The pollination biology and breeding system of Vellozia squamata (Velloziaceae), a species of cerrado vegetation in Central Brazil, were studied. V. squamata is unusual in being pollinated by a few, generalist bee species despite having very large flowers, and having a distinctive pulsed flowering phenology. The species is self-incompatible but with a late-acting, post-fertilization rejection mechanism.  相似文献

The first cladistic analysis of the relationship of Malagasy vangas (Vangidae) based on morphological characters is presented here. The comparative morphological analysis provides new arguments for the exclusion of several taxa traditionally or recently assigned to Vangidae such as Tylas 'Vanga' ( Tylas eduardi ), Crossley's Babbler ( Mystacornis crossleyi ) and newtonias ( Newtonia spp.), but also for the exclusion of the Red-tailed 'Vanga' ( Calicalicus madagascariensis ) from the Vangidae. It leads also to the hypothesis that vangas sensu stricto , the Australasian woodswallows (Artamidae) and the Australo-Papuan butcherbirds (Cracticidae) form a monophyletic group, with the New Guinean peltops ( Peltops spp.) as its probable sister taxon. Such a relationship implies that the last common ancestor of vangas reached Madagascar from the east by means of a dispersal event across the Indian Ocean. This hypothesis is partly in accordance with that of William Pycraft (1907) published a century ago, but in conflict with contemporary hypotheses based on DNA sequence analysis which favour helmet-shrikes, bush shrikes and relatives as the closest relatives of vangas and therefore an African origin of this group.  相似文献

Morphological observations and molecular analyses of the north‐western Pacific species of the red algal genus Grateloupia (Halymeniaceae) indicate the presence of an entity, which is somewhat similar in gross morphology to G. asiatica Kawaguchi et Wang but is distinguished from the latter species by some morphological features. These include: (i) a somewhat fleshy texture; (ii) wider and much thicker (4.5–10 mm wide and up to 1300 μm thick) axes, of which an inner cortex consists of more (6–9) cells; (iii) generally longer (up to 17 cm), marginal and surface proliferations that are clearly constricted (terete) at bases; and (iv) much elongated, oblong auxiliary cells. Phylogenetic analysis using the ribulose‐l,5‐bisphosphate carboxylase/ oxygenase (rbcL) gene of G. asiatica and the alga in question shows them to be distantly related and strongly supports the differentiation of these two entities at the species level. Judging from the literature, this entity is actually Grateloupia subpectinata Holmes, which has been placed into synonymy under G. asiatica [as G. filicina (Lamouroux) C. Agardh] or G. prolongata J. Agardh in previous reports, and therefore the Holmes name is reinstated.  相似文献

关于石杉科Huperziaceae植物的分类,一直存在一些争议。在旧的分类体系中石杉科植物被包含在一个混合的石松科Lycopodiaceae和多谱系的石松属Lycopodium中。本文利用叶绿体rbcL基因和psbA-trnH基因间区序列探讨石杉科植物的系统位置及石杉科内部的分类关系,用最大简约法和邻接法对自测序列结合由GenBank下载的rbcL及psbA-trnH基因间区序列进行系统发育分析。结果显示,石杉科与Phylloglossum属关系较近,与石松科关系较疏远。在石杉科中热带石杉属Huperzia植物和马尾杉属Phlegmariurus植物的关系要比它们与其他石杉属植物更近。所以,我们的rbcL基因数据不支持秦仁昌关于石杉科分为石杉属和马尾杉属的分类处理。但是,因为我们的psbA-trnH序列没有包括热带种类,对石杉属植物和马尾杉属植物的关系无验证。因此需要更多的样品和序列数据进一步探讨石杉科的演化关系。  相似文献

