ABSTRACT. The responses of adult male Spodoptera littoralis (Boisd.) (Noctuidae) to components of the female sex pheromone were examined in a wind tunnel. The responses of male moths from both Egyptian and Cretan stocks to the primary 'attractant' (Z, E)-9,11 tetradecadienyl acetate (III), were compared with the responses to III combined with various percentages of the secondary components tetradecyl acetate (I), (Z)-9-tetradecenyl acetate (IIA), (E)-11-tetradecenyl acetate (IIB), IIA and IIB combined, and(Z, E)-9,12-tetradecadienyl acetate (IV). Analysis of the flight behaviour recorded on videotape showed that with one exception (IV), the secondary components increased the males' success in reaching the source and increased the length of time they spent at the source. In most cases, increasing the relative percentage of the secondary component caused a reduction in the number of males responding. The results are compared with those obtained in field trials with S.littoralis.  相似文献

ABSTRACT In field-trapping experiments the unsaturated analogues ( E )-6-, ( E )-12-, and ( Z )-12-tetradecenyl acetate were as attractive to male Yponomeuta rorellus Latr. as the native pheromone component tetradecyl acetate. All four analogues attracted more males than virgin females did, whereas ( Z )-6-, ( E )-11-, ( Z )-10- and ( Z )-11-tetradecenyl acetate were essentially non-attractive. Addition of 1–30% of ( Z )-11-tetradecenyl acetate to the pheromone tetradecyl acetate reduced the attraction to less than 2%. Flight tunnel experiments with Y. rorellus confirmed the activity of the ( E )-6- and ( E )-12-tetradecenyl acetates and demonstrated the activity of ( E )-7-tetradecenyl acetate as well. These analogues elicited orientation behaviour, upwind flight and landing at the odour source as frequently as the native pheromone did. Single sensillum recordings from male Y. rorellus showed two types of cells in most sensilla. A large spike amplitude cell was stimulated by tetradecyl acetate and the unsaturated analogues ( E )-11-, ( E )-6- and ( E )-12-tetradecenyl acetate, and to a lower extent by the ( Z )-6-, ( Z )-11- and ( Z )-12-isomers. A cell with medium spike amplitude was stimulated by ( Z )-9-tetradecenyl and ( Z )-11-hexadecenyl acetate. Some sensilla contained a third cell firing with a small spike amplitude which was activated by ( Z )-11-tetradecenol. Thus the tetradecyl acetate receptor was stimulated not only by the behaviourally active analogues, but also by behavioural antagonists. The interaction of ( E )-11-tetra-decenyl acetate and tetradecyl acetate with the same antennal receptor cell was also demonstrated in Y.cagnagellus . Electrophysiological discrimination between behavioural attractants and antagonists and the role of behavioural antagonists in the interspecific relations between Y.rorellus and sympatric closely related species are discussed.  相似文献

Gas chromatography and mass spectrometry analyses of crude sex pheromone gland extracts revealed that virgin Synanthedon tipuliformis (Clerck), currant borer (Lepidoptera: Sesiidae) females, produced 6 compounds, structurally related to sex pheromone components of clearwing moths. By comparison of retention times and mass spectra of natural products with corresponding properties of synthetic standards, these compounds were identified as: (2E,13Z)-octadeca-2,13-dien-1-yl acetate (E2,Z13-18:OAc), (3E,13Z)-octadeca-3,13-dien-1-yl acetate (E3,Z13-18:OAc), (13Z)-octadec-13-en-1-yl acetate (Z13-18:OAc), (2E,13Z)-octadeca-2,13-dien-1-ol (E2,Z13-18:OH), (13Z)-octadec-13-en-1-ol (Z13-18:OH) and octadecan-1-ol (18:OH) in the ratio 100:0.7:2.7:3.2:traces:traces. The first 3 compounds were previously known to occur in the sex pheromone gland extracts of currant borers, while the last 3 chemicals are now reported for the first time. Trapping tests carried out in the black currant field revealed that E2,Z13-18:OAc, when tested separately, attracted S. tipuliformis males, while addition of E3,Z13-18:OAc to the main component increased the effectiveness of E2,Z13-18:OAc over seven times. The attractiveness of 6 component lures did not differ significantly from the one of the binary mixture, confirming that E2,Z13-18:OAc and E3,Z13-18:OAc in the ratio100:0.7 are essential sex pheromone components of S. tipuliformis. Trapping tests carried out at the dwelling place of Synanthedon scoliaeformis (Borkhausen) (Lepidoptera: Sesiidae) revealed that, in addition to intraspecific synergistic effect, E3,Z13-18:OAc increased the specificity of the pheromone signal of S. tipuliformis, acting by intraspecific mode as an attraction antagonist against S. scoliaeformis males. By this way, it ensured the specificity of the sex attraction signal of the currant borer. Consequently, both compounds E2,Z13-18:OAc and E3,Z13-18:OAc have to be present in pheromone formulations used for monitoring and/or control of S. tipuliformis to avoid effecting non-target species. Other compounds identified from the sex pheromone gland of S. tipuliformis did not show any significant interspecific activity for males of S. scoliaeformis, however, they provide a basis to achieve specificity of a pheromone signal of S. tipuliformis and could act as attraction antagonists against other clearwing moth species which, like S. tipuliformis, employ E2,Z13-18:OAc as their sex pheromone component.  相似文献

