Levels of tPCB and organic matter content were determined in surface sediments from Sado and Tagus estuaries and Ria Formosa lagoon, and in particles collected in sediment traps in Ria Formosa. Significant relationships (p<0.001) between concentrations of tPCB and organic matter content were obtained when the most contaminated samples and the less contaminated organic-rich sediments were excluded. The excluded samples originated from nearby PCB and organic matter sources. Organic matter appears, thus, the most important indicator of a sediment's sorptive capacity in these estuarine systems, except near the sources where the organic seeking effect is masked. On the basis of the relationship slopes one may conclude that Tagus and Sado estuaries are more contaminated than Alcacer channel (upper Sado estuary) and Ria Formosa.  相似文献

The aim of this study was to analyze the organic matter (OM) origin in the nearshore and the surf zones adjacent to Mar Chiquita lagoon, in order to determine the importance of allochthonous estuarine detritus and in situ marine phytoplankton as carbon (C) sources for young fishes prior to entering the lagoon. Water samples from both the nearshore and the surf zones were collected for estimation of Chlorophyll a concentration, and δ13C and δ15N values of the particulate organic matter (POM). Isotopic composition of the zooplankton and fish larvae from both zones and fish juveniles from the surf zone were also estimated. The contribution of potential OM sources was quantified by Bayesian stable isotope mixing models (SIAR). SIAR models revealed that the POM composition in the coastal area close to Mar Chiquita lagoon comprised a mix of primary producers (terrestrial and marine). The cordgrass Spartina densiflora that develops in the saltmarshes bounding the lagoon, contributed most to the POM of the surf zone, being important as a C source for zooplankton from the same zone. Towards deeper waters (10–12 m, ~2.5 km offshore) with higher chlorophyll a concentrations, phytoplankton contributed most to the POM. Spartina densiflora was not relevant as a C source for larval and juvenile fishes. However, it was of importance to the group of primary consumers, which apparently sustain other zooplankton organisms that fish fed on. In this sense, the OM derived from S. densiflora and exported to the coastal area contributes to sustaining the prey for young fishes outside Mar Chiquita.  相似文献

Ria Formosa is a Region of Restricted Exchange given its limited connection to coastal water circulation. Furthermore, it is subject to several anthropogenic activities that can lead to an increase in nutrients and potentially to eutrophication. Previous studies have shown the importance of the benthic compartment, specifically the microphytobenthos (MPB) in this shallow coastal lagoon. The dCSTT–MPB model [new version of the dynamic Comprehensive Studies Task Team (dCSTT) model] here described couples the benthic and pelagic compartments. Due to the shallowness of the system, the benthic microalgae are one of the most important primary producers of the system. Preliminary results of the model show a large biomass of benthic microalgae, which strongly influences the pelagic chlorophyll concentration by resuspension. However, algae concentrations in the water column are relatively small due to the high flushing rate of the lagoon. The MPB community is mainly supported by nutrients in the pore water. A sensitivity analysis (SA) has revealed that the factors associated with the benthic compartment were the most important and sensitive to changes. Porosity, benthic chlorophyll recycling, loss of MPB due to grazing and the yield of microphytobenthic chlorophyll from nitrogen were some of the most sensitive parameters, as well as the ones associated with decay of particulate organic nitrogen. The development of our dCSTT–MPB model has itself provided insights into benthic function.  相似文献

The ionic concentrations, conductivity and pH of water in the Lake Chany complex in West Siberian Russia change from the mouth to the interior of the lake. This difference is indicative of marked evaporation of lake water from the closed water body system in the dry climate of Western Siberia. The carbon isotope composition of particulate organic matter (POM, composed mainly of phytoplankton) clearly changes, along with the pH of the water, reflecting the concentration of dissolved CO2. Carbon and nitrogen isotope signatures of Chironomus plumosus larvae, a benthic invertebrate that may feed on bulk lake sediment, systematically increase, along with those of POM and sediment organic matter (SOM), through the lake chain. Both sulfate-sulfur and nitrogen isotope compositions of the POM and SOM increase with distance from the estuary into the Lake Chany complex. Heavier sulfur and nitrogen isotope recycling from the sediment, caused by microbial sulfate reduction and denitrification, respectively, may have led to the increased sulfate-sulfur and nitrogen isotope compositions of the POM and SOM.  相似文献

