Protostrongylus shiozawai (Nematoda: Strongylida) infection is known to occur in the lungs of wild Japanese serows (Capricornis crispus) and, to date, has been classified only by its morphological characteristics, as well as host specificity. To characterize P. shiozawai genetically, a partial sequence of the second internal transcribed spacer (ITS-2) region was determined and compared with those of related nematodes. Our subsequent classification of P. shiozawai based on phylogenetic analysis was consistent with the current classification. Phylogenetic analysis also showed that P. shiozawai is more closely related to Protostrongylus stilesi than to Protostrongylus rufescens. PCR using genetic markers in the ITS-2 region should provide a useful tool for expanded studies of P. shiozawai and other Protostrongylus species.  相似文献

The phylogeny of nematodes in the family Protostrongylidae (Nematoda: Metastrongyloidea) was reconstructed by cladistic analysis of 28 binary and multistate characters derived from comparative morphology. Analyses were hierarchical, and examined (1) relationships among genera, including 13 ingroup taxa and Metastrongylidae as an outgroup (single tree, 78 steps, consistency index [CI] = 0.705); and (2) relationships among genera and species groups, including 21 ingroup taxa and Metastrongylus apri as an outgroup (single tree, 76 steps, CI = 0.582). In the species-level tree, Protostrongylidae was divided into 2 major clades, 1 containing the subfamilies Muelleriinae (including the recently described Umingmtakstrangylus pallikuukensis), Elaphostrongylinae, and the Varestrongylinae (excluding Pneumocaulus kadenazii). Varestrongylus was paraphyletic as it included Pneumostrongylus calcaratus. The second major clade consisted of a paraphyletic group containing Protostrongylus spp. and Spiculocaulus leuckarti and, basal to this subclade, several other individual protostrongylid lineages. The various subclades generally correspond to the subfamilial divisions of the Protostrongylidae. The Neostrongylinae, however, is not supported as Neostrongylus and Orthostrongylus are not sister groups. Based on a large number of hypothesized synapomorphies, the elaphostrongylines appear to be a highly derived group of protostrongylids, a feature potentially correlated with their habitat localization in muscular and nervous tissues. The generic-level tree retained most of the primary structure revealed among the species but excluded the varestrongylines from the Muelleriinae + Elaphostrongylinae subclade. Artiodactyles of the family Cervidae are considered basal hosts for protostrongylids; secondary colonization in Caprini, Rupicaprini, and among lagomorphs is postulated.  相似文献

Penetrating infective juveniles of Romanomermis culicivorax usually killed first-stage larvae of Chironomus maturus Johann., Chironomus sp., Simulium damnosum Theo., and S. venustum Say. Nematodes were melanized and died after they entered fourth stage larvae of 2 chironomid species, but no host reaction was evident after entry into fourth-stage blackfly larvae. In contrast, the nematodes initiated development in the latter hosts, which died before the nematodes completed their development.  相似文献

The presence and diversity of beetle pathogens associated with different tree species in Bulgaria was investigated. In total, 818 specimens belonging to 22 beetle species were examined. Pathogens occurred in 9 host species. The infections were found in the gut (virus, nematodes, protozoans, microsporidia) and haemolymph (nematodes) of the infected insects. The following pathogen species: ItEPV, Beauveria bassiana, B. brongniartii, Isaria farinosa, Gregarina typographi, Gregarina spp., Chytridiopsis typographi, Chytridiopsis sp., and nematodes were revealed. Insects with mycoses were mummified and filled up with fungal structures, formed pseudosclerotium. Most pathogens were established in bark beetles (Scolytinae). For the first time, the fungus B. bassiana was reported in Tomicus piniperda, Orthotomicus longicollis, O. erosus, X. spinole, Taphrorychus villifrons and Phylobius sp. in Bulgaria. We also present the first records of gregarines in O. longicollis, Acanthocinus aedilis, Rhagium inquisitor, Pyrochroa coccinea, and of the microsporidium Chytridiopsis sp. in O. longicollis.  相似文献

Gekkotaenia novaeguineaensis n. gen., n. sp. (Cestoda: Anoplocephalidae) from the small intestine and Cosmocerca zugi n. sp. (Nematoda: Cosmocercidae) from the large intestine of the ring-tailed gecko, Cyrtodactylus louisiadensis (Sauria: Gekkonidae) are described and illustrated. Gekkotaenia novaeguineaensis n. gen., n. sp. is unique among the acraspedote Linstowiinae in possessing a poral female reproductory system. Cosmocerca zugi n. sp. is the 22nd species to be assigned to the genus and differs from other species in the genus by possessing 4 pairs of rosette papillae on plectanes and having a gubernaculum longer than the spicules. It is the fifth species to be described from the Australian biogeographical region. Eight additional helminth species were found: the digenean, Allopharynx macallisteri; 2 cestodes, cysticercoids of Cyclophyllidea gen. sp. and tetrathyridia of Mesocestoides sp.; 5 nematodes, larvae in cysts of Abbreviata sp., Aplectana macintoshii, Oswaldocruzia bakeri, Parapharyngodon maplestonei, and an undescribed species of Physalopteroides. Cyrtodactylus louisiadensis represents a new host record for each of these helminths.  相似文献

