Spontaneous Movements in Plants Studied as a Random Walk Process   总被引:2,自引:0,他引:2  
A theory to describe spontaneous curvatures performed by different plant materials on the clinostat is put forward. The movements are proposed to follow the assumptions of a random walk process (statistically randomly distributed movements) and thus to give curvatures following the equations E(α) = 0 V(α) = constant * time where α is the curvature from the starting direction, E(α) is the expectation of α and V(α) is the variance ofα. These equations are experimentally shown to be valid for Lepidium roots and Helianthus hypocotyls. Results for roots reported in the literature are recalculated and are shown to support the theory.  相似文献

A mathematical framework for a rigorous theory of general systems is constructed, using the notions of the theory of Categories and Functors introduced by Eilenberg and MacLane (1945,Trans. Am. Math. Soc.,58, 231–94). A short discussion of the basic ideas is given, and their possible application to the theory of biological systems is discussed. On the basis of these considerations, a number of results are proved, including the possibility of selecting a unique representative (a “canonical form”) from a family of mathematical objects, all of which represent the same system. As an example, the representation of the neural net and the finite automaton is constructed in terms of our general theory.  相似文献

Summary The species-area and species-distance relationships of terrestrial mammals in the Thousand Island Region of the St. Lawrence River are totally consistent with the basic predictions of the equilibrium theory of island biogeography. The power model provides the best fit for the species-area relationship, and the z-value of 0.305 does not differ significantly from Preston's canonical value (0.26). Distance (D) is a normal determinant (Se -D 2) of mammalian richness, and 93% of the variability in richness is accounted for by island area and isolation. The high z-values and poor species-distance correlations reported in previous studies of mammalian island biogeography, rather than evidencing non-equilibrium, are predictions consistent with the equilibrium theory for distant archipelagoes or, equivalently, poor immigrators such as mammals.  相似文献

Summary Recently I proposed a quantitative theory which predicts the partition of resources between vegetative growth and seed production in highly rhizomatous clonal plants (Armstrong 1982, 1983). My basic premise was that this partition should be controlled by basic geometric properties of clonal growth. My conclusions were that the ratio of resources expended on seeds and rhizomes should be relatively constant in time and space, and that the value of this ratio should be predictable from a knowledge of the allometric relationships among certain morphological characters.In the present paper I first refine this theory to yield explicit ramet-level predictions directly applicable to clonal species with densely-packed canopies. These predictions are then tested using observations on goldenrods (Solidago altissima) and mayapples (Podophyllum peltatum). In the Solidago studies, the ratio of infructescence weight to total rhizome weight was found to be asymptotically constant for the larger ramets in a clone, confirming an important prediction of the theory. A second prediction of the theory, that the ratio of infructescence weight to total rhizome weight should be constant across clones, was not confirmed using the goldenrod data. This observation may simply be due to measurement biases. An alternative hypothesis is that the prediction of this theory constitute an r-limit strategy, and so are applicable only in the limit of density independent growth. Data from Sohn and Policansky (1977) on mayapples support this latter interpretation.  相似文献

A stereoxplicit analysis of amide torsional strain reveals two distinct rehybridization modes, each of which correlates with a unique hydrolysis mechanism. These may be characterized as anti distortion of cis (Z) substitutents (yielding trans addition of HOR) and syn distortion of trans (E) substituents (correlating with cis addition). The latter mechanism is known to apply in the cases of the serine proteases, and supporting evidence for torsional activation is sought in crystallographic structures of trypsin with its inhibitors as well as from kinetic data. A contrast is made with the mechanism of carboxypeptidase A, which operates on the former principle. For this enzyme it is demonstrated that an unusual minor-protonation state is most probably the catalytically active species, a conclusion with some important ramifications. A general comparison of the torsional strain hypothesis is made with a recently propounded theory concerning stereoelectronic control of cleavage of hemiorthoamide tetrahedral intermediates. When these approaches to enzyme mechanism are used in tandem, a unique comprehension is achievable.  相似文献

