The state of marine and estuary organisms living in the polluted coastal zone of Peter the Great Bay in the Sea of Japan has been estimated using molecular biomarkers of oxidative stress and biotransformation that characterize changes in animal metabolism under the effect of pollutants. The integral biochemical indices were calculated and graphically represented for mussels Crenomytilus grayanus collected at marine stations with different degrees of pollution and for the Japanese mitten crab Eriocheir japonica from the estuaries of rivers flowing into Peter the Great Bay, based on statistical processing of the results. It has been noted that the values of the indices correspond to the degree of pollution of animal sampling areas.  相似文献

The larva of the hermit crab Diogenes nitidimanus Terao, 1913 was found in the ballast waters of the tanker Minotaur that arrived from the Chinese port of Laizhou (Bohai Bay, Yellow Sea). Earlier, an abundant population of mature adults of D. nitidimanus was found in Vostok Bay (Peter the Great Bay), this suggested the introduction and naturalization of this species in the Peter the Great Bay. The finding of its larva in ballast waters of a ship on the Russia-China route confirms the introduction of this species into Peter the Great Bay.  相似文献

The seasonal and long-term dynamics of the species composition and abundance of dinoflagellates that live in subtidal sands in Russian waters of the Sea of Japan was studied for the first time. The overall species composition of sand-dwelling dinoflagellates in Peter the Great Bay was represented by 67 taxa that belong to 25 genera. Among them, 17 species were recorded for the first time from the seas of Russia, and 8 species were found from the Pacific coast of Russia for the first time. The greatest number of species belonged to the genera Amphidinium, Amphidiniopsis, and Thecadinium. A list of the species composition, including the distribution of taxa throughout the localities and seasons, is presented. Most species of the microalgae are illustrated by light and scanning electron micrographs. The species richness varied from 18 to 44 during the year. In the winter, at a water temperature less than 0°C, the species richness of sand-dwelling dinoflagellates (24–26 taxa) roughly coincided with that found in summer (20–44 taxa). The average density of dinoflagellates ranged from 16 to 1121 cells/cm3 across localities and throughout the year. During the annual cycle, the highest cell density (595 and 2576 cells/cm3) were recorded in the winter–spring period and a slight increase in abundance was observed in fall. This was due to the high cell densities of the dominant species Amphidiniopsis uroensis Toriumi, Yoshimatsu et Dodge, and Thecadinium kofoidii (E.C. Herdman) Larsen. Sand-dwelling dinoflagellates contributed 58 to 80% to the total annual density of the subtidal microphytobenthos in different localities of Peter the Great Bay.  相似文献

A previous molecular-genetic analysis of clonal cultures and single cells of Ostreopsis spp. that were isolated from Peter the Great Bay (the Sea of Japan) revealed three different genotypes according to the nucleotide sequences of ribosomal DNA (rDNA). Of these, Ostreopsis sp. 1 was earlier found only off the coast of Japan and described as being the most common and highly toxic. We have obtained further molecular evidence and have studied the morphological features of cells from one of the Ostreopsis strains with this genotype and some aspects of its growth at salinities of 24, 28, and 32‰. The results showed that in cells from the Russian coast of the Sea of Japan, the third apical (3') and the third precingular (3") plates do not adjoin one another, being separated by the elongated second apical (2') plate. Cells of Ostreopsis sp. 1 from the Russian coast are significantly larger than Ostreopsis sp. 1 cells with the same genotype from the coast of Japan. Salinity did not have a substantial effect on the growth of Ostreopsis sp. 1. The growth rate varied from 0.24 to 0.35 divisions per day, with maximum values at a salinity of 24‰. When salinity decreased to 24‰, the exponential growth phase was significantly extended and the maximum cell concentration doubled.  相似文献

Comparison of the results of ichthyoplankton surveys conducted at 97 stations in the eastern part of the Peter the Great Bay of the Sea of Japan, in June–July 2007 with the similar research data of the 1950s shows that at present, as was the case 50 years ago, flatfish eggs belonging mainly to the yellowfin sole Limanda aspera and brown sole Pleuronectes herzensteini prevail in the local ichthyoplankton (up to 86%). The highest concentrations of these species’ eggs were recorded in the Vostok Bay and Strelok Bay. The spawning activity of flatfish in 2007 is found to be lower than in the mid 1900s, but the significance of the eastern part of the Peter the Great Bay for flatfish reproduction remains large. The importance of long-term monitoring in this area, which is being subjected to steadily growing anthropogenic impacts, is also proven.  相似文献

