent biotechnological applications is discussed.  相似文献
