We examined the growth and development of the trichomycete Smittium culisetae (Harpellales: Legeriomycetaceae) in the larval hosts Simulium vittatum Zetterstedt (Diptera: Simuliidae) and Aedes aegypti (L.) (Diptera: Culicidae) at three temperatures, 17, 22 and 30 C. Trichospore maturation of Sm. culicetae external to the host as well as the ability of these trichospores to colonize new hosts also was investigated. Although the development of Sm. culisetae varied with both temperature and host there was a pattern of maximum trichospore production at 48-72 h postinoculation. In addition thalli under laboratory conditions are capable of spore production after extraction from a host and these trichospores can colonize new hosts. Furthermore this was noted to occur in both host species. These results suggest that synchrony between host and symbiont development is not as tightly coupled as previously assumed.  相似文献

高、低氮浓度对2株真眼点藻的生长和油脂积累的影响   总被引:1,自引:0,他引:1  
【目的】研究氮浓度对真眼点藻纲(Eustigmatophyceae)的2株高产油微藻大真眼点藻(Eustigmatos magnus,EM)和波氏真眼点藻(Eustigmatos polyphem,EP)的细胞形态、生长、总脂含量、脂质组成和脂肪酸组成与含量的时序变化规律。【方法】利用高氮(18.0 mmol/L NO3?-N)和低氮(3.6 mmol/L NO3?-N)浓度培养微藻。【结果】形态观察结果表明,大真眼点藻(E. magnus)和波氏真眼点藻(E. polyphem)营养细胞具有1个周生的裂叶状叶绿体,细胞质中有液泡,内含能够振动的颗粒物,以及一个较为明显的红色色素体;生殖方式通过形成2个D形或4个四角形的似亲孢子;随着培养周期的延伸和营养盐的消耗,细胞中油体逐步形成,其数量不断增加,体积不断增大。实验结果表明,初始氮浓度对2种微藻的总脂积累及生长均有显著影响(P<0.05),低氮浓度下2种微藻的生物质浓度分别为9.0 g/L和8.5 g/L,均低于高氮浓度下的生物质浓度。而低氮浓度下2种微藻的总脂、中性脂和总脂肪酸的含量以及总脂、中性脂与总脂肪酸的单位体积产率均明显高于高氮浓度组,其最高值分别为:59.10%、51.90%、46.95%和0.28、0.24、0.22 g/(L·d) (EM);64.20%、56.80%、50.01%和0.32、0.28、0.25 g/(L·d) (EP)。脂肪酸分析结果表明,两种微藻的脂肪酸主要成分均为棕榈酸(C16:0)、棕榈油酸(C16:1)、油酸(C18:1)和二十碳五烯酸(C20:5,EPA),四者的总含量(占总脂肪酸)分别达到85.83%和85.48%,其中棕榈油酸的含量最高。【结论】低氮浓度胁迫有利于大真眼点藻和波氏真眼点藻细胞内油脂的积累,两种微藻均为适合于生产生物柴油的油脂生产藻株。  相似文献

Baetimyces, belonging to the Legeriomycetaceae, is described here as a new genus. Its single species, B. ancorae, has been found growing in the hindgut of mayfly nymphs of the genus Baetis (Ephemeroptera, Baetidae) inhabiting a Pyrenean Mountains canal-stream from the northeastern region of the Iberian Peninsula. The new genus is characterized by having trichospores with two thick appendages of unequal length, and by zygospores perpendicularly and medially attached to the zygosporophore. The new genus may be related to Glotzia, Legeriomyes, and Zygopolaris, and similarities with these and other genera are compared and discussed. The new species often coexists in the same gut with Legeriomyces ramosus, which is reported for the first time in Spain.  相似文献

A new genus of gut fungus in the Harpellales (Trichomycetes) with the type species Dacryodiomyces oklahomensis, found in Chironomidae larvae, is described from northeastern Oklahoma, USA. Trichomycetes are an ecological group of fungi and protists that colonize the gut lining of invertebrates in aquatic and moist terrestrial habitats. The diversity of this group appears to be high with many new species discovered each year. A new genus of fungal trichomycete, Trifoliellum (Harpellales), is described here with the type species T. bioblitzii. This genus is characterized by having unique, trefoil-shaped asexual spores (trichospores). Another new species, Legeriosimilis halifaxensis, also is described from the same mayfly host, Eurylophella temporalis, collected from the same site near Halifax, Nova Scotia.  相似文献

One species of each of five genera of Harpellales--Gauthieromyces, Harpella, Legeriomyces, Stachylina and Zygopolaris--are reported for the first time from India. Gauthieromyces indicus is described from the hindguts of Baetis sp. nymphs. The new species is distinguished from the only other species, G. microsporus Lichtw., by having a greater number of and smaller generative cells per fertile branchlet with smaller trichospores that bear fine, entangled appendages. Occurrence of these fungi in India supports the observation that some genera and species of Trichomycetes are widespread but with apparent disjunct distributions.  相似文献