The sex pheromone of the monophagous Acrobasis nuxvorella Neunzig (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) was reported as (9E,11Z)-hexadecadienal (9E,11Z-16:Ald) (Biorg. Med. Chem. 4: 331-339, 1996), and it has since been an effective integrated pest management (IPM) tool for monitoring this pest in the United States, but not in Mexico. Field and laboratory studies were conducted to confirm that the species in Mexico was indeed A. nuxvorella and to investigate the pheromone chemistry of the Mexican populations of this species. Initial field trials testing compounds structurally related to the known pheromone component, and blends thereof, indicated that a 100 microg:100 microg blend of (9E,11Z)-hexadecadien-1-yl acetate (9E,11Z-16:Ac):9E,11Z-16:Ald in rubber septa was effective in attracting male moths in Mexico. Coupled gas chromatography-electroantennogram analyses confirmed the presence of these compounds in extracts of pheromone glands of females, and antennae of male moths also responded to the alcohol analog (9E,11Z)-hexadecadien-1-ol (9E,11Z-16:OH). Subsequent field trials of various blends of these three compounds in Mexico showed that 1) both the acetate and aldehyde components were required for optimal attraction of male moths of the Mexican populations, and 2) addition of the alcohol suppressed attraction of males in a dose-dependent manner. Tests with the 1:1 9E,11Z-16:Ac:9E,11Z-16:Ald blend at various sites in the United States showed that this blend attracted some moths, but that moths attracted to 9E,11Z-16:Ald alone were predominant in the population. Furthermore, in preliminary studies the latter seemed not to respond to the blend. These findings indicate that there are two pheromone types of the pecan nut casebearer, and they have major implications for the direct use of these pheromones in pecan IPM.  相似文献

ABSTRACT. Response of male moths to sex pheromones differs markedly depending on blend composition. Natural selection can therefore be expected to favour males responding maximally to the blend produced by most females in the population. Thus it is relevant to quantify male response by the blend to which the males of a population respond maximally.
To do this, wind tunnel experiments were carried out where males were observed while responding to blends of synthetic compounds emitted from rubber septa. By stepwise improvement it was shown that the blend to which Yponomeuta cagnagellus responds maximally comprises (Z)11-tetradecenyl acetate (Z11-14Ac), ( E )11-tetradecenyl acetate (E11-14Ac), (Z)11-tetradecenol (Z11-140H), and tetradecyl acetate (14Ac) in the ratio 100(=50μg):1.5:20:45.
The innovate aspects of the method used to obtain this result, are the use of a direct search approach as an integral part of the experimental procedure and the use of a summary variable to characterize male response. These aspects are discussed using the data on the response of Y. cagnagellus males.  相似文献

