A total of 217 Barbus graellsii, 54 Barbus haasi, 417 Cyprinus carpio and 85 Leuciscus cephalus captured at 9 sampling stations in the central basin of the Llobregat River (NE Spain) were studied for Lernaea cyprinacea parasitism. Prevalence (B. graellsii 39.2, B. haasi 31.5, C. carpio 8.4, L. cephalus 48.2), intensity of infection (B. graellsii range 1 to 39, mean 4.6; B. haasi range 1 to 7, mean 2.6; C. carpio range 1 to 16, mean 3.1; L. cephalus range 1 to 8, mean 2.4), and abundance (B. graellsii 1.80; B. haasi 0.83; C. carpio 0.26; L. cephalus 1.15) varied with the fish species studied. Correlations between abundance and host size were positive and significant for B. graellsii and L. cephalus. Correlation was positive but non-significant for B. haasi. Correlation between intensity and fish size was positive but not significant for B. graellsii, C. carpio, and L. cephalus. This is the first record of L. cyprinacea infecting B. graellsii and B. haasi.  相似文献

A total of 1520 ornamental fish of 13 species from 26 export farms in Sri Lanka were collected between October 1999 and March 2000 and examined for parasites. Fish species examined were guppy Poecilia reticulata, goldfish Carassius auratus, platy Xiphophorus maculatus, molly Poecilia sphenops, angel Pterophyllum scalare, swordtail Xiphophorus helleri, tetras Hyphessobrycon species, barbs Capeota and Puntius spp., gourami Colisa sp., carp Cyprinus carpio, fighters Betta spelendens and others (Brachydanio and Astronotus spp.). Nine species of monogenean trematodes (Dactylogyrus extensus, Dactylogyrus cf. extensus, D. vastator, Dactylogyrus cf. vastator Dactylogyrus spp., Gyrodactylus turnbulli, G. katherineri, Gyrodactylus cf. katherineri, Gyrodactylus spp.), 7 protozoan species (Trichodina nigra, Trichodina spp., Tetrahymena corlissi, T. pyriformis, Ichthyophthirius multifiliis, Ichthyobodo necator, Piscinoodinium spp.), 3 species of copepod arthropods (Lernaea cyprinacea, Ergasilus ceylonensis, Argulus foliaceus), 1 metacercarial stage of a digenean trematode (Centrocestus spp.) and 1 nematode (Capillaria spp.) were identified. Parasites were found in fish from 23 of the 26 farms with an overall prevalence of parasitism in 45.3% of fish. The variation in farm prevalence among different parasites was significant (p < 0.01). Fish infection rates with monogenean trematodes, protozoans, copepod crustaceans, digenean trematodes and nematodes were 28.3, 18.4, 4.8, 0.8 and 0.4%, respectively. In all, 50 out of 590 (50/590) guppies were infected with Tetrahymena, compared with 13/930 for all other species, which is a statistically significant result (p < 0.01). Similarly, 13/44 and 18/44 carp were infected with Argulus foliaceus and Lernaea cyprinacea, compared with 7/1476 and 15/1476, respectively, for all other species combined (p < 0.01). Capillaria spp. was found only in guppies (4/590) and angel fish (3/92) while Centrocestus spp. was found in goldfish (12/153) only.  相似文献

