Coral reef fish communities were sampled at the Nayband Marine Park, Iran, using baited remote underwater video stations (BRUVSs) which incorporated animal (i.e. frigate tuna Auxis thazard and beef liver), or plant‐based baits (i.e. raw dough and raw dough‐turmeric powder mix). The A. thazard was found to record significantly (P < 0·05) higher species richness and number of carnivorous fishes than plant‐based baits, while abundance of herbivores was maximum in raw dough‐turmeric powder mix trials. There was also a significant difference in trophic composition of fish assemblages surveyed by animal‐ and plant‐based baits which seemed to be due to variations in attraction patterns of carnivores and herbivores occurring at the earlier phases of each BRUV deployments. Meanwhile, the assemblage structure was comparable among fish assemblages sampled by different bait treatments, indicating that species‐level responses to each bait type may be more complicated. In essence, the efficiency of mixed baits should also be examined in future studies.  相似文献

In the present study, a first inventory of benthic macroinvertebrates in the Banco Stream, Côte d'Ivoire, and the correlations between environmental variables and taxonomic richness were analysed. Seven stations were sampled monthly over a 1‐year period, using a hand net (10 × 10 cm, 250 μm mesh, 50 cm length). One hundred and thirty‐two macroinvertebrate taxa were recorded. These taxa were distributed among 74 families and 15 orders belonging to Insecta (118 taxa; 89% of total richness), Oligochaeta (seven taxa), Crustacea (five taxa) and Mollusca (two taxa). Kruskal–Wallis test revealed significant difference (at least P < 0.05) in macroinvertebrate richness between upstream stations (S1 and S2) and stations S4, S5 and S6. Chironominae and Tanypodinae (Insecta) were the two very frequent taxa in all the stations. Lumbriculidae (Oligochaeta), Desmocaris trispinosa (Crustacea) and Eurymetra sp. (Insecta) were frequently found in the samples. Hierarchical cluster analysis revealed three groups of sampling stations according to taxonomic similarity. Taxonomic richness was significantly and negatively correlated with conductivity, while it was significantly and positively correlated with substrate types (woody debris and gravel). Due to the fact that Banco stream is the locality type of an endemic shrimp species (Macrobrachium thysi), this basin is of high conservation priority.  相似文献

Can remote underwater video be used to investigate the in-stream behaviour of small fishes and decapods? Diel activity of two threatened freshwater fishes (Macquaria australasica and Gadopsis bispinosus), a palaemonid prawn and an atyid shrimp, was established from remote underwater video in a pool of an upland stream in the current study. Decapods and large fishes (>5 cm TL) were nocturnal, whereas, small fishes (<5 cm TL) were diurnal. The suitability of using underwater video to quantify short-term (seconds) behavioural interaction among individuals was also demonstrated, with early-juvenile-phase Gadopsis bispinosus exhibiting interference competition on 35% of occasions when two or more individuals were observed. This study demonstrates that remote underwater video is useful for observing the in-stream behaviour of threatened freshwater fauna where other techniques are not viable, and presents sub-sampling of video as a means of reducing video processing time in assessing fish diel activity patterns.  相似文献

We reported the genus Parasphyraenops (Perciformes: Serranidae) in the Brazilian Biogeographic Province. Four Parasphyraenops incisus specimens were identified based in body shape and color pattern through underwater remote video records, on shallow coral reefs in the Bahia state, Brazil. In the video frames P. incisus was observed swimming close to the pomacentrid Chromis multilineata at 14 m depth, being this the shallowest record for this species. The present record expands on 6.500 km the southern limit of distribution of P. incisus in the Western Atlantic.  相似文献

In 2011, the enigma of “mystery circles,” small but complex underwater structures first observed by divers from southern Japan in 1995, was solved when a new species of pufferfish, white-spotted pufferfish (Torquigener albomaculosus Matsuura 2014), was identified as the responsible agent. To date these circles have been described only from Japan, where they are formed on a sandy seafloor in water depths less than 30 m. A survey of oil field infrastructure on the North West Shelf of Western Australia in 2018 using a remotely operated vehicle and hybrid autonomous underwater vehicle (HAUV) recorded a high-resolution video and bathymetric data of 21 circular formations with similar features to those described in Japan. The circles display dimensions and morphology like those described from Japan, but were observed in water depths between 129 and 137 m. The HAUV also recorded high-resolution photographs which captured a Torquigener sp. fish in the immediate vicinity of the circles. An additional circle and Torquigener sp. were observed in images collected by baited remote underwater stereo-video in a nearby location in 129 m depth. These circles are the first to be found in Australia. The pufferfish species responsible cannot be identified from images collected. Such a discovery not only generates intrigue and wonder among scientists and the general public but also provides an insight into the reproductive behaviour and evolution of pufferfish globally.  相似文献