将尖吻蝮蛇毒碱性磷脂酶A2A.aBPLA2)基因克隆至温敏表达载体pBLMVL2,在大肠杆菌RR1中成功诱导表达.表达产物A.aBPLA2约占细菌蛋白质总量的20%,并以包涵体的形式存在.纯化包涵体后,将产物变性、复性,然后用FPLC SuperoseTM12纯化,产物经过SDS-聚丙烯酰胺凝胶电泳检测只有单一条带.对纯化后的表达A.aBPLA2进行了酶活性、抑制血小板聚集活性和溶血活性的测定.结果显示,表达A.aBPLA2的酶活性与变性后复性江浙蝮蛇酸性磷脂酶A2酶活性相近,具有类似变性后复性江浙蝮蛇碱性磷脂酶A2的溶血活性,没有抑制血小板聚集活性.最后对磷脂酶A2的结构与这些活性的关系进行了讨论.  相似文献

目的 多层生物介质的生物传感器被广泛应用于各大领域,其检测特性对于传感器优劣的评估尤为重要。本文目的在于量化表征多层生物介质的电学特征。方法 基于生物电阻抗谱技术来探究多层生物介质的电化学阻抗谱特性,并结合保角映射的方法来量化表征多层生物介质,阐明其对阻抗的影响规律,继而为生物传感器的研制与开发提供理论基础。有效提取各生物介质层修饰后电阻抗参数(Z*),从而量化表征多层生物介质层的电阻抗谱特性。结果 对多层模型进行了理论计算并构建了相关试验测试系统,研究结果表明,随着生物介质层的逐步修饰,检测区域电阻抗参数(Z*)在f=0.1~50 MHz下持续上升,理论计算结果趋势与试验结果趋势较好吻合,论证了此理论计算方法的正确性。结论 本文证实了可根据生物电阻抗谱和保角映射方法量化表征多层生物介质的电阻抗谱特性,对生物传感器的研制与开发有一定的实用价值。  相似文献

R/S mixture of monoterpene alcohol cis‐verbenol can be separated in preparative scale by its conversion into phthalic mono‐ester and subsequent crystallization of its diastereomeric salts with (R)‐α‐methylbenzylamine and (S)‐α‐methylbenzylamine. The role that the client's cognitions(viz., his self-statements and images) play in each of the various phases of biofeedback training is examined. Biofeedback training is conceptualized as including three phases: initial conceptualization, skills-acquisition and -rehearsal, and transfer of treatment. Cognitive-behavior modification procedures to alter or employ the clients' cognitions at each of these phases of treatment are described. A cognitive theory of self-control is offered, postulating a three-stage mediational change process whereby:(1) the client must become an observer of his behavior and physiological responses;(2) this recognition becomes the cue to emit incompatible cognitions and behaviors; and, finally,(3) the content of the client's cognitions following change influences the generalization and persistence of treatment effects. The implications of this theory for biofeedback training are discussed.  相似文献

In this paper, we have studied the chiroptical properties of a family of o‐oligo(phenyleneethynylene) (o‐OPE) derivatives with different steric hindrance. Experimental results show high dissymmetry factors (gabs and glum up to 1.1 × 10?2) and very similar electronic circular dichroism (ECD) and circularly polarized luminescence (CPL) for all the derivatives that make this basic o‐OPE scaffold a robust pure organic emitter. Vibrational circular dichroism spectra are used to characterize conformational properties in solution. Density functional theory and time‐dependent density functional theory calculations support experimental results also proving that ECD and CPL are almost exclusively linked to helical moiety and not to size or conformation of substituents. As chiroptical properties of these emitters are independent of substituents, this OPE scaffold can be used as basic skeleton for the design of sensing probes with high CPL efficiencies.  相似文献

