A FLOWERING LOCUS T ortholog (WjFT) was identified in Wasabia japonica. Heterologous expression of WjFT remarkably promoted the flowering of Arabidopsis. The expression of WjFT was examined in field-grown wasabi in October and November of 2009, and February of 2010 because the differentiation of flower buds occurs in autumn in field-grown wasabi. No expression of WjFT was detected in October, it was slightly increased in November, and highly increased in February. WjFT might be useful for examining the flowering response of wasabi.  相似文献

Wasabi (Wasabia japonica) is a commercially important crop in Japan. We isolated a FLC ortholog from wasabi and named as WjFLC. Predicted amino acid sequence encoded by WjFLC showed 89% identity with FLC of arabidopsis and conserved the MADS box motif. WjFLC was expressed in young and mature leaves, apical region of lateral bud, rhizome, and root. The expression of WjFLC was high in October and reduced in November when flower buds are formed in wasabi. WjFLC may be useful in monitoring the flowering response in wasabi.  相似文献

To evaluate overwintering strategies of the fungus Neozygites floridana, an important natural enemy of Tetranychus urticae, hibernating T. urticae females were investigated for the presence of fungal structures throughout one winter (October 12, 2006 to February 19, 2007) in field-grown strawberries in a cold climate in Norway (min. ambient temp -15.3 degrees C). Neozygites floridana was present as hyphal bodies inside live, hibernating females in T. urticae populations throughout the sampling period. The lowest percentages of hibernating females with hyphal bodies were found at the two first dates of sampling at 5.5 and 0% on October 12 and 19, respectively. The prevalence then increased and peaked at 54.4% on January 14. Resting spores (immature) were also found in live hibernating females at some dates, but at lower prevalence than for hyphal bodies and predominantly only until November 8. Prevalence of resting spores in live hibernating females ranged from 2.5 to 13.8%. Total number of T. urticae was also recorded, and most mites of all four categories (nymphs, males, non-hibernating and hibernating females) were found at the first sampling date. At this date non-hibernating females were the most abundant. A sharp decrease in non-hibernating females, nymphs and males was, however, seen from mid-October to mid-November; also numbers of hibernating females decreased, but not as fast. The relative abundance of hibernating females compared to non-hibernating females increased from 32.2% at the first collection (October 12) to 97.7% at the last collection (February 2). This study confirms that N. floridana survives the winter as a semi-latent hyphal body infection, protected inside live hibernating females. It is therefore ready to develop and sporulate as soon as climatic conditions permit, resulting in early season infection of T. urticae.  相似文献

于2005年11月至2006年10月,用硫酸-蒽酮比色法和比重法测定了中华蟾蜍各月份的肝糖原和肌糖原含量及肝比重。结果显示:冬眠期间(11月至次年的2月),糖原含量逐月下降;2月份时出现临时回升,然后继续下降;4月份时肝糖原含量最低;5月份起,肝糖原含量逐渐上升;5月份时肌糖原含量为最低;6月份起,肌糖原含量逐渐上升。虽然在7-8月间出现过下降,两种糖原的含量在10月份时达到一年中的最高值。这些结果表明,蟾蜍糖原含量在一年中呈现显著的季节性波动。越冬前所储备糖原的一部分可能用于越冬期间维持高水平的血糖,一部分用于基础代谢。2月份时糖原含量的临时上升,可能是血液中作为防冻保护剂的葡萄糖运回肝脏和肌肉中再合成糖原的结果。7-8月间糖原含量降低可能与蟾蜍夏蛰有关。雌性5月至10月期间的肝糖原总体水平显著低于雄性,可能与依赖可得到葡萄糖的卵母细胞中的糖原合成有关。糖原含量的季节变化与蟾蜍的生活状态(越冬、繁殖等)有关,并与血糖含量有联动关系。  相似文献

One-year-old Arctic charr, Sulvelinus alpinus (L.), of the Hornavan strain were tested from February 1985 to January 1986 in an attempt to get an increased understanding of the annual rheotactic behaviour as well as the die1 and seasonal locomotor activity pattern. An annular stream tank equipped with photocells was used to measure the direction of swimming movements as well as the number of passings. From February to late May the locomotor activity was low but increased in July and peaked in September. After November the locomotor activity was again at low winter levels. During the activity peak from July to November the majority ofall movements was directed against the current while no preference for direction was noted during the rest of the year. The high level of swimming movements directed against the current in late summer and autumn may be related to an innate habitat change. From February until June, the charr exhibited a bimodal diurnal activity pattern. In July activity was evenly spread over the whole 24- hour period and in August and September activity was again mainly diurnal with a bimodal pattern. In October and November the activity was mainly nocturnal and in December and January activity was concentrated in the short light period. Both annual and die1 activity are discussed in relation to earlier findings in general locomotor activity in Arctic charr and other salmonids.  相似文献