We analysed quantity and quality of particulate organic matter during the austral summer 1994/1995 at a coastal station in Terra Nova Bay (Ross Sea, Antarctica). Our main aims were to investigate the origin and biochemical composition of particulate organic matter (POM), to measure its availability for consumers through the study of its digestible fraction (measured by using different enzymes separately) and to highlight the role of hydrolizable compounds in the organic matter diagenesis in the coastal waters at Terra Nova Bay. Temporal and spatial patterns of chlorophyll-a concentrations were reflected by the particulate organic carbon, nitrogen and total biopolymeric carbon concentrations, suggesting that most POM originated directly from phytoplankton. The most evident feature of POM in the coastal waters at Terra Nova Bay was the dominance of proteins (on average 57% of total biopolymeric particulate carbon), followed by carbohydrates (25%) and lipids (18%). We found that about 30% of the refractory particulate organic carbon (assumed to be present only after the complete exploitation of particulate organic nitrogen) did not originate from biopolymeric carbon (as sum of carbohydrate, protein and lipid carbon). This allows us to suggest the use of the digestible fraction of particulate biopolymeric carbon as a more accurate measure of the food availability of POM for consumers. In Terra Nova Bay coastal waters, most of the particulate protein pool was associated with large phytoplankton cells or phytodetritus. As a result, the protein pool appeared less available (i.e. less digestible) than the one present in oligotrophic waters where, conversely, most particulate organic nitrogen is sequestered into bacteria. The relative low availability of the protein pool, together with the rapid sinking of POM and the low remineralization rates of benthic heterotrophic microbes, are suggested as possible factors in determining the “inefficiency” in organic matter recycling of coastal waters at Terra Nova Bay, which behaves as a “loss type” system. Carbon stable isotope analysis was carried out on zooplankton from 24 United Kingdom lakes to examine the hypothesis that zooplankton dependence on allochthonous sources of organic carbon declines with increasing lake trophy. Stable isotope analysis was also carried out on particulate and dissolved organic matter (POM and DOM) and, in 11 of the lakes, of phytoplankton isolates. In 21 of the 24 lakes, the zooplankton were depleted in 13C relative to bulk POM, consistent with previous reports. δ13C for POM showed relatively little variation between lakes compared to high variation in values for DOM and phytoplankton. δ13C values for phytoplankton and POM converged with increasing lake trophy, consistent with the expected greater contribution of autochthonous production to the total organic matter pool in eutrophic lakes. The difference between δ13C for zooplankton and that for POM was also greatest in oligotrophic lakes and reduced in mesotrophic lakes, in accordance with the hypothesis that increasing lake trophic state leads to greater dependence of zooplankton on phytoplankton production. However, the difference increased again in hypertrophic lakes, where higher δ13C values for POM may have been due to greater inputs of 13C-enriched organic matter from the littoral zone. The very wide variation in phytoplankton δ13C between lakes of all trophic categories made it difficult to detect robust patterns in the variation in δ13C for zooplankton. The concentrations of particulate matter, expressed as dry weight (DW), particulate organic (POM), and inorganic material were measured at regular intervals in Lake Constance between February 1980 and December 1982. Maximum particle concentrations were recorded for the euphotic zone in summer (7 mg l−1), while minima occurred during the early summer and in winter. Annual mean concentrations of DW within the entire water column varied between 0.6 and 0.7 mg l−1. In the euphotic zone nearly 70% of DW is organic material. The inorganic particles originate either from phytoplankton (diatomaceous silicon, biogenic decalcification) or from the tributaries. Although phytoplankton biomass only comprises a relatively small proportion (i.e. 30% at maximum) of organic matter, it is the primary source of POM. Therefore, seasonal variations in phytoplankton control epilimnetic concentrations of POM in Lake Constance. Inorganic material comprises smaller proportions of suspended matter. Seasonal variations are related predominantly to fluctuations in biomass and therefore particulate inorganic matter is suggested to originate mainly from autochthonous sources. At the sampling station concentrations of inorganic particles supported by the main tributary, the Alpenrhein, only occasionally vary concomitantly with runoff.  相似文献

