A simple procedure for enumerating and grouping the bacterial colonists of Eurasian watermilfoil (Myriophyllum spicatum L.) is described. Colony characteristics of bacteria associated with M. spicatum were better defined and more stable on nutrient-poor, diluted nutrient broth agar than on high-nutrient media. Acinetobacter, Cytophaga, Flavobacterium, Moraxella, Pseudomonas and/or Alcaligenes, and Vibrio/Aeromonas spp., as well as two highly fastidious unidentified bacterial groups (gram-negative rods and gram-negative cocci), were associated with cultured watermilfoil during January, February, May, June, July, and August 1988. In Lake Wingra (Madison, Wis.), Micrococcus spp. and enterobacters were also associated with Eurasian watermilfoil during July, August, and October 1987.  相似文献

This aeropalynological study documented the pollen of 13 taxa with the highest concentration in the air of Palma de Mallorca during the years 2004–2010, using a Hirst-type volumetric spore trap. The taxa were Cupressaceae, Olea europaea, Platanus hispanica, Pinus spp., Parietaria judaica, Urtica membranacea, Quercus ilex, Poaceae, Chenopodiaceae/Amaranthaceae, Plantago spp., Castanea sativa, Pistacia lentiscus and Betula spp. These taxa accounted for 91.85 % of the total annual pollen recorded during the period. The mean annual pollen index was 20,027. The highest pollen counts occurred in February–June, representing 88.74 % of the annual total collected. Every year, there was a substantial increase in the concentration and types of pollen from March to May, followed by a decrease from July to January. The maximum annual total pollen count was recorded in 2005 with 25,870 and the minimum in 2009 with 14,726. The mean daily average pollen concentration count showed a declining trend over the study period. With respect to seasonal phases analysed, the later phase of the pollen season is more variable than the beginning. To observe the overall dynamics of the different pollen types better, a pollen calendar was established for Palma de Mallorca. The pollen calendar had typical Mediterranean features and is a useful tool for allergological and botanical awareness.  相似文献

In the present study, nectar and pollen sources for honeybee (Apls cerana cerana Fabr.) were studied in Qlnglan mangrove area, Hainan Island, China, based on microscopic analysis of honey and pollen load (corblcular and gut contents) from honeybees collected In October and November 2004. Qualitative and quantitative melittopalynologlcal analysis of the natural honey sample showed that the honey is of unlfloral type with Mimosa pudlca L. (Mlmosaceae) as the predominant (89.14%) source of nectar and pollen for A. cerana cerana In October. Members of Araceae are an Important minor (3%-15%) pollen type, whereas those of Arecaceae are a minor (〈3%) pollen type. Pollen grains of Nypa fruticans Wurmb., Rhlzophora spp., Excoecarla agallocha L., Lumnitzera spp., Brugulera spp., Kandella candel Druce, and Ceriops tagal (Perr.) C. B. Rob. are among the notable mangrove texa growing In Qinglan mangrove area recorded as minor taxa In the honey. The absolute pollen count (I.e. the number of pollen grains/10 g honey sample) suggests that the honey belongs to Group V (〉1 000 000). Pollen analysis from the corblcular and gut contents of A. cerana cerana revealed the highest representation (95.60%) of members of Sonneratia spp. (Sonneratlaceae), followed by Bruguiera spp. (Rhizophoraceae), Euphorblaceae, Poaceae, Fabaceae, Arecaceae, Araceae, Anacardlaceae, and Rublaceae. Of these plants, those belonging to Sonneratla plants are the most Important nectar and pollen sources for A. cerana cerana and are frequently foraged and pollinated by these bees in November.  相似文献

The occurrence, chronology of breeding and wing-moult, and feeding habits of the Pigmy Goose Nettapus auritus, Knob-billed Goose Sarkidiornis melanotos, Spur-winged Goose Plectropterus gambensis, Egyptian Goose Alopochen aegyptiaca and Red-knobbed Coot Fulica cristata on the Kafue Flats in Zambia are described based on observations made between October 1970 and January 1974 at Lochinvar National Park and, from the air, over the central section of the Flats. The Pigmy Goose, Knob-billed Goose, Egyptian Goose and Red-knobbed Coot fed largely by grazing. They were most abundant between March and June, occurring in greatest numbers at Lochinvar. Egyptian Geese occasionally nested on the flood-plain at Lochinvar between August and January, but there was no proof of the other species nesting there. Many Pigmy Geese and male Knob-billed Geese moulted on the lagoon at Lochinvar between March and June; small numbers of Egyptian Geese and Red-knobbed Coot also moulted in the Park, the former between February and May, the latter in June and July. The Spur-winged Goose fed mostly by grazing and grubbing. Numbers on the Flats were greatest between June and November when 60,000–90,000 moved downriver as the floods subsided. Many bred between January and March in the fringing zone and moulted on the floodplain between May and July. A hydroelectric scheme, completed in 1975, may benefit the Pigmy Goose and Red-knobbed Coot but harm the Spur-winged Goose.  相似文献