The seasonal dynamics in the level of fucose-containing sulfated polysaccharides (fucoidans) have been studied in three brown alga species from Peter the Great Bay, Sea of Japan: Saccharina japonica, Sargassum pallidum, and Stephanocystis crassipes. In the latter two species, seasonal variations in the fucoidan content have been analyzed for the first time. During the year, the level of fucoidan in S. japonica varied from 0.98 to 4.19% dry weight; in S. crassipes, from 2.50 to 5.23%; in S. pallidum, from 1.86 to 6.31%. The maximum amount of this polysaccharide is accumulated in algae during reproduction: in August–October for S. japonica; in June and July for S. crassipes; and in July for S. pallidum. No significant correlation has been found between the level of fucoidan in algal tissues and the annual dynamics in sea water temperature, salinity, and concentration of biogenic elements. The obtained data can be helpful in determining the time to harvest algae for fucoidan extraction.  相似文献

The taxonomic composition of marine mycelial fungi was determined in the interstitial habitats of the Vostok Bay littoral (Peter the Great Bay, the Sea of Japan). A total of 39 species of ascomycetes and anamorphic fungi were detected and identified. The predominant species of the intertidal zone were Corollospora maritima, C. lacera, Carbosphaerella leptosphaerioides, Arenariomyces trifurcatus (Ascomycota), Alternaria alternata, Scolecobasidium arenarium, and Zalerion maritimum (anamorphic fungi). The complete list of species of obligately marine ascomycetes and anamorphic fungi from the interstitial habitats of the Vostok Bay littoral is presented for the first time  相似文献

The morphology of the potentially toxic dinoflagellate Prorocentrum foraminosum was examined in detail using light and scanning electron microscopy for the first time for the seas of Russia. New morphological features of this species were found and documented. Long-term observations showed that P. foraminosum occurred regularly from April to November in the epiphytic assemblages of Peter the Great Bay. The highest cell abundance was recorded in June (1.5 × 103 cells/g macrophyte dry weight). This dinoflagellate was also found rarely at a low cell densities in coastal sands.  相似文献

In the Peter the Great Bay (the Sea of Japan), reproduction and embryonic larval development of Pholis picta and Opisthocentrus zonope are investigated. Both species spawn in November–December at the water temperature decreasing from 7.0 to 0.2°C. Fecundity of Pholis picta is 494–1228 eggs, and of Opisthocentrus zonope—368–1360 eggs. Both species lay eggs in empty shells of Gray mussel. Parent fish permanently stay in the shell but do not actively care for the eggs. Morphological changes in the process of embryogenesis are compared between the related species. Prolarvae and larvae are described for identification, with special attention to pigmentation. The spawning behavior of adult fish and behavior of prolarvae are described.  相似文献

The distribution and growth of the bivalve mollusk Protothaca euglypta in Peter the Great Bay and at the northern boundary of its area were investigated. It is shown that in some biotopes P. euglypta biomass reaches 1–2 kg/m2, which exceeds the estimated values of abundance obtained for most associated species of mollusks. It has been established that local variability of P. euglypta growth rates can be compared with latitudinal variability, and the life span increases from the southern part of the area towards its northern boundary. It has been concluded that P. euglypta occupies a more prominent position in the malacofauna of shallow waters in its abundance, than it was considered earlier.  相似文献

The features of the group linear growth of the bivalve Callista brevisiphonata were studied over a large part of its range in the Sea of Japan along the mainland coast of Russia. It was found that in the south of the species range in the Peter the Great Bay, the shell length in individuals of the same age can differ by almost 1.5 times, depending on the position of the population relative to the open sea. With propagation from south to north, trends to a decreasing growth rate and a narrowing of the range of age variation in shell length were recorded in C. brevisiphonata populations. It was shown that the clams need 5–18 years to reach their commercial size (a shell length of more than 70 mm). The observed differences in growth rate are considered in connection to the habitat environment of C. brevisiphonata.  相似文献

