The influence of somatostatin (SRIF) on blood glucose, plasma insulin and plasma glucagon was studied in hamsters bearing a transplantable islet-cell tumor secreting insulin and glucagon as well as in normal controls. Fed anesthetized animals were infused intraperitoneally either at a dose of 10 microgram in 15 min or of 150 microgram in 30 min, and intravenously at a dose of 250 microgram in 30 min. Blood was withdrawn from the jugular vein before and after infusion. Before the infusions, tumor bearing animals (TB) had lower blood glucose, markedly elevated plasma glucagon and slightly lower plasma insulin by comparison with normal hamsters (N). Both doses of somatostatin infused by the intraperitoneal route produced a slight but significant hypoglycemia in TB hamsters but not in normals. Ten microgram SRIF did not affect insulin and plasma glucagon levels whereas 150 microgram SRIF significantly depressed plasma insulin in both types of hamsters (N and TB). This latter dose of SRIF decreased plasma glucagon in normal but not in tumor-bearing hamsters. Intravenous infusion of 250 microgram SRIF did not reduce the hyperglucagonemia of TB hamsters either. These results indicate that somatostatin does not reduce the hyperglucagonemia due to the transplantable islet-cell tumor but nevertheless decreases blood glucose and plasma insulin.  相似文献

Adult mice, rats and hamsters were injected with 0 or 0.3 IU hCG/g BW, 24 h before sacrifice. Basal LH receptor concentration was highest in rats and lowest in hamsters (rats greater than mice greater than hamsters). Injection of hCG caused LH receptor down-regulation in rats and mice, and up-regulation in hamsters. Basal plasma progesterone was highest in hamsters and lowest in rats (hamsters greater than mice greater than rats), however, hCG increased plasma progesterone levels in mice and rats, but not in hamsters. Mice had much higher plasma and testicular testosterone levels than other species, but hCG did not induce a relatively more dramatic increase in any species. When testes fragments were incubated with 0 or 12.5 mIU hCG/ml for 4 h, hCG increased media progesterone levels in rats and control mice, but not in hamsters and hCG-injected mice. Also, hCG elevated media testosterone levels in control but not in hCG-injected animals. Furthermore, addition of hCG in vitro partially prevented the elevation of media testosterone induced by in vivo hCG. The present results indicate that the mechanisms for the transduction of the gonadotropic signal by the Leydig cells are species-defined.  相似文献

We previously showed that a dissociated form of a low-molecular-weight heat shock-related protein 20 (HSP20) but not an aggregated form of HSP20 suppresses platelet aggregation. In the present study, we investigated the behavior of HSP20 in response to endothelial injury and the possible mechanism of HSP20 in platelet functions. The levels of HSP20 in vessel wall after endothelial injury were markedly reduced. This observation was supported by the results of Western blotting analysis and immunohistochemical analysis. Additionally, the plasma levels of HSP20 in cardiomyopathic hamsters were markedly elevated. Centrifugation on sucrose density gradients allowed detection mainly of the dissociated form of plasma HSP20 in these hamsters. Human platelets showed specific binding sites for HSP20. Moreover, HSP20 markedly reduced thrombin-induced phosphoinositide hydrolysis by phospholipase C in human platelets. Taken together, our results strongly suggest that HSP20, which immediately responds to pathological events, acts extracellularly as a regulator of platelet functions.  相似文献

Hypertriglyceridemia, closely associated with insulin resistance, is induced on high-fat diets (HFD) in humans but not in mouse models. Mechanisms underlying this species difference are still unclear. Hamsters resemble humans in lipoprotein metabolism. Here by comparing the responses to HFD in hamsters and mice, we found that hepatic TG secretion, MTP expression and plasma free fatty acid (FFA) level were increased in hamsters on HFD feeding but decreased in mice. Although hepatic steatosis and de novo lipogenesis were induced by HFD feeding in both models, cholesterol biosynthesis was inhibited in mice but not in hamsters. Moreover, in insulin deficient state, HFD increased plasma TG level, hepatic TG secretion, MTP expression and plasma FFA level in both models. In summary, distinct changes of MTP expression, in correlation with hepatic TG secretion, underlie the opposite responses of plasma TG levels to high-fat diets in hamsters and mice. Furthermore, hepatic TG secretion and MTP expression seems to be associated with plasma FFA level and cholesterol biosynthesis but not hepatic steatosis or de novo lipogenesis.  相似文献

