Results of an experimental study of the helicon discharge plasma parameters in a prototype of a hybrid RF plasma system equipped with a solenoidal antenna are described. It is shown that an increase in the external magnetic field leads to the formation of a plasma column and a shift of the maximum ion current along the discharge axis toward the bottom flange of the system. The shape of the plasma column can be controlled via varying the configuration of the magnetic field.  相似文献

A study is made of a quarter-wave asymmetric dipole antenna in which the conducting rod is replaced by a plasma column with an electron density much higher than the critical density. The parameters of such an antenna are determined by the exited surface wave, which affects the electromagnetic field structure in the near-field zone. It is shown analytically, numerically, and experimentally that the resonant length of the plasma dipole antenna is close to one-quarter of the length of the surface wav and that the conversion efficiency of plasma antenna power into radiation can be no worse than that of a metal dipole antenna. It is also shown experimentally that the plasma in a dipole antenna can be self-consistently excited by an RF oscillator and that the excited RF oscillations can be efficiently radiated into the surrounding space.  相似文献

In this paper, a broadband circularly polarized plasma curl antenna for portable RFID reader at 2.45 GHz is proposed. The antenna consists of a glass tube filled with argon gas and of about 1.4 wavelengths curled into one turn. A parametric study for the plasma curl antenna parameters is investigated. A simulated compact model for the portable RFID reader is proposed. The radiation characteristics of the plasma curl antenna enclosed inside a portable reader device are calculated. The behavior of plasma curl antenna is like a metal antenna when the signal is transmitted and received. Plasma antennas have many advantages as their design permit electrical, rather than mechanical control for their radiation characteristics. They are light weight, reconfigurable, can be energized, and de-energized in seconds, which prevent signal degradation. When a particular plasma antenna is not energized, its radiation does not affect the nearby elements and allowing other antennas to transmit or receive without interference. The radiation characteristics of the plasma curl antennas are investigated and analyzed using a finite integral technique.  相似文献

The structure of the RF magnetic field in the vicinity of a loop antenna operating in the whistler frequency range has been studied experimentally and theoretically. The experiments were performed over a wide frequency range at different values of the plasma density, electron temperature, and ambient magnetic field strength. It is shown that, when a loop antenna is smaller than the wavelength of a quasi-longitudinal whistler, the structure of the magnetic field of such an antenna is nearly the same as that of the field of a current-carrying loop in vacuum; otherwise, the RF field is localized near the antenna wire. The results of numerical calculations agree with the measured field distributions. The antenna field is calculated by expanding it in the eigenmodes of a magnetized plasma with allowance for not only propagating but also nonpropagating (exponentially decaying) waves, which make the main contribution to the near field. An analytic estimate of the depth to which the RF magnetic field of a loop antenna penetrates into the plasma is obtained.  相似文献

Experimental results on the behavior of air glow dc discharge column radio frequency antenna are presented. The effect of the discharge conditions on the loop antenna gain at five radio frequencies of 9.3, 10.0, 13.6, 16.5, and 19.1 MHz are studied. Increases in the loop antenna gain of up to 5 dB are observed. The increase in gain is observed to rise with increased plasma density at the onset of the discharge approaching a saturation limit as the plasma density is increased further.  相似文献

In the ? = 3 Uragan-3M torsatron, hydrogen plasma is produced and heated by RF fields in the Alfvén range of frequencies (ω ? ω ci ). To this end, a frame antenna with a broad spectrum of generated parallel wavenumbers is used. The RF discharge evolution is studied experimentally at different values of the RF power fed to the antenna (the anode voltage of the oscillator and the antenna current) and the initial pressure of the fueling gas. It is shown that, depending on the antenna current and hydrogen pressure, the discharge can operate in two regimes differing in the plasma density, temperature, and particle loss. The change in the discharge regime with increasing anode voltage is steplike in character. The particular values of the anode voltage and pressure at which the change occurs are affected by RF preionization or breakdown stabilization by a microwave discharge. The obtained results will be used in future experiments to choose the optimal regimes of the frame-antenna-produced RF discharge as a target for the production and heating of a denser plasma by another, shorter wavelength three-half-turn antenna.  相似文献

The electromagnetic fields excited by circular loop antennas in a magnetized plasma in the whistler frequency range are simulated by the finite-difference time-domain method. The spatial structure of quasi-monochromatic fields excited in the near- and far-field zones by an antenna with a harmonic current, as well as the dynamics of the electromagnetic field excited by an antenna with a current in the form of a single video pulse, is studied. Simulations performed for a uniform plasma and uniform ambient magnetic field agree well with the results of theoretical analysis and model laboratory experiments performed on large-scale plasma devices.  相似文献

The propagation and damping of waves excited by a poloidal antenna in a hydrogen plasma at the ion cyclotron resonance (ICR) frequency were investigated. The longitudinal wavenumber and damping length of waves excited in the ohmically heated plasma of the L-2M stellarator, the dependence of the damping length of fast magnetosonic waves on the magnetic field strength, and the dependence of the antenna load resistance on the plasma density were measured. It is the first time that such complex measurements were performed in experiments on ICR heating of a hydrogen plasma at the fundamental harmonic of the ion gyrofrequency in toroidal magnetic confinement systems.  相似文献

