We conducted an eradication program from 2002 to 2006 against caprine arthritis-encephalitis (CAE) virus (CAEV) in an important farm that maintained goat breeds and had a high prevalence of CAEV infection. The program did not involve the slaughter and replacement of entire flocks, but rather the prevention of both vertical and horizontal transmission. The program consisted of (1) removal of kids immediately after birth, (2) segregation of each generation, and (3) culling of positive goats in periodical tests. All goats born before 2002 were regarded as infected and grouped into herd A. Kids born during the program were divided into several herds on the basis of CAEV infection risk, raised with calf milk replacer, and periodically tested by polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and the agar gel immunodiffusion (AGID) test. A total of 205 kids were produced from 137 parents in herd A, 92 of which were distinctly infected. Only 11 of the 205 kids were infected with CAEV and were culled. The remaining 194 kids and all other kids born from other herds were negative by PCR and AGID testing throughout the program. The milk yield of primiparous does was significantly increased after the eradication program. These findings indicate that the combine use of isolated and milk-deprived rearing and periodical detection testing are effective in establishing a CAEV-free flock from an infected flock.  相似文献

This study, carried out in three goat herds, was aimed at describing individual responses to Q fever infection in an abortive context, focusing on both antibody and shedding levels. Seroprevalence of Coxiella burnetii (Cb) infection and vaginal shedding of 1083 goats were investigated using ELISA and realtime qPCR assays, respectively. At the end of the outbreaks, a seroprevalence of 45.0% was found, and vaginal shedding appeared massive with levels above 10(4) Cb per swab in 42.3% of the whole population and above 10(6) Cb per swab for 90.9% of aborted goats. Susceptible animals (i.e. seronegative nonshedders) were unfrequent (31.2%), most of them being kids (94.7%). Seronegative females were predominant among nonshedders and conversely seropositive ones, predominant among high shedders (above 10(6) Cb per swab). Nevertheless, at least 43.3% of seronegative goats shed bacteria confirming the need of interpreting serology on a herd scale. The subsequent farrowing period was characterized by a significant reduction in the number of clinical cases. Females that had already aborted were more often involved than others. Shedding quantities remained high, particularly for primiparous does, mainly when facing infection for the first time. Thus, Q fever control must be based on both preventive measures directed to the preherd and environmental precautions.  相似文献

Thirty-six West African Dwarf (WAD) goats were used to assess the effects of an experimental Trypanosoma congolense infection on their reproductive system. Estrous cycles were synchronised and when confirmed pregnant (n = 31), the does were randomly allocated into control and trypanosome-infected groups. After infection, the animals were carefully observed till parturition. Trypanosome infection caused an increase of rectal temperature, a significant drop in PCV (infected: 23.3 +/- 0.3%; control: 28.5 +/- 0.4%; P < 0.0001) and abortions in 27.8% of the infected does. Kids born from infected does had a lower birth weight than kids born from control goats (0.9 +/- 0.1 kg versus 1.6 +/- 0.1 kg; P < 0.0001). Eight out of 13 kids (61.5%) that were born alive from infected does died during their first week of life. Plasma pregnancy-associated glycoprotein (PAG) and progesterone concentrations were lower in the infected animals than in the controls. In general, PAG concentration in does which aborted dropped before abortion. Our results revealed that artificial T. congolense infection affected reproductive performance of WAD goats with abortions, premature births and perinatal losses being observed. Neither transplacental transmission of T. congolense nor histopathological lesions of the placenta could be demonstrated.  相似文献