Using remote underwater stereo–video systems we examined fish behaviour towards a stationary SCUBA diver at temperate (Rottnest Island) and sub-tropical (Houtman Abrolhos Islands) reefs in Western Australia. Changes in species richness, relative abundance, fish length, and the mean distance of individual fish from stereo–video cameras, in the presence and absence of a SCUBA diver, were assessed to infer changes in behaviour. Results show that a stationary SCUBA diver may obtain accurate measures of species richness and of the composition of fish assemblages in an area. However, the usefulness of these measures to reflect changes in fish behaviour appears limited as responses of fish towards the stationary SCUBA diver were highly species specific. Several species differed in their mean relative abundance (Heterodontus portusjacksoni, Coris auricularis, Thalassoma lunare), length (Ophthalmolepsis lineolatus, C. auricularis), and the distance to which they would approach the stereo–video systems (Kyphosus sydneyanus, Scarus schlegeli) when a SCUBA diver was present. Here, species-specific changes in the behaviour of several common and abundant fish species towards a stationary SCUBA diver advises caution to avoid biases when interpreting results obtained by SCUBA divers.  相似文献

The forest‐like characteristics of agroforestry systems create a unique opportunity to combine agricultural production with biodiversity conservation in human‐modified tropical landscapes. The cacao‐growing region in southern Bahia, Brazil, encompasses Atlantic forest remnants and large extensions of agroforests, locally known as cabrucas, and harbors several endemic large mammals. Based on the differences between cabrucas and forests, we hypothesized that: (1) non‐native and non‐arboreal mammals are more frequent, whereas exclusively arboreal and hunted mammals are less frequent in cabrucas than forests; (2) the two systems differ in mammal assemblage structure, but not in species richness; and (3) mammal assemblage structure is more variable among cabrucas than forests. We used camera‐traps to sample mammals in nine pairs of cabruca‐forest sites. The high conservation value of agroforests was supported by the presence of species of conservation concern in cabrucas, and similar species richness and composition between forests and cabrucas. Arboreal species were less frequently recorded, however, and a non‐native and a terrestrial species adapted to open environments (Cerdocyon thous) were more frequently recorded in cabrucas. Factors that may overestimate the conservation value of cabrucas are: the high proportion of total forest cover in the study landscape, the impoverishment of large mammal fauna in forest, and uncertainty about the long‐term maintenance of agroforestry systems. Our results highlight the importance of agroforests and forest remnants for providing connectivity in human‐modified tropical forest landscapes, and the importance of controlling hunting and dogs to increase the value of agroforestry mosaics.  相似文献

A baited underwater video (BUV) system for the study of reef-associated fish populations on shallow (10-20 m) rocky habitats in the western Mediterranean was assessed at four locations in Spain and two in France. We describe the apparatus and optimal deployment times for video sampling. Different species had different response times to the bait, with four response groups identified. Examination of species accumulation curves and fish abundance estimates over time revealed that a period of approximately 20 min deployment was sufficient to capture most species on video. The technique sampled a wide variety of species, with 51 species belonging to 33 families recorded. Nine species of fish appeared regularly at the bait in relatively high numbers, and consist of six carnivores (Serranus cabrilla, Serranus scriba, Coris julis, Diplodus annularis, Diplodus vulgaris, Thalassoma pavo), two planktivores (Chromis chromis, Boops boops) and one omnivore (Oblada melanura). However, abundance estimates for other species were generally very low (mean < 1 per location). Comparison of results from BUV with those obtained by Underwater Visual Census (UVC) at the same locations suggests that although BUV estimates species richness reliably, UVC is the more suitable technique for estimating the abundance of shallow-water reef fish in the Mediterranean. BUV improvements are suggested to optimise its use in deeper waters where UVC using scuba is inoperable.  相似文献