Systemic brucellosis caused by Brucella melitensis biovar 3 was identified in a chamois (Rupicapra rupicapra) near the Parc National des Ecrins in the southern French Alps (France). Clinical signs included orchiepididymitis, polyarthritis, blindness and various neurological signs; necropsy findings included numerous calcified foci in testis, epididymis, kidney, subcutaneous connective tissue and brain. Brucella sp. were identified in brain by indirect immunofluorescence and B. melitensis biovar 3 was isolated from testis, kidney, eye, lung and joints. This report describes the first case of brucellosis and Brucella sp. isolation in chamois in France and the first case of B. melitensis isolation in this host species.  相似文献

A parasitological study of rays captured on the Atlantic continental shelf off the estuary Muros-Noia in NW Spain (42 degrees 35' to 42 degrees 41' N, 9 degrees 2' to 9 degrees 10' W; mean capture depth 11.6 +/- 4.1 m) was performed. A total of 128 rays were examined: 52 specimens of Raja microocellata, 60 of R. brachyura, 6 of R. montagui, 3 of R. undulata and 7 of an unidentified Raja species, known locally as 'fancheca'. A total of 23 macroparasite species were detected: 5 monogeneans (Acanthocotyle sp., Calicotyle kroyeri, Empruthotrema raiae, Merizocotyle undulata, Rajonchocotyle emarginata), 11 cestodes (Acanthobothrium sp., Crossobothrium sp., Echeneibothrium sp., Echinobothrium brachysoma, Grillotia erinaceus, Grillotia sp., Lecanicephalum sp., Nybelinia lingualis, Onchobothrium uncinatum, Phyllobothrium lactuca, Tritaphros retzii), 6 nematodes (Anisakis simplex, Hysterothylacium sp., Histodytes microocellatus, Piscicapillaria freemani, Proleptus sp., Pseudanisakis baylisi) and a copepod (Holobomolochus sp.). All parasite species were present in several ray species, except for Acanthocotyle sp. and G. erinaceus (detected only in R. brachyura), H. microocellatus (detected only in R. microocellata) and T. retzii (detected only in R. montagui). Three species (C. kroyeri, M. undulata, E. brachysoma) have not been reported previously from Spain. The host with the highest parasite species richness was R. brachyura (18 species), followed by R. microocellata (17) and the unidentified Raja species (14). The parasite with the highest prevalence in R. microocellata was M. undulata, followed by R. emarginata, Acanthobothrium sp. and Echeneibothrium sp. The species with the highest prevalence in R. brachyura was R. emarginata, followed by C. kroyeri and P. baylisi. Some differences in parasite prevalence were detected between sexes and among size classes in both R. brachyura and R. microocellata.  相似文献

A larvoscopic examination of faeces collected from localities inhibited by chamois in the Tatra National Park (TANAP) in 1997 demonstrated the presence of the lung nematodes Muellerius spp. (likely to be M. tenuispiculatus and M. capillaris) and Neostrongylus linearis. The overall prevalence of lung nematodes in chamois herds in TANAP was 48.4% with prevalences of 45.6% and 11.9% for Muellerius spp. and N. linearis, respectively. No significant differences in lung nematode prevalences were observed in the biotopes of TANAP with prevalence values of 44.9% being recorded in the High Tatras and 58.5% in the Belianske Tatras. Individual species were in equal proportion in both biotopes, although N. linearis was significantly less prevalent (11.2-13.8%). The prevalence of lung nematodes in the High Tatras varied from 25.0 to 84.2% within individual localities, while in the Belianske Tatras it was more proportionate (50.0-85.7%). In the High Tatras, the prevalence of lung nematodes in the chamois herds peaked during August, declining to its lowest in October. A similar prevalence was also recorded for Muellerius species, while the minimum prevalence of N. linearis was found in July. In the Belianske Tatras, the prevalence of lung nematodes including both species of Muellerius peaked in July and gradually decreased until October. On the other hand, N. linearis was most prevalent in October. The mean L1 count per gram faeces was low (7.6 +/- 13.2 larvae g-1).  相似文献

Thirty-four adult cane toads Bufo marinus L. (12 males and 22 females) collected from 2 localities in Mexico (Cerro de Oro and Temascal Dams, Oaxaca) in September 2003 were examined for helminth parasites. In total, 14,749 helminths belonging to 14 taxa were collected. Included were 2 adult digeneans (Choledocystus hepaticus, Mesocoelium monas); 1 larval cestode (an unidentified pseudophyllidean); and 11 nematodes, including 3 species of larvae (Contracaecum sp., Physaloptera sp., Physocephalus sexalatus) and 8 species of adults (Aplectana itzocanensis, Cosmocerca sp., Cruzia morleyi, Ochoterenella digiticauda, Oswaldocruzia sp., Raillietnema sp., Rhabdias americanus, and Rhabdiasfuelleborni). Higher species richness was recorded in B. marinus from Cerro de Oro (12 taxa versus 9 in those from Temascal); hosts from both localities shared 7 taxa. There were 25 new locality records, and 2 taxa were registered in Mexico for the first time. To date, 112 helminth species have been recorded parasitizing B. marinus along its native and introduced range of distribution, with 40.5% of them reported from Mexico.  相似文献