Summary This work presents a calendar of pollen types found in the atmosphere of Chittagong University Campus, Chittagong, Bangladesh, recorded over the period of March 1988–February 1990. A total of 9,225 pollen/cm2 was encountered and classified in 36 pollen types belonging to 26 families. The pollen concentration showed three peak periods, March, October and November and each period was dominated by a specific pollen type. Low frequency of pollen was probably due to heavy rainfall which washed down the pollen. January and February were also marked by lower abundance of pollen and was probably due to the low rate of flowering. This study clearly showed four airborne pollen seasons from October to November, December to February, March to April and June to September. The dominant pollen types were Poaceae, followed by Amaranthaceae, Arecaceae, Asteraceae and Cyperaceae. The pollen calendar was provided to show the range of flowering with the period of occurrence in air of the area studied.  相似文献

Monthly changes in the depth profiles of some chemical characteristics were studied for Oguta Lake, the largest natural lake in the southeastern region of Nigeria. The investigations were conducted from May, 1982, to April, 1983. Hydrogen ion concentration, salinity and alkalinity did not show significant variations with depth. Nitrate-nitrogen showed no definite pattern but in February, October and November, distinct metalimnetic nitrate maxima occurred. Silica was approximately homogeneously distributed with slight negative heterograde curves in February and October. Total phosphorus levels were relatively lower in the bottom water but the most distinct discontinuity occurred in November when a metalimnetic maximum co-occurred with a nitrate-nitrogen maximum. Dissolved oxygen concentration showed a consistent clinograde profile typical of thermally stratified eutrophic waters (WETZEL, 1975). Biochemical oxygen demand values followed the dissolved oxygen pattern very closely.  相似文献

Ascospores of Pyrenopeziza brassicae were produced in apothecia (cup‐shaped ascomata) on oilseed rape debris. The conidia, which were morphologically identical to the ascospores, were produced in acervular conidiomata was greater than for lesions caused by ascospores. In June 2000, on the ground under a crop with light on the surface of living oilseed rape tissues. Ascospores were more infective than conidia on oilseed rape leaves. The proportion of lesions caused by conidia located on leaf veins leaf spot, numbers of petioles with apothecia decreased with increasing distance into the crop from the edge of pathways. Air‐borne ascospores of P. brassicae were first collected above debris of oilseed rape affected with light leaf spot on 5 October 1998 and 18 September 1999,12 or 23 days, respectively, after the debris had been exposed outdoors. P. brassicae conidia were first observed on leaves of winter oilseed rape on 6 January 1999 and 15 February 2000, respectively, after plots had been inoculated with debris in November 1998 and October 1999. In 1991/92, numbers of ascospores above a naturally infected crop were small from January to April and increased in June and July. P. brassicae conidia were first observed in February and the percentage plants with leaves, stems or pods with light leaf spot increased greatly in May and June. In 1992/93, in a crop inoculated with debris, numbers of airborne ascospores were small from October to January and increased from April to June. P. brassicae conidia were first observed on leaves in late November and light leaf spot was seen on stems and pods in March and June 1993, respectively.  相似文献

The seasonal and intra-thallus variations in the contents of C, N, proteins and amino acids, as well as in the storage carbohydrates mannitol and laminaran, were measured in the endemic Antarctic brown alga Ascoseira mirabilis between September and February and related to seasonal changes in dark respiration and photosynthesis. Carbon contents between 31 and 37% DW were relatively constant throughout these months and no variations were detected among thallus regions. Nitrogen contents, by contrast, were higher in September/October (3.1% DW) and decreased in January and February (1.8% DW). In general, the basal regions had the lower N contents. Proteins reached maximum values of 13% DW in November and February and were inversely correlated to photosynthesis (net Pmax). The amino acid content was also higher in October and November (maxima close to 10% DW), but low between December and February (close to 5% DW), probably related to a seasonal pattern of N allocation in the alga. The storage carbohydrates mannitol and laminaran exhibited inverse seasonal changes: low mannitol values close to 5% DW in September were coupled with high laminaran contents varying between 7 and 15% DW. The existence of high laminaran contents in the distal blade region during September and February suggests that this compound was effectively accumulated in this region. The low P/R ratios in spring and the existence of a significant relationship between mannitol content and seasonal photosynthetic activity in the basal region appear to support the hypothesis of a possible utilization of carbohydrates to power growth in A. mirabilis. A group of pubertal Brahman heifers (n = 16) was monitored from October through March to investigate the seasonal changes in estrous cyclicity. The heifers had a mean age of 16.7 +/- 0.3 mo at the initiation of the experiment. They were kept on pasture with vasectomized marker bulls. Supplemental feed to meet NRC requirements was provided. Estrus occurrence was checked once a day and blood samples were taken weekly by tail venipuncture from heifers that had been in estrus 7 to 14 d earlier. Samples were processed to yield serum and were assayed for serum progesterone by radioimmunoassay. A high proportion of heifers (88%) had abnormalities such as estrus without the formation of a functional corpus luteum (CL) or anestrus, with a distribution of the two abnormalities as follows: October 0 and 0, November 50 and 25, December 0 and 50, January 0 and 50, February 18 and 31 and March 0 and 7%, respectively. Mean serum progesterone concentrations during the luteal phase differed by month: 4.26, 1.50, 3.25, 2.27, 2.65 and 3.70 ng/ml for October, November, December, January, February and March, respectively (P<0.001). Heifers that went into anestrus had lower mean serum progesterone concentrations than heifers that had regular estrous cycles throughout the study period (1.35 vs 2.22 ng/ml; P<0.0005). The months with the shortest daylengths (December and January) had the highest incidence of anestrus. Transitional periods (November and February) seemed to occur before and after the months with the highest occurrence of anestrus. During this transitional period a high incidence of estrus without the formation of a functional CL was detected. Serum progesterone concentrations were lower in all heifers during the months with high occurrence of abnormal estrous cycles.  相似文献