The contribution of benthic microalgal production has been compared both within and outside a coastal eelgrass (Zostera marina L.) meadow. Carbon and nitrogen stable isotope ratios of suspended particulate organic matter (POM), epiphytic and epilithic organic matter (EOM), leaves of Z. marina (inside the meadow only) and two secondary consumer species (small crustaceans and fish) were measured inside and outside a meadow in Mitsukuchi Bay, Northwest Seto Inland Sea, Japan. Inside the meadow, primary producers (epiphyton) and consumers showed higher δ13C signatures than outside. Primary and secondary consumers inside the meadow were mainly dependent on epiphyton on the leaves of Z. marina, while consumer species outside the meadow were basically dependent on epilithon.  相似文献

We investigated spatial changes in the isotope ratios of the plankton food web in Lake Chany, Siberia, Russia, especially at an estuarine transition zone of the lake. The δ13C values of particulate organic matter (POM) varied among the sampling sites, and increased with increasing pH of the lake water. This may reflect a shift by phytoplankton from using CO2 to using bicarbonate for photosynthesis with increasing pH. The δ13C values of zooplankton community also changed at each site along with those of the POM. This was indicative of carbon isotope changes of plankton food webs between the stations along an environmental gradient.  相似文献

The temporal variation in the stable carbon and nitrogen isotope ratios of particulate organic matter (POM) in the Rhone River was investigated on a monthly basis during a 2-year period (2004–2005). In spite of high month-to-month variation, interannually consistent seasonal trends appeared, with significantly lower δ13C (<?28.2‰) in spring than in the other seasons. In contrast, δ15N did not exhibit significant temporal variation. In spring and summer, high chlorophyll a and b concentrations were associated with low C/N values (<8) and a high percentage of organic carbon (%C) and organic nitrogen (%N), testifying to high development of autochthonous riverine phytoplankton (mainly diatoms and chlorophytes). In fall and winter, higher δ13C (>?27.2‰) and C/N (>8) values, and lower %C, %N, and chlorophylls concentrations indicated the predominance of allochthonous terrestrial detritus material in the river POM. The lower δ13C values recorded in spring–summer, when the phytoplankton biomass was high, were related to the lower carbon isotopic signatures of freshwater diatoms and chlorophytes compared to those of terrestrial plants. Overall, Rhone River POM was mainly composed of terrestrially derived material (90%), with autochthonous phytoplankton representing only 10% as a mean, in spite of a higher mean contribution of phytoplankton (27%) to river POM in summer.  相似文献

Shallow high-latitude lakes and ponds are usually characterized by an oligotrophic water column overlying a biomass-rich, highly productive benthos. Their pelagic food webs often contain abundant zooplankton but the importance of benthic organic carbon versus seston as their food sources has been little explored. Our objectives were to measure the δ13C and δ15N isotopic signatures of pelagic and benthic particulate organic matter (POM) in shallow water bodies in northern Canada and to determine the relative transfer of this material to zooplankton and other aquatic invertebrates. Fluorescence analysis of colored dissolved organic matter (CDOM) indicated a relatively strong terrestrial carbon influence in five subarctic waterbodies whereas the CDOM in five arctic water columns contained mostly organic carbon of autochthonous origin. The isotopic signatures of planktonic POM and cohesive benthic microbial mats were distinctly different at all study sites, while non-cohesive microbial mats often overlapped in their δ13C signals with the planktonic POM. Zooplankton isotopic signatures indicated a potential trophic link with different fractions of planktonic POM and the non-cohesive mats whereas the cohesive mats did not appear to be used as a major carbon source. The zooplankton signals differed among species, indicating selective use of resources and niche partitioning. Most zooplankton had δ13C values that were intermediate between the values of putative food sources and that likely reflected selective feeding on components of the pelagic or benthic POM. The results emphasize the likely importance of benthic-pelagic coupling in tundra ecosystems, including for species that are traditionally considered pelagic and previously thought to be dependent only on phytoplankton as their food source.  相似文献