A survey of nematodes associated with native and introduced species of terrestrial slugs was conducted in the Western Cape Province of South Africa, in order to gather new data regarding diversity and distribution. A total of 521 terrestrial slugs were collected from 35 localities throughout the Western Cape. All slugs were dissected and examined for the presence of internal nematodes. Extracted nematodes were identified using a combination of molecular (18S rRNA gene sequencing) and morphological techniques. Nematodes were found parasitizing slugs at 14 of the 35 sites examined, amounting to 40% of sample sites. Of all slugs, 6% were infected with nematodes. A total of seven species of nematode were identified in the province, including Agfa flexilis, Angiostoma sp., Phasmarhabditis sp. SA1, Phasmarhabditis sp. SA2, Caenorhabditis elegans, Panagrolaimus sp. and Rhabditis sp. Of these species, four were thought to be parasitic to slugs (A. flexilis, Angiostoma sp., Phasmarhabditis sp. SA1 and Phasmarhabditis sp. SA2), as opposed to forming necromenic or phoretic associations. Three new species of slug-parasitic nematode were identified during this study (Angiostoma sp., Phasmarhabditis sp. SA1 and Phasmarhabditis sp. SA2).  相似文献

Eighty California quail (Callipepla californica), collected from the E. E. Wilson Wildlife Area near Monmouth, Oregon (USA) during a 22 mo period, were examined for gastrointestinal helminths. Eight birds were infected with three species of nematodes, Heterakis isolonche, Dispharynx nasuta, and Capillaria sp., and two species of cestodes, Rhabdometra odiosa and Davainea sp. Except for D. nasuta, prevalence did not exceed 5% despite mesic conditions in the collection area. Two mountain quail (Oreortyx pictus) were collected from Lane County, Oregon (USA), near Blue River Reservoir; both were infected with the nematode Trichostrongylus tenuis.  相似文献

One hundred and eighty one fungal species that were isolated from the fresh fruiting bodies collected in the Mountains of Pu Er County of Yunnan Province, China were tested on the pine wood nematode,Bursaphelenchus xylophilus in vitro. Each fungal species was grown in Czapek broth and potato dextrose broth (PDB). Fifteen filtrates fromAmauroderma austrosinense, Amauroderma macer, Filoboletus sp.,Laccaria tortilis, Lactarius gerardii, Lentinula edodes, Oudemansiella longipes, Oudemansiella mucida, Peziza sp.,Pleurotus sp.,Sinotermitomyces carnosus (two strains),Strobilomyces floccopus, Termitomyces albuminosus, Tylopilus striatulus grown on PDB were found to be pathogenic to the tested nematodes. Eleven filtrates fromAmanita junguillea, Amanita sp.,Daedalea sepiaria, Fistulina hepatica, Omphalotus olearius, Oudemansiella mucida, Peziza sp.,Pleurotus pulmatus, Ramaria sp.,Tricholoma conglobatum, Tylopilus striatulus grown on Czapek broth were also pathogenic to the nematodes. When screening for nematicidal potential of fungi, it is important to study the growth medium conditions necessary to obtain the optimal nematicidal effect as fungal filtrates growing on different liquid media showed a very inconsistent toxicity towards nematodes.  相似文献

Eleven of 27 (41%) parthenogenetic Colorado checkered whiptails (Cnemidophorus tesselatus) from four counties of western and southwestern Texas were infected with one or more helminths. These included a linstowiid cestode (Oochoristica sp.), a larval spirurid nematode (Physaloptera sp.) and two species of oxyurid nematodes (Parathelandros texanus and Pharyngodon warneri). This note, the first in a series of reports on helminths of Cnemidophorus spp., represents the first record of parasites from C. tesselatus.  相似文献

Three out of 18 examined common mole-rats ( Cryptomys sp., Xkaryotype 2n = 58) from Zambia were infested with cestodes ( Inermicapsifer nmdagascariensis and an undetermined species) and a nematode ( Protospirura muricola ). Four out of 14 examined Zambian giant mole-rats ( Cryptomys mechowi ) hosted cestodes ( Raillietina (R) sp. and an undetermined species) and nematodes ( Protospirura muricola, Capillaria sp.). Helminths and circumstances of findings are briefly described. No ectoparasites were found. The influences of subterranean and social way of life and feeding habits upon occurrence of parasites in mole-rats are discussed. Burrow conditions and social behaviour seem not to favour infestation by parasites.  相似文献
