The anatomy and histology of the adult Argas (Persicargas) arboreus central nervous system are described and compared with these properties in other ticks. The single, integrated, central nerve mass (CNM) is formed by a fused supra-esophageal part (protocerebrum, cheliceral ganglia, palpal ganglia, and stomodeal pons) and a subesophageal part (4 pairs of pedal ganglia and the complex opisthosomatic ganglion). Single peripheral nerves (pharyngeal and recurrent) and paired peripheral nerves (compound protocerebral, cheliceral, palpal, pedal and opisthosomatic) extend from the CNM to body organs and appendages. Optic nerves, described in other Argas species, are not found in A. (P.) arboreus. Histologically, the CNM is enclosed by a thin-walled periganglionic blood sinus and invested by a collagenous neural lamella followed by a perineurial layer composed of glial cells and containing fine reticular spaces, a cortical layer of association, motor and neurosecretory cell bodies and glial cells, and inner neuropile regions of fiber tracts forming 5 horizontal levels of connectives and commissures.  相似文献

Conducting pathways of the dog solar plexus were studied by recording action potentials from its nerves. The splanchnic nerves are composed of two groups of fast-conducting afferent A fibers (with conduction velocities of 12–15 and 25–56 m/sec), slowly conducting afferent C fibers (0.4–2.0 m/sec), and preganglionic B and C fibers (1.0–12.0 m/sec). Afferent A and C fibers from peripheral nerves run without interruption through the ganglia of the solar plexus, splanchnic nerves, and sympathetic chain and they enter the spinal cord in the composition of the dorsal roots. Cell bodies of A fibers are located in the spinal ganglia, those of the C fibers below the ganglia of the solar plexus, evidently in the walls of the internal organs. Peripheral nerves contain A fibers only with very low conduction velocities (13–20 m/sec) and no fast-conducting A fibers (25–56 m/sec) were found. Preganglionic fibers terminate synaptically on neurons of the ganglia of the solar plexus whose axons run in the peripheral nerves to the internal organs. Synaptic pathways run from some peripheral nerves of the solar plexus into others through its ganglia; in all probability these pathways participate in peripheral reflex arcs.A. A. Presented are data on distribution of afferent fibers from tentacular and labial nerves innervating chemosensory tentacular organs, lips, and mouth area in the cerebral ganglia of terrestrial pulmonary snails are in the article. By using Golgi impregnation and infusion of cobalt chloride and nickel, it has been shown that most terminal branches of afferent fibers of all chemosensory organs are located in several symmetric areas of both metacerebrums. A part of fibers both of tentacular and of labial nerves form peculiar tracts and terminate in the interior neuropil of procerebrums. In metacerebrums, various neurons providing connections with afferent fibers of chemosensory organs are revealed. Many of them also innervate interior neuropil and procerebrum cell bodies area. The data obtained allow considering procerebrums as higher integrative centers of chemosensory information.  相似文献

The presence of calcitonin-gene related peptide (CGRP)-like immunoreactivity (-LI) in sensory neurons was established by immunohistochemistry and radioimmunoassay (RIA) in combination with high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC). CGRP-immunoreactive (-IR) nerve fibres were present in many peripheral organs including heart, ureter, uterus and gall bladder of guinea-pig and man. The distribution of CGRP-IR nerves in the dorsal horn of the spinal cord, of positive cell bodies in thoracic spinal and nodose ganglia and nerves in peripheral organs was closely related to that of substance P-LI. Double staining experiments revealed that in most cases peripheral CGRP-IR nerve terminals also contained SP-LI. However, different localization of SP- and CGRP-IR neurons was observed in the nucleus of the solitary tract as well as in the ventral horn of the spinal cord. In the heart, CGRP-IR nerves were associated with myocardial cells (mainly atria), coronary vessels, local parasympathetic ganglia as well as with the epi- and endocardia. Three to 4-fold higher levels of native CGRP-LI were observed in the atria than in the ventricles of the heart. HPLC analysis revealed that the major peak of CGRP-LI in the heart of rat and man had the same retention times as the synthetic equivalents. Systemic capsaicin pretreatment and adult guinea-pigs caused a loss of CGRP-IR terminals in the dorsal horn of the spinal cord as well as in peripheral organs including the heart. After capsaicin treatment, the content of CGRP-IR was reduced by 70% in the heart and by 60% in the dorsal part of the spinal cord. In superfusion experiments with slices from the rat spinal cord, a release of CGRP-LI was induced by 60 mM K+ and 3 microM capsaicin in a calcium-dependent manner.  相似文献