The influence of Zn deficiency on the plasma level as well asthe hepatic and intestinal gene expression of apolipoprotein (apo) A-Iwas examined in rats and hamsters. Male Sprague-Dawley rats (8 wk old)and Golden Syrian hamsters (7 wk old) were assigned to three dietarytreatments: Zn adequate (ZA, 30 mg Zn/kg diet), Zn deficient (ZD,<0.5 mg Zn/kg diet), and Zn replete (ZDA, ZD animals fed the ZA dietfor the last 2 days). The dietary treatments lasted for 18 days forrats or 6 wk for hamsters. For the measurement of apoA-I mRNAabundance, hamster apoA-I cDNA was cloned from the small intestine. Thefull-length 905-base pair cDNA shared ~80% similarity with thehuman, rat, and mouse apoA-I cDNAs. Hepatic and plasma Zn levels werereduced in ZD animals but normalized in ZDA rats and increased in ZDAhamsters compared with ZA animals. Zn deficiency reduced plasma apoA-Iand hepatic apoA-I mRNA levels 13 and 38%, respectively, in ZD rats. The 2 days of Zn replenishment raised plasma apoA-I and hepatic apoA-ImRNA levels in ZDA rats by 34 and 28%, respectively, higher than ZArats. Similarly, these levels were decreased by 18 and 25%,respectively, in ZD hamsters but normalized in ZDA hamsters comparedwith ZA hamsters. In contrast to the alterations of hepatic apoA-I mRNAlevels, neither Zn deficiency nor subsequent Zn repletion producedalterations in the intestinal apoA-I mRNA abundance. Data from thisstudy demonstrated that Zn deficiency specifically decreases hepaticapoA-I gene expression, which may at least be partly responsible forthe reduction of plasma apoA-I levels.

The "adipostat hypothesis" refers to the idea that circulating hormone concentrations reflect levels of body adiposity and act as signals to control food intake and reproduction. Implicit in the adipostatic hypothesis are the following two assumptions: 1) plasma levels of adipostatic hormones accurately reflect body fat content and 2) decreased plasma concentrations of adipostatic hormones necessarily result in increased food intake and inhibited reproductive processes. The present experiments are designed to test these assumptions. Fat and lean Syrian hamsters were either fasted for 12, 24, 36, or 48 h or allowed ad libitum access to food. Contrary to the first assumption, plasma leptin and insulin levels in fat hamsters dropped dramatically by 12 h after the start of a fast, with no significant change in body fat content and no postfast hyperphagia. Lean hamsters showed anestrus after a 48-h fast but not after a 24-h fast. Contrary to the second assumption of the lipostatic hypothesis, lean hamsters fasted for 24 h and then refed for the next 24 h had leptin levels that were not significantly elevated compared with those of 48-h-fasted hamsters. Thus, in adult female Syrian hamsters, plasma leptin concentrations do not accurately reflect body fat content under all conditions; normal estrous cyclicity does not necessarily require plasma leptin concentrations higher than those of fasted hamsters; and decreased plasma leptin levels do not result in increased food intake.  相似文献