Question: Two questions about within‐stand spatial variability are addressed in this paper. How does species richness of tree regeneration respond to small‐scale ecological gradients, and what effect does natural Abies balsamea abundance have on the species richness of other tree regeneration? Location: A long‐term, gap‐silviculture experiment, Acadian mixed‐wood forest, Maine, USA. Methods: Eight stands treated with and without gap harvesting were sampled to capture sub‐stand heterogeneity of understorey tree regeneration concurrently with patterning of local stand conditions. Spatial and non‐spatial models were developed to test the relationships between two response variables [species richness of small (height ≥0.1 m, but <0.75 m) and large (height ≥0.75 m, but <1.4 m) regeneration] and five explanatory variables (depth to water table, percentage canopy transmittance, A. balsamea regeneration density, and overstorey basal area and species richness). Results: Despite high unexplained variance for all models, consistent associations among variables were found. Negative associations were found between: (1) the species richness of small regeneration and A. balsamea regeneration density and (2) the species richness of large regeneration and overstorey basal area. Positive associations were found between: (1) the species richness of small regeneration and both overstorey basal area and species richness and (2) the species richness of small and large regeneration and canopy transmittance. Conclusions: Promoting tree species diversity in Acadian mixed‐wood stands may not be achievable through the use of gap‐harvesting alone if the density of understorey Abies balsamea is not reduced either naturally or through silvicultural intervention.  相似文献

Remote underwater videos are widely employed to assess the structure and composition of reef fish assemblages but the sampling effort employed on each survey differs considerably, indicating that both the number of assessments and video length could be optimized. We searched for this optimal sampling effort in remote video samples to conduct rapid assessments of community composition and discussed the relation between number of replicates and video length, and how it impacts the method's efficiency to characterize species assemblages. Remote video recordings from tropical reefs in northeastern Brazil were used to investigate how fish species richness and composition builds across time and number of assays. Videos as short as 5 min successfully recorded species richness, requiring about five repetitions to record most species that compose 80% of the total biomass. Recording species composition required even less time in these reefs, setting a minimum of 3 min with the same five videos. By comparing the detected richness per analysed time unit, we found several shorter videos recorded for more species than a few longer videos, indicating that increasing the sampling coverage in the reef area might be better than just extending the video length for rapid assessments.  相似文献

A field comparison of baited remote underwater video stations (BRUVS) and prawn (shrimp) trawls was made to assess the sampling options for describing patterns of fish biodiversity in the lagoonal waters of the Great Barrier Reef Marine Park. Replicated comparisons were made during the day and night on trawl grounds with different biophysical characteristics. Each trawl was made close and parallel to a long-shore set of five BRUVS set at regular intervals along one nautical mile. For each species, the sum of the maximum number of fish sighted on BRUVS at any one time (∑MaxN1, …, 5) was compared with the number of fish caught in trawls (N).The two techniques recorded significantly different components of the fish fauna on the trawl grounds. Trawls caught mainly small (≤300 mm), sedentary or cryptic, demersal species—such as flatfishes, apogonids, synodontids, triglids and callionymids. The BRUVS recorded more larger, mobile species from a much wider size range of families, including large elasmobranchs, more fusiform pelagic species (such as carangids and scombrids), and numerous eels. Species accumulation curves were parallel and very similar in shape for both techniques, but were separated by about 11 extra species in trawls. Fifty-two species in 17 families were caught only in trawls and 38 species in 15 families were recorded only by BRUVS. The occurrence of 38 small mobile species in 21 families was common to both techniques, but most of these showed marked differences in relative abundance. Trawls recorded higher species richness at all sites, and at night, but the average number of species and individuals recorded per transect were only about 26% and 19% lower for the BRUVS. The BRUVS consistently recorded more species during the day than trawls, and are limited most by water clarity. Multivariate analyses showed that both techniques indicated the presence of six fish assemblages based on day and night in three locations, despite sampling quite different components of the fauna. The six assemblages accounted for 78.9% of the variation in the BRUVS data compared to 68.9% of the variation in the trawl data, and there was a lower error rate in discriminating the six assemblages in the BRUVS data.BRUVS are non-extractive and can be used on complex topographies and in sensitive habitats in most or all zones of the Marine Park, but models of bait plumes are needed to convert fish sightings to density estimates. They may have a particular role in studies of larger, rarer elasmobranchs and teleosts of special conservation interest. Trawls can be used in any level of water clarity and provide direct estimates of fish density, particularly those smaller teleosts most vulnerable to the effects of trawling. The complementary use of prawn trawls and BRUVS would enable a more comprehensive assessment of teleost and elasmobranch diversity in the variety of inter-reef seabed topographies and management zones comprising the Marine Park.  相似文献