Summary The occurrence and distribution of peptidergic nerves in the guinea pig uterus was studied by means of immunocytochemistry using numerous neuropeptide antisera. Neuropeptide Y (NPY)-immunoreactive (IR) nerves were the most abundant, whereas substance P (SP)-, calcitonine gene-related peptide (CGRP)-, and neurokinin A (NKA)-IR nerves were less frequent, and peptide histidine isoleucine (PHI)-IR nerves were the most sparse. Chemical sympathectomy by means of 6-hydroxydopamine, and capsaicin treatment revealed the division of the peptidergic nerves into three separate populations: (1) NPY-IR nerves, which co-existed with adrenergic nerves, (2) SP-, CGRP-and NKA-IR nerves, which mutually co-existed, and (3) PHI-IR nerves. Parallel-running adrenergic/NPY-IR and SP-IR nerves could be found with very similar although not completely identical morphological appearance. Paracervical ganglia contained neurotensin-and dynorphin A-IR cell bodies in addition to cell bodies with immunoreactivities similar to those in prevertebral ganglia. Combined retrograde tracing with True blue and immunocytochemistry showed that the adrenergic and NPY-IR uterine nerves originate in paracervical and prevertebral ganglia. In the prevertebral ganglia the cellular origin was the same for adrenergic and NPY-IR nerves. In contrast, SP-, CGRP-,and NKA-IR nerves originated in dorsal root ganglia. At full-term pregnancy all the neuropeptide immunoreactivities had vanished, probably reflecting a fetus-induced general nerve degeneration.  相似文献

The dissection of nerves and ganglia anatomically related to the pelvic organs revealed one inferior mesenteric ganglion, two testicular ganglia, two hypogastric nerves, two pelvic ganglia and two pelvic nerves. The histochemical demonstration of catecholamines by a glyoxylic acid fluorescence method revealed a rich sympathetic innervation in the ductus deferens, in the three segments of the prostate and in the convoluted ductuli efferentes. The testis, epididymis and all three pairs of bulbourethral glands presented fluorescent nerve fibers only around blood vessels. Removal of the inferior mesenteric and testicular ganglia, and hypogastric neurectomy with our without ligature and sectioning of testicular arteries, had no effect on the density of the nonvascular fluorescent fibers. Removal of the periprostatic tissue caused complete denervation of the prostate and marked denervation of the ductuli efferentes and ductus deferens. Small ganglia containing fluorescent nerve cell bodies were found close to the capsule of the prostate. The results indicate that short adrenergic neurons are responsible for the sympathetic innervation of the reproductive organs of the male opossum.  相似文献

Pituitary adenylate cyclase-activating peptide (PACAP) is a novel vasoactive intestinal peptide (VIP)-like peptide isolated from ovine hypothalamus. It is present in neuronal elements of a number of peripheral organs. We have examined whether PACAP occurs in the gill arch of Carassius auratus L. in which our recent studies have shown the presence of VIP-like peptide. Immunohistochemistry has revealed PACAP-like immunoreactivity in the anterior branches of the post-trematic glossopharyngeal and vagus nerves. PACAP-immunoreactive nerve cell bodies and fibers are present in connective tissue on the oral side of the gill arch. Colocalization studies carried out by the application of double immunofluorescence show that a PACAP-like peptide coexists with VIP in the same nerve cell bodies and fibers. The localization pattern of PACAP in the gill arch of goldfish suggests its possible involvement in the regulation of secretory activities.  相似文献

This work demonstrates that in vitro sciatic nerves of normal and trembler adult mice can use ketone bodies (beta-hydroxybutyrate and acetoacetate) and butyrate for lipid synthesis. In normal sciatic nerves, beta-hydroxybutyrate is incorporated in total lipids to a larger extent than acetoacetate (141% and 33%, respectively, of acetate incorporation), whereas for trembler sciatic nerves, these percentages are only 69% and 27%. Incorporation of ketone bodies is greater into sterols than into other lipids. Lipid metabolism of ketone bodies in trembler nerves is altered and could reflect a process similar to Wallerian degeneration: a dramatic decrease of sterol and free fatty acid synthesis and an increased synthesis of triglycerides. Moreover, differences seen in precursor incorporation into lipids between normal and trembler sciatic nerves suggest that their lipid metabolism is not the same.  相似文献

Pancreatic polypeptide-like immunoreactivity (PPLI) has been localized in nerves of the guinea-pig stomach and intestine with the use of antibodies raised against avian, bovine and human pancreatic polypeptide (PP), the C-terminal hexapeptide of mammalian PP, and against the related peptide, NPY. Each of the antibodies revealed the same population of neurones. Reactive cell bodies were found in both myenteric (5% of all neurones) and submucous ganglia (26% of all neurones) of the small intestine, and varicose processes were observed in the myenteric plexus, circular muscle, mucosa and around arterioles. The nerves were unaffected by bilateral subdiaphragmatic truncal vagotomy, but the staining of the periarterial nerves disappeared after treatment of animals with reserpine or 6-hydroxydopamine and was also absent after mesenteric nerves had been cut and allowed to degenerate. Vascular nerves showing immunoreactivity for dopamine beta-hydroxylase and PPLI had the same distribution. It is concluded that PPLI is located in periarterial noradrenergic nerves. However, other noradrenergic nerves in the intestine do not show PPLI, and PPLI also occurs in nerves that are not noradrenergic. Analysis of changes in the distribution of terminals after microsurgical lesions of pathways in the small intestine showed that processes of myenteric PP-nerve cells provide terminals in the underlying circular muscle and in myenteric ganglia up to about 2 mm more anal. Submucous PP-cell bodies provide terminals to the mucosa.  相似文献

