Dimeric guaianolides from Artemisia sieversiana

The aerial parts of Artemisia sieversiana afforded in addition to known compounds five new guaianolides and four dimeric guaianolides, three of them closely related to absinthin and one derived from estafiatin as a monomer. The structures were elucidated by extensive NMR studies, which allowed the assignment of the 14 chiral centres. Artemisia frigida afforded several known compounds and one new guaianolide, 8-desoxy-cumambrin B, the most likely precursor of many guaianolides.     

Pseudoguaianolides carabrone derivatives from Loxothysanus sinuatus

The aerial parts of Loxothysanus sinuatus afforded in addition to known compounds nine new pseudoguaianolides, three guaianolides and five carabrone derivatives. The structures were elucidated by spectroscopic methods. The chemotaxonomy is discussed briefly. The configurations of two guaianolides were corrected.     

Guaianolides from Calea subcordata

Chemical analysis of Calea subcordata yielded three new guaianolides, 8-epi-isobutyrylrupicolin A, 8-epi-isobutyrylrupicolin B and subcordatolide A, which represent the first guaianolide-type sesquiterpene lactones reported in the genus Calea. The structures of the new compounds were established by chemical and spectroscopic methods.     

Neue elemanolide und guajanolide aus Zinnia-arten

The investigation of three Zinnia species afforded thirteen new elemanolides. Though these compounds could be separated only in part, the spectroscopic data clearly indicate the proposed structures. Furthermore, four new guaianolides were isolated. The chemotaxonomic situation is discussed briefly.     

Guaianolides related to arborescin from Artemisia adamsii

The aerial parts of Artemisia adamsii afforded, among several known compounds, arborescin as the main constituent. Furthermore, 11 new guaianolides, all related to arborescin, were present in minute quantities. The structures were elucidated by spectroscopic methods and the biogenetic relationships are discussed briefly.     

Neue guajanolide aus Lasthenia-arten

The investigation of two species of Lasthenia afforded two new guaianolides and a new bisabolone derivative, in addition to already known compounds. The presence of an eremophilenic acid in these plants is remarkable. The results are discussed chemotaxonomically, since the tribal position of this genus is still debated.     

Neue Guajanolide aus Podachaenium eminens

The airial parts of Podachaenium eminens contain, besides known compounds, four new guaianolides. The roots afford known acetylenes together with a new euparine-derivative. The structures are elucidated using spectroscopic methods.     

Sesquiterpene lactones of eupatorium anomalum and eupatorium mohrii

Several new guaianolides and the previously known heliangolide eurecurvin have been isolated from Eupatorium anomalum. Eupatorium mohrii also yielded three of the new guaianolides together with eurecurvin and a new germacradienolide. The implications of these findings are discussed.     

Guaianolides and homoditerpenes from Lasiolaena morii

Highly oxygenated guaianolides from Bishopanthus soliceps

In addition to known compounds several highly oxygenated guaianolides and eudesmanolides, derived from 1β-hydroxyarbusculin A, were isolated from the aerial parts of Bishopanthus soliceps, a member of a new genus of the tribe Liabeae.     

Two guaianolides from calea solidaginea

The isolation and structure elucidation of two new guaianolides, solidaginolides A(1) and B(5), from Calea solidaginea are reported. The structures of the new compounds were established by spectroscopic methods.     

Four guaianolides and other constituents from three kaunia species*

The investigation of three species of the new genus Kaunia afforded four new guaianolides and four thymol derivatives. The structures were elucidated by spectroscopic methods. The chemotaxonomic situation is discussed briefly.     

Guaianolides and chromenes from Calea species

Chemical analysis of Calea berteriana yielded, besides the known flavonoid acacetin and the sesquiterpene lactone calbertolide C, three new guaianolides, desacyl-8-tiglylsubcordatolide A and 8-epi-8-tiglylrupicolins A and B. C. prunifolia provided acacetin, calbertolide C, desacyl-8-tiglylsubcordatolide A, and two new chromenes, prunichromenes A and B. From C. solidaginea acacetin, heliangine, calbertolide C, 8-epi-8-tiglylrupicolin A and desacyl-8-tiglylsubcordatolide A were isolated. The structures of the new compounds were established by chemical and spectral methods.     

Neue sesquiterpenlactone und andere inhaltsstoffe aus vertretern der Eupatorium-gruppe

The investigation of twelve further species of the Eupatorium complex affords four new germacrolides and seven guaianolides together with new thymol and p-hydroxyacetophenone derivatives. The structures of these compounds have been elucidated by spectroscopic methods. Chemotaxonomic aspects of these findings are briefly discussed.     

New sesquiterpene lactones,geranyllinalol derivatives and other constituents from Geigeria species

The investigation of three Geigeria species and five subspecies afforded, in addition to known compounds, the following 32 new compounds: two geigeranolides with a new carbon skeleton, two xanthanolides, five guaianolides, three pseudoguaianolides, a sesquiterpene related to ivaxillarin, a nerolidol derivative, 15 geranyllinalol derivatives, two thiophene acetylenes and a dimeric coniferyl isobutyrate. The structures and the stereochemistry of the new compounds were elucidated by spectroscopic methods and a few chemical transformation. Chemotaxonomic aspect and relationship of the comnounds are discussed.     

Sesquiterpenes,guaianolides and diterpenes from Stevia myriadenia

The investigation of Stevia myriadenia afforded in addition to known compounds a new clerodane and a labdane derivative, two guaianolides, a bisabolene and a germacrene derivative. The structures were elucidated by spectroscopic methods. The chemotaxonomic situation is discussed briefly.     

Neue guaianolide aus Cacosmia rugosa

The roots of C. rugosa afforded, in addition to known compounds, a C₁₇-acetylenic epoxide and five new guaianolides, four of them being hydroperoxides. The structures were elucidated by extensive NMR studies. The aerial parts only contain triterpene mixtures, as those of C. hieronymi. The compounds isolated confirm that Cacosmia is unrelated chemically to true members of the tribe Senecioneae.     

A new type of germacranolide from Vernonia species

From several South African Vernonia species, a considerable number of sesquiterpene lactones has been isolated. Together with known compounds, seven members of a new type with an enol lactone ring have been found, their structures being elucidated by spectroscopic methods and some chemical transformations. Furthermore two new derivatives of costunolide are present in two species, and three new guaianolides have been found. From some species, however, no lactones could be isolated. Together with a new bisabolene derivative, a known eremophilone has been isolated, probably for the first time, from a member of the tribe Vernonieae.     

Six guaianolides from Stylotrichium rotundifolium

The investigation of Stylotrichium rotundifolium afforded the epoxide of β-sesquiphellandrene, a new derivative of geranylnerol and six guaianolides not isolated previously. Furthermore, two germacranolides also present in a Lasiolaena species and several known compounds were isolated. The structures were elucidated by detailed ¹H NMR investigations. The chemotaxonomic situation is discussed briefly.     

Guaianolides from Liatris squarrosa

The isolation of three new guaianolides related to spicatin from Liatris squarrosa is reported.