During serological surveillance of peste des petits ruminants (PPR) disease, it required capture of randomly selected herds of gazelles as part of a study to determine the epidemiological role of these species in the circulation of peste des petits ruminants virus (PPRV). The study targeted capturing 135 Grant's gazelles (Gazella granti) from the Serengeti ecosystem, Tanzania. A modified netting technique was used aiming at providing safe, efficient and cost‐effective method for capture of gazelles. Locally available materials were used, and wildlife professionals guided the process of manufacturing supporting frame for the nets. Twenty (20) black metal pipes, 20 metal bars, four nets and three vehicles were used in the procedure. A total of 136 Grant's gazelles and nine Thomson's gazelles were captured in three missions. The Grant's gazelles were captured as per sample size calculated in all locations: Loliondo (n = 25), Serengeti National Park (n = 44) and Ngorongoro Conservation Area (NCA) (n = 67) using less time and minimum cost than estimated. Injuries of three fawns (2%) inadvertently captured with the groups of adults and sub‐adult animals were recorded. Comparing with 2014 and other studies, modified netting technique showed high animal and operator safety levels with minimal injuries. With this technique, it was possible to capture even flighty animals that behave nervously because of hunting and other human activities, including Thomson's gazelles, a species previously found to be difficult to capture by netting.  相似文献

Aim To document the elevational pattern of epiphyte species richness at the local scale in the tropical Andes with a consistent methodology. Location The northern Bolivian Andes at 350–4000 m above sea level. Methods We surveyed epiphytic vascular plant assemblages in humid forests in (a) single trees located in (b) 90 subplots of 400 m2 each located in (c) 14 plots of 1 ha each. The plots were separated by 100–800 m along the elevational gradient. Results We recorded about 800 epiphyte species in total, with up to 83 species found on a single tree. Species richness peaked at c. 1500 m and declined by c. 65% to 350 m and by c. 99% to 4000 m, while forests on mountain ridges had richness values lowered by c. 30% relative to slope forests at the same elevations. The hump‐shaped richness pattern differed from a null‐model of random species distribution within a bounded domain (the mid‐domain effect) as well as from the pattern of mean annual precipitation by a shift of the diversity peak to lower elevations and by a more pronounced decline of species richness at higher elevations. With the exception of Araceae, which declined almost monotonically, all epiphyte taxa showed hump‐shaped curves, albeit with slightly differing shapes. Orchids and pteridophytes were the most species‐rich epiphytic taxa, but their relative contributions shifted with elevation from a predominance of orchids at low elevations to purely fern‐dominated epiphyte assemblages at 4000 m. Within the pteridophytes, the polygrammoid clade was conspicuously overrepresented in dry or cold environments. Orchids, various small groups (Cyclanthaceae, Ericaceae, Melastomataceae, etc.), and Bromeliaceae (below 1000 m) were mostly restricted to the forest canopy, while Araceae and Pteridophyta were well represented in the forest understorey. Main conclusions Our study confirms the hump‐shaped elevational pattern of vascular epiphyte richness, but the causes of this are still poorly understood. We hypothesize that the decline of richness at high elevations is a result of low temperatures, but the mechanism involved is unknown. The taxon‐specific patterns suggest that some taxa have a phylogenetically determined propensity for survival under extreme conditions (low temperatures, low humidity, and low light levels in the forest interior). The three spatial sampling scales show some different patterns, highlighting the influence of the sampling methodology.  相似文献

A study on plant features and motile fauna was carried out within a Posidonia oceanica (L.) Delile bed in Cap Zebib (north‐eastern Tunisian coastline). Fauna was sampled in two stations located at 3 and 12 m depth. A total of 154 species represented by 5592 individuals were collected. Taxa with the highest number of species included Crustacea (22), Mollusca (47) and Polychaeta (46). Among Crustacea, Leptocheirus pilosus, Elasmopus rapax and Lysianassa longicornis were recorded for the first time in Tunisian P. oceanica meadows. The species richness was found to be generally higher at the shallow station. Multivariate analyses showed a pronounced temporal variation in collected populations’ structure. Moreover, the distribution of some groups, in particular molluscs and crustaceans, appeared to be mainly influenced by ‘depth’ factor showing a clear zonation pattern for some species. It was also showed with Spearman test that the faunal features of the two latter taxa (molluscs and crustaceans) are related with the shoot density and Leaf Area Index. However, no correlation was found between the plant parameters and polychaetes community characteristics. In addition, environmental factors, i.e. temperature and dissolved oxygen were found to be correlated with species richness and Shannon–Wiener diversity for each zoological group.  相似文献