A 2-yr, seasonal, parasitological study of 1,435 fish, belonging to 4 species of native fishes and 7 species of nonnative fishes from the lower Little Colorado River (LCR) and tributary creeks, Grand Canyon, Arizona, yielded 17 species of parasites. These comprised 1 myxozoan (Henneguya exilis), 2 copepods (Ergasilus arthrosis and Lernaea cyprinacea), 1 acarine (Oribatida gen. sp.), 1 piscicolid leech (Myzobdella lugubris), 4 monogeneans (Gyrodactylus hoffmani, Gyrodactylus sp., Dactylogyrus extensus, and Ligictaluridus floridanus), 4 nematodes (Contracaecum sp., Eustrongylides sp., Rhabdochona sp., and Truttaedacnitis truttae), 3 cestodes (Bothriocephalus acheilognathi, Corallobothrium fimbriatum, and Megathylacoides giganteum), and 2 trematodes (Ornithodiplostomum sp. and Posthodiplostomum sp.). Rhabdochona sp. was the only adult parasite native to the LCR. Infection intensities of Ornithodiplostomum sp. and B. acheilognathi were positively correlated with length of the humpback chub Gila cypha. Adult helminths showed a high degree of host specificity, except B. acheilognathi, which was recovered from all fish species examined but was most abundant in cyprinids. Abundance of B. acheilognathi in the humpback chub was highest in the fall and lowest in the summer in both reaches of the LCR. There was no major taxonomic difference in parasite assemblages between the 2 different reaches of the river (LC1 and LC2). Parasite community diversity was very similar in humpback chub, regardless of sampling site or time. The parasite fauna of the LCR is numerically dominated by B. acheilognathi and metacercariae of Ornithodiplostomum sp. The richest and most diverse component community occurred in a nonnative species, the channel catfish Ictalurus punctatus, but infracommunity species richness was highest in a native host, humpback chub.  相似文献

The Lernaea cyprinacea population distributed in the water basin of the medial part of the Vychegda river has one generation a year. It is probably the result of lower temperature of water during the year, than in south parts of L. cyprinacea range.  相似文献

Ergasilus euripedesi is redescribed from newly collected material of both sexes. A new genus, Gauchergasilus, is proposed, with Gauchergasilus euripedesi n. comb., formerly Ergasilus euripedsi Montú, 1980, as its type and only species. The new genus is characterised principally by the five-segmented antennule, the presence of a conspicuous barb on the concave margin of the claw of the antenna, the two-segmented endopod of leg 1 and the reduced fifth leg comprising two setae, one papillate. The male lacks the barb on the antennal claw but its other appendages are similar to those of the female, except for the maxilliped which is absent in females. The affinities of the new genus lie with the Acusicola group of genera.  相似文献

Based on morphological and molecular analyses of a Petrochromis fish (Cichlidae) from the southern end of Lake Tanganyika, this fish is considered a taxonomic species distinct from the six known congeners. A new scientific name is proposed for this fish. A key to the seven Petrochromis species is included.  相似文献

A reductionist approach to allometric analysis is proposed: (1) growing two or more closely related taxa in a common environment, (2) measuring changes in morphological dimensions over measured time intervals, and (3) calculating and comparing specific growth rates of parts. This approach complements studies of allometry which use field-collected specimens and bi-variate or multivariate analyses of logarithms of morphological distance measures. While field, cross-sectional methods are more robust and easily applied, longitudinal studies provide a new class of information-absolute growth rates of parts. This approach is illustrated by comparing two geographic populations of the Hermit crab Pagurus longicarpus . Ontogenetic equivalence is approximated by use of a reference dimension which exhibits the same initial sizes and specific growth rates in both populations. Differences between crabs from Connecticut and North Carolina in growth of the right claw relative to the thorax and in right/left claw symmetry are shown to be reducible to absolute differences in right claw growth. Further, geographic comparisons at separate ontogenetic stages show that both absolute and relative measures of growth change during the ontogeny, and geographic differences apparent in mid-ontogeny disappear in late ontogeny. Functional constraints on the growth of the right claw provide a probable explanation for both the ontogenetic and the geographic patterns.  相似文献

Differential white blood cell counts from Schizodon intermedius infested by Lernaea cyprinacea were carried out and compared using the Wilcoxon matched pairs test. The observations were performed in fish infested by 16-77 adult Lernaea, fish with parasitic lesions but without attached crustaceans, and non parasitized fish (control group). The specimens of Schizodon intermedius were obtained from the University of Londrina fish farming facilities. The following leucocytes were observed: lymphocytes, neutrophils, monocytes, basophils, eosinophils and immature leucocytes. Intense lymphocytopenia and neutrophilia were observed in the infested hosts. Consistent increasing of monocyte percentage values occurred in the infested fish. The highest values for immature leucocytes counts were recorded from infested fish specimens.  相似文献