The purpose of the present study was to characterize the hormonal response of dominant and submissive male hamsters to acute and repeated exposure to social conflict. We found that submissive, but not dominant, males exhibited elevated plasma levels of adrenocorticotropin (ACTH), cortisol, and beta-endorphin (beta-EP) following one exposure to an agonistic encounter. After five exposures to a dominant opponent, submissive males showed smaller, but still significant, elevations in these plasma hormones. After nine exposures, submissive hamsters showed significant elevations only in plasma ACTH and beta-EP. Plasma testosterone was significantly suppressed in submissive males that fought nine times. We conclude that hamsters are a useful species with which to study the neuroendocrine correlates of social behavior.  相似文献

1. The hamster liver but not that of the rat, secretes VLDL containing only apoprotein B100. Apoprotein B48 was identified in mesenteric lymph of hamsters and therefore plasma apoprotein B48 is of intestinal origin. 2. Male hamster livers secrete less free cholesterol but similar cholesterol ester than male rats resulting in a higher CE/FC ratio in hamsters. 3. Hepatic VLDL from male hamsters contain more apo B and E while that from females contains more TG and apo A-II/C. 4. Hamsters fed high-C diets secrete more hepatic VLDL-apoprotein B, -free and -cholesterol ester, and biliary cholesterol.  相似文献

The effect of fermented skim milk (FSM) by Lactobacillus casei strain Shirota on plasma lipids in hamsters was examined. Hamsters fed on cholesterol-free and -enriched diets containing 30% FSM had lower levels of plasma triglyceride than those fed on the control diet. In the experiment with the cholesterol-enriched diet-fed hamsters, the plasma triglyceride level was suppressed by FSM at concentrations of 10% to 30%. Unfermented milk tended to lower the level of triglyceride, but not significantly. The plasma cholesterol concentration was not affected by an FSM and unfermented skim milk supplement to the diet. L. casei strain Shirota grew well in the presence of mixed lipid micelles containing bile acid, but did not have the ability to remove cholesterol from the culture broth. These results indicate that FSM lowered the plasma triglyceride level in hamsters.  相似文献

Oral administration of cholestyramine to adult male hamsters not only induced a marked decrease in plasma concentrations of cholesterol and LDL but had a similar lowering effect on plasma triacyglycerol and VLDL concentrations. The hypotriglyceridaemic effects of resin administration were not due to an increase in lipoprotein lipase, as post-heparin plasma lipoprotein lipase activities were unchanged, but rather to a 35% decrease in VLDL synthesis. Measurement of the disappearance rate of apolipoprotein B from VLDL after i.v. injection of 125I-labelled hamster or human VLDL into control and cholestyramine-fed recipient animals showed a 2-times lower T1/2 in the drug-treated animals. The fraction of VLDL apolipoprotein B, recovered at any time after injection in the LDL, was equal or higher in cholestyramine-fed animals as compared to controls. These data indicate that the lowering in plasma LDL by cholestyramine in male hamsters is due not only to LDL receptor up-regulation but also to a lower rate of VLDL synthesis. No indications were found for a decreased efficiency of VLDL to LDL conversion in cholestyramine-fed animals.  相似文献

Multiple fibronectin subunits and their post-translational modifications   总被引:11,自引:0,他引:11
We report analyses of fibronectin subunit diversity by high resolution one- and two-dimensional gel electrophoresis. We have studied plasma and cellular fibronectins of rats and hamsters. Each form of fibronectin comprises multiple distinguishable subunits and, within each rodent species, all subunits of plasma fibronectin are resolvable from those of cellular fibronectin. Some, but not all, of this heterogeneity is caused by differential glycosylation. Thus, while glycosylated plasma and cellular fibronectins share no common subunits, nonglycosylated forms of these proteins appear to share 2-3 subunits. In addition, there are subunits unique to plasma and to cellular fibronectins in both rats and hamsters, although the pattern of diversity differs slightly between species. All size variants of fibronectin are phosphorylated to varying degrees. However, only some subunits are sulfated, apparently on tyrosine residues in the C-terminal third of the molecule. Comparison of the distribution of sulfate on the various fibronectin subunits with recent results on generation of multiple mRNAs by alternative splicing suggests that tyrosine sulfate is located in a polypeptide segment present in only certain fibronectin subunits. The results reported here provide information on the likely contributions of primary sequence differences and post-translational modifications to the heterogeneity of fibronectin subunits.  相似文献