Two exotic invasive macrophyte species (the emergent Urochloa subquadripara - tenner-grass - and the submersed Hydrilla verticillata - hydrilla) were investigated in a large sub-tropical reservoir. We analyzed their occurrences over an extended period and tested the hypothesis that macrophyte richness decreases their invasibility. The alternative hypothesis that the occurrence of these exotics is affected by fetch and underwater radiation (important determinants of macrophyte assemblage composition in this reservoir) was also tested. Incidence data (presence/absence) was obtained over 9.5 years at 235 stations. Logistic regression was applied to test whether the likelihood of occurrence of these two species was affected by macrophyte richness, fetch or underwater radiation. Tenner-grass was recorded at a high frequency and quickly recovered from disturbances caused by water drawdown. In contrast, H. verticillata was first recorded in 3 sites in January 2007, but it spread quickly, reaching 30.5% of the sites 19 months later. The main channel of the Paraná River was the main source of propagules for this species. The likelihood of occurrence of tenner-grass was positively affected by macrophyte richness but negatively affected by fetch. Thus, wave disturbance is probably more important than diversity in preventing invasion by this species. Hydrilla, by contrast, was negatively affected by macrophyte richness and positively affected by fetch and underwater radiation. Although this result might indicate that macrophyte diversity prevents hydrilla invasion, this is probably not true because hydrilla colonized deeper sites where few species of plant exist. Resistance to disturbances caused by water drawdown (tenner-grass) and waves (hydrilla) as well as persistency of tenner-grass and fast spread of hydrilla make these exotic species a cause for concern because of their potential impacts on water uses and maintenance of diversity.  相似文献

In this study, we test for the key bioclimatic variables that significantly explain the current distribution of plant species richness in a southern African ecosystem as a preamble to predicting plant species richness under a changed climate. We used 54,000 records of georeferenced plant species data to calculate species richness and spatially interpolated climate data to derive nineteen bioclimatic variables. Next, we determined the key bioclimatic variables explaining variation in species richness across Zimbabwe using regression analysis. Our results show that two bioclimatic variables, that is, precipitation of the warmest quarter (R2 = 0.92, P < 0.001) and temperature of the warmest month (R2 = 0.67, P < 0.001) significantly explain variation in plant species richness. In addition, results of bioclimatic modelling using future climate change projections show a reduction in the current bio‐climatically suitable area that supports high plant species richness. However, in high‐altitude areas, plant richness is less sensitive to climate change while low‐altitude areas show high sensitivity. Our results have important implications to biodiversity conservation in areas sensitive to climate change; for example, high‐altitude areas are likely to continue being biodiversity hotspots, as such future conservation efforts should be concentrated in these areas.  相似文献

Diversity and distribution of trees [≥5 cm diameter at breast height (dbh)], shrubs and herbs was assessed in thirty 0.05‐ha (10 × 50 m) plots of a tropical high forest in the Ssese islands of Lake Victoria, central Uganda. The aim was to determine the floristic richness and composition of the forests. We recorded 179 species belonging to 70 families and 146 genera. Of these, nine families had five species or more. Rubiaceae was the richest with fourteen species followed by Euphorbiaceae (thirteen), Apocynaceae (ten) and Moraceae (nine). The majority of the families (35) were represented by one species each. Fifty‐eight herbaceous species, 39 lianas, ten shrubs and 72 species of trees were recorded. The commonest species recorded in the forest included: Uapaca guineensis Mull. Arg., Tabernaemontana pachysiphon Stapf., and Aframomum luteoalbum (K Schum.) K. Schum. Among the rare species encountered were Ficus densistipulata De Willd., Englerophytum oblanceolatum (S. Moore) Pennington, and Afromomum zambeziacum (Bak.) K. Schum. The present study has shown that the Ssese islands are floristically rich in species and compare well with other mainland forests. Species richness, rarity and uniqueness of habitats can be considered as approaches in the prioritization of conservation sites within the fragmented forests of Ssese islands.  相似文献