The egg production of the copepod Acartia bifilosa was measured and related to environmental variables and food availability in two estuaries located in the same biogeographic region (Bay of Biscay) but showing very strong differences in abiotic and biotic features: the Gironde estuary (France) and the estuary of Mundaka (Spain). The study was conducted during the spring-summer-autumn period of 1994. Food availability was evaluated by analysing the chlorophyll a (Chl a), the particulate organic carbon (POC) and the easily extractable macromolecular compounds such as proteins, carbohydrates and lipids of the seston. The egg production of copepods was estimated from field incubations with natural water, and phytoplankton feeding of adult females was estimated by means of the gut fluorescence method. The nutritional environment of the Gironde was characterised by high amounts of suspended particulate matter (SPM) with low food value, emphasising the mainly detrital origin of the organic matter (OM). In Mundaka, the higher contribution of phytoplankton to the seston led to marked increases in particulate food value accounting for up to 35% of organic matter. The weight-specific egg production was found to be sharply higher in Mundaka (ranging from 0.2 to 0.63×10−3 day−1) than in the Gironde (ranging from 0 to 0.13×10−3 day−1), but the seasonal trend of variations was similar, the highest weight-specific egg production rates occurring in early summer and the lowest in autumn in both estuaries. Egg production was not correlated linearly with temperature since maximal egg production occurred at intermediate temperatures. In Mundaka, the egg production showed a significant positive correlation with the chlorophyll and the Chl/SPM and the POC/SPM ratios. This coupled with higher values of algal food availability (Chl a/SPM: 10 to 1870 μg g−1) and gut fluorescence (between 0.12 and 0.38 ng Chl a Eq ind−1) indicate that a herbivorous diet could cover the energy requirements of A. bifilosa and support egg production. In the Gironde, the algal food availability and the gut fluorescence were lower (Chl a/SPM: 10 to 80 μg g−1; GF: 0.09 and 0.25 ng Chl a Eq ind−1), and the egg production showed significant positive correlation with the particulate food value, suggesting that other sources of carbon rather than phytoplankton were responsible for the observed changes in egg production. Results indicate that the particular seston properties of each system may be responsible for the noticeable differences in A. bifilosa fertility among estuaries.  相似文献

Energy (biomass) and energy flows (production, inputs, transfers and losses) were calculated for eight and twelve compartment systems (phytoplankton, benthic primary producers (macroalgae, microphytobenthos), zooplankton, benthos (meiofauna, suspensivores, deposivores and predators), fish, birds and particulate organic matter (POM) in sediment and suspended particulate matter (SPM)) both balanced and unbalanced of Dublin Bay and the Baie de Somme. The resultant models were analysed with the Scientific Committee on Oceanic Research (SCOR) network analysis package. While the two systems share many properties such as the dominant biosedimentary facies, there are fundamental differences in both structuring and responses of the systems. The network analysis suggested that the Baie de Somme was far more productive, notably in terms of water column productivity, and was the more mature system. The high organic SPM input to Dublin Bay greatly elevated the degree of detritivory such that the analysis generated metrics indicative of a mature system but which rather reflected the degree of anthropogenic stress on the system. However, the analysis of both systems displayed varying degrees of maturity. Increasing the number of compartments greatly increased the calculated throughput (T) of the system and other associated metrics such as capacity (C), ascendancy (A) and redundancy (R). In the case of Dublin Bay, a higher number of compartments increased the various measures of system maturity, but this was much less marked for the Baie de Somme. Balancing the systems also increased T, C, A and R, and, to a lesser extent but not invariably, the system maturity metrics. The ratios of the comparative system metrics such as comparative ascendancy (A/C) were much less changed by the different methodologies and as such are recommended as robust measures for intercomparison of system performance.  相似文献