Recently, a new member of the Bluetongue virus (BTV) serogroup named Toggenburg Orbivirus (TOV) in goats from Switzerland has been described. The epidemiology and host range of TOV are currently unknown. Since TOV causes cross-reactions in laboratory tests used for BTV diagnosis, this study was carried out in order to determine the spatial and temporal spread of TOV. Therefore, serum samples from a national survey in goats, collected during winter and spring 2008 in Switzerland, were serologically examined. Additionally, cattle and sheep from holdings with seropositive goats were tested for the presence of viral RNA and antibodies against BTV and TOV. All goat samples analysed within routine diagnostics at the Institute of Virology and Immunoprophylaxis from 2008 to 2009 were also tested for the presence of TOV. Finally, goat sera collected 1998 in the Canton of Ticino (TI) were analysed.Although the TOV index cases had been identified in flocks north of the Alps, no additional TOV-positive herds were found by serological testing in this region. In contrast, south of the Alps, i.e. in the Canton of Ticino (TI), an apparent seroprevalence of 49% in goats was found at animal and 60% at herd level. In the eastern and western part of the Swiss Alps 15.2% and 10% of tested goats were serologically positive, respectively. A within-herd prevalence of up to 100% was found in some of the positive flocks. The positive flocks in TI were mainly found in three of the five districts, but seropositive animals were identified in each district. Certain selected seropositive flocks were investigated virologically. By RT-qPCR and genome sequencing, the presence of TOV could be confirmed in all investigated seropositive flocks.By testing the goats within routine diagnostics, TOV genome was detected in one goat showing BT-like clinical symptoms from the central Alps and in three healthy animals imported from Germany.Although 3.8% of the sheep from flocks with TOV-positive goats or in contact with these animals showed a positive antibody reaction, TOV-specific RNA was not found in any of the tested sheep and also not in cattle from flocks with TOV-positive goats.Serological and virological test results from archived Swiss goat samples collected in 1998 indicated the presence of TOV already at that time, prior to any Bluetongue disease outbreak in this part of Europe. The results of this study demonstrate that TOV is widespread in certain parts of Switzerland and suggests that this virus has been present in the goat population for at least a decade, albeit without causing any disease signs.  相似文献

The prevalence and intensity of oocysts of coccidia, particularly Eimeria species, and eggs of gastrointestinal nematodes in kids (2–4 months), young goats (5–12 months) and adult goats (>1 year) were determined in five large herds managed extensively in five villages in the dry zone. Of the representative samples examined, oocysts were found in 88% of kids, 91% of young goats and 83% of adults. Seven species of Eimeria were identified in faecal samples by salt flotation. Eimeria ninakohlyakimovae (31%), E. alijevi (29%) and E. arloingi (21%) were the most common species in all age categories. Other species encountered were E. christenseni (7%), E. jolchijevi (6%), E. hirchi (3%) and E. aspheronica (1%). Gastrointestinal nematode eggs were found in 89% of the kids, 94% of the young goats and 84% of the adult goats. Identification of gastrointestinal nematodes revealed Haemonchus contortus (90%) followed by Oesophogostomum spp. (8.5%) and Trichostrongylus spp. (1%) in all three age categories examined. Both Eimeria and gastrointestinal nematodes were found in 77% of the kids, 86% of the young goats and 71% of adult goats. The mean oocyst counts per gram of faeces in kids, young goats and adult goats were 9728, 1946, and 2667, respectively. The oocyst counts were not different significantly between age groups (P>0.05). The mean egg counts per gram of faeces in kids, young goats and adult goats were 1217, 1641 and 1092, respectively. The egg counts in kids were significantly lower than that in young goats (P<0.05). The intensity of Eimeria and gastrointestinal nematode infections between herds were significantly different (P<0.01).  相似文献

Serological examinations for Gorynebacterium pseudotuberculosis in-fection were carried out in 14 known positive herds and in 1 herd that had beeni recently established through purchase of animals from different herds. Serum samples were collected sequentially on up to 4 occasions from animals during their first year of life. In most herds, these animals were examined clinically for superficial swellings once or twice during the same period. The adult goats in 8 infected herds were examined both clinically and serologically. Age distribution was similar in each of these herds. All serum samples were examined for antibodies against Gorynebac-terium pseudotuberculosis in both the bacterial agglutination test (BAT) and the hemolysis inhibition test (HIT). The proportion of kids which were seropositive in both tests de-creased to zero at 4 months of age. At the age of 11–12 months, the proportion of seropositive animals was about 50 % in the BAT and 30 % in the HIT. When examined when housed for the winter at the age of about 8 months (mean age), the prevalence of animals with superficial swellings was 7 %. At the age of about 1 year (mean age), 29 % of the examined animals had such lesions. In the recently established herd, only a few of the yearlings were seropositive. Titre values in BAT and HIT increased until 6 years of age. Anti-body titre values were significantly lower in yearlings than in older goats in both tests, P < 0.005. No significant difference in the propor-tion of goats with superficial swellings was seen at the different ages.  相似文献