Phylogenetic relationships were determined in the Araucariaceae, which are now found mainly in the Southern Hemisphere. This conifer family was well diversified and widely distributed in both hemispheres during the Mesozoic era. The sequence of 1322 bases of the rbcL gene of cpDNA was determined from 29 species of Araucariaceae, representing almost all the species of the family. Phylogenetic trees determined by the parsimony method indicate that Araucariaceae are well defined by rbcL sequences and also that the monophyly of Agathis or Araucaria is well supported by high bootstrap values. The topology of these trees revealed that Wollemia had derived prior to Agathis and Araucaria. The rbcL phylogeny agrees well with the present recognition of four sections within Araucaria: Araucaria, Bunya, Eutacta, and Intermedia. Morphological characteristics of the number of cotyledons, position of male cone, and cuticular micromorphologies were evaluated as being phylogenetically informative. Section Bunya was found to be derived rather than to be the oldest taxon. Infrageneric relationships of Agathis could not be well elucidated because there are few informative site changes in the rbcL gene, suggesting the more recent differentiation of the species as their fossil records indicate. The New Caledonian Araucaria and Agathis species each formed a monophyletic group with very low differentiation in rbcL sequences among them, indicating rapid adaptive radiation to new edaphic conditions, i.e., ultramafic soils, in the post-Eocene era.  相似文献

A taxonomic revision of the genus Flagenium Baill. is presented. Flagenium is endemic to Madagascar and comprises six species; three new species are described here ( F. farafanganensis , F. petrikensis , and F. pedunculatum ) and one species ( F. arboreum ) is transferred into synonymy. Each species is fully described, and summaries of distribution, habitat and ecology, and phenology are given; conservation assessments are provided for each species. Flagenium is characterized by having ovaries with at least two erect and two pendulous ovules per locule, which, depending on the species, can display an additional two to four horizontal ovules per locule arranged between the uppermost and lowermost ovules. In addition, Flagenium has a longitudinally ten-ribbed fruit. Morphological evidence for resolving relationships among arachnid orders was surveyed and assembled in a matrix comprising 59 euchelicerate genera (41 extant, 18 fossil) and 202 binary and unordered multistate characters. Parsimony analysis of extant genera recovered a monophyletic Arachnida with the topology (Palpigradi (Acaromorpha (Tetrapulmonata (Haplocnemata, Stomothecata nom. nov. )))), with Acaromorpha containing Ricinulei and Acari, Tetrapulmonata containing Araneae and Pedipalpi (Amblypygi, Uropygi), Haplocnemata (Pseudoscorpiones, Solifugae) and Stomothecata (Scorpiones, Opiliones). However, nodal support and results from exploratory implied weights analysis indicated that relationships among the five clades were effectively unresolved. Analysis of extant and fossil genera recovered a clade, Pantetrapulmonata nom nov. , with the topology (Trigonotarbida (Araneae (Haptopoda (Pedipalpi)))). Arachnida was recovered as monophyletic with the internal relationships (Stomothecata (Palpigradi, Acaromorpha (Haplocnemata, Pantetrapulmonata))). Nodal support and exploratory implied weights indicated that relationships among these five clades were effectively unresolved. Thus, some interordinal relationships were strongly and/or consistently supported by morphology, but arachnid phylogeny is unresolved at its deepest levels. Alternative hypotheses proposed in the recent literature were evaluated by constraining analyses to recover hypothesized clades, an exercise that often resulted in the collapse of otherwise well-supported clades. These results suggest that attempts to resolve specific nodes based on individual characters, lists of similarities, evolutionary scenarios, etc., are problematic, as they ignore broader impacts on homoplasy and analytical effects on non-target nodes.  © 2007 The Linnean Society of London, Zoological Journal of the Linnean Society , 2007, 150 , 221–265.  相似文献