This study was achieved in a private apiary located in a banana farm in Sa El Hagar, Basioun, Gharbia, Egypt from August 15, 2019 to May 25, 2020, including the banana (Musa sp., Musaceae) flow season (August and September) and extend to Egyptian clover (Trifolium alexandrinum L., Fabaceae) flow season (May). The study aimed to evaluate the effect of confining the queen during the banana flow season on the brood rearing, honey yield, and activation of worker's ovaries. Also, we determined the negative impact of caging the queen during the banana flow season on the activity of the colony in brood rearing, storing pollen, and honey yield after releasing the queen on 5 October, extending to the next flow season in May. The obtained results showed that the honeybee colonies with the caged queen produced significantly more honey yield and less brood production than the free queen ones during the banana flow season. Also, the caging of the queen did not affect the colony strength after releasing the queen despite the partial development of the ovaries of some workers, but they did not lay eggs. In addition, releasing the queens suppressed the ovaries of the laying workers. It can be concluded that caging the queen during the banana flow season helps the colonies to produce more honey yield without effect on the colony strength after releasing the queen despite the ovaries development of few workers without egg-laying.  相似文献

The dynamics of the fatty acid (FA) composition of total lipids in needles of Siberian spruce (Picea obovata L.) during the first half (March–July) of the 2010 vegetation season has been studied. Three maxima of the unsaturated fatty acid (UFA) content with increased levels of α-linolenic acid are revealed in the postwinter (March 10–April 6), spring (April 20–May 18), and summer (June 1–July 20) periods. During postwinter and spring vegetation, the UFA increase is accompanied by an increase in the oleic and linoleic desaturation ratios. The spring peak of the 18:3ω3 content coincides with the spring peak in chlorophylls in the light-harvesting complexes of photosynthetic units and with the onset of the net CO2 assimilation. The summer peak is characterized by the level of chlorophylls, which is the highest over the entire monitoring period. The possible ways that the FA is involved in the rearrangement of the structural and functional organization of the photosynthetic apparatus of a coniferous plant are discussed.  相似文献

The annual airborne pollen variation of thePorto region was studied from November 2001 toOctober 2002 using a Cour type sampler. A totalof 170 × 106 grains m?2 belonging to63 taxa was observed. The vegetationsurrounding the sampling point includesornamental, non-ornamental trees, shrubs andherbaceous species. The main pollen types wereCupressaceae, Gramineae, Hamamelidaceae, Pinaceae,Urticaceae, Quercus spp.,Acer spp., Myrtaceae,Caryophyllaceae, Oleaceae,Betulaceae and Plantago spp. thatrepresented 88% of the Porto pollen spectrum.Gramineae, Cupressaceae,Myrtaceae, Oleaceae, Pinaceae andUrticaceae pollen are found throughoutthe year. Concerning total pollenconcentration, the distribution throughout theyear is very irregular, with several annualpeaks, with the maximum concentrationregistered between the end of March and thefirst two weeks of April and the lowestobserved during autumn.  相似文献

Pollen grains in the atmosphere of Bratislava were quantitatively and qualitatively analysed during an 8-year period (2002–2009) using a Burkard volumetric pollen trap. The mean annual total pollen grain count recorded during this period was 36,608, belonging to 34 higher plant taxa (22 trees and/or shrubs and 12 herbaceous species). The maximum annual total pollen grain count (50,563) was recorded in 2003 and the minimum (14,172) in 2009. The taxa contributing the highest concentration of pollen grains were Betula, Urticaceae, Cupressaceae-Taxaceae, Populus, Pinus, Poaceae and Ambrosia. During the study period, there was a remarkable increase in the number of pollen grains from February to April, with the highest daily mean pollen counts recorded in April. Total pollen concentration began to decrease markedly in May, but there was a second increase between July and August, followed by a decrease in September. The timing and length of the pollen seasons varied. Betula and Poaceae showed a rather constant 2-year fluctuating rhythm. The relationships between airborne pollen concentration and meteorological variables were assessed. Based on these results, the first pollen calendar in Slovakia has been constructed for the area of Bratislava, which provides a great deal of useful and important information.  相似文献