ABSTRACT. Eleven female goats (Nos. 1 to 11) were each inoculated orally with 104 sporocysts of Sarcocystis capracanis, and four female goats (Nos. 12 to 15) were not inoculated. Between 31 and 69 days after inoculation (DAI) goats were mated with a single buck; one goat (No. 5) did not breed. Eight inoculated goats were challenged with 105or 106 sporocysts, 135 DAI. Two of four goats challenged with 106 sporocysts and one of three goats challenged with 105 sporocysts aborted one month before the expected time of parturition. The three inoculated goats that were not challenged delivered healthy kids. All inoculated goats including the nonpregnant one (No. 5) were only mildly ill from the primary or challenge inoculations. Two of the four control goats challenged with 5 × 104 or 105 sporocysts aborted 21 days later, and both died of sarcocystosis 25 and 88 DAI. The two remaining control goats delivered normal kids. The results indicate that immunization prior to pregnancy protects some but not all goats from .Sarc0c.es/is-induced abortion.  相似文献

Congenital Neospora caninum infection was diagnosed in two Saanen goat kids from two distinct herds with a history of abortion and weak newborn goat kids in the Southern region of the State of Minas Gerais, Brazil. The first kid was weak at birth, had difficulty to rise and was unable to nurse. Gross lesions of porencephaly and hydrocephalus ex vacuo were seen. Multifocal necrosis, gliosis and non-supurative encephalitis were observed in the brain. Several parasitic cysts with a thick wall that reacted strongly only with polyclonal antiserum to Neospora caninum were seen in the cerebral cortex, brain stem and cerebellum. The second kid was born from a Neospora caninum seropositive mother that aborted in the last pregnancy. It was born without clinical signs. The diagnosis of neosporosis was based on antibody titer of 1:800 to N. caninum by indirect fluorescence antibody test obtained from blood collected before the goat kid ingested the colostrum and Neospora caninum DNA was detected by polymerase chain reaction and sequenced from placenta. This is the first report of neosporosis in goats in the southeast region of Brazil.  相似文献

Background

Q fever, a worldwide zoonotic disease caused by Coxiella burnetii, is endemic in northern Spain where it has been reported as responsible for large series of human pneumonia cases and domestic ruminants' reproductive disorders. To investigate pathogen exposure among domestic ruminants in semi-extensive grazing systems in northern Spain, a serosurvey was carried out in 1,379 sheep (42 flocks), 626 beef cattle (46 herds) and 115 goats (11 herds). Serum antibodies were analysed by ELISA and positive samples were retested by Complement Fixation test (CFT) to detect recent infections.  相似文献

Herds of feral goats are present along the high ground of the Scottish Borders at the College, Hindhope, Kielderhead Moor (the study area), Bewcastle Fell and Roan Fell.
In the study area the nannies remained solitary, or in the company of their yearlings on the steep ground below the high moor throughout the winter. After the birth of their kids in March two female herds were formed each with a herd billy which came from the two male herds which were present through the winter on the high moor. The male herds left the study area in the spring and their ranges are not known. The two female herds maintained separate ranges on the high moor until the end of August when they combined into one large herd and were joined by a strange herd of billies which had not previously been seen.
After the first three or four days of its life the kid is left in a hiding place for most of the day whilst its mother ranges widely grazing with the herd. The kids join the herd when they are about six weeks old.
The Kielderhead Moor goats had a recruitment rate of 0–29/nanny/year and the females have a further expectation of life of 3–7 years. Figures for the billies are unreliable as disappearances of males from the moor are more likely to be the result of emigration than of deaths. While the herds of nannies have fairly restricted home ranges there is some evidence to suggest that many of the billies wander freely along the Borders.
In the early part of the summer the sheep and goats are eating very similar proportions of the plants present on the moor. Later on in the season there is a divergence with the sheep eating less Calluna while the goats eat less Eriophorum , but as the Trichophorum becomes available both animals include this in their diet.  相似文献