The recognition of species proceeds by two fairly distinct phases: (1) the sorting of individuals into groups or basic taxa (‘discovery’) (2) the checking of those taxa as candidates for species-hood (‘justification’). The target here is a rational reconstruction of phase 1, beginning with a discussion of key terms. The transmission of ‘meaning’ is regarded as bimodal: definition states the intension of the term, and diagnosis provides a disjunction of criteria for recognition of its extension. The two are connected by a spectrum, with purely theoretical definition at one pole and purely ‘operational’ diagnosis at the other, with the more operational elements explained by the more theoretical. The current plethora of species concepts provides a good example. Accepting the Ghiselin–Hull thesis, that a species is an individual, a basic taxon is therefore also an individual with organisms as its parts. In a generalised synchronic individual its parts are conceptually integrated by an integrating principle (IP), which consists of a relation applying within a plan or rule. Fully developed, such an IP ensures the maximisation of the information content of the individual. A diachronic individual is then the set of its component synchronic parts, and its IP is provided by near-identity in an appropriate space-time (not necessarily physical). The integration of parts of an individual is illuminated by Gasking's concept of a proper group (in this case a chain-group), whose members are related by the relation serially fitting together with, the IP completed by an appropriate plan or rule. Gasking also applied the term cluster to a proper group persisting over a substantial period of time, individuated by any member acting as focus. A basic taxon is therefore a cluster of individuals, integrated by the relation significantly taxonomically similar and the rule in character-space-time. The nature of those concepts is discussed and defended. A species will inherit certain of the attributes of the preceding basic taxon (taxa). In at least the synchronic version its parts (individuals) will resemble each other significantly, providing the intuitive applicability of ‘members of’ and ‘instances of’ a species. Also, the notion that a species’ name is given by pure ostension, via a name-bearer (holotype) is empirically incoherent: the name cannot be applied in practice without an appropriate set of diagnostic traits.  相似文献

A normal mode theory is developed for the Brownian dynamics of weakly bending rods with preset hydrodynamic interactions. The rod is replaced by a chain of contiguous spheres whose radius is chosen to yield the appropriate uniform translational and rotational diffusion coefficients. Despite the inclusion of preset hydrodynamic interactions in the dynamical operator, its normal modes are not coupled by the potential energy, so their amplitudes remain pairwise “orthogonal” under equilibrium averaging. The uniform translational and rotational diffusion coefficients obtained from Langevin theory are shown to be identical to those obtained from the Kirkwood algorithm, despite their rather different appearance. An expression is given for the mean squared angular displacement 〈Δxm(t)2〉 of the mth bond vector around the instantaneous x axis (perpendicular to the end-to-end vector z). Necessary algorithms are presented for the numerical evaluation of all quantities. The normal mode theory is compared with Brownian dynamics simulations for the same model by examining 3〈Δxm(t)2〉 for the central bond vector of rods comprising 10 and 30 subunits with various persistence lengths. The normal mode theory works very well for all times for L/P ? 0.6, where P = κ/kBT is the persistence length and κ is the bending rigidity. With increasing flexibility, the domain of validity of the normal mode theory is restricted to shorter times, where violations of the weak bending approximation are less severe. However, increasing the length of the rod from 10 to 30 subunits yields improved agreement with the simulations for the same and even longer times. This latter effect is tentatively attributed to the greater fluctuating tension in the longer chains, which acts to retard the rotational relaxation in the simulations, but is not taken into account in the present normal mode theory.  相似文献

A model of a pre-planned single joint movements performed without feedback is considered. Modifications of this movement result from transformation of a trajectory pattern f(t) in space and time. The control system adjusts the movement to concrete external conditions specifying values of the transform parameters before the movement performance. The preplanned movement is considered to be simple one, if the transform can be approximated by an affine transform of the movement space and time. In this case, the trajectory of the movement is x(t) = Af(t/ + s) +p, were A and 1/ are space and time scales, s and p are translations. The variability of movements is described by time profiles of variances and covariances of the trajectory x(t), velocity v(t), and acceleration a(t). It is assumed that the variability is defined only by parameters variations. From this assumption follows the main finding of this work: the variability time profiles can be expanded on a special system of basic functions corresponding to established movement parameters. Particularly, basic functions of variance time profiles, reflecting spatial and temporal scaling, are x 2(t) and t 2 v 2(t) for trajectory, v 2(t) and (v(t) + t · a(t))2 for velocity, and a 2(t) and (2a(t) +t · j(t))2, where j(t) = d3 x(t)/dt 3, for acceleration. The variability of a model of a reaching movement was studied analytically. The model predicts certain peculiarities of the form of time profiles (e.g., the variance time profile of velocity is bi-modal, the one of acceleration is tri-modal, etc.). Experimental measurements confirmed predictions. Their consistence allows them to be considered invariant properties of reaching movement. A conclusion can be made, that reaching movement belongs to the type of simple preplanned movements. For a more complex movement, time profiles of variability are also measured and explained by the model of movements of this type. Thus, a movement can be attributed to the type of simple pre-planned ones by testing its variability.  相似文献