A continuous aeropalynologic survey of the atmosphere of La Plata was carried out between July 1998 and June 2001 in order to study flowering development from winter to summer using a Lanzoni volumetric spore trap. The total pollen spectrum was represented by 79 pollen types. Between 10 and 12 pollen types showed a relative concentration of more than 1% of the annual total. Airborne pollen was mainly represented by Platanus, Fraxinus, Cupressaceae, Poaceae, Urticaceae, Cyperaceae, Myrtaceae, Celtis, Casuarina and Morus during the 3-year period. Acer and Ambrosia pollen types were only dominant in the first 2 years. Maximum absolute concentrations were recorded in the the July 1998–June 1999 period, and the minimum concentrations were recorded in the July 2000–June 2001 period. The contribution of the arboreal pollen grains was higher than 68% relative to the annual total for each year. Two periods of maximum pollen emissions were found for each year: pollen from aboreal taxa predominated from July to October, and pollen from herbaceous taxa predominated from November to March. There was very little pollen in the atmosphere between April and June. The maximum arboreal and herbaceous pollen emissions were recorded during hours of daylight: at 10:00 and 14:00 hours.  相似文献

Long-term variation in tree-ring widths (1873–2006) and intra-annual dynamics of cambial activity and tree-ring formation in 2006 were studied in mature beech (Fagus sylvatica L.) trees at a typical forest site near Ljubljana (46°N, 14°40′E, 400 m a.s.l.) and related to leaf phenology and climate data. Tree-ring widths were negatively affected by minimum March and maximum August temperatures and favoured by May and July precipitation. Precipitation of the previous August and temperature of the previous November also had a positive effect. Leaf unfolding was affected by March and April temperatures, occurring later if they were low. Leaf yellowing was positively affected by minimum July temperatures and negatively by September precipitation. In 2006, leaf unfolding occurred on 16 April and was immediately followed by reactivation of cambium at breast height of the trees. One week later, the cambium obtained its maximum width (around 11 cell layers) and the rate of division increased until the end of May/beginning of June. By the end of June, 75% of the tree-ring was formed. Cambial cell divisions stopped from the end of July to mid-August. The average time of cambial activity was 100 days. Leaf yellowing occurred at the end of October, i.e. nearly 2 months after the cessation of cambial cell division. We discuss the usefulness of a combination of long-term (tree-ring width and phenology) and short-term (wood formation at a cellular level) data to understand better the environmental signals registered by a tree during growth.  相似文献

Arrowleaf clover (Trifolium vesiculosum Savi) and annual ryegrass Lolium multiflorum Lam.) commonly are overseeded in dormant bermudagrass (Cynodon dactylon L. Pers.) sod on coastal plain soils in the southeastern United States. Two field experiments were conducted in consecutive years at different sites to estimate the amount of N transferred from the clover to the annual grass. Nitrogen treatments included 50 kg N ha-1 as 15N depleted ammonium nitrate applied in either February or April, and a check (no N applied). Three clippings were made during the cool-season from March to June. In both experiments, less than 5 kg N ha-1 were transferred from the clover to the grass. Ryegrass yields of dry matter and total N were not increased by growing with clover. Clover growth was typical for the region; average dry matter yield in pure stand was 2,615 kg ha-1 over the two-year period. Clover in mixed stand fixed between 20 and 60 kg N/ha. Less than 13% of N contained in ryegrass was transferred from arrowleaf clover to ryegrass at any clipping while clover was actively growing. The quantity of N transferred over the entire season was not statistically significant.  相似文献

Pott J. M., Jpones R. M. and Cornwell R. L. 1978. Observations on parasitic gastroenteritis and bronchitis in grazing calves: untreated calves. International Journal for Parasitology8: 331–339. The epidemiology of parasitic gastroenteritis (p.g.e.) and incidental observations on lungworm infection were studied on two equal-sized paddocks of permanent pasture on a Kent farm in 1970. Groups of 10 Friesian calves were exposed for the first time to each paddock in May and grazed until the end of October. Faeces were monitored, body weights recorded and clinical signs observed. Herbage samples were examined for larvae throughout the year. Five ‘cumulative’ tracer calves exposed at the commencement were removed at monthly intervals and 5 ‘short term’ tracer calves exposed at successive monthly intervals for 1 month were killed for worm counts. A similar pattern of events occurred on both paddocks. Moderate herbage larval levels of Ostertagia and Cooperia fell to almost zero during April/May but rose quickly in July to high levels in August/September. Lower levels continued until the end of the year. Faecal egg excretion began in the test calves at the end of May, showed peaks in July and September and fell to low levels in October. D. viviparus larval excretion occurred in most calves with greater counts on Paddock 2. Clinical signs of p.g.e. complicated by lungworm infection occurred in August/September. Body weight gain which was initially rapid levelled off in June due partly to drought in addition to the parasitic infection. Weight loss occurred in August and there were 2 deaths on Paddock 1 and one on Paddock 2. Survivors gained weight again in September/October.Worm burdens in tracer calves showed quite heavy infections with Ostertagia and Cooperia as early as June/July. Massive infections complicated by lungworm disease accompanied clinical signs and death. There was evidence that aquisition of resistance to Cooperia and Dictyocaulus was acquired more readily than to Ostertagia. Inhibition of development of Ostertagia and Cooperia also became evident at the end of the trial period.  相似文献