Ria Formosa is a large (c.a. 100 km2) mesotidal lagoon system with large intertidal areas and several conflicting uses, such as fisheries, aquaculture, tourism and nature conservation. Its watersheds cover an area of approximately 864 km2, with a perimeter of 166 km and a maximum altitude of 522 m. There are about 100 different land use classes being divided among six major groups: (1) urban, (2) agricultural, (3) forest, (4) rangeland and pastures, (5) wetlands and (6) water bodies. The Soil and Water Assessment Tool (SWAT model) has been applied to the catchment areas in order to simulate water discharges to Ria Formosa, providing forcing to a two-dimensional vertically integrated coupled physical-biogeochemical model, implemented with EcoDynamo—an object oriented modelling software. This model includes water column and sediment processes as well as their interactions and several biological sub-models (e.g. phytoplankton dynamics and bivalve growth). The main objectives of this work are to: (i) Evaluate the relative importance of land drainage, waste water treatment (WTP) plants and water exchanges, across the lagoon inlets, for nutrient dynamics; (ii) Analyse management scenarios related to changes in lagoon bathymetry and their potential effects on system dynamics. Model’ results are being used by the Ria Formosa Natural Park authority for management purposes and may be useful to feedback future updates of the watershed management plans, within the scope of the European Union Water Framework Directive. Analyses of stable isotope (δ13C and δ15N) and C:N ratios of food webs within a floodplain and a constricted-channel region of the Ohio River during October 1993 and July 1994 indicate that the increasingly influential flood pulse concept (FPC) does not, for either location, adequately address food web structure for this very large river. Furthermore, results of this study suggest that the riverine productivity model (RPM) is more appropriate than the widely known river continuum concept (RCC) for the constricted region of this river. These␣conclusions are based on stable isotope analyses of potential sources of organic matter (riparian C3 trees, riparian C4 grasses and agricultural crops, submerged macrophytes, benthic filamentous algae, benthic particulate organic matter, and transported organic matter containing detritus and phytoplankton) and various functional feeding groups of invertebrate and fish consumers. The FPC, which stresses the key contribution of organic matter, particularly terrestrial organic matter, originating from the floodplain to riverine food webs, was judged inappropriate for the floodplain region of the Ohio River for hydrodynamic and biotic reasons. The rising limb and peak period of discharge typically occur in November through March when temperatures are low (generally much less than 10°C) and greater than bank-full conditions are relatively unpredictable and short-lived. The major food potentially available to riverine organisms migrating into the floodplain would be decaying vegetation because autotrophic production is temperature and light limited and terrestrial insect production is minimal at that time. It is clear from our data that terrestrial C4 plants contribute little, if anything, to the consumer food web (based on δ13C values), and δ15N values for C3 plants, coarse benthic organic matter, and fine benthic organic matter were too depleted (∼7–12‰ lower than most invertebrate consumer values) for this organic matter to be supporting the food web. The RPM, which emphasizes the primary role of autotrophic production in large rivers, is the most viable of the remaining two ecosystem models for the constricted-channel region of the Ohio based on stable isotope linkage between sources and consumers of organic matter in the food web. The most important form of food web organic matter is apparently transported (suspended) fine (FTOM) and ultra-fine particulate organic matter. We propose that phytoplankton and detritus of an autochthonous origin in the seston would represent a more usable energy source for benthic (bivalve molluscs, hydropsychid caddisflies) and planktonic (microcrustaceans) suspension feeders than the more refractory allochthonous materials derived from upstream processing of terrestrial organic matter. Benthic grazers depend heavily on nonfilamentous benthic algae (based on gut analysis from a separate study), but filamentous benthic algae have no apparent connection to invertebrate consumers (based on δ13C values). Amphipod and crayfish show a strong relationship to aquatic macrophytes (possibly through detrital organic matter rather than living plant tissue). These observations contrast with the prediction of the RCC that food webs in large rivers are based principally on refractory FTOM and dissolved organic matter from upstream inefficiencies in organic-matter processing and the bacteria growing upon these suspended or dissolved detrital compounds. The conclusions drawn here for the Ohio River cannot yet be extended to other floodplain and constricted-channel rivers in temperate and tropical latitudes until more comparable data are available on relatively pristine and moderately regulated rivers. Estuarine ecosystems are easily deteriorated by organic pollution because of its high primary productivity. To identify chemical proxies for the possible sources of autochthonous organic matter [phytoplankton-derived particulate organic material (POM), macroalgae and seagrass], we measured C:N:P and the ratios of carbon and nitrogen stable isotopes (δ13C and δ15N values) in two estuarine environments, the polyhaline lagoon, Lake Nakaumi, and the oligohaline lagoon, Lake Shinji, in Japan. Due to vigorous photosynthesis, the δ13C of phytoplankton-derived POM in Lake Nakaumi was larger than what would normally be expected from estuarine salinity gradients. Concentrations of nitrogen and phosphorus did not affect the δ13C of phytoplankton-derived POM. The δ15N of all plants was uniform and was higher than the δ15N of sediments. The seagrass showed a higher C:N ratio than POM and macroalgae, while the macroalgae showed a higher N:P ratio. Thus, simultaneous evaluation of C:N and N:P ratios would distinguish these three plant groups, and it would be possible to identify the source plants from the elemental ratios of the sediments.  相似文献