Hypertrophy of adipocytes in obese adipose tissues causes metabolic abnormality by adipocytokine dysregulation, which promotes type 2 diabetes mellitus, hypertension, and dyslipidemia. We investigated the effects of wasabi (Wasabia japonica Matsum) leaf extracts on metabolic abnormalities in SHRSP.Z-Leprfa/IzmDmcr rats (SHRSP/ZF), which are a model of metabolic syndrome. Male SHRSP/ZF rats aged 7 weeks were divided into two groups: control and wasabi leaf extract (WLE) groups, which received water or oral treatment with 4 g/kg/day WLE for 6 weeks. WLE improved the body weight gain and high blood pressure in SHRSP/ZF rats, and the plasma triglyceride levels were significantly lower in the WLE group. Adipocyte hypertrophy was markedly prevented in adipose tissue. The expression of PPARγ and subsequent downstream genes was suppressed in the WLE group adipose tissues. Our data suggest that WLE inhibits adipose hypertrophy by suppressing PPARγ expression in adipose tissue and stimulating the AMPK activity by increased adiponectin.  相似文献

The annual reproductive cycle of the Antarctic soft-shelled clam, Laternula elliptica, in Marian Cove, King George Island was studied over a 2-year period from February 1998 to January 2000. Annual changes in the gametogenesis were investigated by measuring the percentage of area occupied by oocytes in a follicle [follicle index (FI)] and the oocyte size. In 1998, the monthly mean FI increased significantly from October to November, peaked in December, and decreased rapidly from December to January. In February and March 1999, degenerated eggs were observed in the spent follicles. Degeneration and resorption of residual eggs by phagocytosis occurred mostly in February and March in both 1998 and 1999, although the resorption process was observed year-round. The histology indicated that complete vitellogenic growth of L. ellpitica at Marian Cove takes at least a year and the clams spawn annually during the austral summer. The ripening and subsequent spawning of clams at Marian Cove in 1998 and 1999 coincided with the algal blooming (September–October 1998 and December and January 1999–2000) suggesting that in coastal Antarctica food supply is a crucial factor that governs gonad maturation and subsequent spawning along with the water temperature.  相似文献

针对黄淮平原中部冬小麦区秋季旱涝频发导致小麦播种推迟的现状,设计冬小麦10月15日(适期播种)、10月30日(中晚期播种)、11月15日(晚期播种)、11月30日(超晚期播种)、2月15日(早春播种)和3月1日(春播)6个播期,研究不同播期冬小麦株型构建及生长发育特征.结果表明: 随着冬小麦播期的推迟,其生长发育进程加快,早春播种和春播与适期播种相比生育期缩短115~130 d;10月30日(中晚期播种)之后的5个播期与适期播种相比株高降低,成穗数和有效小穗数减少;迟播小麦的叶位下移,冠层空间降低,叶面积减少;收获指数随播种期推迟由0.46(适期播种)提高到0.53(春播);冬小麦产量随播种期推迟显著下降,减产幅度最高达43.6%;冬小麦春季播种未经过冬季和早春阶段的自然低温处理,无春化过程依然可形成产量.  相似文献