This paper deals with the size, age, and sex structure of population and growth of the Japanese littleneck clam Ruditapes philippinarum in Amursky Bay (Peter the Great Bay, Sea of Japan). One-year-olds and individuals with a shell length less than 19.8 mm were not found in the population under study. The population consisted mostly of 3-4-year-old clams (72.4%) with a shell length of 35–45 mm (67.8%). The maximum recorded age of R. philippinarum was 7 years, and maximum shell length was 52.7 mm. The male to female ratio was approximately 2: 1. Hermaphroditism (2.1%) and parasitic castration (1.4%) were observed. Linear growth rates of clams were found to increase until the age of three years old (11.6 ± 0.6 mm/year). Mollusks reach a commercial size of over 35 mm in shell length in the fourth year of life. The parameters of the von Bertalanffy equation describing group linear growth were L = 56.6 mm, k = 0.302 year?1, and t 0 = 0.468 year. The relationship between the shell length and the wet body weight is described by the equation W = 0.000253L2.954.  相似文献

Bacilli of the species Bacillus subtilis, B. pumilus, B. mycoides, B. marinus and B. licheniformis (a total of 53 strains) were isolated from 15 invertebrate species and the water of the Vostok Bay, Peter the Great Bay, Sea of Japan. Bacilli were most often isolated from bivalves (22.7%) and sea cucumbers (18.9%); they occurred less frequently in sea urchins and starfish (13.2 and 7.5%, respectively). Most of bacilli strains were isolated from invertebrates inhabiting silted sediments. No Bacillus spp. strains were isolated from invertebrates inhabiting stony and sandy environments. The species diversity of bacilli isolated from marine objects under study was low. Almost all bacterial isolates were resistant to lincomycin. Unlike B. pumilus, B. subtilis isolates were mostly resistant to benzylpenicillin and ampicillin. Antibiotic sensitivity of B. licheniformis strains was variable (two strains were resistant to benzylpenicillin and oxacillin, while one was sensitive). A significant fraction of isolated bacilli contained pigments. Pigmented strains were more often isolated from seawater samples, while colorless ones predominated within hydrobionts. B. subtilis colonies had the broadest range of colors. In the Bacillus strains obtained, DNase, RNase, phosphatase, elastolytic, chitinase, and agarolytic activity was detected. Bacilli strains with hydrolytic activity occurred in invertebrates more often than in seawater.  相似文献

The occurrence of the solitary ascidian Ciona savignyi Herdman, 1882 in Vostok Bay (Peter the Great Bay, Sea of Japan) was first documented in 2004. Adult specimens occurred in fouling communities of floating docks in Gaidamak Bay and on different anthropogenic substrates. The introduction of this ascidian into Vostok Bay is attributable to fishing ships which regularly frequent ports of Japan and to favorable environmental conditions (temperature and salinity of seawater).  相似文献

Based on the analysis of original material (52 specimens of Pallasina barbata larvae and juveniles), sampled in the Peter the Great Bay (Sea of Japan) from 1992 to 2006, the ontogenetic stages of this species were described for the first time. It is shown that P. barbata has a planktonic larval stage in its development. The major morphologic features that are typical for larvae and juveniles during their development were revealed. It was shown that snout length, head length and pectoral fin size are increased with growth; at the same time body height and eye diameter are decreased, and the nature of larval pigmentation is changed. The main differences between P. barbata and close species are shown. Original illustrations of larvae and juvenile are provided.  相似文献

This paper provides an overview of pea crabs of the genus Pinnixa White, 1846 (Brachyura: Pinnotheridae) that occur along the Russian coast of the Sea of Japan. Three species of the genus have been recorded for this area: P. tumida Stimpson, 1858, P. rathbuni Sakai, 1934, as well as P. banzu Komai, Nishi & Taru, 2014, which is the first record for the fauna of Russia. All species clearly differ ecologically: P. tumida was found in Posyet Bay in the intestine of the burrowing holothurian Paracaudina chilensis (Müller, 1850); P. rathbuni, in burrows of the echiuroid Urechis unicinctus (von Drasche, 1881); and P. banzu, in tubes of the polychaete Chaetopterus cautus Marenzeller, 1879. The paper also provides a definitive key to Pinnixa species and data on the size, behavior, symbionts, and parasites of P. rathbuni and P. banzu.  相似文献