Histochemical method of KARNOWSKY and ROOTS (1964) was used to discover the AChE-positive nerves. These nerve fibres were found in all layers of all organs under study. The ureter was weakly innervated, while the urinary bladder and the urethra possessed strong AChE-positive innervation. AChE-positive fibres were most abundant in the bladder trigone. Muscular membrane was the best supplied layer, both in the urinary bladder and in the urethra. Part of AChE-positive nerves was connected with the blood vessels in all organs under discussion.  相似文献

Immunocytochemistry and radioimmunochemistry demonstrates the occurrence of numerous nerves containing the vasoactive intestinal polypeptide (VIP) in the male genital tract. The nerves occur in association with arteries and smooth musculature of the organs. Available evidence suggests VIP to be a new neurotransmittor possibly involved in the regulation of blood flow and muscle contractility of the male genital organs.  相似文献

The ultrastructure of lateral organs (LO) in the larval tickArgas (Persicargas) arboreus is described before and after feeding and up to the 1st day of moulting. Three pairs of LO are associated with three pedal nerves arising from the synganglion. In unfed ticks, each LO is ensheathed by a neural lamella and consists of 6–7 neuronal cell bodies; their cytoplasm is mostly occupied by cisternae of rough endoplasmic reticulm (RER). In fully engorged ticks, the enlarged neuronal cells contain vacuolar cisternae of smooth endoplasmic reticulum (SER), coated vesicles and mitochondria. Golgi bodies are involved in the formation of neurosecretory granules which dominate, with the SER vacuoles, the cell cytoplasm before moulting. The vacuoles, coated vesicles and neurosecretory granules are similar to those found in the vertebrate steroid-secreting cells. Condensing vacuoles may fuse with lysosome-like bodies to form larger ones; these are possibly responsible for the cell breakdown when secretory products are no longer required. Ultrastructural observations of LO suggest that they are neuroendocrine glands and that, in engorged larvae, they may secrete a hormone involved in the control of moulting.  相似文献

Fatal herpesvirus tamarinus infection was observed in cotton-topped marmosets (Saguinus oedipus) imported from South America via the United States on August 26, 1976. In addition to the lesions hitherto reported in herpesvirus tamarinus infection, severe degenerative and necrotic changes of ganglion cells were recognized with intranuclear inclusion bodies in the plexus of the digestive tract and the sympathetic nerves and their ganglions in the abdominal cavity. Inflammatory or regressive changes were also noted in the central nervous system. A large number of basophilic or eosinophilic intranuclear inclusion bodies frequently recognized in multinucleated giant cells were observed in various organs and tissues, and they showed different shapes at the electron microscopic level. Morphological findings indicated that herpesvirus tamarinus infection seemed to be similar to herpes simplex virus infection in man. The findings of the susceptibility of a variety of cell cultures to the virus isolate serologically identified as herpesvirus tamarinus and physicochemical characteristics of the virus isolate were in general agreement with the findings of herpesvirus tamarinus already reported by previous workers.  相似文献

Organs and structures of the vertebrate head perform a plethora of tasks including visualization, digestion, vocalization/communication, auditory functions, and respiration in response to neuronal input. This input is primarily derived from afferent and efferent fibers of the cranial nerves (sensory and motor respectively) and efferent fibers of the cervical sympathetic trunk. Despite their essential contribution to the function and integration of processes necessary for survival, how organ innervation is established remains poorly understood. Furthermore, while it has been appreciated for some time that innervation of organs by cranial nerves is regulated in part by secreted factors and cell surface ligands expressed by those organs, whether nerves also regulate the development of facial organs is only beginning to be elucidated. This review will provide an overview of cranial nerve development in relation to the organs they innervate, and outline their known contributions to craniofacial development, thereby providing insight into how nerves may shape the organs they innervate during development. Throughout, the interaction between different cell and tissue types will be highlighted.  相似文献

