We report the synthesis of the Schiff base ligands, 4-[(4-bromo-phenylimino)-methyl]-benzene-1,2,3-triol (A1), 4-[(3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxy-phenylimino)-methyl]-benzene-1,2,3-triol (A2), 3-(p-tolylimino-methyl)-benzene-1,2-diol (A3), 3-[(4-bromo-phenylimino)-methyl]-benzene-1,2-diol (A4), and 4-[(3,5-di-tert-butyl-4-hydroxy-phenylimino)-methyl]-benzene-1,3-diol (A5), and their Cd(II) and Cu(II) metal complexes, stability constants and potentiometric studies. The structure of the ligands and their complexes was investigated using elemental analysis, FT-IR, UV-Vis, 1H and 13C NMR, mass spectra, magnetic susceptibility and conductance measurements. In the complexes, all the ligands behave as bidentate ligands, the oxygen in the ortho position and azomethine nitrogen atoms of the ligands coordinate to the metal ions. The keto-enol tautomeric forms of the Schiff base ligands A1-A5 have been investigated in polar and non-polar organic solvents. Antimicrobial activity of the ligands and metal complexes were tested using the disc diffusion method and the strains Bacillus megaterium and Candida tropicalis.Protonation constants of the triol and diol Schiff bases and stability constants of their Cu2+ and Cd2+ complexes were determined by potentiometric titration method in 50% DMSO-water media at 25.00 ± 0.02 °C under nitrogen atmosphere and ionic strength of 0.1 M sodium perchlorate. It has been observed that all the Schiff base ligands titrated here have two protonation constants. The variation of protonation constant of these compounds was interpreted on the basis of structural effects associated with the substituents. The divalent metal ions of Cu2+ and Cd2+ form stable 1:2 complexes with Schiff bases. The Schiff base complexes of cadmium inhibit the intense chemiluminescence reaction in dimethylsulfoxide (DMSO) solution between luminol and dioxygen in the presence of a strong base. This effect is significantly correlated with the stability constants KCdL of the complexes and the protonation constants KOH of the ligands; it also has a nonsignificant association with antibacterial activity.  相似文献

The Schiff base ligand, oxalic bis[(2-hydroxybenzylidene)hydrazide], H2L, and its Cu(II), Ni(II), Co(II), UO2(VI) and Fe(III) complexes were prepared and tested as antibacterial agents. The Schiff base acts as a dibasic tetra- or hexadentate ligand with metal cations in molar ratio 1:1 or 2:1 (M:L) to yield either mono- or binuclear complexes, respectively. The ligand and its metal complexes were characterized by elemental analyses, IR, 1H NMR, Mass, and UV-Visible spectra and the magnetic moments and electrical conductance of the complexes were also determined. For binuclear complexes, the magnetic moments are quite low compared to the calculated value for two metal ions complexes and this shows antiferromagnetic interactions between the two adjacent metal ions. The ligand and its metal complexes were tested against a Gram + ve bacteria (Staphylococcus aureus), a Gram -ve bacteria (Escherichia coli), and a fungi (Candida albicans). The tested compounds exhibited high antibacterial activities.  相似文献

The complexes of Fe(II), Cd(II) and Zn(II) with Schiff base derived from 2-amino-3-hydroxypyridine and 3-methoxysalicylaldehyde have been prepared. Melting points, decomposition temperatures, Elemental analyses, TGA, conductance measurements, infrared (IR) and UV–Visible spectrophotometric studies were utilized in characterizing the compounds. The UV–Visible spectrophotometric analysis revealed 1:1 (metal-ligand) stoichiometry for the three complexes. In addition to, the prepared complexes have been used as precursors for preparing their corresponding metal oxides nanoparticles via thermal decomposition. The structures of the nano-sized complexes and their metal oxides were characterized by X-ray powder diffraction and transmittance electron microscopy. Moreover, the prepared Schiff base ligand, its complexes and their corresponding nano-sized metal oxides have been screened in vitro for their antibacterial activity against three bacteria, gram-positive (Microccus luteus) and gram-negative (Escherichia coli, Serratia marcescence) and three strains of fungus. The metal chelates were shown to possess more antimicrobial activity than the free Schiff-base chelate and their nano-sized metal oxides have the highest activity. The binding behaviors of the complexes to calf thymus DNA have been investigated by absorption spectra, viscosity mensuration and gel electrophoresis. The DNA binding constants reveal that all these complexes interact with DNA through intercalative binding mode. Furthermore, the cytotoxic activity of the prepared Schiff base complexes on human colon carcinoma cells, (HCT-116 cell line) and hepatic cellular carcinoma cells, (HepG-2) showed potent cytotoxicity effect against growth of carcinoma cells compared to the clinically used Vinblastine standard.  相似文献