Hellula undalis is a harmful insect pest of green mustard in the Mekong Delta of Vietnam. In order to establish a tool for a sustainable pest control program, the sex pheromone of H. undalis inhabiting the Mekong Delta was examined. GC-EAD and GC–MS analyses of pheromone gland extracts from the virgin females elucidated three new components, (Z)-11-tetradecenyl acetate (Z11-14:OAc), (Z)-11-hexadecenal (Z11-16:Ald), and (11E,13E)-11,13-hexadecadien-1-ol, in addition to the known pheromone component (11E,13E)-11,13-hexadecadienal (E11,E13-16:Ald). Double bond positions of the two monoenyl components were determined by GC–MS analysis of the pheromone extract treated with dimethyl disulfide. On the other hand, GC–MS analysis of the female body extract detected the unsaturated hydrocarbon (3Z,6Z,9Z)-3,6,9-tricosatriene (Z3,Z6,Z9-23:H). Field examinations of their synthetic compounds indicated the significant role of E11,E13-16:Ald as a major component and a clear synergistic effect of the two monoenyl compounds as a minor component. Although the 3:3:7 mixture of Z11-14:OAc, E11-16:Ald, and E11,E13-16:Ald captured the largest number of males among the tested mixtures, the activity was still quite a bit lower than that of virgin females. However, the 3:3:7:1 mixture, which was prepared by adding a small amount of Z3,Z6,Z9-23:H to the 3:3:7 ternary lure, succeeded in attracting males more powerfully than the females did. This strong synergistic effect was not observed when the triene was added to unmixed E11,E13-16:Ald, indicating important roles of not only the triene but also the two monoenyl compounds as natural pheromone components.  相似文献

Natural odors occur as turbulent plumes resulting in spatiallyand temporally variable odor signals at the chemoreceptor cells.Concentrations can fluctuate widely within discrete packetsof odor and individual packets are very intermittent and unpredictable.Chemoreceptor cells display the temporally dynamic propertiesof adaptation and disadaptation, which serve to alter theirresponses to these fluctuating odor patterns. A computationalmodel, modified from one previously published, was used to investigate, the effect of adaptation and recovery of adaptation (disadaptation)on the spike output of model olfectory receptor cells undernatural stimulus conditions. The response characteristics ofmodel cells were based upon empirically determined dose-response,adaptation, disadaptation and flicker fusion properties of peripheralolfactory cells. The physiological properties of the model cell(adaptation and disadaptation rate and the dose-response relationship)could be modified independently, allowing assessment of therole of each in shaping the responses of the model cell. Completeadaptation and disadaptation time courses ranged from 500 ms(rapid cells) to 10 s (slow cells). The stimuli for the modelcells were quantified odor plume recordings obtained under avariety of biologically relevant flow conditions. As expected, the rapidly adapting model cells displayed different responsecharacteristics than the slowly adapting model cells to identicaltemporal odor profiles. Responses of the model cells dependedupon their adaptation and disadaptation rates, and the frequencycharacteristics of the odor presentation. These results indicatethat adaptation and disadaptation determine the range of concentrationfluctuations over which a particular cell will respond. Thus, these properties function as an olfactory equivalent of a band-passfilter in electronics. This type of filtering has implicationsfor the extraction of information from odor signals, men isthe coding of temporal and intensity features.  相似文献

Abstract The sex attractant of the female redbanded leafroller moth, Argyrotaenia velutinana (Walker), is a blend of seven compounds. Specialized olfactory receptor neurones had been found for only two of the compounds, (Z)-11-tetradecenyl acetate (Z11-14:Ac) and (E)-11-tetradecenyl acetate (E11–14:Ac). These receptor neurones were always found in pairs within the long trichoid sensilla, which are the most abundant multi-pored sensilla on the male antenna. A systematic survey of all regions of the male antenna with standard extracellular recording techniques was undertaken to find receptor neurones responsive to the remaining five minor components of the female pheromone. Of the 113 long trichoid sensilla sampled, all contained two receptor neurones, one specialized for Z11–14:Ac and a second specialized for Ell –14:Ac. A comparable number of recordings were then obtained from the less abundant classes of multi-pored sensilla. Two new receptor neurone types were found, responsive to the minor pheromone components (E)-9-dodecenyl acetate (E9-12:Ac) and (Z)-9-dodecenyl acetate (Z9-12:Ac). Scanning electron micrographs indicated that these recordings were obtained from shorter, narrower trichoid sensilla. The majority of these sensilla appeared to contain three neurones capable of spontaneous action potential production. In each sensillum, only one receptor neurone appeared to respond to stimulation with a minor component of the female blend. The remaining two neurones did not respond to the chemical stimuli evaluated.  相似文献