In this study, the subject of whether investment in one bilateral structure was linked to investment in the homologous bilateral opposite structure was investigated. Male fiddler crabs (genus Uca, family Ocypodidae) displayed strong bilateral claw differentiation of function and size, which are used for feeding (minor claw) or display/combat (major claw). Females had similar‐sized feeding claws. Linkage between claw size was investigated by estimating the deviations from an overall fitted regression of claw length to body size. The positive correlations of the deviations of claw size for major and minor claws of males and between right and left claws of females, relative to body size, suggested a linkage in investment between one claw and the corresponding claw on the other side of the body, for both monomorphic females and dimorphic males. A signal to send resources may be effectively gated to the claw complex, suggesting that positively correlated resources are allocated to both claws. Positive correlations were also found at the interspecific level. The fiddler crab model, described here, gives access to study the linkage in symmetric and asymmetric bilateral structures in the same species with a connection to the macroevolutionary level.  相似文献

A new parasitic copepod, Tiddergasilus bipartitus n. sp. (Copepoda, Ergasilidae), is described herein based on three adult females found attached to the gills of the yellow-tail lambari Astyanax lacustris (Lütken), sampled in Pardo River, municipality of Botucatu, São Paulo State, Brazil. Tiddergasilus bipartitus n. sp. was recognized as a new member of the monotypic genus Tiddergasilus Marques & Boeger, 2018 by having: antennule 6-segmented; maxillary basis armed with 2 terminal teeth and ornamented with multiple spinules; second and third leg both with endopod 3-segmented. The new copepod can be distinguished from its congener, Tiddergasilus iheringi (Tidd, 1942), by the morphology of the antennal claw, number of somites/segments in abdomen and fourth leg, and by the ornamentation of the first leg. This report expands the geographic distribution and diversity of fish species parasitized with Tiddergasilus spp. in Brazil. Moreover, it also represents the first report of an ergasilid species in the Pardo River. A list of diagnostic features for the Brazilian species of Ergasilus von Nordmann, 1832 is provided herein, in order to aid comparisons with the species of this complex genus.

Fish species recognition is an important task to preserve ecosystems, feed humans, and tourism. In particular, the Pantanal is a wetland region that harbors hundreds of species and is considered one of the most important ecosystems in the world. In this paper, we present a new method based on convolutional neural networks (CNNs) for Pantanal fish species recognition. A new CNN composed of three branches that classify the fish species, family and order is proposed with the aim of improving the recognition of species with similar characteristics. The branch that classifies the fish species uses information learned from the family and order, which has shown to improve the overall accuracy. Results on unrestricted image dataset showed that the proposed method provides superior results to traditional approaches. Our method obtained an accuracy of 0.873 versus 0.864 of traditional CNN in recognition of 68 fish species. In addition, our method provides fish family and order recognition, which obtained accuracies of 0.938 and 0.96, respectively. We hope that, with these promising results, an automatic tool can be developed to monitor species in an important region such as the Pantanal.  相似文献

Ligophorus pilengas Sarabeev & Balbuena, 2004 and L. gussevi Miroshnichenko & Maltsev, 2004, both recently described as new species from the so-iuy mullet Mugil soiuy in the Sea of Azov and Black Sea, were compared. A morphometric analysis of both forms strongly suggests that they represent the same species. According to the 'Principle of priority', L. pilengas is proposed as a senior synonym of L. gussevi.  相似文献

A collection of whole mount preparations of digeneans was studied. The parasites were collected from several species of fishes caught in a fishing area of the South Adriatic Sea. A host-parasite list is given. Twenty species of fish were analysed and twenty-seven species of digeneans were found, twenty of which had previously been described in the same host, and six of which were observed in new hosts and/or localities. One digenean, hitherto undescribed, is illustrated in this paper and described as Lecithaster atherinae n.sp. The new species can be distinguished from L. bombayensis by the testes not being lobed; from L. extralobus by having four rather than five ovarian lobes; from L. indicus and L. maeoticus by the ovarian lobes not being finger-like; from L. leiostomi by having definitely smaller eggs.  相似文献