The response to the male effect was studied in two flocks of Saanen and three of Alpine goats during deep anoestrus in three consecutive years. Males and females were subjected to artificially long days for about 3 months (between December 4 and April 1) followed by a natural photoperiod. Bucks joined goats 42-63 days after the end of the long days treatment (between April 20 and June 3) and fertilisation was ensured by natural mating. In experiment 1 (n=248), female goats were treated or untreated with melatonin at the end of the long days treatment and treated or untreated for 11 days with fluorogestone acetate (FGA) before teasing. The males received melatonin implants. In experiment 2 (n=337), the factor studied was the association or non-association of the 11-day FGA treatment. Neither males nor females received melatonin implants. In experiment 3 (n=180), goats were treated for 11 days with FGA or with natural progesterone (CIDR). Neither males nor females received melatonin implants. In experiment 1, among the non-cycling goats (n=218), 99% ovulated and 81% kidded at 161+/-8 days after joining. Ninety-two percent of FGA-treated goats displayed an LH surge at 65+/-11h after teasing. Melatonin treatment did not affect any parameter but FGA advanced the kidding date. In experiment 2, 94% of the goats ovulated and 87% kidded. A major peak of conception was observed on days 3 and 8 after joining in FGA-treated and untreated goats, respectively. Among the FGA-treated goats, 83% displayed an LH surge. Over all flocks, most of the LH surges occurred over a 24-36 h interval, but the surge was initiated at different times in different flocks (36, 48 or 60 h after joining). FGA treatment did not influence the results, except for advancement of births of about 5 days. Differences among flocks were highly significant. In experiment 3, 94% of the goats displayed the LH surge, 93% ovulated and 68% kidded. Significant differences were found among flocks, but not between the FGA and CIDR groups. Bucks marked 85% of the goats 24-72 h after joining. The time interval between the detection of marked goats and detection of the LH surge depended on the time of marking (r=-0.62; p<0.05). In conclusion, treatment of both males and females goats with artificially long days followed by a natural photoperiod is very effective in inducing highly synchronous and fertile reproductive activity via the male effect in the middle of seasonal anoestrus.  相似文献

The fertility rate for goats following artificial insemination (AI) is usually analyzed according to herd or treatment groups. However, these general information are insufficient to allow identification of specific factors which affect this individual reproductive performance. In the present experiment 640 dairy goats were used to analyze to what extent the interval from sponge removal to estrus affects the results of AI, performed at a predetermined time following sponge removal. Estrus occurred in 98.1% of experimental animals between 24 and 72 hours after sponge removal. The fertility rate was lower for goats that came into estrus later than 30 hours after sponge removal (33.3%, n = 108 than for goats that exhibited estrus earlier (65.0%, n = 520; P<0.001). The occurrence of late estrus is not age dependent, but it increases with the number of treatments that an individual animal has previously received. These results show that the low fertility rate observed in some herds after synchronization of estrus and AI may be related to the high proportion of goats with a late occurrence of estrus, and this phenomenon increases in animals that are treated repeatedly.  相似文献

Cloned kids derived from caprine mammary gland epithelial cells   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1
The use of nucleus transfer techniques to generate transgenic dairy goats capable of producing recombinant therapeutic proteins in milk could have a major impact on the pharmaceutical industry. However, transfection or gene targeting of nucleus transfer donor cells requires a long in vitro culture period and the selection of marker genes. In the current study, we evaluated the potential for using caprine mammary gland epithelial cells (CMGECs), isolated from udders of lactating F1 hybrid goats (Capra hircus) and cryopreserved at Passages 24 to 26, for nucleus transfer into enucleated in vivo-matured oocytes. Pronuclear-stage reconstructed embryos were transferred into the oviducts of 31 recipient goats. Twenty-three (74%), 21 (72%), and 14 (48%) recipients were confirmed pregnant by ultrasonography on Days 30, 60, and 90, respectively. Four recipients aborted between 35 and 137 d of gestation. Five recipients carried the pregnancies to term and delivered one goat kid each, one of which subsequently died due to respiratory difficulties. The remaining four goat kids were healthy and well. Single-strand conformation polymorphism analysis confirmed that all kids were clones of the donor cells. In conclusion, the CMGECs remained totipotent for nucleus transfer.  相似文献