Currently, diets higher in polyunsaturated fat are believed to lower blood cholesterol concentrations, and thus reduce atherosclerosis, greater than diets containing high amounts of saturated or possibly even monounsaturated fat. The present study was designed to investigate the effect of diets containing mid- or high-linoleic oil versus the typical high-linoleic sunflower oil on LDL oxidation and the development of early atherosclerosis in a hypercholesterolemic hamster model. Animals were fed a hypercholesterolemic diet containing 10% mid-oleic sunflower oil, high-oleic olive oil, or high-linoleic sunflower oil (wt/wt) plus 0.4% cholesterol (wt/wt) for 10 weeks. After 10 weeks of dietary treatment, only the animals fed the mid-oleic sunflower oil had significant reductions in plasma LDL-C levels (-17%) compared to the high-linoleic sunflower oil group. The high-oleic olive oil-fed hamsters had significantly higher plasma triglyceride levels (+41%) compared to the high-linoleic sunflower oil-fed hamsters. The tocopherol levels in plasma LDL were significantly higher in hamsters fed the mid-oleic sunflower oil (+77%) compared to hamsters fed either the high-linoleic sunflower or high-oleic olive oil. Measurements of LDL oxidation parameters, indicated that hamsters fed the mid-oleic sunflower oil and high-oleic olive oil diets had significantly longer lag phase (+66% and +145%, respectively) and significantly lower propagation rates (-26% and -44%, respectively) and conjugated dienes formed (-17% and -25%, respectively) compared to the hamsters fed the high-linoleic sunflower oil. Relative to the high-linoleic sunflower oil, aortic cholesterol ester was reduced by -14% and -34% in the mid-oleic sunflower oil and high-oleic olive oil groups, respectively, with the latter reaching statistical significance. Although there were no significant associations between plasma lipids and lipoprotein cholesterol with aortic total cholesterol and cholesterol esters for any of the groups, the lag phase of conjugated diene formation was inversely associated with both aortic total and esterified cholesterol in the high-oleic olive oil-fed hamsters (r = -0.69, P < 0.05). The present study suggests that mid-oleic sunflower oil reduces risk factors such as lipoprotein cholesterol and oxidative stress associated with early atherosclerosis greater than the typical high-linoleic sunflower oil in hypercholesterolemic hamsters. The high-oleic olive oil not only significantly reduced oxidative stress but also reduced aortic cholesterol ester, a hallmark of early aortic atherosclerosis greater than the typical high-linoleic sunflower oil.  相似文献

The rates of in vitro incorporation of [2-14C]mevalonate and of [2-14C]acetate were determined in the liver and in the ileum obtained from two groups of hamsters. The first (N-H) were conventional hamsters with normal cholesterolemia, the second (FEC-H) were hamsters which develop high levels of cholesterol in plasma and in the liver with age. In FEC-H, the levels of cholesterol reached 130 to 220 mg/100 ml in plasma and 600-2400 mg/100 g fresh tissue in the liver in contrast to about 100 mg and 350 mg respectively in the N-H group. The accumulation of cholesterol in the tissues of FEC-H was found to be associated with a strong decrease in the incorporation rate of the precursors into cholesterol, but above all, the distribution of the radioactivity derived from [2-14C]mevalonate between free cholesterol and esterified cholesterol was markedly different in the two groups of hamsters. In FEC-H, 78% of the radioactivity was found in the esters, as opposed to 10% found in the N-H group. Thus, the development of hypercholesterolemia with age in FEC-H might be related to alterations in the enzyme systems (ACAT, CEH) which modulate the level of cholesterol esters in the liver. No significant difference was observed between the two groups of hamsters either in the concentration of cholesterol or in the rate of cholesterogenesis in the ileum.  相似文献