The bacteriocin, boticin E, was produced by only a few strains of those clostridia which are nontoxigenic but otherwise identical to Clostridium botulinum type E. Boticin preparations from four different strains had identical spectra against indicator cultures. Experiments with bacterial lawns showed boticin to be sporostatic for all tested nonproteolytic C. botulinum (types B, E, and F) and nontoxigenic type E-related strains which included the producing strains as well as those different from type E in the fermentation of one to three carbohydrates. Boticin had no detectable effect on vegetative cells of boticinogenic strains but killed those of all other strains whose spores were sensitive. Cultures that were growing in an agar medium were more sensitive to the bacteriocin than those growing in broth. Vegetative cells of indicator strains adsorbed boticin, but cells of a boticin-resistant mutant did not. Boticin did not lyse suspensions of vegetative cells which had been killed previously by exposure to air but lysed actively growing protoplasts and L-forms of a strain whose normal vegetative cells are susceptible to lysis. Sporostasis resulted from inhibition of germination rather than of outgrowth. Proteolytic strains of C. botulinum (types A, B, and F) were resistant to boticin E.  相似文献

Klastostachys reflexa, a new genus and species combination in the Harpellales, is established herein based on Stachylina reflexa, which was described in 1988. This gut fungus was found attached to the peritrophic matrix of small bloodworms, Cryptochironomus sp. (Chironomidae), in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, USA. Klastostachys resembles Stachylina, a genus common in Chironomidae, but the unbranched thalli of Klastostachys disarticulate and disperse with the trichospores remaining attached to their generative cells. This manner of dissemination is unusual among Harpellales, being noted also for Carouxella spp., but members of that genus have zygospores attached at one pole to the zygosporophore (Type IV), whereas Klastostachys zygospores are medially attached to the zygosporophore at right angles (Type I).  相似文献

A study of larval Diptera (Chironomidae, Culicidae and Simuliidae) from Spain has been carried out to fulfill a catalogue of species of the genus Smittium (Harpellales: Legeriomycetaceae) present within these hosts. Among the reported taxa, eight are new species: Smittium brevisporum, S. bulbosporo-phorus, S. gracilis, S. hecatei, S. heterosporum, S. inex-pectans, S. prostratum and S. pseudodimorphum. We also report six previously described species, which are new for the Iberian Peninsula: S. alpinum, S. dipterorum, S. megazygosporum, S. pusillum, S. typhellum and S. fecundum. Three other species (S. simulii, S. culicis and S. culisetae) previously were reported from Spain. In two of them (S. fecundum and S. culicis), we describe for the first time the presence of zygospores. Some of the included species have been artificially cultured as well as ultrastructurally studied using scanning electron microscopy (SEM), with the purpose of observing the surface of both trichospores and the trichospore collar and the morphology of the trichospore appendage.  相似文献

A group of eight species ofEncephalartos, comprisingE. altensteinii, E. arenarius, E. horridus,E. latifrons, E. lehmannii, E. longifolius, E. princeps, andE. trispinosus, from the Eastern Cape Province of South Africa, was studied by analysis of iso-enzymes, ribosome DNA, and ITS 1 and 2 genes. The reason for this investigation was that the morphology of the vegetative and reproductive parts, though very distinctive in this geographical region, do not correlate, and it was hoped that molecular data would elucidate evolutionary relationships. The three sets of molecular data were found to agree to a remarkable degree. It was concluded that the vegetative morphology was misleading but that the cone characteristics agree with molecular data and provide insight into the interrelationships of these species. Thus,E. princeps was concluded to be relatively remotely related to the vegetatively similarE. lehmannii, andE. arenarius is not at all close toE. latifrons even though the two species are easy to confuse when not in cone.  相似文献

Experiments were conducted to ascertain whether there is chemotactic attraction by Bacillus megaterium and Micrococcus varians, both Gram-positive species, and Escherichia coli and Vibrio parahaemolyticus, both Gram-negative species, for hemocytes of the American oyster, Crassostrea virginica. It was ascertained quantitatively that oyster hemocytes are attracted to live E. coli, B. megaterium, and M. varians but not to heat-killed bacteria. Furthermore, oyster cells are not attracted to either live or heat-killed V. parahaemolyticus. It is concluded that the chemoattractant is some molecule emitted by living vegetative cells of certain Gram-positive as well as Gramnegative bacteria.  相似文献

We have determined the solution structure of an albumin binding domain of protein G, a surface protein of group C and G streptococci. We find that it folds into a left handed three-helix bundle similar to the albumin binding domain of protein PAB from Peptostreptococcus magnus. The two domains share 59% sequence identity, are thermally very stable, and bind to the same site on human serum albumin. The albumin binding site, the first determined for this structural motif known as the GA module, comprises residues spanning the first loop to the beginning of the third helix and includes the most conserved region of GA modules. The two GA modules have different affinities for albumin from different species, and their albumin binding patterns correspond directly to the host specificity of C/G streptococci and P. magnus, respectively. These studies of the evolution, structure, and binding properties of the GA module emphasize the power of bacterial adaptation and underline ecological and medical problems connected with the use of antibiotics.  相似文献