Chitosan, a biocompatible, biodegradable, non-toxic polymer, is prepared from chitin, which is the second most naturally occurring biopolymer after cellulose. The Schiff base of chitosan was synthesized by the reaction of chitosan with citral working under high-intensity ultrasound. The effect of the molar ratio of chitosan to citral, reaction time, and temperature on the yield has been investigated. The optimal conditions were a temperature of 50 °C, a molar ratio of chitosan to citral of 1:6, and a reaction time of 10 h. The maximum yield achieved was 86.4% under optimum conditions. The structure of the Schiff base was characterized by FTIR spectroscopy, elemental analysis, and X-ray diffraction studies. The strong peaks at 1648.3 and 1610.6 cm−1 are due to CN and CC stretching vibrations. The results confirmed that amino groups on chitosan reacted with citral to form the Schiff base. The antimicrobial activities of chitosan and Schiff base of chitosan were investigated against Escherichia coil, Staphylococcus aureus, and Aspergillus niger. The results indicate that the antimicrobial activity of the Schiff base increases with an increase in the concentration. It was also found that the antimicrobial activity of the Schiff base was stronger than that of chitosan.  相似文献

Schiff bases of 2-hydroxybenzophenone (HBP) (C6H5)(2-HOC6H4)CN(CH2)nEAr (L1/L2: E = S, Ar = Ph, n = 2/3; L3/L4: E = Se, Ar = Ph, n = 2/3; L5/L6: E = Te, Ar = 4-MeOC6H4, n = 2/3) and their complexes [PdCl(L-H)] (L = L1L6; 1, 2, 3, 5, 7, 11), [PtCl(L3-H/L5-H)] (4/8), [PtCl2(L4/L6)2] (6/12), [(p-cymene)RuCl(L5/L6)]Cl (9/13) and [HgBr2(L5/L6)2] (10/14) have been synthesized and characterized by proton, carbon-13, selenium-77 and tellurium-125 NMR, IR and mass spectra. Single crystal structures of L1, 1, 3, 4, 5 and 7 were solved. The Pd-E bond distances (Å): 2.2563(6) (E = S), 2.3575(6)−2.392(2) (E = Se); 2.5117(5)−2.5198(5) (E = Te) are near the lower end of the bond length range known for them. The Pt-Se bond length, 2.3470(8) Å, is also closer to the short values reported so far. The Heck and Suzuki reaction were carried out using complexes 1, 3, 5 and 7 as catalysts under aerobic condition. The percentage yields for trans product in Heck reaction were found upto 85%.  相似文献

Combined pH-metric, UV-Vis, 1H NMR and EPR spectral investigations on the complex formation of M(II) ions (M=Co, Ni, Cu and Zn) with N-(2-benzimidazolyl)methyliminodiacetic acid (H2bzimida, hereafter H2L) in aqueous solution at a fixed ionic strength, I=10−1 mol dm−3, at 25 ± 1 °C indicate the formation of M(L), M(H−1L) and M2(H−1L)+ complexes. Proton-ligand and metal-ligand constants and the complex formation equilibria have been elucidated. Solid complexes, [M(L)(H2O)2] · nH2O (n=1 for M = Co and Zn, n=2 for M = Ni) and {Cu (μ-L) · 4H2O}n, have been isolated and characterized by elemental analysis, spectral, conductance and magnetic measurements and thermal studies. Structures of [Ni(L)(H2O)2] · 2H2O and {Cu(μ-L) · 4H2O}n have been determined by single crystal X-ray diffraction. The nickel(II) complex exists in a distorted octahedral environment in which the metal ion is coordinated by the two carboxylate O atoms, the amino-N atom of the iminodiacetate moiety and the pyridine type N-atom of the benzimidazole moiety. Two aqua O atoms function as fifth and sixth donor atoms. The copper(II) complex is made up of interpenetrating polymeric chains of antiferromagnetically coupled Cu(II) ions linked by carboxylato bridges in syn-anti (apical-equatorial) bonding mode and stabilized via interchain hydrogen bonds and π-π stacking interactions.  相似文献