Seagrasses are composed of four families belonging to angiosperms and they are thought to become adaptive to aquatic life independently. Zosteraceae is one such family and because of the relatively high species diversity around Japan and Korea coast areas, the family might have arisen therefrom. To elucidate the origin and evolution of Zosteraceae which consists of three genera, Phyllospadix, Zostera, and Heterozostera, 2.8 kb nucleotide sequences of rbcL and matK genes in the chloroplast genome were examined for various species, including cosmopolitan Z. marina and endemic Z. caulescens. The phylogenetic analysis reveals the following three features. First, based on the synonymous nucleotide substitution rate of the rice chloroplast genome, we estimated the divergence times between Zosteraceae and its closest relative, Potamogetonaceae, and between different genera, Zostera and Phyllospadix, as approximately 100 million years (myr) and 36 myr, respectively, suggesting that Zosteraceae emerged somewhere in the period from 36 myr ago to 100 myr ago. Second, two subgenera of Zostera, Zostera and Zosterella, exhibit their reciprocal monophyly and appear to have differentiated from each other approximately 33 myr ago. However, the third genus Heterozostera branched off only 5 myr ago from the stem lineage leading to Zosterella and this seems too recent in comparison with the ancient divergence of the two subgenera. Third, we estimated the most recent common ancestor of subgenus Zostera as 6 myr. In Z. marina four haplotypes were found in the sample and have diversified in the past 1.5 myr. One haplotype is shared by both sides of the Japan Archipelago and its closely related haplotypes occur also in eastern Pacific Ocean. Based on these phylogeographic analyses, we propose a provisional age related classification of Zosteraceae to argue the origin and evolution.  相似文献

Dunaliella acidophila is one of the most extreme acidophiles on earth and is able to survive in highly acidic habitats. This characteristic has made this organism the universal model for the study of abiotic stress. Although D. acidophila is currently circumscribed to the subgenus Pascheria within Dunaliella Teodoresco (Chlorophyceae), its taxonomic position has stirred controversy. The comparison of D. acidophila CCAP19/35 internal transcribed spacers (including ITS2 secondary structure analysis) and RuBisCo large subunit (rbcL) sequences with other Dunaliella species confirms that D. acidophila should maintain its phylogenetic position within the genus Dunaliella, suggesting its inclusion within the subgenus Dunaliella. Furthermore, the ITS1 and ITS2 data revealed that D. acidophila was highly divergent from the other freshwater species assessed, D. lateralis, with which it barely shares a 56.8% similarity.  相似文献

Seventeen species, one subspecies and one variety of Dioscorea sect. Stenophora Uline were investigated for their phylogenetic relationships based on a sequence analysis of chloroplast matK and rbcL genes and trnL-F intergenic spacer by maximum parsimony and maximum likelihood methods. The results showed that (a) sect. Stenophora was a strongly supported monophyletic group; (b) D. rockii, D. membranacea, D. banzhuana, and D. simulans formed a moderately supported monophyletic group, and D. prazeri was weakly supported to be sister to this group; (c) D. althaeoides and D. nipponica ssp. nipponica formed a moderately supported clade, and D. nipponica ssp. rosthornii was not a member of this clade; (d) D. zingiberensis and D. sinoparviflora showed a moderate to strong sister relationship; and (e) D. collettii var. hypoglauca and D. collettii var. collettii were sister to each other, but with only weak support.  相似文献

Leptolaena Thouars is one of the first described genera within Sarcolaenaceae, but represents the last great species-level taxonomic challenge in this endemic Malagasy plant family. As currently circumscribed, this genus comprises three subgenera, two of which, Mediusella Cavaco and Xerochlamys (Baker) Cavaco, exhibit patterns of morphological variation that have been understood differently and have led to an unstable taxonomy, such that a consensus on the delimitation of species has yet to be reached. Principal component analysis of morphological characters was performed on 211 herbarium specimens in order to evaluate the morphological variation within the two subgenera and to clarify historically problematical species boundaries. The results showed that ten entities could be distinguished on the basis of vegetative, floral, and fruit characters, and that they provide a robust basis for proposing a new species-level taxonomic framework.  © 2008 The Linnean Society of London, Botanical Journal of the Linnean Society , 2008, 157 , 559–574.  相似文献