Cysts of an oligotrich ciliate were collected from natural sediment samples in Onagawa Bay, northeastern coast of Japan, and examined for their excystment capability. A high excystment ratio was obtained at lower temperatures of 10 or 15 degrees C; no excystment occurred at 20 degrees C. Excysted vegetative cells were observed after protargol staining and were identified as a new species, Cyrtostrombidium boreale n. sp. The seasonal changes in the vegetative population and sedimentation of newly formed cysts were also investigated in situ. Planktonic vegetative cells were abundant during the cold season from February to May, when the water temperature was lower than 10 degrees C. Mass encystment occurred abruptly just after the seasonal peak of the vegetative population in April. These results indicate that C. boreale is a cold-water species and aestivates during the longer, warm period from late spring to fall.  相似文献

Desiccation-tolerance in vegetative tissues of angiosperms hasa polyphyletic origin and could be due to 1) appropriation ofthe seed-specific program of gene expression that protects orthodoxseeds against desiccation, and/or 2) a sustainable version ofthe abiotic stress response. We tested these hypotheses by comparingmolecular and physiological data from the development of orthodoxseeds, the response of desiccation-sensitive plants to abioticstress, and the response of desiccation-tolerant plants to extremewater loss. Analysis of publicly-available gene expression dataof 35 LEA proteins and 68 anti-oxidant enzymes in the desiccation-sensitiveArabidopsis thaliana identified 13 LEAs and 4 anti-oxidantsexclusively expressed in seeds. Two (a LEA6 and 1-cys-peroxiredoxin)are not expressed in vegetative tissues in A. thaliana, buthave orthologues that are specifically activated in desiccatingleaves of Xerophyta humilis. A comparison of antioxidant enzymeactivity in two desiccation-sensitive species of Eragrostiswith the desiccation-tolerant E. nindensis showed equivalentresponses upon initial dehydration, but activity was retainedat low water content in E. nindensis only. We propose that theseantioxidants are housekeeping enzymes and that they are protectedfrom damage in the desiccation-tolerant species. Sucrose isconsidered an important protectant against desiccation in orthodoxseeds, and we show that sucrose accumulates in drying leavesof E. nindensis, but not in the desiccation-sensitive Eragrostisspecies. The activation of "seed-specific" desiccation protectionmechanisms (sucrose accumulation and expression of LEA6 and1-cys-peroxiredoxin genes) in the vegetative tissues of desiccation-tolerantplants points towards acquisition of desiccation tolerance fromseeds.  相似文献

Endogone corticioides sp. nov. was described from subalpine conifer forests in Japan and China. This species is similar to E. pisiformis in its yellowish sporocarps and zygosporangia on the equal empty gametangia. Endogone corticioides was clearly distinguished from E. pisiformis based on its resupinate sporocarp, the presence of hyphal peg-like structures on the peridium, and abundant thick-walled hyphae in the gleba. Phylogenetic analysis of the small and large subunit nuclear ribosomal RNA and the elongation factor-1α genes suggested that E. corticioides is closely related to E. pisiformis. Limited vegetative growth from the surface-sterilized sporocarps on agar media was shown.  相似文献

In shallow flooded parts of rich fens Mentha aquatica might thrive in deeper water than Epilobium hirsutum but previous experiments have provided no clear indication that the flooding tolerance of these species differs. In this study we investigated, by measuring growth, biomass allocation and vegetative reproduction, whether the impact of water level on vegetative reproduction might produce different lower boundaries on water level gradients. There was a striking contrast between biomass production at high water levels and the field distribution of both species. After 18 wk, the mean biomass of E. hirsutum grown in waterlogged and flooded conditions was 82% and 54%, respectively, of the mean biomass production of drained plants. Biomass of waterlogged and flooded M. aquatica was reduced to 57% and 37% in drained conditions. Waterlogged and flooded E. hirsutum had swollen stem bases and invested a high proportion of biomass in adventitious roots. Stems of M. aquatica did not swell, formed few adventitious roots and maintained an equal proportion of below-ground roots at all water levels. The effect of water level on vegetative reproduction corresponded well with the lower hydrological boundaries of both species. When waterlogged and flooded, most rhizomes of E. hirsutum emerged from above-ground parts of the stem base and were oriented in an upward direction. Plants in flooded soil allocated less biomass to rhizomes and also reduced the number and size of rhizomes. Rhizome formation of M. aquatica on the other hand was not directly affected by water level and only depended on plant size. These differences in vegetative reproduction are discussed in relation to the different abilities of both species to oxygenate their below-ground roots. It was concluded that the mode of adaptation to soil flooding might also affect vegetative reproduction and, therefore, a species' ability for long-term persistence in soil-flooded habitats.  相似文献

From analyses of monthly length frequency distributions of stonefly (Plecoptera) nymphs from stream riffles, two types of univoltine life cycles (Hynes 1961, classification) were observed: slow seasonal forIsoperla transmarina, Isoperla signata, Isogenoides olivaceus, andAllocapnia rickerii, and fast seasonal forProstoia similis. The Perlodidae stoneflies (Isoperla andIsogenoides) showed greatest propensities to drift near the end of their life cycles.