The effects of structured triglycerides containing one long chain fatty acid (oleic acid, C18:1) and one short chain saturated fatty acid (caprylic acid, 8:0) on lipidemia, liver and aortic cholesterol, and fecal neutral sterol excretion were investigated in male Golden Syrian hamsters fed a hypercholesterolemic regimen consisting of 89.9% commercial ration to which was added 10% coconut oil and 0.1% cholesterol (w/w). After 2 weeks on the HCD diet, the hamsters were bled, following an overnight fast (16 h) and placed into one of three dietary treatments of eight animals each based on similar plasma cholesterol levels. The hamsters either continued on the HCD diet or were placed on diets in which the coconut oil was replaced by one of two structured triglycerides, namely, 1(3),2-dicaproyl-3(1)-oleoylglycerol (OCC) or 1,3-dicaproyl-2-oleoylglycerol (COC) at 10% by weight. Plasma total cholesterol (TC) in hamsters fed the OCC and COC compared to the HCD were reduced 40% and 49%, respectively (P<0.05). Similarly, hamsters fed the OCC and COC diets reduced their plasma nonHDL cholesterol levels by 47% and 57%, respectively (P<0.05), compared to hamsters fed the HCD after 2 weeks of dietary treatment. Although hamsters fed the OCC (-26%) and COC (-32%) had significantly lower plasma HDL levels compared to HCD, (P<0.05), the plasma nonHDL/HDL cholesterol ratio was significantly lower (P<0.05) compared to the HCD for the OCC-fed (-27%) and the COC-fed (-38%) hamsters, respectively. Compared to the HCD group, aortic esterified cholesterol was 20% and 53% lower for the OCC and COC groups, respectively, with the latter reaching statistical significance, P<0.05. In conclusion, the hamsters fed the structured triglyceride oils had lower blood cholesterol levels and lower aortic accumulation of cholesterol compared to the control fed hamsters.  相似文献

We investigated the presence of cholesteryl ester transfer activity (CETA) in plasma of hamsters kept on various dietary regimens. In hamsters kept on a regular diet, CETA activity was about 5 units/4 mg protein of d greater than 1.21 g/ml fraction of plasma, as compared to about 35 units present in human d greater than 1.21 g/ml fraction. Addition of 15% margarine or butter alone or together with 2% cholesterol resulted in a 2-3-fold increase in plasma CETA. The increase in plasma CETA was correlated with plasma cholesterol levels (r = 0.78; P less than 0.001) and plasma triacylglycerol levels (r = 0.56, P less than 0.001). Hamsters consuming the cholesterol + butter-supplemented diets had the highest plasma CETA, cholesterol and triacylglycerol levels, while CETA in plasma of rats and mice remained nondetectable even after 4 weeks on the diet. The causal relation between hypercholesterolemia, hypertriglyceridemia and evaluation in CETA in hamsters remains to be elucidated.  相似文献

Studies of thyroid physiology in rats and hamsters support the view that the pineal gland has an anti-thyrotropic action. While chronic exposure of hamsters to short photoperiod, darkness, or blindness results in a depression of plasma thyroxin and plasma TSH, removal of the pineal gland, which synthesizes melatonin, prevents these effects. Melatonin administration, in the form of daily injections given late in the photoperiod, also results in inhibition of plasma thyroxin and plasma TSH. These anti-thyrotropic effects are similar to the anti-gonadotropic effects of melatonin. The results of a variety of experiments are consistent with the view that melatonin acts on a neuroendocrine control mechanism influencing synthesis or release of hypothalamic thyrotropin releasing hormone (TRH).  相似文献