Three percent of E-strain Ostrinia nubilalis males fly upwind in response to the Ostrinia furnacalis pheromone blend [a 40:60 ratio of (E)-12-tetradecenyl acetate to (Z)-12-tetradecenyl acetate (E12-14:OAc to Z12-14:OAc)], in addition to their own pheromone blend [a 99:1 ratio of (E)-11-tetradecenyl acetate to (Z)-11-tetradecenyl acetate) (E11-14:OAc to Z11-14:OAc)]. We assessed the olfactory receptor neuron (ORN) responses of these behaviorally "rare" males versus those of normal males. For the three ORNs housed within each sensillum, we tested responsiveness to Z12-14:OAc, E12-14:OAc, Z11-14:OAc, E11-14:OAc, and the behavioral antagonist (Z)-9-tetradecenyl acetate (Z9-14:OAc). Z11-14:OAc, E11-14:OAc, and Z9-14:OAc stimulated ORNs exhibiting distinct small, large, and medium spike sizes, respectively. For rare and normal males, both Z12-14:OAc and E12-14:OAc usually elicited responses from the largest-spiking ORN. In many ORNs of normal males, Z12-14:OAc or E12-14:OAc stimulated the smaller-spiking ORN that is responsive to Z11-14:OAc. In rare males, detectable ORN responses from the smaller-spiking ORN in response to Z12- and E12-14:OAc were virtually non-existent. These differences in ORN tuning in rare males will tend to create an ORN firing ratio between the large- and small-spiking ORNs in response to the O. furnacalis blend that is similar to that elicited by the O. nubilalis blend.  相似文献

Olfactory receptor neuron (ORN) response was measured to assess why some males ("rare males") of the Asian corn borer (ACB), Ostrinia furnacalis, have a broad behavioral response to fly upwind to both the ACB and the European corn borer (ECB), Ostrinia nubilalis, pheromone blends. We performed single-sensillum electrophysiological recordings on ACB males that had been behaviorally assessed for upwind flight response to the ACB blend [60:40 (Z)-12-tetradecenyl acetate (Z12-14:OAc) to (E)-12-tetradecenyl acetate (E12-14:OAc)], as well as to ECB (Z-strain) and ECB (E-strain) blends [3:97 and 99:1 (Z)-11-tetradecenyl acetate (Z11-14:OAc) to (E)-11-tetradecenyl acetate (E11-14:OAc)]. Sensilla from all types of males had large- and small-spike-sized ORNs responding strongly to Z12- or E12-14:OAc, but weakly to Z11- and E11-14:OAc. In the majority of males ("normal males") that flew upwind only to the ACB blend, Z11-14:OAc elicited responses in an intermediate spike-sized ORN associated with behavioral antagonism that is mainly tuned to (Z)-9-tetradecenyl acetate (Z9-14:OAc). In the rare-type ACB males that flew to both the ACB and ECB pheromone blends, Z11-14:OAc did not stimulate this ORN. Increased responsiveness to ancestral pheromone components by ORNs associated with behavioral antagonism could be instrumental in reproductive character displacement, or in reinforcement and reproductive isolation during speciation by helping to increase assortative mating between males and females in derived populations that use novel sex pheromone blends.  相似文献

Plasma gonadotropin II (GTH II) concentrations were significantly higher (approx. 15-20-fold) in estradiol-17beta (E(2)) treated (1.0 microg or 2.5 microg g(-1) body weight) female black porgy from days 4 to 12 compared with the control. E(2) (1 microg g(-1) wt.) had a stronger stimulation on plasma GTH II in early recrudescent phase (low GSI) males (11-fold) than in high GSI and late spermiating males (2.6-fold, P< 0.05). No effect of androgens (testosterone, T; 5alpha-dihydrotestosterone, DHT) on plasma GTH II levels was observed either sex. The levels of plasma GTH II were stimulated in 1,4,6-androstatriene-3,17-dione (ATD, 1 microg g(-1), 2 microg g(-1) body wt.) and fadrozole-treated (1 microg g(-1), 3 microg g(-1) body wt.) groups compared to control. Tamoxifen (1 microg g(-1), 3 microg g(-1) body wt.) but not enclomiphene could stimulate high GTH II levels in plasma. In another experiment of ATD in combination with T, T treatment further attenuated the ATD stimulation of plasma GTH II levels. We concluded that GTH II secretion is positively regulated by an estrogen-specific effect in female and male black porgy. Gonadal stage had significant effects on the responsiveness of GTH II to E(2) stimulation in males. A negative aromatase-dependent feedback control of plasma GTH II levels was also suggested in the protandrous black porgy, Acanthopagrus schlegeli.  相似文献

Female-tip washings of the leafroller moth, Pandemis cerasana, were found to contain (E)-11-tetradecenyl acetate, (Z)-11-tetradecenyl acetate, (E)-11-tetradecenol, (Z)-11-tetradecenol and tetradecyl acetate, based on chemical analysis and electroantennogram tests. The relative amounts of these compounds in the gland were ca. 64:21:10:3:2 in the order named. Only (E)-11 and (Z)-11-tetradecenyl acetate were required for attraction of males to trap dispensed in the ratio 3:1, respectively.  相似文献