2-Amino-1,3,4-thiadiazole undergoes a condensation reaction with furane-, thiophene- and pyrrole-2-carboxaldehyde to form tridentate NNO, NNS and NNN donor Schiff bases. These Schiff bases were further used to obtain complexes of the type [M(L) 2] X, where M=Co(II), Cu(II), Ni(II) or Zn(II), L=L 1, L 2 or L 3 and X=Cl 2. The new compounds described here have been characterized by their physical, spectral and analytical data, and have been screened for antibacterial activity against several bacterial strains such as Escherichia coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The antibacterial potency of the Schiff bases increased upon chelation/complexation in comparison to the uncomplexed Schiff bases against the tested bacterial species thus, opening new approaches to find new ways in the fight against antibiotic-resistant strains.  相似文献

A hesperetin Schiff base ligand (H4L) and its complexes, [H3CuL·OAc]·H2O and [H3ZnL·OAc]·2H2O, have been synthesized and characterized on the basis of elemental analysis, molar conductivity, 1H NMR, mass spectra, UV-Vis spectra and IR spectra. The binding of these two complexes and the ligand to DNA has been investigated by ultraviolet absorption spectroscopy, fluorescence spectroscopy and viscosity measurements. The experiments indicate that all the compounds can bind to DNA through an intercalative mode and the complexes intercalate into DNA more deeply than that of the ligand. In addition, the antioxidative activity was also determined. The 50% inhibition obtained for the ligand and its complexes demonstrates that, compared to the ligand, the complexes exhibit higher antioxidative activity in the suppression of and HO.  相似文献

A new potentially tetradentate (N4) Schiff base ligand (L), 1,9,12,20-tetraazatetracyclo[18.2.2.02,7.014,19]tetracosa-2(7),3,5,8,12,14(19),15,17-octaene containing a piperazine moiety is described. Macrocyclic Schiff base complexes, [NiL](ClO4)2 (1) and [CuL](ClO4)2 (2) have been obtained from equimolar amounts of ligand (L) with nickel(II) and copper(II) metal ions. While the equilibrium reaction in the presence of cobalt(II) and zinc(II) metal ions with ligand L in a 1:1 molar ratio yielded the open-chain Schiff base complexes, [CoL′](ClO4)2 (3) and [ZnL′](ClO4)2 (4) containing two terminal primary amino groups. The ligand L′ is 1,4-bis(2-(2-aminoethyliminomethyl)phenyl)piperazine. The crystal structures of (1) and (4) have been also determined by X-ray diffraction. It was shown that the Ni(II) is coordinated to the ligand L by two nitrogen atoms of piperazine group and two nitrogen atoms of the imine groups, in a slightly distorted square-planar geometry. Also single crystal X-ray analysis of (4) confirmed a distorted octahedral arrangement in the vicinity of Zn atom with N6 donor set. The spectroscopic characterization of all complexes is consistent with their crystal structures.  相似文献

Antibacterial Schiff bases derived from 1,2,4-triazoles as well as their metal complexes incorporating cobalt(II), nickel(II), copper(II) and zinc(II) have been synthesized and characterized. Physico-chemical studies suggest that an octahedral geometry for the cobalt(II), nickel(II) and zinc(II)and square-planer geometry for the copper(II) complexes. These complexes have been screened for antibacterial activity against three Gram-positive (Staphylococcus aureus, Staphylococcus epidermidis and Bacillus subtilis) and two Gram-negative (Salmonella typhi and Pseudomonas aeruginosa) bacterial strains, and results compared with the activity of the free ligands. The metal complexes were found to be more potent against one or more bacterial strains than the free ligands.  相似文献