Experiments were performed to characterize plasma lipid transfer protein activity (LTA), and the rate of [3H]CE transfer from HDL to lower density lipoproteins in plasma of hamsters. Compared to rabbits, hamster plasma has about one-tenth the level of d greater than 1.21 LTA but a relatively high level of VLDL-triacylglycerols, and a higher fractional rate of HDL-[3H]CE transfer in plasma (in vitro) than predicted by the d greater than 1.21 LTA. Like the rat, hamster plasma contains an inhibitor(s) of LTA; the level of the inhibitor activity in d greater than 1.21 g/ml plasma was similar in normal and hyperlipoproteinemic hamsters. Hypertriglyceridemia in sucrose-fed hamsters did not affect LTA, cholesteryl ester transfer or the plasma level of HDL-CE. However, a comparable degree of hypercholesterolemia was associated with a 122% increase in plasma d greater than 1.21 LTA and a 63% increase in the fractional rate of [3H]CE transfer from HDL to lower density lipoproteins in plasma. Cholesterol feeding in hamsters was associated with increased plasma levels of LDL-cholesterol and, to a lesser extent, with VLDL- and IDL-cholesterol.  相似文献

Male rats and hamsters were exposed to a progressively lower air temperature and shorter photoperiod to simulate the onset of winter. Normothermic hamsters had a higher haematological oxygen carrying capacity (OCC) and coagulability (shorter prothrombin time and activated partial thromboplastin time) than rats. Cold acclimation significantly increased the OCC of rats, which parallels an increased metabolic rate, while no differences were observed in hamsters. Red cell transit time through filters was faster in the acclimated rats but not in hamsters, reflecting the lower mean cell volume due to a decreased rate of clearance from the circulation. Platelet counts were significantly lower in both cold-acclimated rats and hamsters, and there was a significant leucopenia in rats, which would reduce the degree of microvascular blockade. Whole blood viscosity, plasma viscosity, and serum osmolarity showed little change in either species. However, whole blood viscosity was significantly lower in cold-acclimated hamsters than control hamsters at the lowest shear rate tested (0.95 s(-1)). Interestingly, plasma viscosity and serum osmolarity were significantly lower in hamsters exposed to low temperatures for a shorter period (4 weeks), and may reflect the development of a reduced coagulability. These data suggest that blood composition in hamsters contributes to an innate tolerance of low temperatures, maintaining tissue perfusion under hypothermic conditions and aiding arousal from hibernation.  相似文献

The potent hypolipidemic activity of HOE 402 (4-amino-2-(4,4-dimethyl-2-oxo-l-imidazolidinyl)pyrimidine-5-N-(trifluoromethylphenyl)carboxamide monohydrochloride), which was previously demonstrated in rat and rabbit, was investigated in noncholesterol and cholesterol fed male hamsters. In normolipidemic hamsters fed a low cholesterol chow diet containing 0.10% or 0.15% HOE 402 for 3 weeks, the plasma total cholesterol level fell by 13% and 20% respectively, but no effect on hepatic total cholesterol content was detected. Hepatic sterol synthesis was increased 3-fold in hamsters fed 0.15% HOE 402. In hamsters fed a chow diet containing 0.25% cholesterol for 3 weeks, the plasma cholesterol level increased to 226 mg/dl (compared to 123 mg/dl in their chow fed controls) and the liver cholesterol content was 26.2 mg/g compared to 2.3 mg/g in the control group. However, 0.15% HOE 402 led to a 48% reduction and 0.20% HOE 402 to a 80% reduction, in total hepatic cholesterol concentration. There was a 43% fall in plasma cholesterol level being observed with the higher HOE 402 dose. Using the dual isotope plasma ratio method, no inhibition of intestinal cholesterol absorption by HOE 402 was found, either in the noncholesterol fed or in the cholesterol fed hamsters. Cholesterol feeding diminished the whole LDL animal clearance to 393 ± 17 μl/h per 100 g animal (control 666 ± 81 μl/h per 100 g). When treated with 0.20% HOE 402, the whole animal LDL clearance rate was enhanced 2.3-fold to 824 ± 66 μl/h per 100 g. In the hamsters fed 0.25% cholesterol alone whole liver LDL receptor activity was suppressed to 63 ± 5%, compared to that in the untreated controls (100%). The addition of 0.20% HOE 402 to the cholesterol enriched diet not only reversed this suppression, but resulted in a marked stimulation of liver receptor activity to 165 ± 15% (whole body LDL receptor activity 141 ± 10%). These results indicate that HOE 402 exerts its lipid lowering effect by a more direct activation on hepatic LDL receptor activity rather than by an indirect intestinal effect on cholesterol absorption.  相似文献