ABSTRACT. The upwind flight response of individual male lightbrown apple moths, Epiphyas postvittana (Walker), to twenty combinations of the two pheromone components, (E)-11-tetradecenyl acetate (E11-14:OAc) and (E,E)-9,11-tetradecadienyl acetate (E,E-9,11–14:OAc), was observed in a sustained-flight tunnel. At the lowest dosage of E11-14:OAc tested (3 μg), a significantly greater percentage of males flew upwind to and landed at a source emitting 10% E1,E-9, 11–14:OAc than to all other sources. As the source dosage was increased, males showed decreased specificity of upwind flight to ratios of the two components. However, at the highest dosage of E11-14:OAc tested (300 μg), the response specificity of males shifted to blends containing lower percentages of E,E-9,11–14:OAc. The addition of tetradecyl acetate to a blend of the two components did not result in any detectable increase in male response. Analyses of the pheromone glands of individual female Iightbrown apple moths showed that females produced a range of ratios of E11-14;OAc:E,E-9,11–14:OAc from 100:2.2 to 100:11.4 with a median of approximately 100:7, reasonably paralleling the peak response of males. Pre-exposure of males to a blend of the two components, followed by exposure to E11-14:OAc alone (previously reported as a 'memory' effect) resulted in no significant response to E11-14:OAc alone.  相似文献

The electrophysiological and behavioural responses of male Sesamia nonagrioides Lefèbvre (Lepidoptera: Noctuidae) to several synthetic blends of its sex pheromone components were investigated. Electroantennogram (EAG) recordings showed the greatest response to a 77:8:10:5 blend of the four compounds found in the female glands: (Z)-11-hexadecen-1-yl acetate, (Z)-11-hexadecen-1-ol, (Z)-11-hexadecenal and dodecyl acetate. A logistic equation was fitted to the dose-response data and differences in relative EAG responses were analysed by deriving five parameters of this equation. Flight responses of males were also evaluated in a wind tunnel where the proposed blend (77:8:10:5) also elicited the best response. Field tests confirmed the laboratory findings as the 77:8:10:5 blend captured more S. nonagrioides males than other pheromone mixtures and showed more selectivity for male S. nonagrioides over other noctuid species, Discestra trifolii Rottenberg and Lacanobia oleracea L., but not for Mythimna unipuncta Haworth, a species with a sex pheromone composition almost identical to that of S. nonagrioides.  相似文献

The sex pheromone blend of the butterbur borer, Ostrinia zaguliaevi (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) was analyzed by means of gas chromatography-electroantennographic detection (GC-EAD), GC-mass spectrometry and a series of wind-tunnel bioassays. Four EAD-active compounds were detected in the female sex pheromone gland extract, and these were identified as tetradecyl acetate (14:OAc), (Z)-9-tetradecenyl acetate (Z9-14:OAc), (E)-11-tetradecenyl acetate (E11-14:OAc) and (Z)-11-tetradecenyl acetate (Z11-14:OAc). The average amounts ± s.d. of the four compounds in a single sex pheromone gland were 7.9±3.7 ng, 10.1±3.2 ng, 1.1±0.5 ng and 11.6±5.1 ng, respectively. In a wind-tunnel bioassay, the ternary blend of Z9-, E11- and Z11-14:OAc at a ratio found in the sex pheromone gland (45:5:50) elicited the same behavioral responses from the males as did virgin females and pheromone gland extract. Removal of any single compound from the ternary blend significantly diminished the pheromonal activity, whereas addition of 14:OAc to the ternary blend had no effect on the males' behavioral responses. Therefore, it was concluded that the sex pheromone blend of O. zaguliaevi is composed of Z9-14:OAc, E11-14:OAc and Z11-14:OAc at a ratio of 45:5:50.  相似文献