In this paper, different array arrangements based on magneto-electric (ME) dipole antenna with wideband circular polarization (CP) characteristics are designed and investigated. Planar, triangular prism, square prism, and hexagonal prism array arrangements are considered. Each prism face has a sub-array comprises 2 × 2 ME-dipole elements. Each sub-array has wide impedance matching of 73.7%, a maximum gain of 16.6 dBi, and CP bandwidth of 78.2%. It employs the plasma frequency of the ME-dipole antenna to control its radiation characteristics. Frequency-independent lumped element equivalent circuit is constructed for a single antenna element. It is used to represent the antenna input impedance at different plasma electron densities with fixed physical structure. The proposed equivalent circuit comprises a single series section used for matching enhancement with feeder circuit, and three parallel tuned circuits corresponding to the three resonance frequencies in the input impedance. The best values of the equivalent circuit elements are computed using the particle swarm optimization (PSO) technique. Different array arrangements, planar, triangular, square, and hexagonal prism are designed to create single or multiple beams in different directions. An electronic beam switching is achieved by tuning in the plasma inside the ME-dipole in the desired direction. The radiation characteristics are analyzed and investigated using the finite integration technique (FIT).

Independent experimental and theoretical evaluation was performed for the adequacy of our previously proposed general molecular model of structural organization of light-harvesting pigments in chlorosomal bacteriochlorophyll (BChl) c/d/e-containing superantenna of different green bacteria. Simultaneous measurement of hole burning in the optical spectra of chlorosomal BChl c and temperature dependence of steady-state fluorescence spectra of BChl c was accomplished in intact cells of photosynthetic green bacterium Chloroflexus aurantiacus; this allows unambiguous determination of the structure of exciton levels of BChl c oligomers in this natural antenna, which is a fundamental criterion for adequacy of any molecular model for in vivo aggregation of antenna pigments. Experimental data were shown to confirm our model of organization of oligometric pigments in chlorosomal BChl c antenna of green bacterium Chloroflexus aurantiacus. This model, which is based on experimental data and our theory of spectroscopy of oligomeric pigments, implies that the unit building block of BChl c antenna is a cylindrical assembly containing six excitonically coupled linear pigment chains whose exciton structure with intense upper levels provides for the optimal spectral properties of the light-harvesting antenna.  相似文献

The possibility of controlling the directional pattern of a multislot waveguide antenna with the help of a gas-discharge tube placed inside the waveguide was studied experimentally. Since the dielectric parameters of the waveguide depend on the plasma density in the discharge column, they can be controlled by varying the discharge current. The high efficiency of such plasma control was demonstrated experimentally: as the discharge current was varied from 0 to 200 mA, the antenna directional pattern turned by ~17°.  相似文献

Eigenmodes of an axisymmetric plasma column that is uniform along the magnetic field are investigated. It is shown that, as the plasma density increases, eigenmodes with frequencies close to the electron gyrofrequency tend to localize at the plasma periphery. This effect is likely to restrict the electron density at which the plasma can be heated by means of such modes. A theory is developed for the excitation of the eigenmodes of a plasma column in a weakly nonuniform magnetic field by an external antenna.  相似文献

A helicon plasma source operating in the ion cyclotron frequency range is studied theoretically. It is shown that, even with a purely inductive antenna exciting a helicon wave in a plasma at ion-acoustic frequencies, the effective resistance characterizing the absorption of high-frequency field energy is determined by the ion-acoustic field generated by the helicon wave. Calculations show that such a plasma source can operate very efficiently.  相似文献

A combination of one- and two-wave antennas (one and two turns of conductors around a plasma cylinder, respectively) is proposed. This combined antenna localizes an RF field within itself. It is shown that spent nuclear fuel processing systems based on ICR heating of nuclear ash by such a combined antenna have high productivity. The distribution of the excitations caused by the pump laser pulse in the domains of light-harvesting antenna is shown to be the hypergeometrical one. The experimental curves of the photo-oxidation of reaction centers versus the light intensity of pico-second pulses measured for two distinct samples with monocentral antenna domains are in excellent agreement with the statistical distribution predicted.  相似文献

The energy transfer and trapping kinetics in the core antenna of Photosystem I are described in a new model in which the distance between the core antenna chlorophylls and P700 is proposed to be considerably longer than the distance between the chlorophylls within the antenna. Structurally, the model describes the Photosystem I core antenna as a regular sphere around P700, while energetically it consists of three levels representing the bulk antenna, P700 and the red-shifted antenna pigments absorbing at longer wavelength than P700, respectively. It is shown that the model explains experimental results obtained from the Photosystem I complex of the cyanobacterium Synechococcus sp. (A.R. Holzwarth, G. Schatz, H Brock, and E. Bittersman (1993) Biophys. J. 64: 1813–1826) quite well, and that no unrealistic charge separation rate and organization of the long-wavelength pigments has to be assumed. We suggest that excitation energy transfer and trapping in Photosystem I should be described as a ‘transfer-to-the-trap’-limited process  相似文献