Stable carbon and nitrogen isotope analysis was used to examine the food sources and trophic structure of 17 fish species and six groups of benthic macroinvertebrates in a seagrass meadow in North Sulawesi, Indonesia. The seagrass, their associated epiphytes, sediment organic matter (SOM) and particulate organic matter (POM) were identified to be the food sources, with δ13C values ranging from ?19.49 (POM) to ?9.66‰ (seagrass). The δ13C of the 23 fauna taxa were between ?18.57 (Arothron manilensis) and ?11.62‰ (Protoreaster sp.). For five of the six groups of benthic macroinvertebrates, seagrass and their epiphytes contributed more than 69.4%. For 14 of the 17 fish species, seagrass and their epiphytes are the main contributors. For 15 of the 17 fishes, the trophic levels inferred from SIA are lower than those from the previously reported diet composition analysis. These findings show that seagrass and their epiphytes are consumed by most of the fish and benthic macroinvertebrates, and are important for a large portion of the food web in seagrass meadows in the Coral Triangle area.  相似文献

Stable isotope ratios of carbon (δ13C) and nitrogen (δ15N) were used to investigate feeding patterns of larval and early juvenile pelagic fishes in slope waters of the Gulf of Mexico. Contribution of organic matter supplied to fishes and trophic position within this pelagic food web was estimated in 2007 and 2008 by comparing dietary signatures of the two main producers in this ecosystem: phytoplankton [based on particulate organic matter (POM)] and Sargassum spp. Stable isotope ratios of POM and pelagic Sargassum spp. were significantly different from one another with δ13C values of POM depleted by 3–6‰ and δ15N values enriched by 2 relative to Sargassum spp. Stable isotope ratios were significantly different among the five pelagic fishes examined: blue marlin Makaira nigricans, dolphinfish Coryphaena hippurus, pompano dolphinfish Coryphaena equiselis, sailfish Istiophorus platypterus and swordfish Xiphias gladius. Mean δ13C values ranged almost 2 among fishes and were most depleted in I. platypterus. In addition, mean δ15N values ranged 4–5 with highest mean values found for both C. hippurus and C. equiselis and the lowest mean value for M. nigricans during both years. Increasing δ13C or δ15N with standard length suggested that shifts in trophic position and diet occurred during early life for several species examined. Results of a two‐source mixing model suggest approximately an equal contribution of organic matter by both sources (POM = 55%; pelagic Sargassum spp. = 45%) to the early life stages of pelagic fishes examined. Contribution of organic matter, however, varied among species, and sensitivity analyses indicated that organic source estimates changed from 2 to 13% for a δ13C fractionation change of ±0·25‰ or a δ15N fractionation change of ± 1·0‰ relative to original fractionation values.  相似文献

While the importance of terrestrial linkages to aquatic ecosystems is well appreciated, the degree of terrestrial support of aquatic consumers remains debated. Estimates of terrestrial contributions to lake zooplankton have omitted a key food source, phytoplankton produced below the mixed layer. We used carbon and nitrogen stable isotope data from 25 Pacific Northwest lakes to assess the relative importance of particulate organic matter (POM) from the mixed layer, below the mixed layer and terrestrial detritus to zooplankton. Zooplankton and deep POM were depleted in 13C relative to mixed layer POM in lakes that can support deep primary production. A Bayesian stable isotope mixing model estimated that terrestrial detritus contributed <5% to zooplankton production, and confirms the role of lake optical and thermal properties; deep POM accounted for up to 80% of zooplankton production in the clearest lakes. These results suggest terrestrial support of lake zooplankton production is trivial.  相似文献

Levels of p,p-DDT and its metabolites in surficial sediments of Tagus and Sado Estuary and lagoon Ria Formosa varied one or two orders of magnitude. In general, p,-DDE and p,-DDD were the dominant metabolites and p,-DDT was a minor component. While concentrations of p,-DDT, p,-DDD and p,-DDE were hardly related to loss on ignition, concentrations of total DDT (tDDT) in surficial sediments of each studied system were positively correlated to that parameter. Higher contaminated samples were excluded from these relationships: a few sediment samples from the Tagus outlet channel, most of the sediments from the upper Sado Estuary, and some particulate matter samples collected in sediment traps in the adjoining area to the Ria Formosa. Concentration of tDDT appears, thus, to be related to sedimentary organic matter of these estuarine systems except near the actual sources of pollution. On the basis of the relationship slopes, one may conclude that lower Tagus Estuary is more contaminated than Ria Formosa and lower Sado Estuary.  相似文献