Egg parasitoids are known to use a wide range of chemicals, emitted by plants, host eggs or adults, for host selection. The effect of the sex pheromone components of the lepidopteran olive pests Prays oleae (Lepidoptera: Yponomeutidae) and Palpita unionalis (Lepidoptera: Pyralidae) was studied under laboratory conditions, on the foraging behaviour of the egg parasitoid Trichogramma oleae (Hymenoptera: Trichogrammatidae). The response of T. oleae wasps to ( Z )-7-tetradecenal and ( E )-11-hexadecenal, major sex pheromone components of P. oleae and P. unionalis respectively, depended on the dose of the pheromone used in a Y-tube olfactometer bioassay. ( E )-11-hexadecenal elicited maximum attraction (70%) at a dose of 1 μg, while a dose of 100 μg ( Z )-7-tetradecenal attracted 80% of the tested wasps. ( E )-11-hexadecenyl acetate, the second sex pheromone component of P. unionalis , and the binary blend of ( E )-11-hexadecenyl acetate: ( E )-11-hexadecenal (7:3) were not attractive at these doses. The results of this research are discussed in view that they may be considered as alternatives in the biological control of these pests.

Virgin females of Thysanoplusia intermixta (Lepidoptera; Noctuidae; Plusiinae) produce (5E,7Z)-5,7-dodecadienyl acetate as a main sex pheromone component. GC-MS analysis of the pheromone glands, which were treated with deuterated hexadecanoic, (Z)-11-hexadecenoic, and (Z)-7-dodecenoic acids, showed incorporation of the label into the dienyl component. Their incorporation rates confirmed that its biosynthesis proceeds in the following order: Delta11-desaturation of a C(16) acyl intermediate, chain shortening to a C(12) compound by beta-oxidation, Delta5-desaturation to produce a 5,7-dienyl system, reduction of the acyl group, and acetylation. These deuterated precursors also converted into a minor pheromone component, (Z)-7-docecenyl acetate, which might be prepared by the same pathway except for the step of Delta5-desaturation. While deuterium incorporation into the dienyl acetate was not observed in the extracts treated with other labeled dodecenoic acids with (E)-5-, (Z)-6-, and (E)-7-double bonds, the corresponding dodecenyl acetates were produced. This result showed low substrate specificity of the enzymes for reduction and acetylation. Labeled (Z)-10-hexadecenoic acid was not converted into a dodecenyl acetate, indicating the high substrate specificity of the enzyme for beta-oxidation.  相似文献

The variegated cutworm, Peridroma saucia Hübner, is a lepidopteran pest to a large number of crops in Canada, the United States, and Europe. It was probably naturalized in Japan in the 1970s. The pheromone glands of the female moth include two components with electroantennographic activity in a ratio of 3:1. GC-MS analyses of pheromone extracts untreated and treated with dimethyl disulfide revealed the major component to be (Z)-11-hexadecenyl acetate and the minor component to be (Z)-9-tetradecenyl acetate. The synthetic pheromone was used to attract a large number of males in a vegetable field in Tokyo, which suggests that this species has already become a harmful pest in Japan.  相似文献

Pheromone gland extracts from calling female Plodia interpunctella contained at least seven compounds that consistently elicited electroantennographic responses from male antennae upon gas chromatographic analysis. Three of these compounds were found to be the previously identified gland constituents, i.e., (Z,E)-9,12-tetradecadienyl acetate (Z9,E12-14:OAc), (Z,E)-9,12-tetradecadienal (Z9,E12-14:Ald) and (Z,E)-9,12-tetradecadienol (Z9,E12-14:OH). A fourth EAD-active compound was identified as (Z)-9-tetradecenyl acetate (Z9-14:OAc). The homologue (Z)-11-hexadecenyl acetate (Z11-16:OAc) was also identified in the extracts, but showed no EAD activity. The identity of all five compounds was confirmed by comparison of GC retention times and mass spectra with those of synthetic standards. In flight tunnel tests there were no significant differences in response of male P. interpunctella to the bait containing all four EAD-active compounds and the responses to female gland extacts. A behavioural assay of different two-compound blends in the flight tunnel showed that only addition of the corresponding aldehyde to the major pheromone component Z9,E12-14:OAc raised the male response. A subtractive assay, however, revealed that the exclusion of any of the compounds from the complete four-compound blend reduced its activity significantly. We thus conclude that the female-produced sex pheromone of P. interpunctella consists of at least four components, i.e., Z9,E12-14:OAc, Z9,E12-14:Ald, Z9,E12-14:OH and Z9-14:OAc.In a field trapping test performed in a storage facility, the four-component blend attracted significantly more males of P. interpunctella than traps baited with Z9,E12-14:OAc alone. In contrast, the highest number of Ephestia kuehniella males was found in the traps baited with this major component, suggesting that the secondary pheromone components contribute to the species specificity of the blend.  相似文献