The aim of the present article was to contribute to the systematics of the leydigi-like species of Leydigia consisting of a few (probably 3) formal species with: (1) a large basal spine on the postabdominal claw (as long as claw thickness at the base); (2) a short setulation at anterior margin of labral keel; (3) no longitudinal striation on the female valves; (4) at least three lateral setae in each fascicle on the postabdomen; (5) three large lateral setae on exopodite III. The morphology of L. leydigi (Schoedler, 1863) and L. louisi Jenkin, 1934 are redescribed, and type material of L. macrodonta Sars, 1916 is studied. In contrast to previous suggestions (Jenkin, 1934; Smirnov, 1971), I found that: (1) L. louisi is a valid species, not a subspecies of L. macrodonta; (2) L. macrodonta is not a member of the L. leydigi-group. The third member of leydigi-group, Leydigia macrodonta longiseta Chen Shou-zhong, 1992, was described from China. It is not a subspecies of L. macrodonta, but a relative of L. leydigi; most probably, it is a valid species, but this opinion must to be confirmed by examination of original Asian material. In this article, the presence of L. leydigi in Palearctic only, and that of L. louisi in only Africa was confirmed. A new subspecies of L. louisi, found in Mexico, will be reported separately.  相似文献

Szlachetko, D. L. 1995. Two new species of the genus Pelexia (Orchidaceae, Spiranthinae) from South America. - Nord. J. Bot. 15: 173–175. Copenhagen. ISSN 0107–055X.
Pelexia sheviakii and Pelexia collocaliae are described as new species from Ecuador and Paraguay respectively. Pelexia sheviakii differs from Pelexia bonariensis and any other species related by its lip form, which is rhomboid, has no constriction, and with basal lip thickenings produced on upper surface of claw. The most characteristic features of Pelexia collocaliae are U-shaped callus at apices of petals, erect flowers, straight lateral sepals and narrow lip with two small calli near isthmus.  相似文献

The infection status of marine fish and cephalopods with Anisakis simplex third stage larva (L3) was studied over a period of 1 year. A total of 2,537 specimens, which consisted of 40 species of fish and 3 species of cephalopods, were purchased from the Cooperative Fish Market in Busan, Korea, from August 2006 to July 2007. They were examined for A. simplex L3 from the whole body cavity, viscera, and muscles. A. simplex L3 were confirmed by light microscopy. The overall infection rate reached 34.3%, and average 17.1 larvae were parasitized per infected fish. Fish that recorded the highest infection rate was Lophiomus setigerus (100%), followed by Liparis tessellates (90%), Pleurogrammus azonus (90%), and Scomber japonicus (88.7%). The intensity of infection was the highest in Gadus macrocephalus (117.7 larvae per fish), followed by S. japonicus (103.9 larvae) and L. setigerus (54.2 larvae). Although abundance of A. simplex L3 was not seasonal in most of the fish species, 10 of the 16 selected species showed the highest abundance in February and April. A positive correlation between the intensity of L3 infection and the fish length was obvious in S. japonicus and G. macrocephalus. It was likely that A. simplex L3 are more frequently infected during the spring season in some species of fish. Our study revealed that eating raw or undercooked fish or cephalopods could still be a source of human infection with A. simplex L3 in Korea.  相似文献

Pedal claw geometry can be used to predict behaviour in extant tetrapods and has frequently been used as an indicator of lifestyle and ecology in Mesozoic birds and other fossil reptiles, sometimes without acknowledgement of the caveat that data from other aspects of morphology and proportions also need to be considered. Variation in styles of measurement (both inner and outer claw curvature angles) has made it difficult to compare results across studies, as have over-simplified ecological categories. We sought to increase sample size in a new analysis devised to test claw geometry against ecological niche. We found that taxa from different behavioural categories overlapped extensively in claw geometry. Whilst most taxa plotted as predicted, some fossil taxa were recovered in unexpected positions. Inner and outer claw curvatures were statistically correlated, and both correlated with relative claw robusticity (mid-point claw height). We corrected for mass and phylogeny, as both likely influence claw morphology. We conclude that there is no strong mass-specific effect on claw curvature; furthermore, correlations between claw geometry and behaviour are consistent across disparate clades. By using independent contrasts to correct for phylogeny, we found little significant relationship between claw geometry and behaviour. ‘Ground-dweller’ claws are less curved and relatively dorsoventrally deep relative to those of other behavioural categories; beyond this it is difficult to assign an explicit category to a claw based purely on geometry.  相似文献