New 2-aminoethyl pendant-armed Schiff base macrocyclic complexes, [ML7]2+ (M = Mn(II), Mg(II), Zn(II) and Cd(II)), have been prepared via M(II) templated [1 + 1] cyclocondensation of 2,6-diacetylpyridine with a new branched hexamine, N,N,N′,N′-tetrakis(2-aminoethyl)-2,2-dimethylpropane-1,3-diamine. The ligand is a 16-membered pentaaza macrocycle having two 2-aminoethyl pendant arms [L7 is 2,14-dimethyl-6,10-bis(2-aminoethyl)-3,6,10,13,19-pentaazabicyclo[13.3.1]8,8-dimethylnonadeca-1(19),2,13,15,17-pentaene]. The crystal structures of [MnL7]2+ and [MgL7]2+ were determined from X-ray diffraction data. The geometry of the coordination sphere of complexes is a slightly distorted pentagonal bipyramid with the metal ion located within a pentaaza macrocycle and two pendant amines coordinating on opposite sides. All complexes were characterized by IR, microanalysis and except of [MnL7]2+ by 1H NMR, 13C NMR, DEPT135, COSY(H, H) and HMQC spectroscopy. The data indicate that the structure is pentagonal bipyramidal in each case. The structure of all complexes has also been theoretically studied by ab initio Hartree-Fock and density functional theory methods.  相似文献

The structures of two such complexes are also reported. It was found by 1H and 13C NMR spectroscopy that the Schiff base, 2-deoxy-2-(2-hydroxybenzaldimino)-D-glucopyranose exhibits enol-imine-keto-amine and anomeric equilibria in methanolic, and in dimethyl sulfoxide solutions. The reaction of the Schiff base with nickel acetate gave the bidentate, mononuclear Ni(II) complex that was characterized by spectroscopic methods and by cyclic voltammetry. The coordination of the Schiff base to the metal is through the enol-imine tautomeric form, and the anomeric equilibrium remains in dimethyl sulfoxide solutions. This complex was also obtained by reaction of D-glucosamine with Ni(II) salicylaldehydate. The same reaction was employed for the synthesis of bis-N-[2-deoxy-D-galactopyranosyl-2-(2-hydroxybenzaldiminate)]Ni(II). The small paramagnetic shifts of the 1H NMR resonances of the complexes suggest that paramagnetic species are present in low proportions.  相似文献

A novel library of Schiff base analogues (5aq) were synthesized by the condensation of methyl-12-aminooctadec-9-enoate and different substituted aromatic aldehydes. The synthesized compounds were thoroughly characterized by spectroscopic techniques (FT-IR, 1H NMR, 13C NMR, ESI-MS and HRMS). The Schiff base analogues with different substitutions were screened for in vitro antibacterial activity against 7 different bacterial strains. Among these, the compounds with electron withdrawing substituent, namely chlorine (5a) and electron donating substituents, namely hydroxy (5n) and methoxy (5o), were found to exhibit excellent to good antimicrobial activities (MIC value 9–18 μM) against Staphylococcus aureus MTCC 96, Staphylococcus aureus MLS-16 MTCC 2940 and Bacillus subtilis MTCC 121. The products were also screened for anti-biofilm and MBC (Minimum Bactericidal Concentration) activities which exhibited promising activities.  相似文献

Four new square-planar Ni(II) and Cu(II) complexes with [N2O2] binding system were synthesized by metal-directed condensation of 2,6-diformyl-4-methylphenol with benzoyl or acetylacetone mono-S-methylisothiosemicarbazone. Only mononuclear “one-armed” complexes were obtained as a consequence of the different reactivity of the two carbonyl groups in the hydroxydialdehyde. The complexes were characterized by elemental analysis, EI MS and UV-Vis spectroscopy. The structural assignment was confirmed by X-ray diffraction analysis and NMR spectroscopy, for the Ni(II) complexes, and by ESR spectroscopy and magnetic measurements, for the Cu(II) complexes.  相似文献

One-pot metal promoted reactions between salicylaldehyde and 4-methyl-1,3-phenylenediamine in the presence of metal salts acting as template agents yield zinc(II) salicylaldimine complexes containing N,N′-bis(salicylidene)-4-methyl-1,3-phenylenediamine (H2L) as a result of the [2 + 1] Schiff base condensation. The complexes of formula [Zn(HL)Cl(H2O)2] · C2H5OH and [Zn(H2L)2Cl(NO3)(H2O)] · CH3OH were characterized as powder solids and in solution by spectroscopic methods (IR, 1H and 13C NMR, FAB-MS, ESI-MS, UV-Vis), thermogravimetric and elemental analysis, potentiometry, and tested for antimicrobial activity against Staphylococcusaureus in a minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) experiment. In these two powder solid species, the salicylaldimine, formed in a self-assembly process, acts in two different coordination modes: as monodeprotonated bidentate chelator with an N,O donor set or as a neutral monodentate using exclusively oxygen as the donor atom without involving the nitrogen atoms in the coordination. However, crystals of these two complexes are isomorphous, with 1:2 metal:ligand stoichiometry, and display the latter, relatively rare coordination pattern. In solution, the presence of a 1:1 complex of monodeprotonated state is only detected. The complexes exhibit antimicrobial activity against S.aureus.  相似文献