Summary The presence of neurofilament (NF)-like and glial fibrillary acidic protein (GFAP)-like immunoreactivities was studied in sympathetic ganglia of adult rats and guinea pigs during normal conditions and after perturbation. In the superior cervical ganglion (SCG) of normal rats, many ganglion cells and nerve fibers show NF immunoreactivity. Some of these nerve fibers disappear after preganglionic decentralization of SCG; this indicates the presence of a mixture of preand postganglionic NF-positive nerves in the ganglion. Cuts in both preand postganglionic nerves result in a marked increase in GFAP immunoreactivity in SCG, whereas NF immunoreactivity increases in nerve cell bodies after preganglionic cuts. Only a few ganglion cells show NF immunoreactivity in the normal SCG of guinea pig. All intraganglionic NF-positive nerves are of preganglionic origin; decentralization abolishes NF immunoreactivity in these nerve fibers. The inferior mesenteric ganglion, the hypogastric nerves and colonic nerves in guinea pigs contain large numbers of strongly NF-immunoreactive nerve fibers. When the SCG of adult rat is grafted to the anterior eye chamber of adult rat recipients, both ganglionic cell bodies and nerve fibers, forming on the host iris from the grafted ganglion, are NF-positive. As only the perikarya of these neurons normally exhibit NF immunoreactivity, and the terminal iris arborizations are NF-negative, it appears that the grafting procedure causes NF immunoreactivity to become more widespread in growing SCG neurons.  相似文献

Summary We investigated the distribution of vasoactive intestinal polypeptide (VIP)-like immunoreactive cell bodies in relation to the major cerebral and internal carotid arteries at the skull base in rats. Acetylcholinesterase (AChE) histochemistry was also applied to investigate the localization of this enzyme. VIP staining revealed a few positive cell bodies in nerves close to the internal carotid artery at the base of the skull as well as in the cerebral arterial wall. Ganglion-like cell bodies were detectable within the greater superficial petrosal (GSP) nerve. AChE activity was observed in VIP-like immunoreactive cell bodies along the whole of the GSP nerve. These cell bodies in the GSP nerve may give rise to at least some of the perivascular VIP-and AChE-containing nerves of the internal carotid arteries at the base of the skull.  相似文献

Renaut bodies are loosely textured, cell-sparse structures in the subperineurial space of peripheral nerves, frequently found at sites of nerve entrapment. The trunk of the elephant is a mobile, richly innervated organ, which serves for food gathering, object grasping and as a tactile organ. These functions of the trunk lead to distortion and mechanical compression of its nerves, which can therefore be expected to contain numerous Renaut bodies. Samples of the trunk wall of an adult African elephant (Loxodonta africana) were examined histologically using conventional staining methods, immunohistochemistry, and lectin histochemistry. Architecture of nerve plexuses and occurrence of Renaut bodies in the elephant trunk were compared with those in tissues surrounding the nasal vestibule of the pig. Prominent nerve plexuses were found in all layers of the elephant trunk. Almost all (81%) nerve profiles contained Renaut bodies, a basophilic, discrete subperineurial layer resembling cushions around the nerve core. In contrast, Renaut bodies were seen in only 15% of nerve profiles in the porcine nasal vestibule. Within Renaut bodies, fusiform fibroblasts and round, ruff-like cells were placed into a matrix of acidic glycosaminoglycans with delicate collagen and very few reticular fibers. The turgor of this matrix is thought to protect nerves against compression and shearing strain. Renaut bodies are readily stained with alcian blue (pH 2.5) favorably in combination with immunohistochemical markers of nerve fibers. They should be regarded as a physiological response to repeated mechanical insults and are distinct from pathological alterations. alterations.  相似文献

A polyclonal antibody against allatostatin 1 (AST-1) of cockroach Diploptera punctata was used to investigate the distribution of AST-like immunoreactivity within the abdomen of the locust, Schistocerca gregaria. In the abdominal ganglia, AST-like immunoreactivity was found in both cell bodies and neuropile. In ganglia 6 and 7, staining was found in serial homologous cell bodies in anterior dorsolateral and dorsomedial, and posterior ventrolateral and ventromedial locations. In the terminal ganglion, the numerous immunoreactive somata were smaller in size than those in the unfused ganglia. The combination of backfill experiments with immunocytochemistry showed that, in abdominal ganglion 7, one neuron of the ventromedian cell body cluster and two of the ventrolateral cluster innervated the oviduct, which itself was covered with a dense mesh of AST-immunoreactive varicosities. Combining electron microscopy with immunohistochemistry revealed AST-like immunoreactivity in dense-core vesicles located in neurohaemal-like terminals lacking structures normally found in synapses. A mesh of AST-immunoreactive varicosities was also found on the muscles of the spermatheca and the spermathecal duct. In addition, a mesh of strongly stained varicosities was present in the distal perisympathetic organs (neurohaemal organs in the abdomen) and on the lateral heart nerves (a putative neurohaemal release zone). These data indicate that AST is an important neuroactive substance that is probably involved in multiple tasks in the control of the locust abdomen.  相似文献