Following (1) the large-scale molecular phylogeny of seed plants based on plastid rbcL gene sequences (published in 1993 by Chase et al., Ann. Missouri Bot. Gard. 80:528-580) and (2) the 18S nuclear phylogeny of flowering plants (published in 1997 by Soltis et al., Ann. Missouri Bot. Gard. 84:1-49), we present a phylogenetic analysis of flowering plants based on a second plastid gene, atpB, analyzed separately and in combination with rbcL sequences for 357 taxa. Despite some discrepancies, the atpB-based phylogenetic trees were highly congruent with those derived from the analysis of rbcL and 18S rDNA, and the combination of atpB and rbcL DNA sequences (comprising approximately 3000 base pairs) produced increased bootstrap support for many major sets of taxa. The angiosperms are divided into two major groups: noneudicots with inaperturate or uniaperturate pollen (monocots plus Laurales, Magnoliales, Piperales, Ceratophyllales, and Amborellaceae-Nymphaeaceae-Illiciaceae) and the eudicots with triaperturate pollen (particularly asterids and rosids). Based on rbcL alone and atpB/rbcL combined, the noneudicots (excluding Ceratophyllum) are monophyletic, whereas in the atpB trees they form a grade. Ceratophyllum is sister to the rest of angiosperms with rbcL alone and in the combined atpB/rbcL analysis, whereas with atpB alone, Amborellaceae, Nymphaeaceae, and Illiciaceae/Schisandraceae form a grade at the base of the angiosperms. The phylogenetic information at each codon position and the different types of substitutions (observed transitions and transversions in the trees vs. pairwise comparisons) were examined; taking into account their respective consistency and retention indices, we demonstrate that third-codon positions and transitions are the most useful characters in these phylogenetic reconstructions. This study further demonstrates that phylogenetic analysis of large matrices is feasible.  相似文献

基于两个叶绿体基因(matK和rbcL)和一个核糖体基因(18S rDNA)的序列分析,对代表了基部被子植物和单子叶植物主要谱系分支的86科126属151种被子植物(单子叶植物58科86属101种)进行了系统演化关系分析。研究结果表明由胡椒目Piperales、樟目Laurales、木兰目Magnoliales和林仙目Canellales构成的真木兰类复合群是单子叶植物的姐妹群。单子叶植物的单系性在3个序列联合分析中得到98%的强烈自展支持。联合分析鉴定出9个单子叶植物主要谱系(广义泽泻目Alismatales、薯蓣目Dioscorcales、露兜树目Pandanales、天门冬目Asparagalcs、百合目Liliales、棕榈目Arecales、禾本目Poales、姜目Zingiberales、鸭跖草目Commelinales)和6个其他被子植物主要谱系(睡莲目Nymphaeales、真双子叶植物、木兰目、樟目、胡椒目、林仙目)。在单子叶植物内,菖蒲目Acorales(菖蒲属Acorus)是单子叶植物最早分化的一个谱系,广义泽泻目(包括天南星科Araceae和岩菖蒲科Toficldiaccae)紧随其后分化出来,二者依次和其余单子叶植物类群构成姐妹群关系。无叶莲科Petrosaviaceac紧随广义的泽泻目之后分化出来,无叶莲科和剩余的单子叶植物类群形成姐妹群关系,并得到了较高的支持率。继无叶莲科之后分化的类群形成两个大的分支:一支是由露兜树目和薯蓣目构成,二者形成姐妹群关系:另一支是由天门冬目、百合目和鸭跖草类复合群组成,三者之间的关系在单个序列分析和联合分析中不稳定,需要进一步扩大取样范围来确定。在鸭跖草类复合群分支内,鸭跖草目和姜目的姐妹群关系在3个序列联合分析和2个序列联合分析的严格一致树中均得到强烈的自展支持,获得的支持率均是100%。但是,对于棕榈目和禾本目在鸭跖草类中的系统位置以及它们和鸭跖草目-姜目之间的关系,有待进一步解决。值得注意的是,无叶莲科与其他单子叶植物类群(除菖蒲目和泽泻目外)的系统关系在本文中获得较高的自展支持率,薯蓣目和天门冬目的单系性在序列联合分析中都得到了较好的自展支持,而这些在以往的研究中通常支持率较低。鉴于菖蒲科和无叶莲科独特的系统演化位置,本文支持将其分别独立成菖蒲目和无叶莲目Petrosavialcs的分类学界定。  相似文献

