Lead remains one of the most hazardous metals in our environment. The concentrations of lead in coronal dentine and enamel have previously been reported but limited information is available regarding lead levels in radicular dentine and cementum. This study reports the distribution of lead in 26 roots of 16 human maxillary primary teeth from seven individuals. In addition, calcium and phosphorous concentrations were also measured to detect any variations in the degree of mineralization in different regions of the roots. The mean lead concentration in these roots was 1.67 +/- 1.43 microg/g, which is comparable to other studies. In all cases there were higher lead concentrations in the apices of non-resorbed roots of primary maxillary teeth relative to middle and cervical regions. The findings reported here are of potential significance during the process of physiological root resorption whence periapical tissue may be exposed to higher levels of lead. 相似文献

The chicken is an excellent model organism for studying vertebrate limb development, mainly because of the ease of manipulating the developing limb in vivo. Classical chicken embryology has provided fate maps and elucidated the cell-cell interactions that specify limb pattern. The first defined chemical that can mimic one of these interactions was discovered by experiments on developing chick limbs and, over the last 15 years or so, the role of an increasing number of developmentally important genes has been uncovered. The principles that underlie limb development in chickens are applicable to other vertebrates and there are growing links with clinical genetics. The sequence of the chicken genome, together with other recently assembled chicken genomic resources, will present new opportunities for exploiting the ease of manipulating the limb. 相似文献

Embryological characters can be used to address taxonomic relationships and complement molecular phylogenetics and are of special value at the genus level. However, embryological information is fragmentary in Smilax and completely unknown in Smilax davidiana, a Chinese species. Anther wall development, placentation, sporogenesis and gametogenesis of S. davidiana are characterized here. The anther is bisporangiate, anther wall formation is of the Dicotyledonous type, both epidermis and endothecium develop fibrous thickenings, and the tapetum is secretory and of dual origin. Cytokinesis in the microsporocyte meiosis is successive, the microspore tetrad is tetragonal, and mature pollen is two-celled. The ovary is mostly trilocular with an axile placentation (a small fraction of the ovaries are unilocular with parietal placentation), the ovule is anatropous, bitegmic and crassinucellate, with embryo sac development of the Polygonum type. This study documents for the first time the embryological characters of S. davidiana in detail and contributes much to the embryology of Smilax. 相似文献

Up to the cap-stage the lateral enamel strand extends from the dental lamina to the tip of the tongue-like projection of the enamel organ, forming there a swelling. It does not reach the free margin of the enamel organ at the bell-stage. The lateral enamel strand gradually becomes smaller in regard to the tooth germ, changing its relative position to the mesial half of the latter, and finally degenerates. In the molar germ, as the epithelial tongue-like projection at the cap-stage increases in length to become an interradical process, the lateral enamel strand extends as a crest on the buccal interradical process. The direction of the lateral enamel strand is inverse in the maxillary molar germs. 相似文献