Using the proboscis extension response we conditioned pollen and nectar foragers of the honey bee (Apis mellifera L.) to tactile patterns under laboratory conditions. Pollen foragers demonstrated better acquisition, extinction, and reversal learning than nectar foragers. We tested whether the known differences in response thresholds to sucrose between pollen and nectar foragers could explain the observed differences in learning and found that nectar foragers with low response thresholds performed better during acquisition and extinction than ones with higher thresholds. Conditioning pollen and nectar foragers with similar response thresholds did not yield differences in their learning performance. These results suggest that differences in the learning performance of pollen and nectar foragers are a consequence of differences in their perception of sucrose. Furthermore, we analysed the effect which the perception of sucrose reward has on associative learning. Nectar foragers with uniform low response thresholds were conditioned using varying concentrations of sucrose. We found significant positive correlations between the concentrations of the sucrose rewards and the performance during acquisition and extinction. The results are summarised in a model which describes the relationships between learning performance, response threshold to sucrose, concentration of sucrose and the number of rewards. Ropes seeded directly with Saccharina latissima were deployed at different exposures (sheltered, current exposed and wave exposed) in a Faroese sound and characteristics of growth and quality of the biomass and surroundings were evaluated during the growth season from March to August 2015. Saccharina latissima individuals cultivated at the current exposed location were heavier compared to the individuals cultivated at the other locations; however, the total biomass yield was significantly lower at the current exposed location. The protein and nutritional value of the biomass varied with season but showed no correlation with exposure. The highest protein levels and EAA (essential amino acid) score were measured in the spring (April and May) samples. The amino acid composition was dominated by glutamate followed by aspartic acid; however, this was replaced by methionine in the July samples. Total Kjeldahl nitrogen was significantly higher in May and August compared to July, and the nitrate concentration in the biomass was significantly lower in May and August compared to July. Nitrate was most available in the seawater at the time of deployment (3rd of March) and decreased during spring and summer. Saccharina latissima was cultivated successfully at the sheltered, current exposed and wave exposed locations using a direct seeding method. However, our results indicate that the lower biomass yield at the current exposed cultivation location compared to the sheltered and wave exposed are due to the direct seeding method, and possible limitations using this method need further testing and optimization.  相似文献

Quantitative pollen analyses of Moroccan honey samples provided by amateur beekeepers from the Central Rif region demonstrates that nectar is generally the main honey source, and that most honeys have a medium‐low presence of botanical elements. However, two samples reached values as high as 1.08–1.83 qualifying as honeydew honeys. Qualitative results yielded 60 pollen types belonging to 33 families. Ammi visnaga L., Mentha pulegium L., M. rotundifolia (L.) Hudson, Eucalyptus camaldulensis Dehnh. and Rubus ulmifolius Schott. were the main nectar sources, and Cistaceae, Poaceae, Cannabis sativa L. and grasses were exploited as a pollen source. When compared to the parent vegetation honeydew and mint sources are widely exploited, but other sources such as eucalyptus and heather are underutilised.  相似文献