Hypothalamic dopamine (DA) and noradrenaline (NA), on the other hand, showed marked daily variation in their levels during all the three seasons with peak values in the photophase. The overall activity of MAO (mean ± SEM on 24-hr period) increased from November to May through February, whereas the 5-HT content which was high in November decreased during February and May. The NA and DA levels were low in November and Februry and high in May. Adult male flying foxes Pteropus poliocephalus and P. scapulatus were captured in south-east Queensland and kept in outdoor enclosures. Testicular size (TS), plasma testosterone concentrations (PTC) and body weight (BW) were measured over 1-year periods. Testicular recrudescence in P. poliocephalus began before the summer solstice and TS was greatest during mid-March (autumn) and lowest from July to September. Large increases in PTC were observed in all individuals approximately 1 month after the peak in TS. BW also increased around the time of the mating season, changes being correlated significantly with changes in TS. Mating occurred between April and June, and births from late October to late November. In P. scapulatus, TS was greatest in the spring (October) and least in the autumn (February to May); PTC fluctuated throughout the year in this species but, unlike P. poliocephalus, did not show a single large increase in the mating season. BW showed a similar seasonal pattern to that seen in P. poliocephalus, being greatest at the time of greatest TS. Mating occurred in October to November, and births in autumn. In captivity, in outdoor enclosures, these species maintained the seasonal reproductive patterns observed in the wild. The 2 species respond differently to the same environmental cues in terms of regulation of the timing of their breeding seasons.  相似文献

The relation of seasonal bud activity to the periodicity of rooting in Douglas-fir, Pseudotsuga menziesii (Mirb.) Franco, stem cuttings was studied in combination with auxin and cold storage treatments. Cuttings were collected in all months except April and May, for 3 years. Rooting was least in September and October when bud dormancy was most pronounced, greatest in December and January if exogenous auxin was applied, or in February and March if no auxin was used. The buds contributed significantly to rooting from January to April, and were responsible for differences in rooting of terminal and lateral cuttings during this period. Auxin did not enhance rooting in September and October, but at other times it replaced or supplemented the role of vegetative buds in promoting rooting. Auxin also removed the differences in rooting between lateral and terminal cuttings. Cold treatment in October and November removed bud dormancy and enhanced rooting. After November the need for auxin or cold treatment diminished and rooting without either treatment reached a maximum in February and March. Auxin did not change the seasonal pattern of rooting but broadened and enhanced the rooting response in favor of earliness. These results are discussed in relation to the effect of bud activity on auxin response and root initiation. The hypotheses are proposed that cambial dormancy or auxin deficiency is not the limiting factor during bud dormancy, and that cold treatments have the effect of bringing inhibitors and promoters into proper balance for optimum rooting response.  相似文献

The breeding and moult phenology of an avian community in the Pugu Hills in coastal Tanzania was investigated in a ringing study carried out during January to March 1993, June 1994 to May 1995, and October 1995. A total of 74 bird species was examined. Breeding activity was concentrated from October to April with peak activity between November and February/March. Little or no breeding activity was recorded in May-September period. Moult, on the other hand, was much more spread throughout the annual cycle. Only at the end of the dry period in September and the start of the breeding season in October/November was moulting activity very low. These results are discussed in relation to seasonality of the environment in the study area. It is also suggested that although both processes are physiologically very costly, breeding is much more critical than moult hence must be timed to occur during the best period of the annual cycle.  相似文献

Differential expression of proteins in needles of the extreme freeze tolerant conifer Picea obovata during September, October and November was analyzed using DIGE technology and multivariate analysis. More than 1200 spots were detected, and the abundance of 252 of these spots was significantly altered during the course of acclimation. The 252 spots were clustered into five distinct expression profiles. Among the protein spots showing differential expression, 43 were identified by MALDI-TOF/TOF and twelve of them matched proteins associated with various biotic and abiotic stress responses in other plants. Dehydrins, Hsp70s, AAA+ ATPases, lipocalin, cyclophilins, glycine-rich protein (GNP) and several reactive oxygen intermediate scavenging proteins showed increased accumulation levels from September to November. The expression profiles and putative role of the identified proteins during acclimation and freezing tolerance are discussed.  相似文献

Leaf reflectance responses to increased ozone and precipitationacidity were determined at visible (400–720 nm) and infra-red(720–2500 nm) wavelengths for field-grown seedlings ofloblolly pine (Pinus taeda L.). Treatments were maintained continuouslyfrom 3 April to 3 November. In a relatively ozone-sensitivevariety of pine, increased ozone decreased visible and infra-redreflectance by late May. By late August, continued exposureto ozone increased visible and infra-red reflectance. As oflate November, ozone at 17ambient or greater concentrationshad increased visible reflectance substantially in an ozone-insensitiveas well as the ozone-sensitive variety. Acidic precipitationdecreased visible and infra-red reflectances in both varietiesin May and decreased infra-red reflectances in the ozone-sensitivevariety in August, but did not produce significant reflectanceresponses in November. Visible reflectance responses to ozoneand acidic precipitation, particularly those near 700 nm, werespectrally similar to reflectance responses reported previouslyfor other deleterious environmental influences.