Several studies have reported on the effect of refined, bleached and deodorized palm oil (RBD-PO) incorporation into the diet on blood cholesterol concentrations and on the development of atherosclerosis. However, very little work has been reported on the influence of red palm oil (RPO), which is higher in carotenoid and tocopherol content than RBD-PO. Thus, we studied the influence of RPO, RBD-PO and a RBD-PO plus red palm oil extract (reconstituted RBD-PO) on plasma cholesterol concentrations and aortic accumulation vs. hamsters fed coconut oil. Forty-eight F1B Golden Syrian hamsters (Mesocricetus auratus) (BioBreeders, Watertown, MA) were group housed (three/cage) in hanging polystyrene cages with bedding in an air-conditioned facility maintained on a 12-h light/dark cycle. The hamsters were fed a chow-based hypercholesterolemic diet (HCD) containing 10% coconut oil and 0.1% cholesterol for 2 weeks at which time they were bled after an overnight fast and segregated into four groups of 12 with similar plasma cholesterol concentrations. Group 1 continued on the HCD, Group 2 was fed the HCD containing 10% RPO in place of coconut oil, Group 3 was fed the HCD containing 10% RBD-PO in place of coconut oil and Group 4 was fed the HCD with 10% reconstituted RBD-PO for an additional 10 weeks. Plasma total cholesterol (TC) and non-high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol (HDL-C) (very low- and low-density lipoprotein) concentrations were significantly lower in the hamsters fed the RPO (-42% and -48%), RBD-PO (-32% and -36%) and the reconstituted RBD-PO (-37% and -41%) compared to the coconut oil-fed hamsters. Plasma HDL-C concentrations were significantly higher by 14% and 31% in hamsters fed the RBD-PO and RPO compared to the coconut oil-fed hamsters. Plasma triglyceride (TG) concentrations were significantly lower in hamsters fed RBD-PO (-32%) and the reconstituted RBD-PO (-31%) compared to the coconut oil-fed hamsters. The plasma gamma-tocopherol concentrations were higher in the coconut oil-fed hamsters compared to the hamsters fed the RPO (60%), RBD-PO (42%) and the reconstituted RBD-PO (49%), while for plasma alpha-tocopherol concentrations, the coconut oil-fed hamsters were significantly higher than only the RPO-fed hamsters (21%). The coconut oil-fed hamsters also had significantly higher plasma lipid hydroperoxide concentrations compared to RBD-PO (112%) and the reconstituted RBD-PO (485%). The hamsters fed the coconut oil diet excreted significantly more fecal total neutral sterols and cholesterol compared to the hamsters fed the RBD-PO (158% and 167%, respectively). The coconut oil-fed hamsters had significantly higher levels of aortic total, free and esterified cholesterol compared to the hamsters fed the RPO (74%, 50% and 225%, respectively), RBD-PO (57%, 48% and 92%, respectively) and the reconstituted RBD-PO (111%, 94% and 94%, respectively). Also, aortic free/ester cholesterol ratio in the aortas of hamsters fed RPO was significantly higher than in those fed the coconut oil (124%). In conclusion, hamsters fed the three palm oil preparations had lower plasma TC and non-HDL-C and higher HDL-C concentrations while accumulating less aortic cholesterol concentrations compared to hamsters fed coconut oil.  相似文献