The objectives of this study were to investigate whether the use of intravaginal sponge for estrous synchronization of goats causes oxidative stress, and to examine the effect of administering vitamin E during preovulatory period on reproductive performance of estrous synchronized goats. Estrus was synchronized in 36 non-lactating adult does using intravaginal sponges containing 30 mg of fluorogestane acetate (FGA) for 14 days. All females received 500 IU of eCG at the sponge withdrawal. The goats were allocated at random to two groups balanced for breed, age and body weight. Treatment group (n=18) received 200mg of vitamin E i.m. at the time of sponge removal and again at the time of second artificial insemination. The other 18 goats (control) were administered 1 ml of physiological saline instead of vitamin E on each of these two occasions. All does in estrus was intracervically inseminated at 12 and 24h after the onset of estrus. Blood samples were collected every 72h during the experimental period for evaluation of malondialdehyde (MDA) and vitamin E concentrations. Serum MDA level increased and vitamin E concentration decreased during the period of vaginal sponge application. Following the sponge removal, MDA level declined rapidly to below basal level in the treatment group but remained high in the control group. Conversely, vitamin E concentration increased in the treatment group after the sponge withdrawal and remained at a low level in the control group. No statistically significant differences (P>0.05) were observed between groups in terms of estrous response, conception rate, gestation length or kidding rate. However, the number of multiple births (70.0% versus 50.0%) and prolificacy rate (2.40+/-0.37 versus 1.63+/-0.26 kids per kidding) were significantly higher (P<0.05) for the treatment group than those of the control group. The results indicate that the use of intravaginal sponges for estrous synchronization of goats causes an increase in level of oxidative stress. However, the vitamin E treatment during preovulatory period can prevent the overproduction of reactive oxygen species (ROS), and it may improve the multiple birth rates and the number of kids born in estrous synchronized goats.  相似文献

Thirteen goat herds and seven sheep flocks in the state of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil were screened for leptospirosis. From the three herds and three flocks with greatest seroreactivity, 19 goats (16 females and three bucks) and 40 sheep (26 ewes and 14 rams) that were seropositive (specific anti-Leptospira titres > or =400, based on a microscopic agglutination test), were selected for more detailed studies. From those animals, samples of vaginal fluids or semen were collected for bacteriological and molecular assays. For both species of animals, the most prevalent reactions were to serovars Hardjo, Shermani, and Grippotyphosa. Although leptospires were detected by darkfield microscopy in three vaginal fluid samples (from two goats and one ewe), pure isolates were not obtained by bacteriological culture of vaginal fluids or semen. However, seven vaginal fluid samples (from four goats and three ewes) and six semen samples (all from rams) were positive on polymerase chain reaction (PCR). Based on these findings, in addition to analogous findings in cattle, we inferred that there is potential for venereal transmission of leptospirosis in small ruminants.  相似文献

Although exposure to cyanogenic plants or cyanide during pregnancy has adverse effects, no teratological study with cyanide has been conducted in goats or any other ruminant. The objective of the present study was to evaluate the effects of the maternal exposure to potassium cyanide (KCN) during pregnancy on both dams and offspring and furthermore, to develop a model for prenatal toxicological studies in ruminants. Twenty-six pregnant goats were allocated into four groups and given 0, 1.0, 2.0, or 3.0mg KCN/kg body weight per day orally (administered via twice-daily gavage) from Day 24 of pregnancy to term. However, one control dam and another from the 3.0mg KCN/kg per day group were sacrificed on Day 120. At birth, the kids were examined carefully for gross abnormalities. Three months after birth, the male kids and one dam from each group were sacrificed for histopathological study. Although clinical signs of poisoning were observed in dams, cyanide treatment did not alter the length of gestation or the number of live kids. Two prognata kids were born in the 3.0mg KCN/kg group, and one dam from the same group aborted two fetuses. There were histological lesions only in the KCN-treated dam (and its fetuses) sacrificed on Day 120; these consisted of an increased number of resorption vacuoles of thyroid follicular colloid, and status spongiosis of nervous white matter. This study proposes a new animal model for teratogenic trials that could be important to evaluate the effects of chemicals throughout pregnancy in goats and potentially other ruminants.  相似文献

Serum samples from 1133 dairy cows (187 herds), 3712 ewes (103 flocks) and 1317 adult pigs (877 herds), were tested for neutralizing antibodies against the NADL strain of bovine virus diarrhoea virus. The prevalence rate of seropositive animals was 18.5% in cattle, 4.5% in sheep and 2.2% in pigs, such seroreactors being found in 28 % of the cattle herds and 18 % of the sheep flocks. In all three species the rate showed considerable herd and geographical variation. In cattle the seroreactor rate was similar in herds with normal reproduction and in 62 herds with problems of repeat breeding. Of 31 pig sera containing antibodies against the NADL strain, 27 were also positive in a neutralization test for antibodies against swine fever virus (Baker strain). However, all sera showed a higher titre of antibodies against the bovine strain than against the swine fever virus. It was concluded that the immune response of the pigs had been induced by ruminant pestivirus, and not by swine fever virus.  相似文献

