A new monotypic genus based onPtosimopappus bracteatus Boiss. =Centaurea ptosimopappa Hayek is described. The history of its classification and relationships toCheirolophus Cass. andMicrolophus Cass. are discussed.     

Sinoalaria,a name to replace Alaria （Araneae,Theridiosomatidae）

Sinoalaria nom. nov.
= Alaria Zhao ＆ Li, 2012. ZooKeys 255： 7.
Type species. Alaria chengguanensis Zhao ＆ Li, 2012
Etymology. The generic epithet is a combination of Latin Sino （=China） and Latin alaria （=of wings）, referring to the distribution of the genus and the shape of projection of the copulatory ducts. Gender is feminine.     

Hamata,a new section ofTaraxacum (Asteraceae)

A distinct group of triploid, apomicticTaraxacum species, recognized by blackish green, pruinose involucres and ± hamate lateral lobes, is newly described as sectionHamata. Cytological and morphological investigations have shown a distinctive uniformity among these species which supports this classification. A key to all knownHamata species, illustrations and notes about critical species are given. A new species of the section,T. fusciflorum, is described.     

Lectotypification of the Linnaean name Hypochaeris maculata (Asteraceae)

The typification of the name Hypochaeris maculata L. is discussed. A specimen from the Linnaean Herbarium (LINN) is designated as the lectotype.     

Foonchewia coriacea,a new combination to replace F. guangdongensis (Rubiaceae)

Examination of both specimens and literature has shown that Mycetia coriacea (based on Adenosacme coriacea; Rubiaceae) has apically dehiscent dry capsules, quite different from the indehiscent berries of other species of the genus Mycetia. In various characters including the fruits, the species is found to be identical with the newly described species Foonchewia guangdongensis, the only species of the genus Foonchewia and the tribe Foonchewieae. Therefore, the new combination Foonchewia coriacea is here proposed to replace F. guangdongensis.     

Stirtonanthus, a new name for Stirtonia (Leguminosae, tribe Podalyrieae)

The new generic name Stirtonanthus is proposed to replace the illegitimate Stirtonia Van Wyk & Schutte (1994), which proves to be a later homonym of Stirtonia A. L . Smith (1926) and Stirtonia R. Brown (1900).     

Jalcophila boliviensis,a new species of South American Asteraceae (Gnaphalieae)

The new species, Jalcophila boliviensis (Asteraceae: Gnaphalieae) is described and illustrated. A discussion of the systematic position of Jalcophila Dillon & Sagást. and a key to the three species of the genus are presented.     

A new name and a new species in MexicanRuellia (Acanthaceae)

Based on pollen and floral morphology,Blechum grandiflorum is transferred toRuellia, and the nameR. mirandana is proposed for this species. A new species,Ruellia tuxtlensis, is described which is distinguishable fromR. mirandana by its longer spike and elliptic bracts. It is presently known only from the lowlands of Veracruz, Mexico.     

A new Haplopappus (Asteraceae: Astereae) from Nevada

A new species, Haplopappus graniticus, is described and illustrated. Its relationships seemingly lie with section Tonestus but its narrow heads and imbricated phyllaries are anomalous in that section.     

Sphaeromeria,a genus closer to Artemisia than to Tanacetum (Asteraceae: Anthemideae)

A new species,Sphaeromeria ruthiae, from Zion National Park, and three new combinations,S. martirensis,S. compacta, andS. potentilloides var.nitrophila, are presented. Morphological and anatomical evidence is used to support the recognition ofSphaeromeria as distinct fromTanacetum.     

Lopholaena festiva, a new species from the Transvaal, South Africa (Asteraceae)

A new species of Lopholaena, L. festiva , is described from the northern Transvaal, South Africa. It's affinities are discussed. A distribution map is presented. The tribal disposition of the genus Lopholaena is reviewed.     

A new species of Brickellia,subgenus Phanerostylis (Asteraceae)

Brickellia nesomii, a new species from northeastern Mexico, is described. It belongs to the subgenus Phanerostylis, which Gray originally placed in Eupatorium; King and Robinson elevated the taxon to generic rank; it is herein kept at the subgeneric level but transferred to Brickellia. Reasons for this transfer are given. Barroetea glutinosa, positioned by King and Robinson in Phanerostylis, is excluded.     

Misapplication of the name stachys nuttallii (Lamiaceae) to a new southeastern species

A recent study of Southeastern species ofStachys points out a problem involving the identity ofS. nuttallii Shuttlew. ex Bentham. Type material ofS. nuttallii is clearly representative of what is commonly known asS. riddellii House.S. riddellii of current authors must now be calledS. nuttallii, S. riddellii becoming a taxonomic synonym. However, no valid names have been uncovered in the literature that can be correctly applied to the species, primarily from the Blue Ridge Mountains, previously known to most botanists as “S. nuttallii.” These plants are described as a new species,Stachys eplingii.     

Neolaugeria,a new name for Terebraria (Rubiaceae) of the West Indies

Terebraria Kuntze (1903), formerly known asLaugeria Hooker (1873) non Linnaeus (1764), has been found to be a later homonym ofTerebraria Greville (1864) and is renamed asNeolaugeria. The new combinations,Neolaugeria apiculata,N. densiflora andN. resinosa are proposed, and a key, synonymies and specimen citations (US) are provided for these species.Terebraria hotteana andT. lineolata are synonymized underN. apiculata.     

Hieracium vierhapperi (Asteraceae) a new species to the Carpathians, with some remarks on its origin

Hieracium vierhapperi (Zahn) Szeląg, known so far only from the Alps, was discovered in the Nízke Tatry Mts in Slovakia, as a new species to the Carpathians. Diagnostic characters, illustration and distribution as well as ecology of H. vierhapperi in the Nízke Tatry Mts are given. A key to distinguish H. vierhapperi from the morphologically related species is added. The Carpathian plants are tetraploid (2n = 36) and reproduce apomictically. The origin of H. sect. Cernua R. Uechtr in the Western Carpathians is briefly discussed.     

A new Spanish species of Tragopogon (Asteraceae: Lactuceae)

Tragopogon cazorlanum (Asteraceae: Lactuceae) is proposed as a new Spanish species with distribution restricted to the Baetic mountains (south-eastern Spain).