Artificial coastal reefs were initially installed off Reunion Island (SW Indian Ocean) in order to attract and catch small pelagic fish of economic importance for the local fishery. These artificial reefs also attract a high density of juvenile coral reef fish, especially after recruitment. Because of high species richness and density, a suitable method of evaluating diversity and abundance in such assemblages is needed. An experiment was conducted in situ for 1 year in order to test which of the two visual techniques, slate or video recording, would be the most suitable for sampling artificial reefs. For the quantitative study, a rope framework (four belt transects each measuring 24×3 m) was used to ease the movement of the divers. To avoid bias due to time variations, the study was conducted under limited time in situ. The advantages and disadvantages of the two techniques regarding the accuracy of qualitative and quantitative results are discussed. The qualitative study results show that the slate technique is the most accurate one for determining species richness. In the quantitative study, factors such as species characteristics (ecological type), attractiveness (relationship between fish and diver) and abundance of fish communities around the artificial reefs appear to influence our results on the comparison of the two techniques. Of 13 ‘permanent’ (observed in more than 75% of dives) species, 6 returned a similar frequency of detection by slate and video (Lutjanus kasmira, Lutjanus bengalensis, Priacanthus hamrur, Chaetodon kleinii, Heniochus diphreutes, Mulloides vanicolensis); these were then selected for comparison of the techniques using quantitative data. The correlation between video and slate census results is high, but, in comparison with the slate census, the video census underestimates abundance, especially for low values. A corrected index is proposed to remedy this underestimation; it could be used for video surveys conducted on species responding well to video detection (as below).  相似文献

Diversity, distribution and biomass patterns of polychaetes were studied in the shallow soft bottoms off Terra Nova Bay (Ross Sea, Antarctica). Benthic samples, collected in the austral summer 1989–1990, were sampled using a Van Veen grab at 14 stations distributed between 23- and 194-m depth. A total of 5,768 individuals of polychaetes belonging to 77 species were found. The species richness recorded was high, despite the few biotopes investigated at Terra Nova Bay in this study, especially when compared to that recorded from previous investigations in the same area and from the whole Ross Sea (146 species). Despite the high number of species found, only a few species accounted for 76% of the total abundance: Tharyx cincinnatus (27%), Spiophanes tcherniai (23%), Leitoscoloplos mawsoni (18%) and Laonice weddellia (5%) were mainly distributed in the deeper stations (below 100-m depth), while Aglaophamus ornatus (3%) was the only species abundant in the shallowest stations (above 50-m depth), characterized by gravels and coarse sands. Species richness, diversity and evenness showed an increase with depth. Abundances ranged between 40 to over 12,000 ind/m2. Biomass values ranged between 0.9 to 176 g/m2 (wet weight). A trophic-guild classification revealed the occurrence of various feeding categories that were, however, numerically dominated by deposit feeders with both discretely motile epiand endobenthic forms, and sessile ones. Both the Bray-Curtis similarity and Correspondence (C.A.) analyses showed stations ordered according to depth and to the local dominance of some species. Both poorly and well-structured polychaete assemblages occurred and they seemed related to depth-related factors, such as degree of environmental disturbance (shallowest bottoms vs deep ones), heterogeneity of the substrate and habitat complexity (gravel and coarse sands vs mixed sediment. The richest and most diverse assemblages of polychaetes were those occurring below 140-m depth, where the substrate was dominated by medium sands, often mixed with a mosaic of rocks and boulders. A hoverfly (Syrphidae) community was investigated in a cultivated wheat field and the adjacent hedgerow near Debrecen (Hungary). We monitored the change of species richness and abundance of hoverflies along three transects in the hedgerow and in the wheat field in different distances (10 m, 20 m) from the hedgerow. The effect of sampling methods on the number of hoverfly species and individuals was analyzed. Two sampling methods were used to catch hoverflies: netting and pan traps. The whole sampling period was divided into three subperiods, which are early (22nd April–2nd June), middle (11th June–1st August) and late (6th August–11th September). Altogether 1,214 individuals of 22 species were sampled. Fourteen species with 78% of individuals belonged to the aphidophagous group, feeding on aphids as larvae. Altogether 861 individuals of 22 hoverfly species were sampled by netting and 353 individuals of 10 species by pan traps. The total number of hoverfly species was significant lower in the late period than in the early. The total abundance was higher in the middle period compared to the early. The species richness and abundance of aphidophagous species followed a similar pattern as the total species values. The species richness and abundance of hoverflies were significant higher in 10 m and 20 m distance in the wheat field than along the hedgerow. The results suggest that the pan traps were less efficient in the hedgerow than the netting, but in the wheat field they sampled more hoverflies because of visually alluring effect on hoverflies in the absence of flowers.  相似文献