 We studied nectar characteristics during the long flowering period (late June to end of November) in two populations of Linaria vulgaris (L.) Mill. spontaneously growing in the Botanical Gardens of Siena University (Tuscany, central Italy). The two populations were close to each other but they differed in blooming period. Plants of population 1 sprouted in May and flowered from the end of June to the end of September. Population 2 sprouted at the end of August and flowered from September to the end of November. Differences in nectar production and composition were found between and within populations. Flowers of population 1 produced a very small amount of nectar (not collectable) that remained on the nectary surface. The quantity of nectar increased in late September, when each flower produced 2–3 μl of nectar that flowed into the spur. Total sugar concentration was 175.8 mg/ml in young flowers. Flowers of population 2 produced 5–8 μl of nectar with a total sugar concentration of 200.9 mg/ml in the young stage. In bagged senescent flowers nectar volume decreased in both populations and nectar sugar concentration decreased down to 11.6 mg/ml in population 2 and increased up to 289.6 mg/ml in population 1. For both populations, the decrease in nectar volume in bagged flowers may have been due to water loss by evaporation. In population 2, the decrease in sugar concentration may have been due to nectar reabsorption that was never observed in population 1. From April 1977 through June 1978, scuba divers used a double-cup bar-clamp sampler to monitor colonization rates and standing crops of macroinvertebrates on acrylic plates near the rocky bottom of the Susquehanna River in northeastern Pennsylvania. Monthly, bimonthly, and cumulative plates were exposed for about 30, 60, and 124–362 days, respectively.The upper surface of monthly plates was colonized from June through September at rates ranging from 125 organisms/m2/day in June 1978 to 3,200 org/m2/day in August ({xx\-x} = 1,300 org/m2/day). Chironomids (Rheotanytarsus spp.) and hydropsychids (Hydropsyche phalerata and Cheumatopsyche spp.) composed 97% of the total. The lower surface of monthly plates was colonized from May through September at rates ranging from 110 org/m2/day in June 1977 to 760 org/m2/day in May 1977 ({xx\-x} = 260 org/m2/day). Naidids (Nais spp. and Chaetogaster spp.) and chironomids (Nanocladius spp.) composed 89% of the total.Macroinvertebrates remained on cumulative plates after colonization of monthly plates ceased. The upper surface of cumulative plates was inhabited from June through October at densities ranging from 5,800 org/m2 in June 1977 to 78,000 org/m2 in August ({xx\-x} = 40,000 org/m2). Artibeus jamaicensis is a medium-sized frugivorous microchiropteran bat that complements its diet with nectar and pollen during the dry season. We investigated which species of pollen are carried by A. jamaicensis in order to determine its potential role as a plant pollinator in the northern Yucatan Peninsula. We collected pollen from the fur of 192 individuals throughout the year from April 2004 to March 2005. We recorded pollen from nine plant species of eight families and found five unidentified pollen types, with the highest pollen species richness recorded in June. A. jamaicensis moved pollen of Erythrina standleyana and Mimosa bahamensis, which have not hitherto been reported as visited by this species. The most abundant pollen in the samples was found to be that of three tree species: Ceiba pentandra, C. aesculifolia and Lysiloma latisiliquum. Very few samples contained pollen in the rainy season, when the bats fed mainly on fruits. A. jamaicensis can fly several kilometres among foraging locations and dispersed large amounts of pollen from tree species growing near cenotes as well as those not present at cenotes but occurring in other forest fragments, highlighting its importance as a pollen vector among forest fragments in the largely deforested landscape of the Yucatan Peninsula, helping to reduce the negative effects of forest fragmentation. Ceiba appears to benefit from the role of A. jamaicensis as a pollen vector, and the species play an important ecological role in the Yucatán landscape, supplying shade, nectar and fruit for wildlife.  相似文献

The molluscan taxocoenosis associated with a Cymodocea nodosa seagrass bed was studied throughout 1?year in Genoveses Bay, in the MPA “Parque Natural Cabo de Gata-Níjar” (south-eastern Spain). A total of 64,824 individuals were collected and 54 species identified. The molluscan fauna was mainly composed of gastropods (99.56% of individuals, 43 spp.). The families Rissoidae (72.98%, 11 spp.) and Trochidae (16.93%, 7 spp.) were the most abundant and diversified in terms of number of species. Rissoa monodonta (47.1% dominance), Rissoa membranacea (25.1%) and Gibbula leucophaea (11.6%) proved the top dominant species in both diurnal and nocturnal samples. Bivalves (0.41%, 10 species) and cephalopods (0.03%, 1 species) represented only a low percentage of the molluscan taxocoenosis. The molluscan assemblage was mainly composed of species with a wide geographical distribution in Europe, followed by strictly Mediterranean species. The abundance was significantly higher in the cold (December, March) than in the warm months (June, July). Species richness (S) was higher in nocturnal than in diurnal samples, reaching maximal values in diurnal samples of March and June. Shannon–Wiener diversity (H′) values were generally higher in nocturnal samples than in diurnal ones, displaying minimum values in December and June, respectively. Evenness was similar in diurnal and nocturnal samples, with maximum values in July in both groups. S and H′ were also significantly different between diurnal and nocturnal samples. Multivariate analyses based on both qualitative and quantitative data showed a significant seasonal and diel variation. Diel changes revealed to be more distinct than seasonal ones.  相似文献