A technique for measuring hydraulic conductances of excised xylem segments exposed to high negative pressures is described. A centrifugal force is used to generate negative pressures (P) in the sample and to create a positive hydrostatic pressure difference (ΔP) between its two ends. ΔP forces water through the sample at a flow rate (F) determined optically during centrifugation. The sample hydraulic conductance k is derived from F and ΔP. The sample vulnerability curve is given by the dependence of k on P. Results for Cedrus atlantica Manetti and Laurus nobilis L. shoots are given. The technique is appropriate for the analysis of xylem refilling under negative pressure.  相似文献

Background  

In lakes with a deep-water algal maximum, herbivorous zooplankton are faced with a trade-off between high temperature but low food availability in the surface layers and low temperature but sufficient food in deep layers. It has been suggested that zooplankton (Daphnia) faced with this trade-off distribute vertically according to an "Ideal Free Distribution (IFD) with Costs". An experiment has been designed to test the density (competition) dependence of the vertical distribution as this is a basic assumption of IFD theory.  相似文献

The Korean shoot fly genus Atherigona Rondani is reviewed taxonomically. A total of five species was identified: A. (Acritochaeta) orientalis Schiner, A. (Atherigona) biseta Karl, A. (Atherigona) falcata (Thomson), A. (Atherigona) oryzae Malloch, and A. (Atherigona) bifurca sp. nov. Of these, A. (Atherigona) bifurca sp. nov. is new to science, and A. (Atherigona) biseta Karl and A. (Atherigona) falcata (Thomson) are reported for the first time in Korea. A key to Korean species and photographs of external features are provided.  相似文献

Deliberate evaluation of the quantum theory of nerve excitation is made by comparing it with Hill's theory in fitting the experimental data on threshold-frequency relation, optimum frequency (v0) for nerve excitation and strength-duration relation. Decrease of v0 and increase of all the time constants (Hill's λ andk, Wei'sT 2 and spike durationw) with decreasing temperature are interpreted on the basis of the dipole relaxation timeT 2 but inexplicable from Hill's theory or any other existing theory. The closeness ofk,T 2 andw values is explained. A variety of experimental results obtained by others is discussed. Finally, a comparison is made between the Hodgkin-Huxley equations and the quantum theory. Most of the facts (electrical and non-electrical) tend to support the thesis that nerve excitation is a macroscopic expression of quantum transitions of dipoles between energy states.  相似文献

The galvanotactic response of human granulocytes was investigated theoretically and experimentally. The basic results are: (i) The granulocytes move towards the anode. (ii) The directed movement has been quantified by two different polar order parameters-the McCutcheon index and the average of cos . (iii) The polar order parameters are a function of the applied electric field (= dose-response curve). (iv) The inverse of the galvanotactic constant of migrating cells (analogous to the Michaelis-Menten constant) has a value of-0.2±0.03 V/mm. (v) The galvanotactic response of granulocytes is a non-cooperative process with a cooperativity coefficient of 1±0.2. (vi) The galvanotactic constant is a function of pH. (vii) The protein essential for the galvanotactic response is very likely a G-protein.  相似文献

Summary A new model, based on information theory, for determining the equation of Raunkiaer frequency curves in a homogeneous phytosociological table is proposed. The forms of these curves are explained in relation to the geographical area covered by the relevés of the phytosociological table involved. The statistical distribution of species in a syntaxon (and the variability of a syntaxon as measured, by (E/E m)-1, where E is the total number of species in the table, and E m is the average number of species per relevé) are closely correlated with the size of the distribution area of relevés. Many examples are given and several consequences for the phytosociological method are indicated.
