Consumer Sustainability Consciousness: A five dimensional construct

This paper examines consumer triggers towards sustainable consumption behaviours, proposing Consumer Sustainability Consciousness as a new construct that allows us to understand what drives the conscious consumption of sustainable products and services, in an integrated “Triple Bottom Line” perspective.Consumer Sustainability Consciousness is proposed as a five-dimensional construct involving: Sense of Retribution; Access to Information; Labelling and Peer Pressure; Health Issues; and Crisis Scenario. The proposed construct was defined using the C-OAR-SE procedure and measured and validated using both Exploratory and Confirmatory Factor Analysis. As a result, a 19-item scale is proposed to measure Consumer Sustainability Consciousness; theoretical and practical implications of the study are also discussed.     

Brain stem insufficiency in acute ischemia and cerebral hemorrhage]

Consciousness disorders are closely related to the general dysfunction of the brain stem, and called by some authors brain stem insufficiency. To evaluate the degree of brain stem dysfunction, an original scale has been elaborated. Each group of brain stem functions are scored. Consciousness being the most important symptom of the brain stem insufficiency is scored about 50% in a 63-score scale. Scores are used to achieve the most objectivity in the clinical monitoring of the brain stem insufficiency. Its utility was examined in 75 patients with either ischemia or cerebral hemorrhage. Patients of both groups with severe insufficiency below 33 scores and persisting over 24 hours had no chance to survive. The authors suggest that the scores may successfully be used in the clinical monitoring of all disorders producing consciousness disturbances. Survival of patients with brain stem insufficiency in the course of cerebral ischemia or hemorrhage depends on the degree and duration of the brain stem insufficiency.

Lung volumes during +Gz acceleration and the effects of positive pressure breathing and chest counter-pressure

The advent of agile fast jet aircraft has initiated the research and development of enhanced systems to protect man against high +Gz acceleration. As part of such an enhanced system, the breathing of a pressurised gas mixture under +Gz is likely to become routine during the next decade in many of the world's air forces. This procedure, termed positive pressure breathing for G protection (PBG), typically uses breathing pressures of up to 65 mmHg in order to elevate intra-thoracic arterial blood pressure. In this way the fall in head level arterial blood pressure under +Gz acceleration is minimised. Consciousness is therefore preserved, with the aim of reducing the incidence of G Induced Loss of Consciousness (G-LOC). The aim of the research reported here is to assess the viability of the experimental technique and to gather preliminary data on the changes in lung volume subdivisions under PBG (specifically VC, ERV and the VC/ERV ratio).

"Making Twos": Pairing as an Alternative to the Taxonomic Mode of Representation

Melpa-speaking children do very poorly on cognitive tasks, in general, and as compared to children from another traditional society in Papua New Guinea. Causes for this difference are sought in an analysis of the tasks which shows them to require a taxonomic strategy for successful performance and in an analysis of the folk taxonomies of the respective societies which shows them to vary in complexity. Further study of Melpa representation reveals that this can better be represented as a pairing rather than a taxonomizing tendency This finding allows a reinterpretation of the cognitive task results . Consciousness, its criteria and the possible mechanisms]

Consciousness is characterized by the objective and subjective criteria. Accordingly, this is the ability to operation with knowledge, its transmission to other people in abstract form and the feeling of "ego" as a subject of these actions. Objective and subjective signs of the consciousness are provided with the mechanism based on the synthesis of information coming from organs of sensation extracted from memory and coming from the centers of emotions and motivations. As a result of this synthesis the sensation of "ego", appears, and information estranged from it and offered for others is determined. An important role in the informational synthesis is played by the dynamic cortical structures--foci of interaction. In the process of perception they are localized mostly in projective zones of analyzers, at thinking--in associative zones of the cortex. Realization is closely connected with communication and formation of foci of interaction in the verbal zones of the left hemisphere.