A series of copper(II) and zinc(II) complexes involving a tridentate O,N,O'-donor Schiff base derived from salicylaldehyde and beta-alanine {i.e. N-salicylidene-beta-alanine(2-), (L)}, having the composition [Cu(2)(L)(2)(H(2)O)].H(2)O (1), [Cu(L)(H(2)O)](n) (2), and [Zn(L)(H(2)O)](n) (3), have been prepared and characterized by elemental analyses, UV-visible (UV-VIS), FT-IR and ESI-MS spectra, and thermal analyses. Complexes 1 and 2 have been investigated by single crystal X-ray analysis and also by temperature dependent magnetic susceptibility measurements (294-80K). All prepared complexes have been evaluated by the antiperoxynitrite activity assay and alloxan-induced diabetes model. The significant antioxidant and antidiabetic activities have been found in the case of both copper(II) complexes 1 and 2. In spite of first two complexes, the zinc(II) complex 3, as well as the potassium salt of the ligand (KHL) showed only insignificant protective effect against the tyrosine nitration in vitro.  相似文献

Considering the important role of antioxidants in biological systems, the group of copper(II) complexes derived from salicylaldehyde and alpha- or beta-alanine and its thiourea derivative and copper(II) complexes derived from pyruvic acid and beta-alanine were studied. The antiradical activity of the tested compounds was studied by both in vitro and in vivo methods. The chemical methods based on inhibition of INT-formazane or 3-nitrotyrosine formation were used for the evaluation of SOD-mimic and antiperoxynitrite activity, respectively. In the case of in vivo activity evaluation, an alloxan-induced diabetes mellitus model in mice was used, the mechanism of action of alloxan being closely connected with the formation of free radicals selectively damaging the pancreatic beta-cells. Since all the substances studied showed different positive effects, it is obvious that they have not acted only as a source of copper(II) ions but their effect is related to their specific chelate structure. The obtained results are a contribution to the knowledge of copper(II) Schiff base complexes with ligands of aldimine or ketimine type and form the basis for further preclinical tests of these bioactive agents in biological models of oxidative stress.  相似文献

New tailored Cu(II) & Zn(II) metal-based antitumor drug entities were synthesized from substituted benzothiazole o?vanillin Schiff base ligands. The complexes were thoroughly characterized by elemental analysis, spectroscopic studies {IR, 1H & 13C NMR, ESI?MS, EPR} and magnetic susceptibility measurements. The structure activity relationship (SAR) studies of benzothiazole Cu(II) & Zn(II) complexes having molecular formulas [C30H22CuN5O7S2], [C30H20Cl2CuN5O7S2], [C30H20CuF2N5O7S2], [C30H22N4O4S2Zn], [C30H20Cl2N4O4S2Zn], and [C30H20F2N5O7S2Zn], with CT?DNA were performed by employing absorption, emission titrations, and hydrodynamic measurements. The DNA binding affinity was quantified by K b and K sv values which gave higher binding propensity for chloro-substituted Cu(II) [C30H20Cl2CuN5O7S2] complex, suggestive of groove binding mode with subtle partial intercalation. Molecular properties and drug likeness profile were assessed for the ligands and all the Lipinski’s rules were found to be obeyed. The antimicrobial potential of ligands and their Cu(II) & Zn(II) complexes were screened against some notably important pathogens viz., E. coli, S. aureus, P. aeruginosa, B. subtilis, and C. albicans. The cytotoxicity of the complexes [C30H20Cl2CuN5O7S2], [C30H20CuF2N5O7S2], [C30H20Cl2N4O4S2Zn], and [C30H20F2N5O7S2Zn] were evaluated against five human cancer cell lines viz., MCF?7 (breast), MIA?PA?CA?2 (pancreatic), HeLa (cervix) and Hep?G2 (Hepatoma) and A498 (Kidney) by SRB assay which revealed that chloro-substituted [C30H20Cl2CuN5O7S2] complex, exhibited pronounced specific cytotoxicity with GI50 value of 4.8 μg/ml against HeLa cell line. Molecular docking studies were also performed to explore the binding modes and orientation of the complexes in the DNA helix.  相似文献