Superovulation treatments and embryo transfer in Angora goats   总被引:17,自引:0,他引:17
A high incidence of early luteal regression after PMSG superovulation was associated with low recovery of embryos from reproductive tracts of Angora goats flushed later than Day 5 after onset of oestrus. Embryos were successfully recovered (mean 7.9/female) by flushing on Days 2-5. Mean ovulation rate after an FSH regimen (16.1 +/- 0.8) was significantly higher than that after a single injection of PMSG (10.8 +/- 1.2). Fertilization rate and survival of embryos following transfer to naturally synchronized recipient feral goats did not differ between the two gonadotrophin regimens: the mean number of kids born to 47 donors treated with FSH (7.5 +/- 0.6) was significantly greater than that to 28 donors treated with PMSG (4.8 +/- 0.6). Irrespective of hormonal treatment, the numbers of embryos recovered and of kids born were correlated with ovulation rate (r = 0.82, P less than 0.001 for both). Embryo survival was influenced by ovulation rate in recipients, with 52%, 63% and 75% of transferred embryos being carried to term by recipients with 1,2 and 3 CL, respectively (P less than 0.01). More embryos survived (65%) when 2 embryos were transferred to each recipient than when 1 (51%) or 3 (48%) were transferred. In recipients receiving 2 embryos, survival was significantly improved by transfer of both embryos to the same oviduct (70%) than when one was transferred to each oviduct (62%). The percentage survival of embryos was optimal when oestrus of recipients was synchronized within +/- 1 day of oestrus in donors.  相似文献

This paper aims to explore farmers’ preferences for sheep or goats based on feeding practices, animal and flock performances and economic benefits of sheep and goats in different agro-ecological zones in Central Java, Indonesia. In total, 150 smallholder farmers were selected from three agro-ecological zones: the lowlands, the middle zone, and the uplands. Feeding and performance parameters were estimated through weekly farm visits and farm records, from September 2001 to August 2003. In the lowlands, small ruminants were fed mainly with field grass and crop residues, whereas in the middle zone and uplands feeds fed were mainly field grass and leaves. Sheep were given more opportunities to graze than goats, however, grazing was not a major component in the diets. In the lowlands and the middle zone the differences in feed intakes, ADG and reproductive performances between sheep and goats were small. In all zones, does had significantly larger litters than ewes. In the uplands, goats had a significantly higher DMI, grew slightly faster, and had a higher weaning rate than sheep. Consequently, in the uplands, the total economic benefits from goat flocks were 25% higher than from sheep flocks. The major differences in agro-ecological conditions that affect the choice for sheep or goats were the availability of cassava peels in the lowlands, favouring a choice for sheep, and the abundance of leaves in the middle zone and uplands, which favours keeping goats. The promotion of goats by the government, the family tradition of keeping sheep or goats, the preference for sacrificing sheep for religious festivities, and the high initial investment needed to buy goat breeding stock could be other important motives to keep sheep or goats. Sheep fattening based on rice bran supplementation could be a feasible innovation in the lowlands. In the middle zone and uplands goat breeding could make a positive contribution to rural livelihoods.  相似文献

The effect of environmental factors on preweaning survival rate of Arsi-Bale and Borana kids at the Adami Tulu Agricultural Research Center, was investigated. Data collected on 702 kids born between 1999 and 2003 were used to evaluate the effect of year, parity, breed type, sex, season of birth, litter size and birth weight on survival rate of the goats. All the environmental factors significantly influenced the survival rate of kids. The overall preweaning survival rate of kids averaged 69%. Survival of the Arsi-Bale kids was 75% while it was 57% for the Borana kids. Survival of single (70%) and twin (70%) born kids were high compared to survival rate of triplets (43%). Kids born during the wet season had better survivability than kids born in the other seasons. Kidding occurring in the early dry season (September–November) had the highest mortality rate of 42%. A maximum survival rate was found from kids with 3.1–4.5 kg of live weight at birth. The study indicated that by instituting adequate management improvement actions in addition to selection for larger kids at birth and at weaning, the productivity of goats could be improved.  相似文献