Relationships among the morphologically diverse members of Saxifragaceae sensu lato were inferred using 130 18S rDNA sequences. Phylogenetic analyses were conducted using representatives of all 17 subfamilies of Saxifragaceae sensu lato, as well as numerous additional taxa traditionally assigned to subclasses Magnoliidae, Caryophyllidae, Hamamelidae, Dilleniidae, Rosidae, and Asteridae. This analysis indicates that Saxifragaceae should be narrowly defined (Saxifragaceae sensu stricto) to consist of ~30 herbaceous genera. Furthermore, Saxifragaceae s. s. are part of a well-supported clade (referred to herein as Saxifragales) that also comprises lteoideae, Pterostemonoideae, Ribesioideae, Penthoroideae, and Tetracarpaeoideae, all traditional subfamilies of Saxifragaceae sensu lato, as well as Crassulaceae and Haloragaceae (both of subclass Rosidae). Paeoniaceae (Dilleniideae), and Hamamelidaceae, Cercidiphyllaceae, and Daphniphyllaceae (all of Hamamelidae). The remaining subfamilies of Saxifragaceae sensu lato fall outside this clade. Francoa (Francooideae) and Bauera (Baueroideae) are allied, respectively, with the rosid families Greyiaceae and Cunoniaceae. Brexia (Brexioideae), Parnassia (Parnassioideae), and Lepuropetolon (Lepuropetaloideae) appear in a clade with Celastraceae. Representatives of Phyllonomoideae, Eremosynoideae, Hydrangeoideae, Escallonioideae, Montinioideae, and Vahlioideae are related to taxa belonging to an expanded asterid clade (Asteridae sensu lato). The relationships suggested by analysis of 18S rDNA sequences are highly concordant with those suggested by analysis of rbcL sequences. Furthermore, these relationships are also supported in large part by other lines of evidence, including embryology. serology, and iridoid chemistry.  相似文献

线蕨属Colysis 植物主要分布于亚洲热带和亚热带地区,少数种类分布至非洲、澳大利亚(昆士兰)及新几内亚地区.自1849年成立以来,线蕨属的分类范畴和系统位置一直有待确定.本文利用叶绿体基因组的rbcL、rps4基因和rps4-trnS基凶间隔区序列,运用最大简约法和贝叶斯方法分析了线蕨属及其近缘类群的系统演化关系.研究结果显示:(1)线蕨属和薄唇蕨属Leptochilus(含似薄唇蕨属Paraleptochilus)组成一个支持率很高的单系分支(C-L Clade),但是薄唇蕨属的成员位于线蕨属的不同支系内,支持线蕨属和薄唇蕨属合并为一个属;(2)瘤蕨属Phymatosorus单独形成一个单系分支;(3)星蕨属Microsorum是一个多系类群,除Microsorium linguiforme、M.varians和M.pustulatum与马来群岛的Lecanopteris聚在一起外,其他的星蕨属成员均位于不同的支系上.本文的系统发育分析结果为线蕨属和薄唇蕨属的分类处理提供了分子系统学的证据.  相似文献

The cycad genus Encephalartos is restricted to Africa and is threatened with extinction in most of its range. Total DNA was extracted from 51, i.e., 78 %, of the described species of Encephalartos. The accessions were sampled from the furthest western occurrence of the genus in Nigeria, via Sudan and Uganda, to southern South Africa. The sequences of nuclear ribosomal internal transcribed spacer regions 1 and 2 (ITS 1&2), the chloroplast encoded rbcL gene, and ISSR genomic fingerprinting were employed to resolve the molecular history and the relationships within the genus. Sequence alignment, as well as ISSR fingerprinting, data show low genetic variation among all analysed accessions, indicating diversification within the Pliocene/Pleistocene. ITS 1&2 data agree well with morphological and geographical characters and resolved three major genetic clusters with overlapping distribution ranges in eastern South Africa. This area, that contains the largest diversity of genotypes of Encephalartos, may have served as a Pliocene/Pleistocene refugium.  相似文献
