The Chinese tree Emmenopterys henryi is described and illustrated based on the rare blooming of a specimen at Cambridge University Botanic Garden in summer 2012. Other known flowerings in cultivation are reviewed with particular reference to Britain. The origin of the Cambridge tree, propagated from an original introduction at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew and distributed in the early 1980s is discussed. Based on original herbarium collections and archive material the discovery and introduction of this species into cultivation is reviewed.  相似文献

The nine Siberian species described by Stuxberg in the genus Lithobius are redescribed from the original material. It is concluded that six of these species (ostiacorum, princeps, sulcipes, nordenskioldii, fugax and vagabundus) are valid and that three (scrobiculatus, formicarum and captivus) are junior synonyms. Three further species, one of them new, have been found among Stuxberg's Siberian specimens and are described.  相似文献

The Irish plant which, following Mitten, has commonly been referred to as Plagiochila ambagiosa Mitt. is specifically different from the type of P. ambagiosa, and is therefore described as Plagiochila atlantica F. Rose, sp. nov. It is now known from very restricted areas in Western Ireland, Western Scotland and North-western France.  相似文献

Bryobrittonia pellucida was described by Williams in 1901 from a sterile specimen. He suggested a relationship with some members of the Pottiaceae. In 1953, Steere described the sporophyte ofB. pellucida and placed it in the Encalyptaceae. The type ofEncalypta longipes Mitten (1865), a fruiting specimen collected by Drummond in western Canada, is what is presently known asB. pellucida; therefore, the new combination,B. longipes, is made. The distinctive morphological and ecological features of the genusBryobrittonia are described in relation to those of the genusEncalypta. On the basis of both sporophytic and gametophytic characteristics,E. streptocarpa andE. procera are the species most closely related toB. longipes.  相似文献

Pennella sagitta (L.) is redescribed from fresh specimens recovered from Histrio histrio (L.) and from material in the collection of the Smithsonian Institution. A small, delicate parasitic copepod, P. sagitta is shown to be a valid species, found only on fishes of the family Antennariidae. Attempts of earlier workers to synonymize P. diodontis with P. sagitta are rejected, and the distinguishing features of both species are presented. A neotype is proposed from material described herein, due to a lack of the original holotype. A provisional review of the genus Pennella Oken, 1816 is provided, and the taxonomic status of 31 species is discussed. Pennella exocoetus is described from material in museum collections. Seven species, P. balaenoptera, P. diodontis, P. exocoetus, P.filosa, P. instructa, P. makaira and P. sagitta are considered as valid members of the genus. The remaining species are reduced to synonymy with valid species or accorded the status of species inquirendae.  相似文献

As a result of an examination of the original material of G. O. Sars and of new material from Björnehodebukta, Oslofjord, Danielssenia fusiformis (Brady) is synonymized with Danielssenia typica Boeck and the latter species redescribed. Two new species are described; D. quadriseta , from Oslofjord, is distinguished from all other known species by the presence of only 1 inner seta on the distal endopodite segment of swimming leg 3; Danielssenia reducta , from Alaska, is the only species in the genus with just 3 setae on the terminal endopodite segment of swimming leg 4. On the basis of the material collected in the Red Sea and the Indian Ocean four new species of trematodes are described: Bucephalopsis pseni sp. n., Diploproctodaeum chelonodoni sp. n., Bucephalus neoscombropsi sp. n., Phyllodistomum sobolevi sp. n. Anatomical and morphological characteristics of the above species as well as original figures of the trematodes are given, their taxonomic position is discussed.  相似文献

'Sporidesmium' lichenicola sp. nov. is described from the decaying thallus of an unidentified Leptogium species growing on unidentified tree bark from the Guaramacal National Park in Boconó, Táchira, in western Venezuela. This is only the second lichenicolous species to be described under this generic name, and differences from that species and similar species in Sporidesmium s. lat. are discussed. A more precise generic placement will have to await a molecularly based taxonomy of the genus. The original material comes from a mycologically little explored region of the country, and brief information on previous mycological (including lichenological) studies in the area is provided for the first time in English. The new combination S. sinense (syn. Repetophragma sinense) also is made.  相似文献

The use of paraffin-embedded tissue for flow cytometry is reviewed. A number of technical modifications of the original 1983 method have been described, aimed at improving the accuracy of DNA measurements by minimizing cell debris or reducing coefficients of variation, and at simplifying sample preparation. Over 100 clinical studies have now been reported, mainly assessing the effect of DNA index on prognosis, and those published up until mid-1988 are summarized in an appendix. More recently there have been developments in the use of monoclonal antibodies to measure oncogene products or proliferation markers in addition to DNA content. Detailed clinical evaluation and standardization of these more sophisticated methods is still some way ahead, but as was the case with DNA index, the use of archival material from patients whose outcome is already known should speed this process.  相似文献

Navicula subtilissima was described by Cleve as a new species from ‘a dry rivulet at the shore of Imandra, at the foot of Chibinä, Lapland’. However, the examination of the type slides and the unmounted original material using transmission and scanning electron microscopy revealed that there are at least three finely striated similar taxa distinguishable at the specific level. From these taxa, application of the nameN. subtilissima Cleve is established by selecting a lectotype; a second one is described as a new species,N. parasubtilissima, and the third is identified asN. subtilissima var.micropunctata Germain. The last one warrants a specific status by its fine structural differences in having continuous striae consisting of a single elongate areola occluded by a hymen with perforations arranging hexagonally. The occurrence of these three species is shown in Japanese collections.  相似文献
